Question re: using PS Elements 4.0 for Mac instead of 2.0 as external editor for LR 1.1.

I have LR1.1. installed on a Macbook Pro, OS X. I had PS Elements 2.0 installed, but I have now uninstalled it as I plan to get PS Elements 4.0 instead. My LR still lists Elements 2.0 as the default external editor. When I install version 4.0 will it automatically upgrade to that version, or will I have to do/ change something in LR?

You can compress/Stuffit the app, then delete the app, as you'll have it in a zipped format if you want it back.

I now want to back up my wife's MacBook Air using Time Machine on her Mac and want to know if I can use the same WD external drive or if I need to get a 2nd back up drive? If I can use one external drive for the two Macs do I need to do something special on the drive or will Time Machine do it automatically?

Yes. You will need to configure Time Machine preferences on each computer to backup to the same drive. Note that you cannot connect the backup drive to both machines at the same time.

If a plug-in is installed, IE includes an option under the advanced tab, similar to this: "use Java 1.4.1_02 for [applet]"
Im trying to understand exactly what this is. Sorry if what I'm saying is obvious... If your HTML has the [applet] tag rather than the [object] tag, IE will use the sun plug-in? If true, and since the [applet] tag does not automatically down load a plug-in, the client would have to have this plug-in already installed?
Is is also true that this advanced option in IE does not have anything to do with an applet using the [OBJECT] tag. If the [object] tag is in the html, then the browser will always use the plug-in regardless of whether the IE option is checked?

New versions of Internet Explorer will automatically grab the Java plugin specified to run applets that are coded on webpages using the <APPLET> tag. The plugin would have had to be pre-installed on the machine - as it will not automatically download the plugin to do this. Only the <Object> tag will do that.
And yes...this only affects the <APPLET> tag. Any OBJECT tags you will encounter that require a specific JDK will still prompt you to download that if you don't have it and will use that version, regardless of whether that advanced option is selected.
You can also do some configuation with newer plugins via the icon located in your Control Panel.
Good luck with applets... just wait until you have to implement one for the Crackintosh. ;-)

Suddenly when I try to drag a file into elements it comes in as a very tiny picture. I do not see the usual elements workspace. I have to use view at print size to see the file. Fixed this problem by reinstalling the program but now it has returned. What to do?

Question on using a different Apple ID for iTunes

I have an established iTunes account that I used to download music, and purchase apps. My question is this: I recently purchased MobileMe. So I now want to use my MobileMe account with iTunes. But what will happen to my current songs, apps, etc, that I have used under my older iTunes account? Do I simply just logout from the older account and then login using the new MobileMe ID? Do I have to delete my apps from my iPhone? I know its kinda general. But any ideas would help. Thanks.

I am having a similar problem. I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4 to a 5S. I set up my new phone with a different Apple ID than the one I used on the old phone. I originally bypassed setting up iCloud and everything worked fine until I upgraded to the 8.0.2 OS. Suddenly, I was being asked for a password to an Apple ID that I don't remember setting up. I am pretty sure that I set up an iCloud account with this ID but have forgotten the password. Also, whenever I go through the process of trying to change the password my birth date is not recognized which means according to this ID I don't exist. The Apple ID I set up for the new phone works for the Apple Store and I am able to download upgrades and apps. However, whenever I reboot my phone I am prompted for the password I don't recognize to sign into iCloud. Then, when I hit cancel a message appears saying that "photos for the iCloud account "iCloud" cannot be accessed. Review your account information in Settings." When I press on Settings I receive the prompt again for the password. The ID I don't recognize is an @iCloud.com which suggests I must have tried to set up an iCloud account with a different ID and have forgotten the password.

Using PS Elements 11 on a Mac how can one replicate Finder folders in the Elements Organiser view?

Hi all - I have found the Organiser folder structure quite confusing and it does not seem to replicate the Finder folder structure other than randomly, unlike Bridge in PS for PC which I also use.
I would love to be able to create folders in elements or simply do so in Finder and find them show up in elements Organiser. It seems to me that only once I have saved an image to a folder in the Finder does it show up in the Organiser folder view. Is this correct?
Any suggestions around a sensible workflow or approach here would be most welcome, thanks. Sean

Many thanks Andaleeb - yes I have tried that and it seems only to add to the confusion - folders which in the Finder clearly show all my images are blank in PSE Organiser with the statement that they still have to be imported into PS Organiser. I guess that may be my fault because, due to the problems in locating files in Organiser I right clicked on them in the Finder and said 'open with PSE'. So in effect I bypassed PSE Organiser. But one would still have hoped that the folder hierarchy would be the same in Organiser and the Finder. Very confusing! I have never seen a program deal with folders etc in the way PSE does.

How do I get rid of a shadow using PS Elements 4.0

For the shadows on the baby's body I used the Clone tool with a brush size to capture as large an area as possible on each shoulder, then cloned away. I did this on a new layer so that I could Erase (with a hard brush) any portions of the clone that drifted off the baby's body. I also erased (using a soft brush) the clone off his neck.
For the shadow under his eyes I use the Clone with Mode set to Lighten and Opacity to 35%, and cloned areas just below the shadow.
For other areas of shadow I used the Dodge tool. This takes a lot of trial and error. Experiment with different brush sizes and Range values. In some cases I found that rather than simply "painting" over the shadows I got better results using low Exposure values and incrementally dabbing the shadow; each dab lightens it a bit.
I also used the Clone on other areas that the Dodge tool couldn't fix.
After all is done you can use the Blur tool to smooth out the edges of any cloned areas.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 as external editor

For years, I've used iPhoto. And although I usually edit in iPhoto, sometimes I edit in an external editor, Adobe Photoshop Elements. It's always been easy - rightclick, "edit in external editor", Photoshop Elements opens and the photo is loaded automatically.
Well, since I upgraded to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 (PSE12), when I choose to edit in an external editor, PSE12 opens but my photo doesn't load.
Not a huge deal, but it takes extra time and searching and is, honestly, a little annoying.
Any suggestions?

Other than the previous versions of Elements, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 installs the editor directly at the top-level of the Applications folder, so there are no longer any nested folders to select the editor application from.
But there is a weird glitch, when I try to use it as an external editor in iPhoto.
When I select a photo in iPhoto 9.5.1 and ctrl-click it and use the command "Edit in External Editor" from that panel, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 opens with an empty window, like you reported.
This does not work: Elements launches on an empty window.
But when I use the "Edit" button in the footer of the iPhoto window and double click it, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 will open with the photo in the Editor window.
This does work:
So, for the time being, use the Edit button to launch your external editor, if you are also using iPhoto 9.5.1 with Mavericks 10.9.4.

Photoshop Elements 11 External Editor

I have selected Photoshop Elements 11 as my external editor within Aperture 3. When I select PSE 11, Aperture opens PSE but does not export the picture to PSE. Is there a solution to this issues?

Have you selected the PS Elements Editor and not another file in the PS Elements folder in "Applications"? When you are setting the external editor, make sure you dive into the PS Elements Support folder, where the application is hidden.

Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 and Premiere Elements 13 are standalone products.
So, you can have both on the same computer, but only open one for your work.
The classical recommendation is to finish a project in the version in which it was created since there
is no guarantee that a project from an earlier version will open in the later version. Probably will, but
no guarantees. And, when you do explore this, do it from a copy of the earlier version project. Once you
take the earlier version project into a later version one, you cannot go back to edit the later version edited
project in the earlier version program.
If you have both versions (9 and 13) on the same computer and you have not moved, deleted, renamed any of the version 9's files/folders,
right click the saved closed Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 project file, select Open With, and then Adobe Premiere Elements 13.
(Your 9.0/9.0.1 saved closed project file should be found in Libraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/9.0.)

For Premiere Elements 11 and 12, you cannot change its default project preset from NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080i30 or its PAL counterpart PAL AVCHD Full HD1080i25 to something else.
For each project, you can set the project preset manually if you do not want the program to take over setting the project preset based
on the properties of the first drag to the Timeline.
To set the project preset manually, open the project to the Expert workspace, go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
In the Change Settings area, change the project preset. Before you exit that area, be sure to have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project" in the new project dialog.
Then you import your source media, using the appropriate Add Media choice.

If you want a version of Premiere Elements that uses the default project preset of NTSC DV Standard or its PAL counterpart PAL DV Standard, then you need to look to a version of Premiere Elements earlier than 11.
