Question on unlocked iPhone 5s

I'm probably being paranoid. I just received my tmobile 5s which I paid full price for. I immediately put the SIM card from my iPhone 5 in it an activated it. It worked fine with the ATT sim. But just to be sure I did a restore figuring I would get the
Congratulations, your iPhone is now unlocked
But I never got that message. Is that because the iPhone was already unlocked
I'm traveling internationally in a few weeks  and I want to be sure the iPhone will work with a local sim
I tried looking the IMEI up on  imei, info but it couldn't locate it probably because the phone is so new
I realize I'm probably being paranoid but any reassurance someone can give me or experience anyone has had with a full price tmobile iPhone bought directly from
Apple would be great

Update:
I purchased my t Mobile online and already reported my ATT sim worked fine in USA..I have landed in South Africa and put in my old Vodacom sim card and have logged into the 4g network successfully...I will probably get a new Vodacom sim card to see if i can their LTE network...but im very satisfied for now.. Hope that answers your question

The warranty for the iPhone is not and has never been International.
Warranty and support are ONLY valid in the country of origin.  The only exception is the EU where the entire EU is treated as one country.
If the device will be used in India, buy it in India.
An unlocked iPhone will work on any supported GSM carrier world wide.  The LTE portion of a US purchased, unlocked iPhone is unlikely to work outside North America as it does not support the appropriate bands used in other countries.

  • Help! Unlocking Iphone 4s questions!!

    Hello,
Im wanting to buy an used Iphone 4s and use it on Tmobile. I read somewhere that if it is factory unlocked by Apple then it can always be updated. See, I have an unlocked Iphone 3g that cant be updated cause if I do it will no longer be unlocked and can never be unlocked again. (Then I cant use it on Tmobile) Atleast that is what I was told. So Im really wanting to make sure my next Iphone is already updated to the latest IOS and (if possible) unlocked to where I can update it without losing the abilitly to use it on Tmobile.
Also, whats the newest update for the Iphone 4s? Is it IOS 5 or 6? I want to ask any sellers before I buy to make sure I have the newest update!
Thanks so much for anyones help! You have no idea how much research Ive been doing to figure this stuff out and all I do is end up getting more and more confused!!
    Thanks!!!

Thank you so much! It's so nice to get a straight answer. I have another question, how can you purchase an unlocked sim-free iPhone from apple? And how much would that be for an IPhone 4s?
Walk into an Apple Store with credit card in hand or order it on-line from http://www.apple.com.
Also, could I unlock the phone by myself if I bought one that wasn't unlocked? Cause my other problem is thar if I buy a used already unlocked iPhone it might not be updated with the newest IOS 6.
    No.

  • Unlocked iPhone questions that need to be clarified please!

Hi! I have read different questions and responses, however I am still really confused/need more information.
I just purchased an unlocked iPhone 5 (not Verizon branded) from Apple. My contract with Verizon ends mid October. I want to switch to T-mobile ($70.00 per month) so that I can use my new unlocked iPhone with a SIM card. I intend on only being in the US for a year and then I am going back abroad to work. This is why I need to have an unlocked phone. In the long run this will save me money from having to find an unlocked phone wherever I go.
From my understanding Verizon can unlock a Verizon branded iPhone but there are certain requirements. What are they?
I would be able to use this on GSM networks worldwide right?
And is the phone completely unlocked or are there some things that are still locked (like access to LTE)?
I know that Verizon only works on CDMA so if a Verizon iPhone is unlocked then how will it work on GSM?
So my overall question is what is a better deal when I am working abroad: Keeping my factory unlocked iPhone and switching to another network provider or getting a new Verizon branded iPhone and staying with Verizon?
    Thanks!

        Hi lanarj,
Great questions! Verizon Wireless branded iPhone 5 is already unlocked for international use on GSM networks, simply change the SIM card when your are abroad and your phone should work. LTE technology may have some differences in other countries and we cannot guarantee that it will connect to LTE. Keep in mind that it may only work in our network when in the United States. If you have any issues while abroad please contact our Global Support team http://bit.ly/UAy184 at your convenience. Bon Voyage!

  • Okay i just recently asked a question.about my factory unlocked iphone 3gs asking how to activate it but..

i probably shouldnt say this but, okay i just recently asked a question.about my factory unlocked iphone 3gs asking how to activate it. so i got too excited of aving it and couldnt wait for my tmobile sim card to come  one more day. so i "hactivated" it (i know this voids all warrenty) and i jailbroke it just so i could use it as an ipod.it worked and i was syched.
BUTTT.... it asked me if i wanted to update the software to 5.1 and i was like " oh yes id love to" and it started downloading it and it was inrecovery mode the whole time .
when the download finished. i hit restore so i can put the software on the phone but the itunes had an error and the phone went glitchy and it does a rebooting loop. it shows the apple symbol with the slash through it for about 5 seconds and shuts off for a little bit (about another 5 seconds) and it starts up  then loops the process. ive managed to turn the phone off but if i start  it up it loops...what should i do? any help :/
Also it does not show up in my itunes because it is turning off to fast to detect.

Discussion of hacked phones is prohibited on these forums.  Sorry, you'll need to go elsewhere to get support for a j'broke iPhone.

  • I have two questions. Are unlocked iPhone 5 available in apple stores in US? Can i use a factory unlocked iPhone 5 (GSM) anywhere outside united states?

I have two questions. Are unlocked iphone 5 now available in Appple Stores in US? Can i use a factory unlocked iphone 5 (GSM) anywhere outside the United States?

The Apple (Republic of Ireland) online store has the unlocked Iphones 4, 4S and 5 for sale. They are dear but worth it. I ordered the unlocked I phone 5 last week. That said, retail Apple Stores do and will not carry the Iphone line instore. They do however sell some accessories for all Iphones but thats as far as the Irish retail stores go.
Its obvious to me that the Apple sales strategy for the US is different to the Irish one, so your retail stores may carry the unlocked versions at some point in the future.
Sorry I could not be of more help..

  • Question about Legally Unlocked iPhones & Update 'locking'?

Please forgive me if this has been covered before, as I am a totally newbie in this area.
I have a question regarding legally unlocked iphones:
If I bought an iphone from a country that offered legally unlocked cellphones like Singapore for example, and then used it/patched it up for the first time AFTER bringing it back into the US, would this 'lock' the cellphone to only work in the US, or with ATT?
The reason I ask is due to two points: A) I know that certain countries offer cellphones that were never locked to begin with. B) I have read that after installing the latest patch (2.2.1 I think) in the US, iphones that were previously locked and then unlocked, will be re-locked.
So my question is basically this: What would happen in the event that you update a phone that was never locked to begin with? Would it 'lock' for the first time? Or would it remain unlocked still?
    Thank you.

Legally unlocked iPhones have to be updated in the country where they were purchased to guarantee they are not relocked...Every country has their own iTunes -- When you connect to iTunes in the US you are connecting with a US ISP address on your computer. You would have a completely different ISP code in a different country.
Wait to update and see what others are finding before you attempt to update in the US. It is completely within Apple's right to relock phones used within the USA.
This is not the right forum site to get updates on this. A google search will bring up non-Apple websites where you will get up to date information about this.

  • Ask All Your Factory Unlocked iPhone 4S Questions Here!

So here is the deal, I recently purchased a factory unlocked iPhone 4S from the Apple store and I am using it on T-Mobile with a micro sim that I got from T-Mobile.  I have seen a few threads about this topic around the internet but I was weary of how the phone would work on T-Mobile.  So, if you have any questions regarding this phone, feel free to ask them here and I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have if youre thinking of buying one yourself! This was an upgrade for me from an unlocked and jailbroken 3G 16GB.

I am looking to upgrade my Samsung Vibrant to the iPhone 4s and want to stay with T-Mobile.  I live in Chicago and the only thing that has kept me back is the 3G.  Now that Tmobile supports 1900mhz I plan on getting the unlocked phone and hope to use tethering.
    Jlopez-
I too live in Chicago and I have been using the 4s on the T-mobile network since November. Everything works perfect: Facetime, iMessage, MMS, tethering (EDGE speeds) and push notifications. I think you're making the right decision in upgrading from the Vibrant to the 4s.
I am however anxiously looking forward to the 1900 mhz 2G refarming that is supposed to be taking place in the future. I did a little bit of research through Google searches and forums and found that T-mobile's 1900 mhz in Chicago operates on a frequency that is likely to be a candidate for one of the upcoming refarmed markets. Not sure how accurate the information is but I hope it's right. I couldn't find any speculation of dates other than late 2012 and in some cases late 2013. Hope this helps.

  • Question about buying an unlocked iphone 2g

Hey guys, so I have tmobile and Im using the blackberry. Ive had the iphone 3g before. Im starting to get back in the iphone mood. Ive been looking online for an unlocked iphone 2g. I am trying to be a little frugal and not spend alot of $$ but what im wondering is, is it worth it to pay the $200-$300 for an unlocked original iphone?? The newer iphones unlocked are really expensive. What do you guys think?? Cya.

"Let the buyer beware" applies big time when purchasing a used iPhone online especially an iPhone that has been hacked to be unlocked. This prevents installing a future firmware update since doing so re-locks the iPhone and the hack used to unlock the iPhone no longer compatible.
Hacking an iPhone for any reason is against Apple's license agreement for the iPhone, and is not supported by Apple directly or indirectly via these discussions.
An officially unlocked iPhone is expensive, but if such an iPhone is purchased new or used, the warranty and support is honored in the country where the iPhone was sold as officially unlocked only.

  • Officially Unlocked iPhone 3g extremely importan question

I am going to buy an officially unlocked iPhone 3g, and I need to clear up one main point of issue.
Will I be able to update to 2.0.2 and future firmwares without any problems(ie. having to reunlock it)? Since Apple won't be releasing the iPhone in Bahrain, all the shops are bringing officially unlocked ones from abroad, and I just want to know if I can update it or not without having to reunlock it.

If you mean buying an unlocked phone like Apple themselves are selling via Apple Store's in Hong Kong, I think that still might be a bit of a guessing game. Maybe iTunes will still lock it to the first carrier SIM you put in when you activate it?
I think in some European countries, where it's also sold in various states of carrier-unlock, it still may only activate within the known carriers in that region, but until more people start trying them out in more countries, there won't be a lot of hard data.
I bet the Apple Store in Hong Kong will have a hard time keeping those unlocked babies in stock!

  • Questions regarding my legally unlocked iphone 3G

    Hi,
I recently traveled to livigno (in the alps of Italy)and i stumbled across an unlocked iphone 3G at an electronics store (not an apple store just a regular electronics store).
the guy told me that it was legally unlocked and that i could make software updates. but after what i've heard , i am not sure if i should take the risk and upgrade to 2.2.1 from 2.2
how can i know that it is legally unlocked and that i can update without the phone being locked ()bricked.
I live in malta and using it in malta.
    Thanking you in advance,
    Andrew

Thing is i dont know if he was authorised. And on the box, there was no name of a service provider on the picture of the iphone, usually there is at&t or something, thats why i think its legally unlocked, and the fact that when i plugged it into the computer. Itunes told me to activate it but not full activating with plans, just my itunes account and where i live

  • I am planning on buying an unlocked iPhone 5 with a T-Mobile Nano Sim. I have a few questions.

I was planning on buying a 32GB unlocked iPhone 5 with the T-Mobile Nano Sim. I was going to activate the Sim with T-Mobile's prepaid $30 unltd text/data with 100 minutes plan. I've read some stories online where people were only able to use the Sim with T-Mobile's post-paid plans. Will the Sim that comes included work with prepaid and post-paid plans?
Also, assuming that it does work with prepaid, what steps would I need to go through to activate the iPhone?
Assuming that it doesn't, would cutting down a prepaid Micro Sim from T-Mobile to Nano Sim size work normally?
    Thank you in advance!

Yes. The T-Mobile nanoSIM which came with the  full price, unlocked iPhone 5 will work for a prepaid plan. However, neither Apple retail store employees nor the T-Mobile customer svc reps know this. It was quite an ordeal to activate. I had to order the prepaid activation kit online, wait for its arrival by snail mail, then use the activation code from the kit with the nanoSIM to activate the prepaid monthly plan $30/mon for 100 min+ unlim text + 5 GB 4G/LTE. I live in Pasadena, CA, and the 4G and LTE coverage here is extensive and reliable.
I tossed the SIM which came with the activation kit.
My local T-Mobile retail store wouldn't sell me a prepaid activation kit when I told them that I wanted the web-only $30/mon plan. The customer svc reps couldn't or wouldn't give me an activation code to use either.

  • Issue with Airplane Mode on legitimately unlocked iPhone

    Hi,
I bought an iPhone in Australia from a distributor for one of the large carriers. I bought the white 16Gb outright and paid the fee to have the phone unlocked (as is permitted in Australia). It all worked well with both an Aus and a UK SIM card I had.
The white plastic back then cracked so I took it to an Apple store where they replaced it. I told the Genius that I'd had it unlocked and he said no problems, etc, etc.
He replaced the phone and I took it home, all seemed to work well. Again, with both SIMs.
I installed the 2.2 firmware upgrade.
    Now to the troublesome bit.
Sitting in Melbourne airport, about to leave Australia for some significant time, I swapped the SIMs over and the phone started complaining about needing to be connected to iTunes.
I did this and it unlocked (again).
Question 1: Do I really have to connect to iTunes every time I change the SIM?
I replaced the SIM with my Aus one and turned the phone off to fly to Kuala Lumpur. On arrival in KL I swapped SIMs again, went through the hassle of connecting to iTunes to unlock.
Then, as I wanted to use the phone on my net flight to watch movies and play Fuzzle, I turned on Airplane Mode with the UK SIM.
The phone instantly complains about the SIM being changed and asks to be connected to iTunes. I did this (getting annoyed at this point)! This time, iTunes reports that the phone is fauly and I should take to an Apple Store
I then replaced the SIM with my Aus one, and it all started working nicely again including allowing me to use Airporne Mode.
Question 2: Why can't I use Airplane Mode when my UK SIM is installed?
This seems like a bug to me, rather than some complication with Airplane mode. Surely if my phone has been unlocked and I can make calls with both SIMs, then I can use Airplane Mode regardless of which SIM I'm using?
Added complication here is that I'm not going back to Australia for a while (maybe years), so unless Apple are nice to me and decide that the phone is faulty and will replace it in the UK, I'm going to be left with an expensive, and white, iPod Touch.
    Cheers for any suggestions,
    Ian

I don't think the problem lies specifically with the SIM card, but with the software on the phone.
I would appreciate others trying to replicate my problem with their iPhones. Simple steps (requireing an unlocked iPhone) are...
    1. Insert original SIM card (all should be fine)
    2. Remove orginal SIM card and replace with second carrier SIM
    3. Sync with iTunes to get the phone working again.
    4. Either turn on Airplane Mode or turn the phone off and on again.
    5. The phone (at least mine) will require you to connect to iTunes again.
Turning on Airplane Mode or turning the phone off and on with the original SIM card inserted doesn't lead to this behaviour.
