Question regarding Business Rule

Hi,
If I updated the business rule by updating any parameter in the Dev environment, do I need to export this business rule into Prod environment or Can I directly change the code in the production environment.
Please advice me on this.
Regards,
Upendra.

John:
Thanks alot for your quick response. And I have very silly question here. I am not sure how to import the file from dev to production.
I checked in the EAS console,there is Export option is there. After saving that rules in xml format, how to import into prod environment. I know, this is a simple question but as I don't know about this, this being a major question for me.
Thanks,
Upendra.

  • Question about Business Rule Naming

    Hi,
    As we know that there is a restriction on number of characters you can enter to name a BR - is there a way that I can have two different names assigned to the same BR in EAS and Planning? Something like an alias? Or if that's something that cant be done then is there a way to make the description show up in the left pane when the Business Rule is associated with the dataform?
    We have rules/scripts that have short names but since the users might not be able to understand them by just looking at those names, was just wondering if we could make it a little simpler for them but either giving it another name (alias) or atleast show up the description?
    Please let me know your thoughts on this.
    ~ Adella

    Hello John,
    The naming restriction on BR is 50 characters. Honestly I didn't try it before until I saw your response and the question you asked me. :)
    I think you pretty much answered my question. Since I can enter upto 50 characters to name a BR I can give longer names which will be easier for the users to understand as well. I just hope that it should not create any other problems.
    I am glad you asked me the question. I always thought that the same restrictions apply on the BR too as with calc scripts.
    Thanks a lot John !

  • Regarding Business Rule Framework

    Hi,
    Could u please explain the process of Business Rule Framework(BRF)
    and how to create this Business Rule Framework(BRF)
    explain with step by step process.

    Hi,
       To have a BRF object, you should have BRF Application Class.
    to do this -
    1. go to tcode - BRFAPL01, create one.
    2. then go to tcode BRF- create object with the same name as Application class.
    3. Now run the program CRM_BRF_COPY_IMPL_CLASSES , and give your brf object name which you created in above steps.
    4. now your BRF object is created with standard implementation classes.
    5. Go to tcode BRF, in All Groups folder, you can now create actions, events, rules using the standard implementation classes.
    6. If you want to create your own implementation classes, go to tcode BRFIMC01 and create new ones.

  • Question regarding the rule of thumb regarding Exchange proc cores ratio to GC proc cores

    Hi all,
    I am studying towards my MSCE Messaging for Exchange 2013 and came across on CBT nuggets a statement regarding a rule of thumb when it comes to processor cores on Exchange 2013 server to GC
    so Greg Shields from CBT nuggets says that the ratio should be
    4:1 on x86 domain controllers
    8:1 on x64 domain controllers.
    So is he talking about 1 mailbox server role with 8 processor cores to 1 processor core on a x64 domain controller? what if there is already a heap of servers using that GC? In our datacentre we have 2 x64 domain controllers but also a whole range of servers
    on that server network.
    Also what if you have 2 mailbox server roles? are we then talking 16 : 2 ?
    Hope someone can help clarify this.
    Regards
    ronnie.jorgensen systems engineer
    My blog

    Does this help explain it better?
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/05/06/ask-the-perf-guy-sizing-exchange-2013-deployments.aspx
    Active Directory sizing remains the same as it was for Exchange 2010. As we gain more experience with production deployments we may adjust this in the future. For Exchange 2013, we recommend deploying a ratio of 1 Active Directory global catalog processor
    core for every 8 Mailbox role processor cores handling active load, assuming 64-bit global catalog servers:
    If we revisit our example scenario, we can easily calculate the required number of GC cores required.
    Assuming that my Active Directory GCs are also deployed on the same server hardware configuration as my CAS & Mailbox role servers in the example scenario with 12 processor cores, then my GC server count would be:
    In order to sustain double failures, we would need to add 2 more GCs to this calculation, which would take us to 7 GC servers for the deployment.
    As a best practice, we recommend sizing memory on the global catalog servers such that the entire NTDS.DIT database file can be contained in RAM. This will provide optimal query performance and a much better end-user experience for Exchange workloads.
    and of course use the latest calculator version to determine your required specs:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/05/14/released-exchange-2013-server-role-requirements-calculator.aspx
    When you calculate required GC cores, the ratio 1:8 applies to the cores required to support active mailboxes ("Mailbox role processor cores handling active load") and not to all cores physically available on Exchange server.
    So, for example, if you have 32 total cores on an Exchange server but only 16 of them are actually needed to support active mailboxes (as determined by the calculator), you will need only 16/8=2 GC cores to support this Exchange server's AD queries.

  • Question regarding business plans for an iphone app

    Hi everyone, please forgive me for possibly posting this in the wrong area.
    I have a couple of questions I'd like to have clarified regarding the service agreements for development of iphone apps.
    I need to approach management at work, with an explanation/answer of how the royalty process works in regards to providing a free application to access a service we charge for.
    If we develop an app, put it on the iphone store for free, but the users need to pay a monthly subscription service to fully use the program (via our website which uses paypay), does Apple take, or want a cut in the tiny profits, from having the program hosted for free in the app store?
    This is the current scenario:
    Clients sign up for a 'lite' type of usage of the site/service. If they want more features, they then use PayPal to update their subscription.
    I guess two questions now... Firstly, can you use PayPal for monthly subscriptions in Apps?
    Secondly, Would Apple want, or be authorised to take a cut on a free app, that is assisting in income for a company.
    Are there 3rd party or custom agreements made? What if the app was charged for in the first place? Would that cover everything, and the rest of the income 'our business only'?
    I hope this isn't too complicated or confusing, but I would like to be pointed in the direction of some good documentation with values and figures to back up the answer.
    Thanks.
    Steve

    Hi Allan,
    I tried called them. The girl I spoke to was hard to understand, and I'm not sure if she understood me correctly anyway.
    She basically said "no" about Apple wanting a cut, however I will wait and see other's thoughts on here.

  • Question regarding Workflow Rule

    Can I set a WF trigger when an attachement or URL is added or updated on record? R17 perhaps?
    Thanks
    PD

    I dont know of a way in R16. Once R17 is available there could be something to allow this.
    Not sure what you are looking for specifically but you can perform an export of attachment once a week and use the exported data to know what attachments were added for the week. Exports allow you to select the object. In this case attachments and the date range. The last week for example. The CSV file of the export would allow you to do some matching up with the record the attachment was added to etc.

  • Business Rule in BPC 5.1

    Dear all,
    I got 2 questions regarding business rule:
    1. There are 2 types of business rule.
    Script-based = You write your own script ( MdX or SQL logic)?
    Table-based = The table is more like a parameter table. You configure the parameters in the business rule tables and use corresponding store procedure in some logic file to trigger the function.
    ex:
    You must setup the currency translation rule table and call SPRUNCONVERSION to execute currency translation function.
    Is this correct?
    2. According to the SAP BPC admin guide, the rule files will be converted to LGL file, is this still the same in BPC 5.1? I can't find any related LGL in the system.
    Best Regards,
    Jeff

    You're mixing termology and functionality.
    Business rules are configured under the application/business rule tab in administration.  They are SQL stored procecures that cannot be modified and are seutp using the business rules tables.  The values in the table are passed into the SP's as parameters.  SPRunConversion is an example of a business rules stored procedure.
    Separately, there is script based logic.  This is setup under the Applicaton/Script Logic tab in administration.  These are calculations that are written by the application administrator (a number of examples are provided) to peform calculations.  There is a script logic example (FXTrans) which perfroms the same process as SPRunConversion.  They are text based files which get "compiled" into executed code.  The file you write to is the LGF file.  This contains the source code along with comments and spacing for readability.  The compiled file has an LGX extension and is a text file which has extra spacing and comments removed and any *INCLUDE statements replaced with the underlying coce.

  • WebForms, Security, Business Rules restore in Planning

    Hello everybody,
    I am working on Hyperion System 9 (shared services, essbase, BI+, planning etc) with Oracle 10g relational repositories.
    I know Planning has 2 command line tools (FormDefUtil.cmd, ExportSecurity.cmd) that allow us to export Planning web data forms and security in txt file.
    My question is: If I don't have the exported files for web forms and security (because my client didn't know about the existence of the 2 tools above and so there is no backup of web form and security) is there another way to restore them?
    Could I use the database backups to restore web forms and security? We do make a backup every night of all Hyperion schemas .
    Same question for Business Rules. My client never made a backup of them (never exported them as .xml), can they be restored from the database's backup?
    If web forms, security, BR can be restored from database, what are the steps to be followed in order to perform such an operation?
    Thank you for you help!
    Daniela

    Hi,
    If there has been a backup of the relational database then you will be able to restore the database from a previous day over the current database.
    You need to stop planning first, restore database, start planning, log in to make sure everything is alright.
    That is the usual way to restore the planning elements.
    The EAS database will follow the same sort of concept.
    Cheers

  • Consolidation Business Rules

    Hi
    Can someone tell me the main purpose for each of the following business rules:
    Account transformation
    Currency conversion rule
    Intercompany booking
    Automatic adjustments
    Automatic adjustments details
    Carry-forward rules
    US Elimination
    Validation rules
    Validation rules details
    Would really appreciate the help. Also, would be great if anyone can send me some document specifically on consolidation rules and methods.
    Thanks
    Mav

    Hi Mav,
    Unfortunately there is no current documentation on Business Rules for 5.1.  The only documentation that is out there is the Admin User Guide, which you can download from SAP.  There is also the Consolidation Engine Referecnce guide for version 4.2 SP3, which goes into more detail regarding business rules.  I can send you a copy of this.  Just send me a note.

  • HI John: Advise for Business Rule or Calc Script

    Hi John,
    I need your Advice regarding Business Rule as earlier i took all ur advice seriously and also succeeded; This is toughest area for me.
    1) Any useful document which help me to understand Business Rule apart from HBR admin pdf ?
    1) Any Blog/Source/PDF/PPT especially for Planning Business Rule ?
    Thanks for any Help.
    Regards
    N Kumar

    Hi,
    Well business rules are really just calc scripts with a few additional features.
    So to understand business rules a good place to start is looking at calc script functions and commands, the essbase technical reference includes details on all this :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_esb_techref/techref.htm
    If you get stuck on calc scripts then the essbase forum is also a good place to ask for advice as there are many experts on there.
    I have not seen many sources for information relating to just business rules.
    Cheers

  • Currency Converion and Business Rule questions

    Hi all,
    I am new to BPC and would appreciate if you can help me answer few of my questions. I was going through how to documents on currency conversion and Business Rules.
    1. The Flow in Currency Conversion and Business Rules different?
    2. Can Currency conversion be done without defining the Currency Rules?
    3. In Business Rules Detail there is a cloumn for Sign. How should one determine what sign should go for a given account?
    Thanks,
    Diksha.

    Venkatesh,
    It seems like you are using Company as your Entity type dimension.
    Try to change your code to look like this
    *RUN_PROGRAM CURR_CONVERSION
         CATEGORY = %CATEGORY_SET%
         SELECT(%CURRENCY_SET_ID%,"[ID]",CURRENCY,"CURRENCY_TYPE='R'")
         TID_RA = %TIME_SET%
         RATEENTITY = GLOBAL
        OTHER = [COMPANY=%COMPANY_SET%]
    *ENDRUN_PROGRAM

  • Asking a question twice owing to a business rule

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement where I have to ask for the new value of a Number attribute in the same interview as soon I have already answered it depending on a business rule.
    e.g. consider the following
    The application form is complete if
    The applicant's age is known
    {The applicant's age is a Number}*(but a hypothetical business rule is: if the age is under 18, ask the question again)*
    i.e.
    Interview 1:
    What is applicant age: *20*
    The application form is completeInterview 2:
    What is applicant age: *15*
    What is applicant age: *13*
    The application form is completeInterview 3:
    What is applicant age: *12*
    What is applicant age: *12*
    The application form is completeIs there a suitable workaround.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

    Idea 1:+ Use a warning rule like:
    Warning("You've stated that your age is under 18.  If this is correct, press the Submit button.") if
    the applicant's age < 18
    This will cause a warning message to appear on the screen, but (unlike an error event) it will allow the user to continue the interview.
    Idea 2:+ Create a second age attribute. If the value of the first age attribute is under 18, ask the second. Of course, this creates a risk of having inconsistent data (like your scenario 2), so you would need additional rules to resolve the inconsistency.
    I'd go with the first approach, personally.

  • Business Rules Security Question

    I have a sequence having 6 business rules. I am providing lunch previlege to a group for that sequence.
    Is that enough for the group to execute the sequence or I have to provide indivdual lunch previlege to each business rule listed in the sequence?

    Hi,
    I would say the group needs access to the business rules as well, if you don't and give just access to the sequence I don't think they would see the sequence.

  • Business Rule question

    Hi
    how can I achieve the following in a business rule.
    I want to copy some data from a cost center to multiple cost centers
    I will have a runtime propmpt for a source cost center and multiple runtime propmpts for multiple cost centers.
    DATACOPY from [source_cost center] TO [Target Cost Center _1];
    DATACOPY from [source_cost center] TO [Target Cost Center _2];
    DATACOPY from [source_cost center] TO [Target Cost Center _3];
    my problem is that i will include per say 5 destination cost center runtime prompts and user wants to use only three destination
    cost centers. how can i incorporate that logic into my business rule.
    will business rule allow no input into a runtime prompt.
    thanks in advance

    Hi Eric,
    i used the following script to copy from one cost center to multiple cost centers.
    Planning system nine allows to have mutliple members. my [EntityDriverTo] is multiple member and my source [EntityDriverFrom] is single member.
    FIX(Year,Jan::Dec,Account,"All_Employees",[EntityDriverTo])
    [Scenario]=[Scenario]->[EntityDriverFrom];
    ENDFIX

  • Business Rule question in Essbase

    Dear Experts,
    I am trying to write the following business rule, I'm new to this and I am not sure how the syntax works, please advice.
    All I want to do is to insert the created Block for "March" into a variable so I can use it to calculate the value for IQ1 in the a different block. It should be a fairly simple procedure but I am very new to this and not sure where it is best to look for guides and use of syntax around business rules. So far I'm struggling to get the first block to work.
    SET CACHE LOW;
    SET UPDATECALC OFF;
    SET CLEARUPDATESTATUS OFF;
    SET LOCKBLOCK HIGH;
    VAR RMAR;
    FIX("FY11","Pln","Local","Customer NA","INDUSTRY NA","SPLIT_RATIO","VENDOR NA")
    MAR =RMAR ;
    ENDFIX /* FIX("FY11","Pln","Local","Customer NA","INDUSTRY NA","SPLIT_RATIO","VENDOR NA") */
    FIX("FY11","Pln","Local","Customer NA","INDUSTRY NA","ORIGINAL","VENDOR NA")
    MAR = IQ1 * MAR ;
    ENDFIX /* FIX("FY11","Pln","Local","Customer NA","INDUSTRY NA","ORIGINAL","VENDOR NA") */
    Many Thanks
    Stephen

    You can use the cross-dim operator (->) to refer to a different block than the one on which you have fixed. So, in your case, all you have to do is use a single fix block and do the following.
    FIX(ORIGINAL, ...)
    MAR = IQ1 * "SPLIT_RATIO"->RMAR ;
    - Francis
