Question re: Deauthorizing

Hi -
I have a question regarding the impact of deauthorizing Macs on a previous iTunes account.
My son is on his own now and has his own iTunes account, but when he was younger and lived at home, he used my iTunes account to make purchases from the iTunes Store. I recently noticed that I have the maximum number of authorized computers (5), and I know that at least 3 of those are Macs that I got rid of long ago.
I am considering the option of deauthorizing all my Macs, then reauthorizing only the ones I use to make purchases from iTunes, but I'm concerned about the impact that might have on my son's ability to listen to some of his purchased music. Once I deauthorize the Macs (which include his current MacBook) he will be unable to hear those purchased songs. And I'm concerned that he may have problems reauthorizing his MacBook because he now has his own account, with a different user name and password from mine.
Does anyone have any information or ideas that would help me resolve this? Thanks in advance for everyone's help.
Shelly

He should have no problem reauthorizing his computer to your iTunes Store account as long as he has your account ID and password, or (perhaps a better option) you have him bring over his MacBook and you do the authorization for him.
A tip for the future: be sure you remember to and that you log out of the iTunes Store account and deauthorize any Mac you plan to get rid of before disposing of it. It'll save you a lot of headache as well as reducing the possibility that someone could use your account.
Regards.

  • Possible to reset authorization limit?

Would one of you be kind enough to help a geezer? I'm flummoxed by this "authorization / deauthorization" business.
I know that you're supposed to deauthorize iTunes before getting a new computer. However, I've never had the opportunity to do this because every one of my laptops died suddenly and without warning.
This past week I had to send my laptop to Dell for repairs. When I got the laptop back, iTunes wouldn't synch with my iPod until I reauthorized the laptop. So I reauthorized.
Afterwards, iTunes spit up a message saying that I was now authorized on FOUR out of a permissable FIVE computers. Mind you, I've never owned more than one laptop at a time, and since all my other authorized laptops are dead and gone, there's no question of deauthorizing them.
    So my question is:
With only one authorization left before iTunes stops authorizing, is there a way to reset iTunes so that I can continue authorizing beyond my five-computer lifetime limit? What if I live to be 80? That's four more laptops!
    Thanks kindly for your help.

After digging through the forums, I found this link:

Sounds like I can "deathorize all computers associated with my Apple ID," thereby resetting my authorization limit.
Will give it a shot, and come back if I have any problems.
    Thanks anyway!

  • Home sharing on iTunes 9.0 question

I've tried searching for an answer to this and either no one has addressed it or I'm just blind. I know that two computers have to be authorized on a single iTunes account to enable home sharing and that you can copy music from the second computer (which has either been purchased from the iTunes store or ripped from CD) over to the first computer. My question though is what will happen to those copied songs, if the computer where they originated is DEAUTHORIZED? Will the songs no longer be playable?
I'm concerned about this because I've had to swap between hard drives (lap top and desk top) lately and I'm currently using a lap top as my sole computer which is where I keep all my music. I had to get a new hard drive once and also reformat the new one several months later. To transfer my music back and forth I just copied my music folder over to an external hard drive and back again once the new hard drive was ready. The result on my iTunes and music was that many songs were somehow duplicated, every other song wasn't able to be located, songs were lost, some songs that I though I deleted showed back up, etc. After hours and hours though I've fixed all the music and I am once again in harmony, for now. I will be switching back to a desk top (for good) in about a year and I'm afraid of repeating this nonsense again.
I was hoping that I could set up iTunes on the desktop (which will have nothing on it) and authorize it in iTunes, then activate home sharing, then copy the entire library over to the new desk top. This "should" copy all of my music that I REALLY want to the new desk top, and finally keeping all of my music nice and neet. But again, what will happen to the music on the new desk top if I deauthorize the original laptop?

From iTunes Menu Advanced select -> Turn Off Homesharing
    Repeat that an every computer
The Turn On Homesharing again - Use the same ID/PW that you use / have used for purchasing songs on every computer

  • Deauthorizing iTunes on a computer?  My laptop won't let me connect my iPhone because it says I'm authorized on too many computers, but when I try to de-authorize another computer I use it won't let me.  What's up?

Deauthorizing iTunes on a computer?  My laptop won't let me connect my iPhone because it says I'm authorized on too many computers, but when I try to de-authorize another computer I use it won't let me.  What's up?

What do you mean it won't let you?  What exactly does it say? (Sorry to sound so exasperated but this is like the 6th post in a row where people have made vague statements which do little to help us find solutions without a game of 20 questions.)  I'm going to guess and say you can only deauthorize a computer to which you have physical access or VPN login.  The alternative is to deauthorize all which you can only do once a year.

  • A lot of questions but few answers.  That is a fact.

A lot of questions and few answers.  That is a fact.  My question is about deregistering a kaputt PC, and synchronizing iPod and iPod with a replacement PC w/o losing content.  I had a Toshiba with tummy trouble sychronized with and iPod and an iPad.  I bought content on all three and added content from CDs I already had.  They synchronized fine.  I deleted iTunes on the troubled Toshiba and installed it on a new Gateway.  The Gateway has far less content on iTunes and threatens to delete content from the iPod or iPad if I synchronize.  All I want to do is get all the shtuff together again on at least the Gateway and the iPod, preferably the iPad also.  Also, how to deregister the kranky Toshiba given that iTunes is deleted on it.  Why am I appealing to someone out there with time on their hands.  Doesnt Apple employ people for that?  If not, its high time they did.

Apple does employ people to help with technical problems. They're called Apple Technical Support, available by phone (use the Contact Us link at the lower-right of any Apple web page), and Geniuses, available at any Apple Store.
As to your questions, I'm not completely clear on where you have what content, but if it's all on your iPod or iPad, then you can transfer the content back into iTunes (a subject which, by the way, has been covered here many times already). For content purchased from the iTunes Store, see this support article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
For content not purchased from the iTunes Store, check out this post from Zevoneer for some iPod/iPhone media recovery options:

As to your question about "deregistering", I presume you're referring to authorization to the iTunes Store. It would have been best to have deauthorized the Toshiba before you uninstalled iTunes. You cannot yourself deauthorize a computer that's not working or to which you no longer have access. You can authorize a total of up to five systems, so it's probably not really important that you deauthorize your dead unit now. Once you reach five total authorizations, a button will appear in your iTunes Store account that will allow you to deauthorize all your systems, so that would at that time recover the now-useless authorization.

  • Question about Ipad authorizations

I am having trouble with my Ipad on a new hard drive, and am trying to troubleshoot it.  My question is this: Suppose I have 4 authorizations on my Ipad already (I know the limit is 5  and then I have to wipe them all out).  If I deauthorize 1 of those 4, does the count go down to 3, or does it stay at 4?
The reason I ask is, I still have one working computer that will sync my Ipad.  I am thinking of deauthorizing this new computer, uninstalling ITunes, and trying again, to fix my problem.
BTW my problem has been asked in another thread, and has not been solved in that thread or similar threads.  It's the "grayed out apps" problem, and I see a lot of people get in this situation.

The 5 authorisation limit is for your iTunes account on computer(s) (not the iPad) - if you de-authorise your computer then it will go down to 3, and you can then re-authorise it. (Also the 'de-authorise all' can only be done once every 12 months.)
If your apps are greyed out on the Apps tab, then on the iPad is Settings > General > Restrictions > Installing Apps set 'off'

  • HT1933 new computer authorized asking security questions have 25.00 ready to buy now!!!!

I have deauthorized newer PC and authorized $25.00 can't buy online via store asking security questions tried twice locks out>>>>>

You will be asked 2 of your security questions the first time that you try to buy something on a new computer or deive. If you don't know their answers and you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address then see if the instructions on this user tip helps : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551

i want to deauthorized my account but it says "you may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers, or if you have used this option within the last 12 months. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact the iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww/). ..." please deauthorzed my account. [email protected]

    What is your question?
Not sure at all what you are asking.
You are not addressing Apple here at all.  We are iphone users just like you.
It may not be wise to leave your e-mail address/account name on a public forum.

  • I need to deauthorize the original computer that home share was created on.  Will I lose everything by deauthorizing the original computer from which home sharing was created?

My home share was created on my original computer which we wish to disconnect. Can I deauthorize this original computer without losing everything? I am not all that savy with this and don't really understand where the home share is actually stored.

    Hey tswer,
Thanks for the question. Home Sharing allows you to share music between multiple computers if you continue to use both, but it doesn't create a lasting backup. Considering that you wish to discontinue use of the original computer, it'll be best to transfer your iTunes library to the new computer via an external drive. For information on doing so, please see this article:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
(For best results, you may want to use the external drive section of the above resource)
As far as deauthorizing the original computer, see the following:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization

    Thanks,

  • How do I get a computer deauthorized if I do not have the computer anymore?

I originally had iTunes installed on my laptop. It was authorized and all was right in the world. Then, my laptop was destroyed in a accident.
No problem, I got a replacement laptop and authorized it. I was able to my tune (I had them backed up to disk) and all was again right in the world...until it was stolen...
Now I have iTune installed on my new laptop (and yes it is locked down and with LoJack) AND on my desktop at home.
Question: I have four computers authorized, but no longer own two of them. How can I get them deauthorized?

  • Deauthorized computers that i don't have

Hello, ,my question is how can I deauthorized a computer that is not available anymore.
My Pc got viruses three times already and i couldn't deauthorized the computer before my husband got it reset, so now it looks like i have 5 computers authorized, but i actually only have 2 where i play the music, is there a way that i can get the other three deauthorized??

It's a bit hard deauthorising computers when you've reinstalled windows on that computer and it doesnt exist anymore then when you click the 'deauthorise all' button it says you cant as you have to wait a few more months as its only allowed once a year.
Do you really wonder why people hate apple?
drop the once a year thing and it might seem reasonable.
I have an iPhone I cant sync for this exact reason.
I will be looking elseware to sync the iphone to the PC now as itunes refuses. I will also make sure its jailbreaked coz you refuse to let me use MY iphone on MY computer.

  • Three KT4VL Questions

Does it overclock the 2500+ (333) well?
Will it run two sticks of pc3200 (running at 333) at fastest timings as well as it does one?
Does it like the ATI 9800 Pro?

On the Acer the purchased music is automatically added to the 'Purchased' playlist, is there anyway that I can do this on my Mac using a smart playlist?
Set up your smart playlist for "kind" = "Protected AAC audio file"
The second problem is that I bought four songs and accidently wiped them off my Acer without backing them up and transferring them to my MacBook Pro, is there anyway that I can redownload them without having to pay for them a second time?
Sorry, but officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased tracks. It's your responsibility to make backup copies in case something goes wrong with your system, as unfortunately it apparently did in your case, and you lose all the information on your hard drive. If you haven't made a backup, and don't have your tracks on an iPod, you're probably out of luck and will need to repurchase your tracks.
You can try contacting iTunes Music Store Customer Service and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis, but don't count on it.
Lastly, I wiped my old computer before I deauthorized it to give to my brother. Can I deauthorize it so that I can authorize another computer?
You cannot yourself deauthorize a computer that's not working or to which you no longer have access. You can authorize a total of up to five systems, so it's probably not really important that you deauthorize your dead unit now unless you've hit five. Once your reach five total authorizations, a button will appear in your iTunes Music Store account that will allow you to deauthorize all your systems.
BTW, all of these questions have been answered in these forums already (most several times), so next time, try a Search and you may not have to wait for a reply.
    Regards.

  • Questions on Print Quote report

    Hi,
I'm fairly new to Oracle Quoting and trying to get familiar with it. I have a few questions and would appreciate if anyone answers them
    1) We have a requirement to customize the Print Quote report. I searched these forums and found that this report can be defined either as a XML Publisher report or an Oracle Reports report depending on a profile option. Can you please let me know what the name of the profile option is?
    2) When I select the 'Print Quote' option from the Actions drop down in the quoting page and click Submit I get the report printed and see the following URL in my browser.

Does it mean that the profile in our case is set to call the rdf since it has reference to ASOPQTEL.rdf in the above url?
    3) When you click on submit button do we have something like this in the jsp code: On click call ASOPQTEL.rdf. Is the report called using a concurrent program? I want to know how the report is getting invoked?
    4) If we want to customize the jsp pages can you please let me know the steps involved in making the customizations and testing them.
    Thanks and Appreciate your patience

  • Satellite P300D-10v - Question about warranty

    HI EVERYBODY
I have these overheating problems with my laptop Satellite P300D-10v.
I did everything I could do to fix it without any success..
I get the latest update of the bios from Toshiba. I cleaned my lap with compressed air first and then disassembled it all and cleaned it better.(it was really clean insight though...)
BUT unfortunately the problem still exists...
So i made a research on the internet and I found out that most of Toshiba owners have the same exactly problem with their laptop.
Well i guess this is a Toshiba bug for many years now.
Its a really nice lap, cool sound (the best in laptop ever) BUT......
So I wanted to make a question. As i am still under warranty, can i return this laptop and get my money back or change it with a different one????
If any body knows PLS let me know.
    chears
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
I have already found you other threads.
    Regarding the warranty question;
If there is something wrong with the hardware then the ASP in your country should be able to help you.
The warranty should cover every reparation or replacement.
But I read that you have disasembled the laptop at your own hand... hmmm if you have disasembled the notebook then your warrany is not valid anymore :(
I think this should be clear for you that you can lose the warrany if you disasemble the laptop!
By the way: you have to speak with the notebook dealer where you have purchased this notebook if you want to return the notebook
The Toshiba ASP can repair and fix the notebook but you will not get money from ASP.
