Question RE: sleep timer in Ipod touch 3rd generation

I listen to audio books on the ipod and like to set a sleep timer at night. with the Ipod classic, the machine shuts itself off when the timer ends. I am finding out that initially (with the touch) it shuts off but starts up again later on and ends up going all night. Am I doing something wrong? or do I have to actual turn it off manually? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I think you need to set this up in your sync settings for the Touch. Connect it to your computer and click on the "Music" tab, you should see options to sync Genius Mixes or not.

I have an iPod touch, 3rd generation, and when I push the button to put it to sleep, my iPod takes a screen shot.  It's really annoying.  Is this a result from updating to iOS 4.3.3?  Also, my screen is EXTREMELY sensitive—breathe on it and it turns on.

    - Are you also having problems with the Home button?  Maybe it is sticking a little since to take a screen shot you depress the Home and Power/Sleep buttons at the same time.
    - I have not seen your problem discussed here before.
    - I would first try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next would be to restore the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • The screen on my ipod touch 3rd generation will not respond to touch, it will not work at all.

My ipod touch 3rd generation fell off of a chair, it worked ok fow a while then the bottom half of the screen would not work, now the entire screen is not working
I'm not sure what to do.

You can try the following to rule out a software probem:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to  factory defaults/new iPod
If you still have the problem they yu very likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod Touch 3rd generation battery life

I couldn't find an answer to support this question, so I'm putting up a new post. I recently got the new ipod touch 3rd generation (32gb) a few weeks ago. I got the customization so it shipped directly from China. I seem to be having a problem with horrendous battery life and I don't know if it is a bad one or not. I have the BT always turned off and wi-fi most of the time, but I find that my battery drains from fully charged very quickly, especially if I access wifi. My ipod can drop 50% battery life in 20-30 minutes just "surfing" for apps or accessing a safari link from, for example, the kindle app or nytimes app. I am aware that some apps use more power than others, but I'm finding this life thing horrendous. I have the screen set pretty dim, only use the email function "on access" (no 'push' enabled), no auto-sync for nytimes, etc. I don't know what to do as this was as customized engraving iPod and I feel like everyone I know has fine battery life. Any help much appreciated. We have an Apple Store here in town but can they check it out for me? It has the 3.1.2 version software. Thanks!

  • The backlight on my ipod touch 3rd generation will not come on, but everything works perfectly. I even used the advice given on the tech support page, and it still will not come on. HELP ME PLEASE.

The backlight on my ipod touch 3rd generation will not come on, but everything else is working fine I even took the tech support advice by plugging it in and resetting it, but that didn't fix the issue either. I need help.

    If not this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.
    Also heating sometimes works. See:
Why can't I select my wifi settings?
A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Then:
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? See other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod Touch 3rd generation is not turning on and gets really hot when I plug it in but is not charging...

I have an iPod Touch 3rd generation and yesterday I was using it and noticed that it reset to a different time zone and when I dug a little deeper realized that it reset the date to December of 1969. I just went in and changed it all back. I was out of the house all day today and didn't take it with me, when I went to use it, it wouldn't turn on. I assumed it was dead, so I plugged it in and got ready for bed. I realized that the charging screen never appeared and it never made the little noise it does when you plug it in. I picked it up and right near where the charger plugs in, it was very hot. I use it when it'd plugged in from time to time and it is NEVER that hot. I then tried to plug it into the computer where it again didn't do anything and didn't show up as a device that was plugged in on my iTunes. Again, it got very hot very quickly. I am using the cord that came with it and an actual Apple brand wall charger. I don't know what else to do. Some people said to hold the two buttons down for a little bit, but nothing happened on mine. Please help!

Warm is normal, too hot to handle, literally, is not.
If you're concerned, make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check your charger out.

  • IPod Touch 3rd generation not recognized in iTunes

I just recently upgraded my Macbook software to version 10.6.3 because I purchased an iPod shuffle and the newest version of iTunes would not install with my old software. Now my iPod Touch 3rd generation is not being recognized by the newest version of iTunes (10.2). I have already restarted my computer, and shut it down and removed the battery for a minute before starting it up again. None of these things worked. This is the first time I have tried to sync my iPod touch since installing the new software so I am not sure what I need to do.

It sounds like this may be the fix:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3540
(Mac OS X v10.6 or later: iOS device not recognized in iTunes after restart)

  • Reinstalled Itunes for Windows will not recognize ipod touch 3rd generation.

Itunes for Windows and PC will not recognize my ipod touch 3rd generation.  Also it will not fully charge using a brand new apple brand power adapter and cable. I have already uninstalled all Apple software on PC and reinstalled.  I've tried every step suggested by Apple online iPod touch Troubleshooting Assistant.

the best thing i think you could do is go to an apple store or uninstall itunes and reinstall it one more time and see what happens

  • Ipod touch 3rd generation can´t install apps

I have a problem with apple.
I bought a Ipod touch of the 3rd generation and I can´t install any apps the problem is that my ipod said You need ios 6 to install this app.I bought them in 2010.
How can I fix this problem? I have ios 5.1.1.I would be okay that apple update my ipod to the version 8 of ios.
I think that is a case of programmed obsolescence.
I am very angry. I think that bought an ipod with only 5 years of use and then happens this. I find it amazing.

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities
Unfortunately that is the case with any kind of technology. Components get older and new software is designed to take advantage of current day technologies. The iPod touch 3rd generation is 6 years old which is a very long time in the age of technology. This may seem like a cop out answer but this iPod touch just could not handle current day software. Lets put it in perspective. If Apple updated that iPod touch to iOS 8.x then it would not have the power to handle even the simplest of operations. The iPod touch 3rd generation still works with iOS 5.x and allows you to use it as you did 6 years ago. Applications also get updated as well to support the newer technologies and with that they drop support for older hardware. Apps that had versions on the App Store that at some point in time supported your iPod, it will give you the option to install the older version. I am not saying Apple does not have planned obsolescence, what I am saying is that your iPod still functions because it does not use new software.

  • IPod touch 3rd generation crashed while updating, and now it won't turn on, and it wont charge or be recognized in iTunes; it's been like this for 3 days now. Please help,..Thanks!

iPod touch 3rd generation crashed while updating, and now it won't turn on, and it won't charge or be recognized in iTunes because it's completely dead; it's been dead for 3 days now. I've tried pressing home/sleep buttons for reset but nothing works, I've tried using different usb ports to charge it, but nothing seems to work. Please help asap. ...Thanks!(:

After charging the iPod for half an hour, see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

  • Ipod touch 3rd generation is stuck in "waiting for changes to apply" during sync

My iPod touch 3rd generation is stuck at "waiting for changes to apply" during sync.  I have the latest update and the latest version of iTunes downloaded.  Any suggestions for a remedy to this problem?  Thanks!

I went into my desktop PC the to Start/My music/iTunes folder.
In my folder there was nothing called ITunes Library.itl., but I had file called iTunes Library, in the center of it labeled "Lib", so I re-named it to "iTunes Library.itl.backup" Then went to the folder from iTunes" Previous iTunes
Library" and copied and pasted mine was iTunes Library 2011-04-02 right into the iTunes main folder.
Close your iTunes folder and then install the previous ver. 10.3 of the Apple link. I did not reboot PC. Did not use Cc cleaner nor add/Remove. then after 10.3 said finished installing 10.3 I clicked on my iTune Icon and iTune came up, iPod not plugged in yet.
Then I clicked on "let iTune to find all my music and install them", said towards bottom of iTunes.
Why we don't have the answer but iTune will put all your music in but you will have duplicates of the songs, so you will have your work cut out for you, takes time. plus some of my Artwork was missing, but I save that too.
I'm not Responsible for this instructions, this is what worked for me.
I think everything here is in order. Lot of my information came from all of you guys.Thank you. took a lot of reading, and trial and errors 2 1/2 day latter.

  • Ipod Touch, 3rd generation, blue striped screen, then... nothing

I have an ipod touch 3rd generation, version 4.2.1 (I think), model A1288, 8gb.  A month ago it stopped working and wouldn't respond to a reset by pushing the on and home buttons together, and it wasn't recognized by itunes or by my Vista OS laptop.
After sitting for weeks, the battery must have died and I charged it and it turned on and it seemed to work fine for a day.  Then overnight it crashed and died again.  I don't know what caused the crash, it wasn't being used at the time.  When I reset it following the crash, I got the apple logo, but nothing more... and then a black screen.  When I reset it again, I got a purplish, blue laterally striped screen with the apple logo in the middle ...and then it turned black and wouldn't respond.
Since that time, nothing I do will cause it to turn on or respond in any way.  No apple logo, no screen activity of any kind.   When I connect it to itunes, the computer doesn't recognize it and itunes doesn't respond to it.  When I connect my ipad to itunes, it's recognized just fine.  I've never seen this before.  Any ideas on how I should proceed with repairing this?  If I could get it to start up, I could look for updates and uninstall apps to try to eliminate a conflict, but I can't get it to respond at all.  Thanks for any ideas or help you can offer.

    - After charging for at least an hour see if placing the iPod in Recovery mode will allow a restore.

  • Can I use the iPod touch 3rd generation with these speakers?

I wanna buy some speakers. But now I feel a bit uneasy. My question:
    Can I use the iPos touch 3rd generation ( http://store.apple.com/ch-de/browse/home/shopipod/family/ipodtouch 32 GB ) with these speakers ( http://store.apple.com/ch-de/product/TR142ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA1NA&mco=MTE0MDM5Mzg ) ?
I know that only first & 2 Generation is. But if I want to buy cool speakers, which should I buy then?
    Thanks for help
(and sorry for my english, I'm swiss xD)

    You cannot.
You would have to buy a new one.
Apple will gie you a 10% discount on a new ipod if you bring in an old one for recycling.

  • IPod Touch 3rd Generation stuck in recovery mode

My daughter got an iPod Touch 3rd Generation for Christmas which was on version 3.1.1. iTunes told us an update to 3.1.2 was available and would we like to update it, we selected yes. The update downloaded and then the iPod wouldn't restore and is stuck in recovery mode with the iTunes symbol and the USB on the screen and giving us an error message 1604. We have tried different ways to get it to restore but it wants to update it to 3.1.2 which apparently has a problem with it. How can we get it to restore back to 3.1.1?

I had the same problem yesterday. I tried restoring countless times, reinstalling iTunes... teh whole nine yards. I eventually called Apple, they didn't know what was wrong with it either.
Unfortunately, its the Touch, not iTunes... you are going to have to return it to where you bought it, and exchange it for a new one. Call Apple, and they will give you a number to give to the store. Alternately, you can go to an Apple store, if you bought it at a retailer (Best Buy, Walmart, ect.) and see what they can do.
    Best of luck! ~*~
