QUESTION - PRINT TO SIZE???

This is the 2nd time I'm trying to get a little help. Using Photoshop CC, I have my image on screen. I want to print an 8 x 10 on my home printer, or a 16 x 20 from an outside source, such as STAPLES, etc. I select the crop tool, then go into the "ratio" window above and select 8 x 10. I use the SHIFT to keep proportions, then drag one or more corners to make the crop I want. I save the file. (I'm over-explaining this so members won't wonder what I'vel eft out..) If I attempt to print an 8 x 10 on my Canon home printer, the preview window shows if one side is 8" the other must be 11"+. If I put the saved JPEG on a disc or USB and bring it to STAPLES to get a 16 x 20, they put it in their computer and see the same problem:  the file looks like it's too wide, and if they were to print one side 16" the other dimension ends up 23"+, unless they crop it.
What am I doing wrong?  Or does Photoshop CC's ratio window have a bug?
Direct reply to [email protected] is welcome.

OK lets look at each issue you need to deal with.
First if you image come from your digital camera the will have one of the following aspect ratios 3:2, 4:3 or 16:9.
You want to print two sizes 8"x10" and 16"x20 both prints are a 5:4 aspect ratio.
You need to either crop you camera images to a 5:4 aspect ratio or use something like content aware scale to distort them to the 5"4 aspect ratio.  If you crop you images  and I'll suggest that is the best way to go. You will loose portions of the images.  This is not bad treat it as a opportunity to improve your image's composition.
Your in control of the crop. These need not be centered corps or even the maximum size 4:5 crops possible.  When you crop think composition. What 5:4 composition will look best.  You can use the crop tool or the marquee tool to draw out the 5:4 area. Both tool can be set to constrain the area to an aspect ratio.  5:4 and 4:5 are the same aspect ratio, with different orientation. Both tool have a little icon to toggle orientation. If you use the crop tool you can set to resample to a print size and resolution resolution.  I do not.  I prefer to see how many pixel I wind up with.  Before I decide if resampling is needed.
Printing once you have your 5:4 composition you need to set the print size and decide if you have sufficient pixels for it to print well. IMO for a good 8"x10" you need a print resolution near 300 DPI and for a good 16"x20" a resolution near 200 DPI.  You may or may not have to resample the crop for the two print files. Use menu Image>Image Size.  In the image size dialog un-check resample in this mode Width Height and Resolution are all constrained.  All you need do is to enter you two print size width into the width field and look are the resulting resolution.  If they are in the ballpark of 300 and 200 DPI.  You do not need to resample.  Just set the 8" width click OK and save you home print jpeg file. The use image size again set the 16" width click OK and save you Staple size file.  If the resulting resolutions were too low check resample. Leave the width and Height constrain setting on. Set the 8" width in you will see 10" in the height and some DPI value.  Change the resolution value to 300 choose the interpolation to use click OK and save your home print file. The back up in to before the 8" resize and use Image Size to resize 16: wide and change the resolution to 200 click OK and save your Staple print file.
Photoshop Home Printer setting. Most likely you will be print on 8.5"x11" Photo Paper which heed to set set in the printer settings and also you need to turn off the device driver color management in the printer settings. In Photoshop print dialog you need to set Photoshop manages the color the printer Paper profile to uses.

  • How do you change the default size of the print batch size for mail merge in Publisher 2010?

I appended this question to another thread with the same topic but have not received a reply, so I'll try with a new question. Publisher 2010, when doing mail merge, will only merge and print two records at a time. How do you change the default size of
the print batch size? This is for a 4 page document, 8 1/2 x 11, printed two sides on 11 x 17. I've tried all the suggestions that were in the other thread. The response that was marked as the answer by the moderator is incorrect and does not work. Nothing
suggested in that thread works. A registry fix that worked for Publisher 2003 won't work because the print batch size key does not exist in the registry for Pub 2010. At least not that I can find. Printing to an XPS document doesn't work. It asks for a filename,
prints 2 records, asks for new file name, prints 2 records, asks for new file name, and so on. The same for printing to a PDF document. Merging to a new Pub document doesn't work. When I print that job every other sheet is turned over. I.e., sheet one has
pages 1 & 3 on top, next sheet has 3 & 4 on top, and so on. This makes it impossible to run them through the folder. The same thing happens when I print that complete merged document to XPS or PDF. I have the latest drivers installed for our printer, a Toshiba
2500C copier/printer connected via network. What do I need to do to to change the batch size to something reasonable, like 100 records?

It's been two weeks since I posted this question. What does it take to get an answer? I cannot believe it's being ignored, nor can I believe that someone in MS doesn't have an answer.

    Hi Susan,
The Poster printing feature is no longer provided by the latest drivers.
However, you may still use the feature by using an Alternative Driver as a workaroud:
Step One: check the active printer port.
Enter Control Panel > Devies and Printers,
Right click the printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
Click the Ports tab and take a note of the selected port for your printer.
    Step Two: Add Alternative Driver:
Enter Control Panel > Devies and Printers,
    Click Add a Printer.
    Click Add a Local Printer.
Leave the Use Existing Port marked, select the port used for your printer from the drop down box, then click Next.
Click the Windows Update button, allow several minutes to complete the update process till the printers list appear again.
Select HP from the Manufactor Colum
Select HP Deskjet 6940 Series / HP Deskjet 6980 Series, then click Next.
Follow the steps to complete the wizard, then perform the print by using the newly configure printer driver which include the required option.

  • Fix header/footer size to print page size

Hi, is there a way to fix the font size of the header/footer to the print page size?
Example, when printing 1 PDF in letter, but the pages are from various sized originals, I want all the headers and footers to be the same size on the final letter size printed document. Currently the header and footer changes to the original page size.
    HELP?????

CR doesn't have an option to print just one part of the page. Your only option is to hide all parts you don't want to print first.
Also, you should post your question to the Legacy Developer forum. I'll move it there for you.

  • How can I use the print module to print different size images on one large "canvas"?

How can I use the print module to print different size images on one large "canvas"? An example would be in Photoshop, go to file>new, and create the size paper I want, and move images of different sizes onto it.
I was thinking the print module would do this automatically for me.

You can't, at present. It's been a requested feature, so we'll see if it shows up in a future version, but it's not there at present.

  • How to allow domain users to customize  Adobe PDF  printer page size in Printer Preferences

    Hi
I am able to customize  Adobe PDF  printer page size in Printer Preferences in admin login but not able to customize  Adobe PDF  printer page size in domian users login...
can I have a solution to customize  Adobe PDF  printer page size in domin user login

WOW! I was amazed to see that within minutes of posting my initial thread, I tried something that works.
Apparently, the only way is will actually convert is if you select the regular Print option in the File tab. Then, change the Printer to Adobe PDF & the Paper Size to 11x17. It also worked for 36"x48" becuase I created a custom size named "Poster", so I changed the paper size to Poster & it worked!
I hope this helps someone. I searched for an existing forum on this issue off & on for MONTHS before creating this thread. If anyone has any suggestions why the Adobe PDF tab /PDF Maker wouldn't work, I'd like to know.

  • HP Officejet Pro L7590, can't print legal size

I am trying to print legal size documents from Open Office (can't) and from GIMP, (can't) on my MacBook Pro, OSx (10.6). I have changed page format to legal, changed default page size for printer to legal, changed page setup everywhere I can find a place to change it, and still, it will only print letter size. What is going on? (Open Office 3.21, GIMP 2.6). I have reinstalled printer driver twice, and all updates that I can find.

Hey there. Have you changed the destination paper size to legal inside the paper handling menu? Here is what I mean:
    1. Open Printer menu
    2. Select the Paper Handling option
    3. Check Scale to fit paper size, also use the drop down "Destination Paper Size" to choose legal.
Let me know if this helps at all

  • Print Different Size Photo, one per page

I am using PS5 in 64 bit mode.  I print on a Epson 3880 printer.  I shoot all photos in RAW.  I process all my RAW files in ACR accomplishing 80% of changes and the balance 20% in PS.  The output of my retouch is a Master Image (MI) File that I would like to print at different sizes.  I am starting to sell my images at Art Shops and Hops.  My customers would like to have different size images of my MI's  How do I print from the MI, different sizes images with a 150 - 300 ppi and maintain the integrity of the MI?
I have tried the Image Tool but it will not let me print the image sizes that my customers want.  The Image Tool only allows me to change one dimension either (H) or (W) but not both.  Help.
    Jack

If you want to print standard size images like 16x20, 8x10, 5x7, 4x6 etc these have different aspect ratios you will need to crop you image to the correct aspect ratio for the print you want or you could print different print sizes that have the same aspect ratio.  Like you camera most likely has a 3:2 aspect ratio if you use a DSLR. You could print all 3:2 aspect ratios image on you 3800. 3x2, 6x4, 9x6,12x8 15x10, 18x12, 21x14,  24x16... all that needs to be changed is the print DPI setting without resampling.    You have a 3800 that can print up to 17" wide.    You can print any size you want.  Some image cry out to be cropped.  They look best cropped for image composition is often best as some non standard aspect ratio.

  • Print Different Sizes Images

I use CS5 / 64bit and print on a Epson 3880 printer.  I sell my images at art shows & hops.  I shoot all image in RAW, on a Nikon D80.  I process all images first in CR.  When in CR I do not use the Crop Tool but do use most the other available tools.  I am able to process 80% of images corrections, in CR and the balance in Photoshop CR5.  I sharpen all image with PhotoKit 1.2.  I save all my processed images, in a Master Image (MI) file that can be accessed through Bridge or Photoshop.  The smallest image I sell is a 5x7 and the larges is 17x22.   How do I print different size picture image from the MI and keep resolution between 200 - 300 ppi, one per page to meet the demands for my customers.

  • Print font size too small

When printing in Safari, the print size is tiny, both in email and web sites, smaller than it appears on screen. When using Internet explorer or Firefox it prints the right size. If I go to Safari edit, preferences, then appearance, and raise font size, it will print larger, but all font sizes on web pages are way big. How can I just increase the print font size. My IP is Comcast. OS is Win XP sp3.

It should print the same size. Click View -> "Make text bigger" before printing.
