Question on upgrades of elements

I am using the free trial of Elements. I am looking into buying elements 8 premiere because I need the video and photo editing options.
I am a former Corel PSPX2 user when they upgraded this last time I hate the new Corel PSPx3 but I like to stay current, I know I make no sense.
When you purchase Corel, you pay like 129.99 for the full download. So say I bought pspx2 full program because I never had it before, well pspx3 comes out and I like it so now I just have to pay the upgrade fee which is like 1/2 the money.
Is adobe like that? Where you pay full price the first program, then pay a fraction of the cost when they upgrade the program for the new year?
Thanks in advance
Missi

They don't offer an upgrade price -- but for what you get, $99 is pretty good for Elements 8 -- and it includes a $20 mail-in rebate, and that's list price from Adobe -- I hear Amazon has a deal on right now and does from time to time.
Personally I am not getting 8 nor did I get 6, so I have basically paid out $40 a year for 4 years.

  • Question re upgrading from Elements 8 to Elements 11

Will my catalog and all my tags convert/import into Elements 11?  The last time I upgraded Elements, I lost all my catalog info, including all tags.  Don't want that to happen again.

There should be no problem. I have converted many PSE6 and PSE10 catalogs into PSE11.
See that faq which is still valid for PSE11:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-catalog-backup-conversion-elemen ts.html
It's best to start with a clean PSE8 catalog after reconnecting, repairing and optimizing.

  • Upgrade Album2 - Elements 6, with change of platform and computer

I posted this in Album Forum but it has been suggested that I repost in Elements Forum as anyone who has already had the same question is probably already here:
I have searched the forums and knowledge base for the issue that faces me and while there is a lot of very useful information most deals with one aspect alone or circumstances that are slightly different - unless I have missed one.
I currently have Album 2 (full version) with about 5000 photos along with tags etc, running on Windows XP.
I have just purchased a windows Vista Home Premium machine and Elements 6/Premiere 4. I wish, obviously, to transfer the photos and files along with thumbnails/catalog to the new machine. In doing this, it appears that I am doing three things that are not necessarily straight forward:
    (1) Transferring machines where the directory structure is not the same
    (2) Transferring platform from XP to Vista
    (3) Upgrading to Elements 6 which I understand does not use the same catalog structure and file locations as earlier versions of Elements.
So, while there are useful forum posts on upgrading, say, between album and elements 4, the changes between Elements 4 and 6 make me a little wary. I can pick up individual KB articles and posts on individual stages but I would be grateful for any advice from those who know more, or have done the same, on the order or actions to get between Album 2 XP to Elements 6 Vista. I suspect that done properly it is no major drama but done poorly is a recipe for long agony!
Thanks for any and all advice.

    jabro,
I am not sure what to suggest next -
1- You could contact Adobe tech support and ask for the complimentary installation support for PS Elements version 6 and describe your Catalog upgrade problem.
2- Because you are upgrading from PS Album to PS Elements 6, I think that most of your Creations will not be usable in PS Elements 6. So I am wondering about your creating a new copy of your catalog in PS Album 2 and deleting all of your Creations from that copy of your catalog?
My objective here is to simplify your PSA 2 catalog as much as possible. I don't know if it is the Creations that cause a problem in the conversion: it is merely that if you can not use them anyway they are a good candidate for deletion.
3- I wonder if some specific type of file or even a specific file is a problem. What type of photo files do you have in your PSA 2 catalog? Any video files and what type?

What do you mean by "not compatible"? What happens, exactly, when you try to print?

  • I currently own Elements 10 for PC and want to upgrade to Elements 12 for MAC.  Is there a MAC version?

I currently own Elements 10 for PC and want to upgrade to Elements 12 for MAC.  Is there a MAC version?

    mommag
Yes there is a Premiere Elements 12 Mac.
Premiere Elements versions are standalone programs. So you would be purchasing a new program with its serial number.
Upgrade typically goes to a price break if you have a prior version of Premiere Elements and you purchase from Adobe Sales direct.
Years ago, a user could purchase at a local retailer and get "rebate from Adobe" based on having an earlier version. I have not seen that anymore (for years).
Remember Premiere Elements 10 Windows projects do not work in Premiere Elements Mac (any version) and the other way around also.
Also Premiere Elements Mac does not have all the attributes that Premiere Elements Windows has. One example, if you work with green screen, know that Premiere Elements Mac does not have the Green Screen Key, Blue Screen Key, or Chroma Key Effects.
Please let us know if we have targeted your question.
    Thank you.

  • I have a upgrade from elements 9 to elements 11

Hi I have a mac and Elements 9 and an upgrade to Elements 11 serial < removed by forum host>. Can all the Adobe Photoshope Elements 9 and 11 be deleted and I start the loading again will this fix? When I upgraded to 11 the first time with the trial it listed all the file names in the folder list on the left side but now thay are in a difrent formate with no names after reloading the up grade. Can you help me please. Best Regards Phil Mowbray.

What is ment by <Moving to PSE Forums> please explaine reply?
You posted in the wrong place, so they moved your question to the Photoshop Elements forum.
To remove PSE, use the uninstaller for each version that is located in its folder in your Applications folder.

  • I dont want to upgrade to elements!

Every time I open photoshop CS4 (having had it for years) a window opens asking me for the serial number in order to upgrade to elements.  I dont want to upgrade and I no longer have the serial number anyhow.  How can I stop this window appearing each time I open photoshop?
    thank you!

Okay, now I have to ask some REALLY basic questions:
    You did buy Photoshop, right?
At any point after your purchase, did you enter the serial number from the media you got from Adobe?
Assuming you did, it sounds as though Photoshop now has some problem with its licensing setup, and that it's running as a demo for you - which is not good.  Sooner or later it may expire.
I think I'd next advise going to the following page and running the Adobe Licensing Repair Tool, and if that doesn't work I'd call Adobe support.

  • I just upgrades from elements 7

I just upgraded from elements 7 to elements 11 and I cannot access my photoshop.com website. What am I missing

The 'Backup/sync to Photoshop.com' functionality is no longer supported in PSE11. Instead of Photoshop.com we have added support for Import/Export to Adobe Revel. Try this out and let us know your feedback. You can have more info on this here regarding other questions http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/is_photoshop_com_supported_in_elemen ts_11
Here is a guide to help you with Adobe Revel import/export functionality from PSE 11. http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/elements-organizer/using/revel.html
    Hope it helps.

  • Duplicate photo's in Revel and Elements after upgrade to Elements 12

I subscribed to Revel in Nov. 2013 and used my Windows Elemennts 11 app to upload all my photos.  I recently upgraded to Elements 12 and linked it to my Revel account.  This resulted in complete duplication of every image both in Revel and in my Elements 12 catalog.  I tried deleting the duplicates in Elements 12, but since there are thousands, it is not feasible.
What are my options?  Do I delete the Revel photos after unlinking the Revel account from Elements?  Can I rebuild my Elements 12 catalog from the picture files, (I had the metadata written to each file).?  Is there any automated way to delete duplicates in my Elements 12 catalog?
I would have thought Adobe would have thought through how this could occur and provided upgrade safeguards against duplication.
    Help!

    jfairbai,
Kindly try the steps below to recover from this issue.
In Elements, From Edit>Preferences>Adobe Revel, turn OFF “Automatically access all my catalog in Adobe Revel” if checked.
Sign out from Revel inElements through the same Adobe Revel preferences dialog.
    Click on Sign in again.
Select Signin as another user. This action deletes the downloaded smaller previews of media in catalog.
    Now you have two options:
After step 4, sign in again with same user but choose to upload specific photos only while signin in. In this case all photos and video would not automatically be uploaded to Revel and you would need to mark the media manually for upload which are not there on Revel but are in Elements catalog. You need to be cautious of not choosing “All photos and videos” later as well as whenever you do so, the media would be duplicated again. Also here the media on Revel and Elements are not linked as both of them are different copies. So if you edit one, other is not updated.
After steps 4, delete all media from Revel application and login again from Elements with the same user. This option takes more time as all upload happen again but this will ensure that the media in Elements and Revel are linked. So if any changes happen like editing or adding tags, captions, the changes are refelected in other as well.
Elements also provide a way to remove duplicate photos through Find>by visual searches> Duplicate photos. This option present you with a dialog where you can see the duplicate photos grouped. However this option would take a lot of time as well as for each group, you would manually check the location of media by mouse hovering an ensuring that you are deleting the smaller sized preview and keeping the large sized original locally.

  • Will my catalog safely Upgrade from Elements 5 to Elements 8?

I have over 16,000 photos tagged in my Elements 5 catalog.  I am hesitant to upgrade to 8 for fear of not being able to reconnect to the catalog.  Any assurances or tips?  Chet

As long as there is nothing currently wrong with your catalog and nothing interferes with the conversion process, you should have a save catalog conversion.
Besides, when the conversion takes place, a copy of your catalog is created. So even if the conversion fails for some reason, you'll still have your original catalog working in PSE5.

  • Question about upgrading iTunes multiple computers with shared library

    Greetings,
I have a question about upgrading to the current version of iTunes.
Currently, my household uses 3 Mac computers (2 Powerbook 17in laptops and a Mack Mini). We are all (currently) on system 10.4.11 (with iTunes 9.2.1). Between the 3 computers we have a shared iTunes music and video library on a networked high capacity hard drive.
We recently purchased an iPad. In order to make it easy for updates and to use media from our iTunes shared library I decided that we should upgrade the systems on our home computers to Snow Leopard. I have ensured that all the computers have at lease 2 Gb of RAM and adequate hard drive space.
The only possible problem I see is that one of the Powerbook laptops uses the old Motorola processor. (This is one of the last Powerbooks to use that processor.) I don’t think this computer can be upgraded to Snow Leopard.
My question is, if I upgrade 2 of the computers (and iTunes in the process), will I still be able to access the shared iTunes library using the older computer with the older system and iTunes? Will the upgrade process change the iTunes library in such a way that the one older computer will no longer be able to properly access that library?
Are there any other problems I might encounter having a mixed system/iTunes environment?
    Thank you,
    Tim

Just a thought. Should I somehow open iTunes on MBP2 using MBP1's Library file??
both Macs can access the same library file, however, only one at a time !
to do that, you would ideally have the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) on the external. then, on one Mac after the other, launch iTunes while holding the option key, click on +choose library+ when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.
or, you could have two separate libraries and keep those in sync using third party tools such as Syncopation, TuneRanger or SuperSync.
for purchases from the iTunes store, you could set up _*Home Sharing*_ - it can be configured to automatically transfer new purchases to home shared libraries.
Can I create a script to have MBP1 always save the iTunes Library file on the shared hard drive?
    no need.

Question. I have elements 10 My photos have a question mark in the upper left hand corner of the photo. Why? What do i do to get rid of it?

No, you will have to replace the switch or do an out-of-warranty replacement at an Apple Store.
