Question on web analysis

Hi,Experts..
Here is an interesting question which come across in hyperion reporting..
we have volume and value in our measures..
volume exist for PRODUCT LINE-ASM-VERSION-TIME PERIOD-IDENTIFIER
value exist for PRODUCT LINE-ASM-VERSION-TIME PERIOD.
I loaded data by using header concepts....
In getting reports..i need to club these volume and value(both) to attain other value.How to do this in web analysis....
its an requirement...

If I take only one parent member the drill up works fine but if i take all 2 memeber as above and i decide to drill up on one of the two element occur that the drill work for the two elements at the same time.
Afetr the drill in this case the situation is:
IS05101010-PUBBLICITA'
ED05101010-PUBBLICITA'
Can be a problem due to shared memebers?

The importatnt thing is rate difference is a fact value(not available in the cube) which calculated from "version-1 volume minus version-2 volume" (1003->volume - 1000->volume).whwn i try to do in analysis tool functionality in web analysis,the rate difference will be coming as in 2 columns for both version...
My idea is to write a calculation script.but while writing calculation script the rate difference will not be there in the cube level..if i write the scripts how can i validate...
How to proceed to this?

I'm not quite sure how your outline is- & your complete reporting requirements(,for the report you mentioned).
However, I presume, Version is one of the dimensions having *1000* & *1003* as members. And, Volume is one of the members in your Measures+ dimension.
If yes, what's the issue if we select Version(s) in Column & Volume in the row. You can certainly add a column-level calculation for seeing the desired difference.
Let us know incase of any concerns.

Question about Web analysis calcalation

I created a WA document. In the column, i choose the dim Year and Version. the customer want to change the Version member any time as they need and want to calc the difference between Versions. For example, if they chose Version1 and Version2, then i need to add a column to calc Version1 - Version2. But if they chose Version 2 and Version3, i need to calc Version2 - Version3. How can i make it?

the customer want to see the difference any time they want. If we use the Substitution Variables, it's hard to change the value for the end user usually has no right to access EAS.
Is there others ways to solve this problem?

Few Hyperion Web Analysis questions

Hi All,
We are using Web Analysis 11.1.2 and i am a newbie to it. I have few questions regarding reports which may be of very basic level;
Q1. If we right click on a report then we have an option of "Edit data" through which we can enter data directly into planning. My question is that how can i disable this option for all users as i don't want them to manipulate any data through a report?
Q2. As we have made a report in which we have used the dimension members that are used in Hyperion planning. The name of member in Hyperion planning for example is ABC and i want to change the name to XYZ in Hyperion Web analysis report. How is that possible?

Q1 depends on the level of provisioning and or useraccess permissions on essbase/olap level.
Use Shared Services in combination with EAConsole to restrict this.
Q@. In plain/ native essbase you can add aliases to the member. Normally you do not edit planning members in essbase (since you have to change them in planning it self) But perhaps you can. You can give it a try in a testenvironment.

Web Analysis Question

Is there a way in Web Analysis to only show selected amounts of data from a spreadhseet on a chart?

Have you tried using the "Keep Only" function?
Let's say you have an Actual vs. Budget report and the chart shows both scenarios. On WA, you can right click on Actual, and click on Keep Only. Now, both your spreadsheet and chart will show Actual only.

Issue opening Web Analysis report

I create, with buttons, links between reports in web analysis. Sometimes when I click on one of them in workspace, it doesn't open linked report, but another one. Furthermore this last one is automatically saved as the previous report, and I can't open the original linked report. Any suggestion about this ?

Thanks for your reply to my query posted in this forum. Please find my inline answers between asterisk to your questions:
Whatz the source of your Grid? Relational SQL Query (OR) A spreadsheet with Essbase database connection file?
* Yes, the source is Essbase.*
If source is Essbase, it seems- Outline might've got altered when you're trying to refresh the report.
* The outline was in tandem when we tried running this report in WebAnalysis. This outline & WebAnalysis report which is in Dev Server is a replica of the one in Test Server where it runs fine. *
If source is based on a Relational SQL query, chances are that- Query is no longer valid.
* NA as this statement is NOT applicable to our source.*
If it's Essbase, it's also likely that- It ran out of time while fetching the data from Essbase. You may try playing around with the parameters in Essbase.cfg file.
* This might be one of the causes, but I double checked the all the tunning parameters in Essbase.cfg file in place.*
Could you please through more observation on this issue. Let me know if any further information is needed!.

Interactive Reportin vs Web Analysis

Hi all
I've a question about Interactive Reporting (IR).
I know that I can design a report based on Multidimensional DB using Web Analysis (WA), Financial Report (FR), and IR.
3 ways to get data from same DB. I don't know so well IR, so I ask: According to your experience and knowledge, in which situations you advice to use IR?
Usually, I rely on Web Analysis, sometimes I use FR when I need particular formatting that I can't do using Web Analysis.
My client (future, I hope, now it's just a prospect) has many report done with IR, I cannot analyze them. He says they're slow. Any issue related to performance or other things?

Thanks for the response. Does OBIEE 11g have dashboard capabilities that can build dashboards from multidimensional data source such as Essbase? The reason I ask this question is that we have two different teams working at this client: one for implementing Oracle EBS and the other Oracle Hyperion (I am part of Hyperion team). The next phase of our project involves implementing OBIEE. If I am understanding you right, Web Analysis (or for that matter, Interactive Reporting) is NOT needed if OBIEE is being implemented?

Web Analysis does not drill down (Essbase datasource)

Hi!
I have a web analysis document which does not drill down to next level when double clicking on a parent level. In my report I have children of Area dimension selected individually and their parent on rows ( this means I have not used selection where I select only top member and its children; this is because one of the children should not be in the report). This is not an security issue, because I have admin rights to the essbase cube.
Usually when double-clicking on a member in report it should drill down to next level. This report does not drill down.
The strange thing is that if I select "Keep Only" for the top member of that dimension and then double-click it then drills down nicely???
When using a excel add-in and retrieving data there the same kind of report drills down without problems. Any ideas why this drill down does not work properly in Workspace (and also in Web Analysis Stuidio) ?

Hi!
I checked out the dimension in question. It seems to have implied shares (parent having only one child). There seems to be implied shares in almost all child hierarchies which might explain the web analysis behaviour.
We are using V11. The application is an aggregate storage application.

Drill Down and Drill UP on Web Analysis Report

Hi all,
I have a question regarding Drill down and Drill up on Web Analysis Report.
The situation is the following:
I've created a report with some account parent elements in row. The dimension account has a multiple hierarchy.
I need to drill down on the child of these elements keeping the parente on top and so i've selected the option "Selected Member First".
The drill down it's ok for the first drill to go on the next level but when i drill down once more to go on the next level of the selected member hierarchy the drill move this level out hierarchy.
Can someone help me on this point?
After that i've drilled just to the last level when i drill up on these elements to return on the previous level i note that in the report happens a strange thing:
The Drill Up works fine but on the report appears another elements which is the same parent with anothe code/alias of another hierarchy instead of the Selected member.
On this i've noted tha this 2 different parente have the same elements...I think that the children of the selected memeber can be shared members....Can be this the problem?

Error :Web launch operation has been cancelled.
Can anyone help me to resolve this issues

I realized that I can put a block in WebI and then I can pull that in excel alongside of static header, after putting the question.
My interest to know whether it is by design in XI 3.0 or it is an issue. But by the replies it seems to me like it is by design.
@Anis: I can't go for header as part of Body. Because this report is viewed in Web by many other users. I can't have separate report for Live office, it is a restriction for me. If I use the header in body, it wont look good I guess.

i am new to web anlysis reports, can we create reports without data in cube in web analysis?( reports templete would be visible without data in cube) because when i tried to create report, i got data is not available after putting all dimensions in rows, column and filters. Can you please anser to this basic question?

No, as only intersections with data are returned in the reports. You'll need data to see the reports generate.
Web Analysis is very much a dynamic analysis tool, unlike FR, which has mostly static content (in the form of headers, columns and rows.
You could probably add data to one member across all dimensions (for example the value 1) and then fix on that member for the report testing.

How to avoid the Web Analysis Studio applet window?

I know we can launch Hyperion Web Analysis Studio in two ways.
1. From Workspace
2. Using the direct URL for Web Analysis Studio
In both cases, first a window launches with the title of Web Analysis Studio and with the message "Session in progress. Do not close this window...". And then another window launches for the actual Web Analysis Stuido tool.
My questions:
1. If a dashboard or report is launched directly using the WA URL for executives, this may be annoying for them to have an additional window. Is there a way to suppress this initial window by giving any parameter in the URL?
2. I know that user id,password and report name can be passed through the URL. What other parameters can be passed through the URL for Web Analysis server?

Multiple instances of Web Analysis

Is it possible to have 2 instances of Web Analysis (seperate physical servers) point to a single respository and a single instance of Shared Services. We would like to dedicate one server to internal (LAN/WAN) users and one for external (Internet) access, but want to maintain one set of reports and security. Any assistance will be appreciated. Version 9.3.1.0 running on Win2003 Server with Tomcat.

Substitution Variables Not Working in Web Analysis

<p>Our current month /current year (CMCY)substitution variables donot work in Web Analysis. The variables are set up properlyon the Essbase server and work fine with the excel add-in. The prior month / current year (PMCY)sub variable does workin Web Analysis. Does anyone know why web analysis is hit ormiss with sub variables?</p>
