Question re optimize/cleanup/compress in Standard

Hello,
I have Acrobat 9 pro on one computer, and Acrobat 9 standard on another.  When scanning, some combination of settings (I can't figure out why) is causing automatic compression.  In pro, I just go into cleanup and make sure the entire document is not being compressed.  I am trying to find a similar setting in Standard.  Any ideas?
thanks

Hello,
When scanning to PDF using Acrobat Pro there is a configuration dialog that can be edited by the user.
I do not know if Acrobat Standard has this.
With Acrobat Pro -
File > Create PDF > From Scanner > Configure Presets
In the Configure Presets dialog you can edit the value for a number of parameters.
Select scanner, preset for documents (B/W | Grayscale | Color) or color images, input parameters (color mode, resolution, etc.), run OCR (and select one of the three available OCR modes) as well as configure for upfront optimization of the image.
Optimization parameters such as compression and filtering can be set.
If you do not edit the "Configure Presets" to something you want then the defaults are used.
Another place for user configuration is in the Preferences.
In the Category "Convert to PDF", select TIFF and then click the Edit button.
A dialog appears. In this dialog you can provide values for some parameters.
Again, this is with Professional.
In Standard, look to see what is available from the File menu and in the Preferences.
By providing desired upfront configuration you can significantly reduce post-processing activities.
A good, recent on demand eSeminar on Scanning and OCR that discusses the above is at AUC.

  • Full optimize with Compress DB throws error

    Hi,
We are using SAP BPC 7.0 MS version... We have an SSIS package scheduled every morning for a Full Optimize with Compress DB. For the past few days this package had been failing after running for 2 hours, with the following error message :
    [Error][OSoft.Services.Application.OptimizeManage.OptimizeManageCtrl]
When we tried doing a Full optimize without compress DB or Index defragmentation from the Admin Console, it completes successfully.
But when we try doing a Full Optimize with Compress database checked, it runs for about 2 hours and throws the following error :
An error has occurred during processing
Error Message : Thread was being aborted
After the above process it leaves all the records in the fact table with source column 1.
Can anyone please share your ideas on this issue if you have faced this before and a way to fix this.
We do not have bad or invalid records in the fact table.

    Hi,
Please recheck if you have any calculated members or invalid dimension members.
Calculated members will create such problems.
Please check you have enough free disk space on your server which has Database and Analysis Services.
Please make sure you have enabled 3GB support in Everest Update component, if you have more than 4GB RAM in your Application server.
Please check if you have setup the Analysis Server settings with a minimum recommended value for the
Threadpool \ Query \ MaxThreads parameter.
The recommended value is higher of 10 or (number of Analysis Services Databases + twice the number of processor cores).
If you have 4 dual core processors in your Analysis Services server (8 cores) and 5 Analysis Services DB, then you must set the value as 5+(2*8)=21.
The source column will be updated as zero when the full optimization is complete. It remains as 1 since your full optimization is not completed.
Since it says thread is being aborted, I believe the Analysis Services server settings change might resolve your issue.

  • Question about framerates and compression

A few months back I've been to Nepal, enjoying the people and trekking. I carried my Canon HV20 (1080i-25 fps) in a small backpack and I bought a small Canon IXUS100 fotocamera (with video 720p-30fps) as a backup and carried it on my belt.
Back home I found that over 50% of the footage I shot was done with the little Ixus. It's ease of use made it the camera wich gave me the best footage. Content, not technical quality, but with the help of modern TV technics, it is a decent and solid image.
In FCE I can't edit the footage from these two cameras in one timeline. With any kind of movement the 720p becomes a little jumpy in 1050i timeline, or the 1080i flickers in the 1060i timeline. If someone knows a solution to this it would be nice. At the moment I just rendered the edit in parts according to their source and put them in the right order in a folder on the Western Digital TV-live.
But this is not my question.
Because I really like to work with the little camera but want full HD, I'm looking for a new one. Canon comes with some new Ixus and Powershot cameras that do have 1080p but at 24 fps, and as far as I know, not in a 1080i-50/60 wrapper, like the HV20.
    At last, my questions:
In wich timeline can I edit this 24 fps without getting the side effects mentioned above?
I believe I can't edit AVCHD due to my hardware. Am I right?

Thank you for your responce, Tom. But what I like to know, will converting to 25 or 30 fps leave me with quality problems like the ones mentioned before or will motion be as smooth as the original source?

  • Question about Disc Cleanup?

I recently loaded about 45 songs onto my microphoto. I cannot find them in my player though. I have over 000 songs already and have not had this problem before. The songs are recognized through Windows Explorer, so I know they are on there. Would a disc cleanup help at all and does it do any damage to the songs that are on there already? I have current firmware installed. I think the WMP might have been an older version. Does that make a difference? Thanks for reading and any help you can offer!

    coolguy2420,
Where are the files located folder wise on the player? Also, is there anything "different" about these files?
Cleanup will not damage any files, but if a file is already corrupted it may be removed. But then again, if it is corrupted the unit couldn't play it anyway so you are not really losing anything.

  • Question about WMV audio compression

If you export a WMV and go to the audio tab, you get the option for variable or constant bitrates. I noticed that if you choose constant (CBR), each option has a plain CBR mode or an (A/V) CBR mode. What's the difference between these two?

Thank you for your responce, Tom. But what I like to know, will converting to 25 or 30 fps leave me with quality problems like the ones mentioned before or will motion be as smooth as the original source?

  • First Time Mac User: Question Re: iDVD Drop Zone on Standard Theme

Oh My! I love this program and have spent all day on it. How do I add more than just 6 pictures to the watercolor theme? If I put numerous photo's in one drop zone, it only displays one of the photo's? Frustrated!!!! Observe

Two ways to do this is to make up a series of short slideshows in iPhoto or FotoMagico and drop it into each drop zone. Or you can even use YOUR slideshow in each drop zone by just selecting the autofill button on your menu. You can adjust each "movie" to play from different points and also change the "loop" time for your theme so that it only plays for 30 seconds or so (time it to suit the music).

  • Question about SAP standard functionality related to the GL master record.

    My question is;
Is this a SAP standard functionality to update the description ( long text or short) of a GL account (in master record) in one company code when we change the description of the same GL account in another company code which is assigned to the same chart of account?
For example we have two company codes and both are assigned to the same chart of account and we are changing long text of one GL account in one CoCd. Should it update the long text of the same GL account in other CoCd assigned to the same chart of account? If so, then is this a standard SAP functionality or there is any setting where we can turn this functionality on or off.
Thanks in advance for help n answer.

    Hi
GL accounts control takes place two leval

    2.Comapany code leval
In chart of account leval  Type/Description,Keywoard Translation,Information of Chart of Account of account tabs are controlled ,if u made any changes above tabs that should be applicable to all company codes using same chart of accounts.
u r changing the short text, long text these are controlled by char of accounts leval this should be applicalbe to all company codes, u can't maintain company code leval type and description.

  • How to Edit/Save PDF without Object Stream Compression?

    Hi,
Whenever I am removing/replacing a page in the PDF file, "Object Stream Compression" applied automatically. But in the original PDF there is no "Object Stream Compression" initially.
I can remove this "Object Stream Compression" using the option "PDF OPTIMIZER->Cleanup->Remove->Compression" manually, but I want to remove/replace a page in the PDF file without "Page Has Object Stream Compression".
Preflight Report for the Original PDF
Preflight Report for the Edited PDF (One Page Removed)
Could you advise anyone, how to solve the above mentioned issue?
I hope your favorable response from the Acrobat experts.
    Regards,
    TSR

    Thanks for the reply.
I just want to remind you that I don't use any other workflow to retain/remove the "object stream compression".
My question is "object stream compression" was not present in the original PDF  but after removing a page (Ex: Back cover) "object stream compression" applied automatically. Why?
Note: I am using "Acrobat X pro" to remove a page (Ex: Back cover) from the original PDF and not using any other PDF tools for the above.
Now i hope that you will understand the actual issue.

  • Is data compression all automatic? Or does manual steps occur in HANA Studio

    Hi all,
I'm new to HANA and have been leveraging SCN in a BIG way to answer my questions (thanks everyone for your contributions). This is my first post as I was unable to find an answer to my current question .
I've been reading up on data compression in HANA and I learned that there are different techniques, such as Dictionary, Cluster, and Run-length encoding.
My Question is: Is the compression automatic? Or does it need to be modeled within HANA Studio? Let's use Dictionary Encoding as an example. Are there algorithms in place within HANA that will automatically aggregate values so only distinct values remain? Will the attribute vector  and inverted indexed tables automatically be created?
Just as some background, this is what I am basing my question on:
    http://www.agilityworks.co.uk/our-blog/demystifying-the-column-store-%E2%80%93-viewing-column-store-statistics-in-sap-ha…
    Thank you!
    Kyle

    Hi Justin,
you are right, the compression is related to the delta merge - and therefore, as long as delta merges happen automatically, compression will also happen automatically.
SAP HANA has two compression stages on the column store: the first - and typically dominating one - is the implicit compression obtained from using a data dictionary for all column-store columns.
The second stage is often called "sparse compression" - it offers additional compression on top of the dictionary compression, with several available algorithms. During the "optimize compression" run, the most appropriate compression algorithm is chosen for each column (and some columns may not be sparse-compressed at all, because it would not bring a benefit).
The optimize compression run does not happen with every delta merge. Instead, it will be performed with the first delta merge on a given table, and then only if the data content of the table has changed significantly (typically, if I remember correctly, the system waits until the number of records has doubled. Note that the optimize compression run may _change_ the compression type chosen for a given column. The sparse compression itself will be done with every delta merge, using the algorithms selected in the past optimze compression.
If you have switched off automatic delta merging globally, or if you have disabled automatic delta merging for a given table, there will also be no automatic compression (in the entire system or on the given table). BW on HANA uses the smart merge feature, so that in a standard BW on HANA, automatic compression will happen (with the timing of the delta merge being decided in a cooperation between BW and HANA).
    Best,
    Richard

  • How can I prevent Adobe Acrobat from applying optimizations and compressionsserve on save/save as...

I am generating mailpiece documents as PDF v1.4 from a document composition tool.  I am using Enfocus Pitstop v10 (v10.1.7.27 to be exact) to remove some unneeded water marks from the produced document.
My issue is that I need to PRESERVE the original PDF structure as emitted from my composiiton tool and I'm finding that regardless how I proceed, Adobe Acrobat want to resave the PDF as v1.6 and apply a series of optimizations and compressions which alters the original PDF structure.  The reason I need to preserve the strucure of thePDF is to confirm 508 compliance for the emitted PDF documents.
Note: I've tried various settings in Acrobat Distiller and the Adobe PD printer (thinking they are invoked somewhere inthe backgroud of Acrobat when it goes to save/save as...) but haven't experienced any progress...
Am I chasing a rabbit here (meaning what I want is NOT possible) or am I missing something in my configuration attempts??
    Thanks!

If you need the final PDF to have the requisite well-formed structure tree (that is, compliant with ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1) and thus "accessible" then you need to do the adjustments to your PDF's content streams before establishing that well-formed structure tree.
Note that PDF  versions 1.4 or above can have that well-formed structure tree - put another way PDF version 1.4 or PDF-1 (PDF is the ISO Standard ISO 32000-1) can have the well-formed structure tree. I can 'build' such a PDF that starts as PDF version 1.4 via Acrobat 5, do some additional post-processing with Acrobat XI Pro which, via a Save As puts the PDF into a new "version" and *not* adversely affect content streams / structure tree.  Your post-processing is what is changing the "guts" not the save to a different version.
    Just becaues - an obtw:

  • What kind of compression does Acrobat do when files are combined?

I'm working with some raster print media (specifically PNGs) that I've combined and saved into PDFs for easier printing. The original files are 300dpi scans, lossless compression.
This is the process I follow:
select files to combine in Windows Explorer
right click > Combine supported files in Acrobat
    File size: Default
wait for the new binder to open in Acrobat
Save As > Save as type > Adobe PDF Files (*.pdf)
So it looks like there are two steps where possible compression occurs, 2 (combine) and 5 (save).
2: The "Default" file size button tooltip says all files are kept at their original quality.
5: No information is given on screen as to what kind of compression is done.
The second file type in step 5, Adobe PDF Files, Optimized (*.pdf), gives the option for "Standard" optimization, which compresses images to JPEG and downsizes them to 150dpi. Is this the setting for the first file type as well?

An ordinary save or save as does no additional compression.
