Question re: transferring music from computer (iTunes) to iPod

This is going to make me sound like an idiot but I'm having problems transferring music that I purchased on iTunes (on my laptopy) to my iPod. It shows all the music in my "purchased" file but when I try to drag it to the iPod or a playlist on the iPod, nothing happens. I don't download music often but nothing I've tried is working...I'm sure this is an easy fix. I have the settings on "manual transfer" because when I had it on "automatic transfer" it previously erased everything on my iPod that I didn't also have in my library. Suggestions for this silly question?

Do a "search" from the main menu. This topic has been discussed ad nauseum. In the future, bear in mind that the computer IS the backup for the iPod and the computer itself should also be backed up to another medium.

  • Transfering music from different itunes accounts with different ids...

I am trying to transfer music from one itunes account, set up on old computer to a new itunes account set up on new computer. The problem is it is two different ids.  How can I transfer all of my older music to this new account?

You cannot transfer music from one acount to another.
However you can authorise the 2nd computer to play the other id music
Ctrl B to show top menu
    Store > Authorise this computer...
Then you can copy the music over to your itunes and it will play on your machine

How to transfer music from Ipad 1 to Ipod shuffle?

    Hey there jenallyn,
It sounds like you have music in your iPad that you want to get to your iPod Shuffle. You can transfer your iTunes Store purchases to your computer with this article first:

Then when the music is in your iTunes library, use this article to sync your Music to your iPod Shuffle:

  • Transfering Music From a 1st Generation iPod to a New iPod

I just purchased a new iPod and I have a first generation iPod. Is there a way I can transfer the music from my first generation iPod without having to copy every CD onto the new one? Thanks.

The iPod isn't designed for device to device copy but you can transfer the songs on the old iPod back to iTunes and update your new one from there. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Question re: transfering music from work to home computer

hello! My itunes at work has roughly 3500 songs on it and I have all those songs on my ipod. My husband wants to use my ipod while he works out and i wanted to create a playlist just for him (for the songs that he wants, so he doesnt have to hear my "country crap" as he calls it- lol)- anyway because all my songs are at work and there are at least 3500 songs he doesnt want to go through each song on my ipod, and write down all the songs he wants in his playlist. soooo-- is there a way to put the songs on our home computer too- so i can create the playlist and he can just listen to each song or pick the songs he knows add them to his playlist and be done with it? it can potentially be a one time thing since once he has gone through the bulk of the songs and he has his playlist started it will be easier to add since it most likely will be a cd or two- and not 3000 plus songs to go through. Hope I make sense.
    thanks!!
    lisa

You could move the songs from your iPod to your computer using an option like one of these...
    YamiPod
    MacMuse: Computer Crashed
You also can search the Discussions and the Internet (via Google) for more options.
That would be the easiest option.
If you want to move the songs from computer to computer (without your iPod), see this...

  • Transferring music from another itunes account to my new ipod classic

Hi, first time posting. I have recently got an iPod classic for xmas and have transferred all my music off my laptop onto the device. However I am having issues trying to put another 5000 tracks off another laptop owned by someone else in my household onto it. They have their own itunes account and an ipod touch, initially we hoped I could use the ipod touch to transfer the music files to my itunes and then onto my ipod, however it is apparently clear that without paying for a programme this is not possible. So is there any way to transfer all the tracks by attaching my ipod to their laptop and downloading directly from their itunes.
    Any help would be appreciated!
PS. I believe I can use a USB stick to transfer from one laptop to another, or simply use his entire cd collection and install one at a time however both these methods for the size of the collection would take a long time which is not ideal as rarely in at the same time.

No matter how you ask the question, or how many times, the answer will always be no. Itunes content is DRM protected & tied forever to the account that was used to originally purchase it.

  • Transferring music from new itunes to iphone.

How do i transfer music from a new itunes to my iphone??
*i dont mind deleting my old songs

If you don't mind losing the music currently on your iphone then plug it in and sync it.
    Is it a new/different computer?
If so, make sure you have at least one contact and calendar entry in the computer so that you will get the option to merge that data when you first sync.

  • Transfering music from new iMac to iPod without losing songs on ipod

    Hello,
I've just finised uploading all my CD's onto my new iMac. I now wish to download the contents of the iMac's iTunes library onto my iPod (click wheel but not video) without losing the songs that are already on the iPod. The iPod was originally synced to a Windows PC which was used to download it's existing library. There are a number of songs on my iPod that are not in my new iMac's iTunes library & also a large number of songs that are already on the iPod.
Basically, I want to know how I can download all songs from my iMac's library that are not already on the iPod without losing the songs I have on the iPod that are not in the iMac's iTunes library (Ihope that makes sence).
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Hi Dave!
    Yes, you can do this.
First off, do this to prevent iTunes from automatically syncing your iPod:
    1 - Open iTunes.
2 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
3 - Basically as soon as your iPod begins to display "Do Not Disconnect", begin to press and hold the Option and Command keys on your keyboard together simultaneously.
4 - Continue to hold these keys for about 20 seconds, throughout the time when your iPod is showing up in the Source List in iTunes.
After you've done this, click on your iPod's name in the Source List (the Source List is the left panel area of iTunes), and under the "Summary" tab, tick the "Manually manage" option for your iPod. Also, go to the “Music” tab, and ensure that the “Sync” option isn’t selected.
Click the “Apply” button in the bottom-right corner to save your changes.
Manually managing the songs on your iPod will allow you to preserve the current content that you have on your iPod, and transfer new content from your iTunes library to your iPod.
When you are connecting your iPod to a computer that is different than what it is normally synced to, you will get a message that says something like: "The contents of the iPod "your iPod's name" is synced to another iTunes library. What would you like to do?"
You will be given a couple of options, and make sure to click on "Cancel", and NOT "Erase and Sync" (or else the current contents of your iPod will be erased, and the iPod will be synced with your iTunes library).
So, after you've saved your iPod's songs from being automatically synced off of it, you can transfer your iPod's music to your compter if you wish.
You can install a third-party program onto your computer that can do this copying.
    Try using Senuti.

  • Transfering music from a Windows formatted ipod to a Mac - is it possible?

I have a bit of an interesting problem. All my life I've used Macs, occasionally a PC, but I definitely prefer Macs. Anyhow, I currently have a PC, temporarially, I will be getting an iBook late Spring this year, and I have two iPods, a 4G formatted for Mac, with all my music on it, and a 5G formatted for Windows that I just got for Christmas.
Now, my question, when I get my iBook, I want to format the new iPod for Mac and put all my music from the 4G onto it. Getting the music off of my old iPod onto my iBook won't be a problem, however I've got quite a bit of stuff on the new iPod that I don't want to get rid of. Is there anyway to connect my new iPod to my PC and hook the PC up to my iBook and transfer the files that way? Burning everything onto a CD isn't an option, my PC is super old and doesn't have a CD burner, it also has less than 1GB of free space, and I have about 4GB of stuff on the new iPod that I want to transfer over.
Any ideas? I know that I can't connect both iPods together on the same computer to transfer files, particularly considering that one would be formatted for a different system....
Hmmm how difficult is it to transfer files from a computer with Windows XP to a computer with OSX anyway?

same thing happened to me. I purchased iPod Access from the internet (for about $15). This program will let you transfer your music and playlists from your iPod to your library

  • Transferring Music from CD's to iPod

    Noob question here:
Can I transfer music directly from a CD to my ipod? Or must I always transfer the music from the CD to the iTunes library and then from the library to the ipod?

You must first transfer it to your iTunes library, then to the iPod.
    Cheers!

  • Transferring Music from MusicMatch Jukebox to Ipod

I can't figure out how to transfer songs from my laptop's MusicMatch Jukebox to my ITunes then my Ipod Mini. It was done once for me by a friend's kid but now I am on my own, so I know it can be done.

Determine in what folder(s) the MusicMatch files reside.
From iTunes: 'File=>Add Folder' and browse to the music location(s)
iTunes will only add those song formats that it supports.
See iPod compatible song formats as a start.
