Question on updating iphoto

I am in iphoto 9.1.3, I no longer have the scrollbar on the right of the screen. When I try to update iphoto to 9.2.1, , I get the msg: The Update "Iphoto Update" cannot be installed. Software Update can’t connect to the update server. Make sure you’re connected to the Internet, and then try again.  Obviously I am on the internet as i am using this support community, can anyone help?

    Thx

The downloaded file is incomplete? Never larger han 400 MB? According to http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1650 it should be 730.91 MB.
Is your network stable? Do you have any anti virus filters or firewalls active?
Do you have enough free disk space?
I'll ask the hosts to relocate your question to the AppStore forum. There are more experts for this kind of problem.
I see you solved it. Great!

  • Updated iPhoto to v1.1 and now library is damaged?

I just updated my iPhoto to the newest software update - v1.1.  However, when I open iPhoto now I keep getting the prompt "Your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened.  Please restore from a backup".  Does anyone know why this is happening?  Worst is that I did NOT do a backup before I updated iPhoto.
I've been trying to restore my thumbnails, checking my permissions, etc and the prompt continues to come up.  Please help!!

Try quitting iPhoto for iOS and restarting it.
Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it works normally.
    Try to reboot your iPad.
Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite,  Created new apple ID as couldn't remember last one now can't update iPhoto receive message this update not available for this apple Id either because it was bought by a different user or item refunded or cancelled.

upgraded to Yosemite and now can't update Iphoto or Imovies receiving message this update not available for this apple ID because it was bought by a different user or item refunded or cancelled.  Is there an easy fix

Unfortunately, anything obtained at the app store remains tied to the Apple ID used to obtain it forever. You will either have to start over with your new ID or try to recover the original ID.

  • Updated iPhoto to 9.2.3, lost majority of photos - help!

We updated iPhoto as recommended by Apple to version 9.2.3 and immediately had trouble with no photos showing in iPhoto.  The photo folder on the Mac drive is empty, and was the primary location for storing and accessing photos. After finding the iPhoto backup library on the My Book external drive, I imported and only recovered 1,000 of 10,000+ photos. The recovery files are dated with photos from 2005 - 2009, and nothing from 2010 to present.  It also required me to update the iPhoto library file upon import, something which I expected would automatically occur as part of the application update.
I am running an  iMac with OS X 10.6.8.
Already tried to rebuild the library by launching iPhoto and holding command/option.  No new files were recovered. Any tips/advice is much appreciated to help recover 4 years of family memories!
Frustrating to see the continued degradation of Apple's competive advantage: seamless interoperability and ease of use.  The iphone synch with itunes is a whole other discussion...
    Thanks,
    Scott

Terrence: thanks for taking the time to reply. Here are replies to your questions:
    Pictures folder = yes
Back up historically performed manually to My Book.
Wife performed the iPhoto update yesterday and did not back up prior to update.
Why did you not restore? = new version of iPhoto not able to find or recognize the iPhoto library on the Mac drive. When launching iPhoto application after the update, and the application is attempting to pull from the Mac drive database, it is a never ending spinning wheel of white dashes as if searching but never finding.
Why import from the backup? = Since no photos will load from the Mac drive database, I attempted to restore from the backup on My Book as the source
Clarify the 'update the iPhoto library file' = when attempting to import the iPhoto library backup file from My Book (after the above sequence and failing in attempts to load from the Mac picture database), iPhoto required the My Book iPhoto library file to be updated, or reconfigured (can't confirm the exact language here), before proceeding.  It was definitely a separate prompt and process from the app update.
Why are you mentioning crash reports when there is no mention of crashes? = after the initial post, I went back to my attempts to relaunch iPhoto and it crashed multiple times. Thought I would add in this thread (10 minutes later) in case it was helpful to someone assisting to resolve these issues.
Certainly not looking to editorialize, but I've been using Mac products since the Apple IIe.  By no means an expert, as you can see by my problems here , but the reality is that the proliferation of peripherals makes it increasingly challenging for the average tech user to navigate compatibility, synching devices, etc.  Heck, I had to spend $1,500 on a new iMac just to get my iPad funcational a couple of years ago (my Mac Mini didn't support a current OS to run an iTunes version needed to activate the iPad).
Not hating, I'm an unabashed Mac lover (9 devices and growing).  Also not ignorant to the challenges that developers and us 'tech users' face in the real world.
Thanks and again I truly appreciate your input!

  • Updated iPhoto but won't open with Yosemite, why?

Updated to Yosemite, said to update iPhoto.  Downloaded iPhoto but it will not open.  Help.

    Found this on another thread:
    jeudi999Apr 9, 2015 10:07 AM
    Yosemite with Photos app :
Apple wrote : You can still use your original photo library with iPhoto 9.6.1 and Aperture 3.6 after you've migrated it to Photos. Any changes you make in iPhoto or Aperture after you migrate to Photos, like image edits or album changes, will be visible only in iPhoto or Aperture.
BUT does it mean what it says. There is still an iPhoto Library on your Laptop... and ‘copies’ are sent to the cloud to be used by other devices.
See my question above. We are 1000 miles from any CLOUD source when at sea. I need to be able to use/work with photos.

I have tried to do a SMC Reset and PRAM reset and it still will not work.  Before the update I was burning pics onto the same dics with no problem.
Any suggestions on what to do?

  • How to update iphoto that was downloaded with old id with new id? my older id email does no longer exist :(

I downloaded iphoto years ago on my MBP but then changed my apple id a bit after, now that I need to update iphoto it asks for my older id bit i cant remember the questions and the email was does not exist anymore. what can I do?

You need to ask Apple to reset that account's security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • Am I able to update iphoto (USA) for free after installing OS X Yosemite?

I currently do not have access to my photos and the updated iphoto application needed to open them is not available in the US App Store.  Is there any way to get access to my photos without paying extra?  Thanks for your help.
    Soooo disappointed with Apple,
    HG

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Cannot open and update IPhoto after upgrading to OXYosemite

From the App store, I downloaded and installed OXYosemite. There are 2 more updates available: iPhoto and iMovie. When I try to upload them, the notice I get is "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID  This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
I have 2 apple IDs when I inquire about my ids. Signing in App Store with either of them, doesn't resolve the problem. I get the same notice. iTunes, Mac, mobile downloads, all use the same apple IP, only for the computer downloads from App Store isn't working.
    What should I do?
    Thanks, Sev

I have the same problem and can't find out how to correct it.  Unable to update iPhoto or iMovie .. I get the same message as above user.  Help!

  • I can't update iPhoto after upgrading to Mavericks

I have searched everywhere for my iLife '11 disc and can't find it.  App Store says I must update iPhoto, iMovie etc, but won't accept my Apple id.  Can't talk to apple support without first agreeing to pay $60!!. Can someone tell me what to do next??

App Store says I must update iPhoto, iMovie etc, but won't accept my Apple id.
If your versions of iPhoto, etc have been installed using a different AppleID, then you have to ask the person who installed it to authorize the update.
Or uninstall the current versions and buy the updatetd versions.
If you are sure, that the versions have been accepted to your current AppleID, there may be aproblem with your AppleID. Sometimes an AppleID will be disabled for use with the AppStore for security reasons. Do you get an error message, that indicates a problem with your AppleID?

  • I can't update iPhoto after upgrading to Yosemite.

When I attempt to update iPhoto I get the message, "Unable to update with this Apple ID"  "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
I did not purchase iPhoto via the App Store, it was installed on my iMac when I purchased it.  How can I get iPHoot working again?

This error message will appear erraneously, if you skipped the update to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1 and went straight from an earlier MacS X version to Yosemite, without first updating to iPhoto 9,5.1 and associating it to your AppleID.
Try first to buy iPhoto with your AppleID, as Kappy suggested. Delete iPhoto from Applications, but don't empty the Trash, then go to the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto. If you are lucky, it will show as free and you can buy it directly.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support: Ask for a redemption code. You will need to provide a prove of purchase for your mac with iPhoto preinstalled.
