Question re photostream in Aperture

Hi all and i hope this is in the correct place for posting
I use Aperture so brought it to this forum although i have no issue with Aperture my issue is with Photo Stream.
I have been invited to a shared Photo Stream and have been contributing to it without issue.
However the images are now not what the subject matter was meant to be so although i want to keep the "on topic " images i do not want the "off topic " ones.
If I delete the ones i do not want, will that delete them from everyone?
I am not the owner of the Shared Photo Stream nor the owner of the images (except the ones i posted) nor have i commented on any of them.
Any help gratefully received and thank you.

Hello there, Speedbird1.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some clarification on the topic of deleting from a shared Photo Stream:
iCloud: Shared Photo Streams FAQ
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5903
Particularly:
How do I delete photos from a shared stream?
If you are the owner of a shared stream, you can delete photos from the stream in the same way you delete any other photos from your iOS device, Mac, or Windows PC.  The photos will be automatically deleted from the stream on all your devices and the devices of anyone subscribed to the stream. Any photos that were previously saved or downloaded from the shared stream to another location, such as the Camera Roll, will not be deleted from that location. Learn more about deleting shared photos.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
Pedro.

  • Photostream and Aperture

    Hi,
I have an iPhone and therefore want to use Photostream with Aperture. So I went to the Aperture settings and have all selected under the Photostream tag (not sure if the terms are correct, I'm not using an english system). When I take photos with my iPhone, the next time I have WiFi it will upload them to the iCloud. The next time I will open Aperture on my MacBook, it creates a project called Dec 2011 Photostream for example. I also see the photos in the media section (I'm quite sure this is not the correct name... What I mean is the section where you have also the faces and places folder.).
My question here: Will the Dec 2011 Photostream project be deleted after the 30 days or are all the photos in that project fully locally saved on my MacBook? Because I now miss some of the photostream pictures taken in August and September. And I realized I am not quite sure how to import photostream images so that they are not deleted after 30 days (well I thought I know...).
So, to summarize: I'm missing some photos taken with my iPhone, dragged from the Month 2011 Photostream project into another project or renamed that project. So the question arises, what did I make wrong?
I hope my problem is reasonably clear! Thanks for advice!

    Hello DaPhil,
Is your profile up to date? I assume you are running OS 10.7.x Lion, if you are using Photo Stream and iCloud. And what is your Aperture version?
To import your iPhone images from the Photo Stream your settings should be set like above: "Enable Photo Stream" and "Automatic Import". This will create the monthly projects you observerved and it should keep these projects with all the images that were imported, even when after one month and even, after the Photo Stream reaches the "1000 images"  limit. So I think, you have done everything right.
However,  there have been some reports on missing Photo Stream images in this forum and in the "iCloud on my Mac" forum recently, so I would not rely entirely on the Photo Stream right now. I strongly recommend to back up all images imported from iCloud that you want to keep, to a folder outside Aperture to be on the save side, at least until we know for certain if Photo Stream is working reliably.

  • Photostreams from Aperture working with one iPad, not another

I've been created a Photostream in Aperture and while it appears in my iPad 3, it does not appear in my other iPad 2 (model A1219).  I've verfied that Photostream is set to ON, and the software is up to date.  I also notice that in Settings>General>iTunes WiFi Sync, the "Sync Now" button is greyed out, even though my iMac is on, and the wireless network is working fine. Any ideas? I've attached a couple of screen shots of iTunes so you can see what's enabled.

I'm not sure what the difference is between a regular an shared photo stream. Within Aperture, I have a collection of photos. I selected all of them (in this cae, about 60), and clicked the Photostream icon.
When you click the "PhotoStream icon in the Toolbar, you should see this:
Have you used the default "My Photo Stream" or selected to create a new stream? A new stream would be a Shared Photo Stream and not available on IOS 5.1 devices.
Otherwise I am running out of ideas, sorry.

  • Setting up Photostream in Aperture

I have already set up iCloud to work with my iPhone and iPad. On these, it works perfectly. However, I wanted also to load iPhone photos to my iMac and see them in Aperture, via the Photostream option.
My problem is that the system seems stuck in a rather unhelpful loop. When I try to turn on Photostream in Aperture's preferences, I get a screen telling me I need to migrate my account to iCloud and be signed in to my iCloud account in System Preferences. But I have already done that, and I am already signed in. Signing out and back in again, restarting all my IOS devices etc makes no difference. Every time I try to go in and turn on Photostream in Aperture, I am asked to migrate my account and reminded that I need to sign in to iCloud before I can open Photostream.
Any suggestions, please? Everything else I want to work under iCloud already works perfectly, but Apertur seems unable to recognise that I am already signed in, and is therefore not turning Photostream on.
    Thanks.
    Tom

I just export it somewhere and then drag that picture to the well in system preferences.
I suspect you can't just do it from within Aperture... the system probably wants a JPEG or TIFF file and not a RAW file, but I"m guessing here I admit.

  • Keeping Photos in Photostream in Aperture When Photostream is full

    Hi folks,
I've searched around and can't find an answer to this: I've got Photostream set up to sync with Aperture from my phone. At some point several thousand photos in, Photostream is going to start deleting the old photos and replacing them with new ones, as I reach my per user cap. My question is, how does this effect the local copies in Aperture? I've seen advice that if you need to delete your whole photostream, you must move the photos to a new project first in order to retain them. Does anyone know if this is the case as Photostream starts doing it's own rolling deletions as well?
    Thanks!

Thanks so much for the reply.  I was actually looking at the TUAW article earlier, though it doesn't seem to help my situation.
You are right -- my experience is definitely happening opposite from all the documented materials.  I have "Automatically Import" selected, and they seem to be downloading locally -- from everything I can tell, they are stored locally in the library.  But once they get bumped out of the 1000-limit queue, they are somehow yanked/disappearing from the library itself.
I've actually never enabled "Automatically Upload to Photostream", since I was already having any DSLR photos uploaded through my iPad...
I even tried to create a new library to see if that would correct the issue, but the same thing happened.  It's extremely frustrating.
I posted a note over at Aperture Expert earlier with the hopes that someone has had the same issue.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • Photostream in Aperture not working correctly

I have turned on Photostream on my Mac and in Aperture. Photos taken with my iPhone appear in my photo stream, and also in the photo stream in Aperture.
However, photos I import into Aperture from my camera do NOT appear in photo stream. Also, even if I drag and drop photos in Aperture into the Photo Steam folder thing, I get the "updating photo stream" status bar message in Aperture, but the photos never appear.
    This is driving me crazy.

I have the EXACT same problem...All worked well for months.  A few days ago the problem started in the middle of an import in Aperture.  Half the pics got through, made it to the folder and streamed to my other devices before it stopped working...and now it won't work at all.  Since its working the other way (when a pic is taken from my iO5 devices they appear in the Aperture Photostream folder) it makes me think this is an Aperture problem.
Curious if you've figured anthing out...I may reset photostream to see if that works but I don't want to lose my handy photostream file with 1000 pics on it.

  • I have been having troubles with photostream in aperture

first i can't use it with aperture, it has been saying that it cannot access my information and that i have to check my login status even though i am logged in and review the information still it keeps sayingand as you can see in this images i'm logged into my account even though it keeps telling me to review my status i don't know where else i can review my status or log information so anything would be awesome, if there is something kind of troubleshoot for icloud photostream or is this just me having this problem and one more thing photostream is aperently not affected on iphoto but i don't use iphoto nor i don't want to use it for photostream is there something i am missing because when i go into the preferences menu it doesn't allow me to check into that box even though i grey it out in the iphoto menu.
anything would be helpful i kinda have this OC syndrome going on and this thing really bugs me lol
    Thanks

    See: iCloud: Photo Stream Troubleshooting
Your screenshots do not show, if you also edited the settings behind the "options" button  in the "System Preferences > iCloud" panel. Did you activate "My Photo Stream" in the PhotoStream options? Make sure that both the My Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams checkboxes are selected.
And is your network active, while you are trying to connect to the Photo Stream?
BTW: Your screenshot shows your Apple ID email account. That is not safe.
Did the Photo Stream images download to your Mac? You can view all your Photo Stream images in your User Library: The images are stored in the subfolders of
    ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/
As you probably know, the User Library is hidden since Mac OS X Lion.
You can reveal it from the Finder's "Go" menu in the main menu bar:
    Finder > Go
Then hold down to options-key ⌥, until Library appears in the drop-down menu. Select it and open the Library, then navigate to the "Application Support" subfolder, then "iLifeAssetManagement", then "Assets".
If all fails, copy and save all images you find there, then delete this folder, log off and log on, then try again.

  • How to Photostream in Aperture?

    Hi guys,
All 3 boxes are checked in Preferences>Photostream, the curved arrow in Photostream keeps going around in Inspector, but no monthly projects are created with images in them, and none of the new images downloaded to my MBook Pro, while I'm on the road, are showing up in Photostream.
All the ones that are in Aperture on my iMac at home are there though. I left my iMac on while I'm gone to make sure Photostream will make them available there as well.
    Thanks a lot,
    Raphael

Show the Inspector HUD, expand the Web section if it is hidden, select "Photo Stream".  Is that not working?

  • Scripting question: how to suppress Aperture dialog when exporting?

    Hi Forum,
I started to write an AppleScript for Aperture to perform a backup. The standard backup procedures of Aperture are not quite right for me so I decided to write my own using AppleScript.
One question which arised was how I can supppress the dialog box which Aperture opens when an export could not be done because of a missing master. I want to suppress the dialog box and instead get an error returned from Aperture into AppleScript. is that possible?
    Koen van Dijken

    Hello Koen,
have you solved your problem by now? For me the following does work:
I does not seem to be possible to set Aperture to suppress the warning, so catching the error in a "try" clause will not help. The best option is to check, if the master image is online, before trying to export and skipping the offline images, like in this example,  see: http:/dreschler-fischer.de/scripts/ExportMastersWithoutWarning.scpt.zip
    on run {}
-- export masters, but check it they are online before trying to export
      -- skip if not online
set exportFolder to (choose folder with prompt "Choose an export folder")
              tell application "Aperture"
                        set imageSel to (get selection)
                        if imageSel is {} then
                                  error "Please select an image."
                        else
repeat with i from 1 to count of imageSel
                                            try
set onlne to get online of (item i of imageSel)
if onlne then export {item i of imageSel} naming folders with folder naming policy ¬
                                                                "Project Name" to exportFolder
                                            end try
                                  end repeat
                                  return imageSel
                        end if
              end tell
    end run

  • Several questions for first time Aperture user

    Hello all, first time user here. Downloaded the trial and am thinking about purchasing the full version. I have a few questions here;
    1. If I click buy to get the serial number, after authorizing the program, will the "Trial" word disappear from all the menus and setting? And will the library name changed from Aperture 3 Trial Library automatically to just Aperture 3 Library?
    2. When I start importing photos from camera into A3, will I be able to use iPhoto to view or edit if I delete the original iPhoto library? In short, will iPhoto be able to share the same library when I start using A3?
    3. After importing all existing photos from iPhoto, should and can I delete my iPhoto library?
    4. Will I be able to use and install A3 on both my laptop and iMac at the same time or is it restricted to 1 computer?
    Thanks all.

I don't think it will change the library name, but you should create a new library and import the trial library anyway IMHO
    2. When I start importing photos from camera into A3, will I be able to use iPhoto to view or edit if I delete the original iPhoto library? In short, will iPhoto be able to share the same library when I start using A3?
In short: no, but you can view the images from one library in the other and drag them in if you like.
    3. After importing all existing photos from iPhoto, should and can I delete my iPhoto library?
You can, but wait until you know everything is working right and backed up.
    4. Will I be able to use and install A3 on both my laptop and iMac at the same time or is it restricted to 1 computer?
Yes the EULA allows a desktop and a laptop but not simultaneously. (If they're on the same network, it won't allow you to run them simultaneously.)

  • Question about photostream on multiple devices

I have an iPhone and my son has an iPad. I use icloud to photostream to my PC. I would like him to be able to do that too, but I don't want our pictures all mixed up in the same folder on my PC which is what happened when I set his iPad up to photostream. So I went back in icloud and created another folder location for his pictures, but now his photos won't stream to the PC at all.
Also, the iPad streaming only worked when I logged into icloud using his account. So I assume that means that when I take pictures on my phone, they won't stream because he is logged on. So I logged out and logged back in under my username, but now my photos won't stream. And if I can get the streaming to work again, does this mean I will have to log in and out of icloud all the time if I want to back up both of our pictures to the PC?
Wasn't sure if this should be posted as two separate questions, but any help would be appreciated.

I don't think you can do what you are attempting to do.  Your computer can only sync with a single primary iCloud account.  (I haven't tested this, but I believe this is true even if you created a separate user account for each of you on the shared computer, although you could test this yourself if you want to see if separate user accounts would work.)
Also, photo stream shouldn't be used to back up photos.  You can use photo stream to stream you photos to your computer, but be sure to copy them to another folder for permanent storage.  Otherwise, if you delete a photo from your photo stream, it will also be deleted from the photo stream folder on your computer and you will lose it.  The best way to ensure your photos are backed up is to import them to your computer as outlined here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
To get photo stream working again, you may need to save all the photos in your photo stream download folder to another location, then turn photo stream off on your computer and your devices, then set it up again.

  • Questions on converting to Aperture

I've been a photographer for about 4 years now and I've been accustomed to using Photoshop. Im now on CS4 and I love the layout. You can see some of my work on www.diplightmedia.com.
I've looked at AP before but never took it seriously. Apple says this is the ideal software for photogs and I wanted to know from a professional standpoint, which software is better? PS or AP? Is it a preference thing or is one truly better? Is the conversion over to AP from PS really worth the $199? Looking forward to the responses.

Comparing Aperture and Photoshop is not comparing like with like.
Photoshop is a pixel editor. Best in class, layer based pixel editor.
Aperture is a Digital Asset Manager.
I think SierraDragon explains it best in his post here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10154685&#10154685
I agree that you need both kinds of app. Using Aperture for your Raws means you will use Photoshop a lot less. But there are things that you will need a pixel editor for.

  • Questions from a new Aperture user

    Two questions:
When I imported my old photos, I gave them the version name "Old Photos". Now any project I create, the photos I add to it also are automatically given the version name "Old Photos". While I can change this on a photo by photo basis (who would want to), I can't see to find where to change it on a global basis.
I have found the Sepia toner HUD and it works nicely, however, I can't seem to tone a monochrome any other colour. All colour modifications affect only the ratio of colours that make up the monochrome image and don't tone it. Any way to do this?
    Peter

Thanks Ian, I had seen and tried the Color Monochrome but I hadn't noticed the colour adjustment pane. It was set to Sepia so that is what I thougt I was stuck with. Works like a charm.
You're correct, I did set "Old Photos" version name during the import. I've now set it to "Master File Name" which I assume will allow the camera generated name to show s the master image name.

  • What would you do??    ( Question away from is Aperture pro or not)

A client came and asked to do a slide show for him. He wants to have the highest resolution possible and wants to play it on a 1080p 50 inch LCD TV and have it on DVD. He wants to have transitions some FX and credits. How would you do that and what format would you chose. We tried to export from Iphoto and import in FCP Studio2 for the FX but the quality didn't convince. Any ideas???
    Message was edited by: saba01

just do all the work in FCP or DVD SP
the problem you will run into is that unless they have a HD-DVD player they won't be able to get best quality
try asking on the DVDSP forum

  • Aperture, Preview and Photostream

When I put an image on the photostream using Preview, it shows up in photostream in Preview.
When I put an image on the photostream using Aperture, it shows up in photostream it in Aperture.
But not vice versa, picture put on photostream with Preview are not visible in Aperture, and pictures put on photostream with Aperture are not visible in Preview. Why is this? After all they support the same kind of documents.
    Koen

I put them back but still need your awesome help in getting it to work in my current user account.
Working in a different user account was meant as a test - a basic trouble shooting measure- not as a fix, see: Isolating an issue by using another user account
Your result tells, that Aperture, your hardware, and your system are probably o.k., but some settings, startup items, Aperture plug-ins, preference panes used in your user account may be problematic.
I'd start with trouble shooting the preferences and presets, as described in
    Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics
Remove the file "com.apple.Aperture.plist" from your user library to the Desktop, and if that does not help, remove the presets.
Remember to log off and on, before removing the preferences.
The user preferences are hidden by default; reveal them from the Finder's "Go" menu:
Quit Aperture, if it is running:
Open the user library by using the Finder's "Go > Go to Folder" menu and hold down the options-key, until "Library" appears in the drop down menu. Select it In the widow that will open, scroll down to "Preferences"
From the "Preferences" folder  remove "com.apple.Aperture.plist".
Then try to launch Aperture again.
