Question regarding Digital Out (COAX) not mini plug on Audigy ZS

Hi.
I have a question regarding the Digital Out and Digital In (COAX/RCA) Inputs I have on the back of my computer and if theres an easy way to hook the digital out with only a regular Digital Coax cable to a Home Theater receiver and get 5./DTS, OR do u have to use the 6 channel/analog (by using 3cables)or using the digital out (miniplug to RCA).
IF not what are these connectors for and what kind of sound streams do these inputs handle.
/Regards

wmadoss,
Do you have the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum or Platinum Pro? The normal Audigy 2 ZS card on it's own does not have any RCA SPDIF output/input, only the dri'vebays do. If you have a Platinum/Platinum Pro set, with an external dri've, then you can connect an RCA to RCA cable directly to that, and then to your receiver.
If you have a standard Audigy 2 ZS card then you will need to use a minijack to RCA (female) adapter first, and then connect the RCA to RCA cable to that.
For music and games it's best to use the three analog outputs.

  • Audigy 2 ZS - Headphones work, Digital Out does not

Just install an Audigy 2 ZS. Bought a miniplug-RCA plug adaptor to connect it to my digital coax cable into my Onkyo receiver. Headphones show that sound it working. Onkyo shows no PCM signal received. I know it works because my last computer used the same amp and same cable. Is there something in the software I'm doing wrong? I'm tried switching the frequency rate, the digital out only, 2 speaker and 4 speaker settings. What am I doing wrong?

    SoonerFann,
One thing to consider is that the digital out on the back of the Audigy 2 ZS is not an actual SPDIF out. It uses the DIN interface which is similar in form, but has a different rating on the voltage of the connection. Most receivers will still work with it, but some will not. This is most likely why it is not showing PCM on the receiver. If you have the platinum dri've, there is a true SPDIF on it but we cannot guarantee that it will work with a receiver using the DIN on the Audigy 2 ZS.

  • Audigy 4, digital out would not work, now external box does not power

I recently purchased a audigy 4 sound card. At first it was almost as if there was a loose wire somewhere. Sometimes the external break out box would power up and sometimes it would not. There was no loose wire and it now no longer powers up at all. The only thing that was worse than the intermittent power up was the digital out on the box. First of all I was told that you could use the spidf out on the box to a receivers digital in, this never worked now matter what settings I tried. I was then told to try the mini out. So I went and bought a mono mini out, that was a joke, didn't fit right rarely worked. I then went and bought a mini stereo plug to RCA out, that fit right and worked a few times, It no longer works at all.
I had the settings set up correctly with the spidif passthrough.
Has anyone else had any problems getting the digital out to work with a receiver?
The analog works fine, but just like the audigy mp3 the bass output for my sub is weak and almost nonexistent. I have a nice hifi/ht system I am trying to get this card to work with.

    hello there!
i have the same problem - when i use the equalizer i can save a preset without problems,
but if i reboot the pc i first have to open the equalizers window to make the equalizer work. without having opened the equalizer window it seems to be not activated.
does anybody have an idea how to fix that problem?

  • No Sound when using Digital out with Mac Mini

The Digital out on my mac mini has become seriously unreliable. The sound slider is all the way up but locked, no movement is possible. The Toslink cable shows light, and when plugged into another device the amplifier receives sound.
This is an intermittent problem, for awhile rebooting would make the sound come back, however this has stopped working.
unplug the toslink and the built in speaker plays fine. Sound slider becomes movable.
If you sent the sound slider to 50% then plug the toslink back in it jumps to 100% and all controls ar grayed out and 0 sound.
any troubleshooting tips would be most appreciated as this is my primary audio video device.

Not likely. Think about this: The output is simply a digital stream of bits. Volume does not apply to digital bits... The first place where you can adjust volume will be in an outboard DAC, a preamp or an integrated receiver.
For a great DAC, check out ps audio "digital link III", retails currently for around $695, B stock may be avail for around 550. There is a cheaper quality DAC available from Cambridge Audio "Digital Magic", but it is not in the same league as the PS Audio or other higher cost DACs (such as Benchmark Media's DAC1).
For a fantastic audio system that takes digital audio from a Mac Mini, I have a PS Audio DL III taking Toslink from the Mini and feeding RCA analog into a Zpre from Parasound with a couple of Zamp (zone amps) from Parasound going into very nice bookshelf speakers and in ceiling speakers.
The volume is controlled by the Zpre amp ...As it must be

Stuck in headphone (optical digital-out port) mode. What do I do? Plugging and unplugging headphone jack no help.

Do you see a red light in the headphone jack?? If you do, then the microswitch is stuck and you need to turn it off. Try poking it with a toothpick.
If you don't see a red light, then try resetting the SMC and PRAM and see if these helps. Here are the links.

  • Question regarding Alsoft DiscWarrior and mac mini

Disregard Model & OS displayed in my Public File, this is regarding my son's mac mini running OSX Panther 10.3.9
When restarting the computer to rebuild and replace the directory, you must hold down the 'C' key while the comp boots up from the Alsoft CD. But he has an Acer keyboard, not an Apple keyboard. The grey screen comes up with the Apple logo, but never boots.
    Anyone have a work-around?

    Well George,
It's like this. Apple keyboards work fine all the time. Keyboards from other manufacturers will work on some keyboard combinations and not others.
My guess is that c should work. The c is the same on all keyboards. Using option/command is different for Windows/linux keyboards but you are right. It should work.
Except on my Microsoft Wireless Keyboard. It doesn't.
Since the Mini does not come with a keyboard or mouse I would expect that Apple should be forward in their thinking and enable keyboards and mice for the rest of the world to work as Apple intends but I don't know if that is the case.

Calendar not syncing, unable to add events as the + sign at the top right is greyed out and nothing happens when you touch it.  Then realized that my Notes aren't syncing either nor are my reminders.  What the heck is going on.  This ipad mini is just barely 6 months old.  Software is up to date.  Someone please help me.

  • A simple question regarding c:out and ADF

    I have a small problem which I can't figure out :-(
The solution is probably dead easy, but I don't see it ..
    The problem is :
I have a jsp-file which have the following tags :
    <c:out value="${bindings.EstimatedInterest}" />
    <c:out value="${bindings.RemainingAmount}" />
And I want to have one more field which just adds these two together.
But I get this error :
Attempt to coerce a value of type "oracle.jbo.uicli.binding.JUCtrlAttrsBinding" to type "java.lang.Long" (null)
Can anyone pls point me in the right direction ?
    With regards, TA

This may help. I asked Muench what I think is about the same question:
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/2004/04/28.html
    in general:
    <c:out value="${(bindings.Returned.inputValue.value / bindings.Total.inputValue.value) * 100}"/>
(this may not be the same as your question but will point you in a direction)

  • SB Live 5.1 - Digital out does not wo

With the Sound Blaster Li've 5. that I have, I have never been able to get a digital signal to play. My first theory is that my A/V Recei'ver (Onkyo TXDS 747) from 998 can only handle a digital coax signal of 48kHz. Is it possible this receiver is too old to handle digital in? If that is the case, can I de-tune the sound card with some setting to an output that my receiver would accept?
Secondly, what is the proper adapter to use to go from the mini-jack to the full sized digital coax table? (The proper term may be SPDIF).
    Thanks!

That's right, I have no sound at all out of the digital jack. Analog works fine. I did more digging and found the manual on this site and it says to you a mono mini-jack to RCA adapter. So I think I'm good with my connection. So there must be a software adjustment of some kind.
Any other long shots you can think of?
    Thanks!

  • Newbie question - Regions grayed out, audio not playing... please help!

    Good morning,
I've got a problem that seems like it should have a simple solution, but I don't know enough about Logic to know what the solution is.
I had put together a few tracks and everything was working fine. Now, for some reason, the regions are grayed out and when I hit play, there is no sound and the meters do not register anything. I've checked the levels on the mixer, and I have the proper audio input-output settings in the preferences (I think); the audio just isn't playing.
Note that when I double click the region and go into sample editor mode, the audio plays fine.
    Here is a screenshot: http://grab.by/3nMD
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks so much!

    Hello,
Logic has a number of ways to mute or solo regions, tracks and channels.
Select the two regions (they are selected in the picture) and press the 'M' key on your keyboard. This will unmute them.
There is a very good and easy to follow tutorial for new users I recommend very highly -

  • General question regarding System.out.println

    Just for my knowledge fellas,
When you have a few System.out.println's in your code, what happens to the lines written to standard out when you run your application from the executable jar file? I know if you run your app in cmd prompt, then the lines are outputted to the cmd screen, and in Netbeans, in the output section...but where do those lines go when you run the app as an executeable? Are they still written, but there's nothing to show the written lines?

  • A question on digital out on macbook

My friend is interested in a macbook for duties at hifi shows.
As his business is hifi he needs to know if a digital optical lead connected to a macbook outputs at 48000hz?
Basically I think the idea is to play uncompressed music off the mac book into some hifi. He does not want the output to be any kind of bottle neck.
Sadly the tech specs on the apple website are not very technical.

  • TOSLINK/SPDIF optical digital out problem

Dunno what the problem is here. I've used a mini-Toslink adapter and cable to successfully send a digital signal to my amplifier with my Macbook Pro and a previous iMac G5 iSight, but recently failed to do the same with my new 24" iMac. The red light and the Sound preferences suggest that the digital output is working, but no sound comes out. The same setup works fine with my MBP's digital output, so I can't explain the problem on the iMac.
Does anyone know of any other ways to test or verify that the digital output is working? Perhaps there is another way to turn the digital output on/off? I'm hoping this is a software issue ...
    Thanks.

I'm having a similar problem / issue with the digital outs...
I'm sending a digital signal via a mini-TOSlink adaptor to my MOTU 828mkII ADAT IN... first problem is that unless I set the MOTU's clock to ADAT IN... (and not use it's only internal clock) then I get digital noise when I playback anything on my iMac... since there is no way to set the iMac clock in Audio Midi Setup to External... it's greyed out.
The larger issue is that playback works fine as long as the Audio driver is being used... i.e. iTunes playiing something back. When I stop any audio playback... about 30 seconds later, the MOTU sync light starts flashing as it's NOT receiving a sync signal from the iMac anylonger. Then if I start playback again it takes about 2-3 seconds for the playback to sound. Totally unacceptable...
I noticed a few things... first off... I also send a signal from my MOTU BACK to my iMac through the iMac's digital IN. With the Digital Output on the iMac, plugging in the TOSLINK cable will automatically change the OUTPUT in Audio Midi Setup to Digital Out... when plugging in the 2nd cable to Digital In, Audio Midi Setup DOES NOT change to Digital In unless you start audio playback, and that's where the 2-3 seconds lag comes in. When you actually hear the playback, if Audio Midi Setup is open... you can see the INPUT switch from Line In to Digital In... and if you stop playback, you can see the Digital In go BACK to Line In about 30 secs later... which should NOT be happening... although technically the Digital in should have NO effect on the Digital Out here anyway... and in truth it doesn't... taking the Digital In out of the equation totally - I still see the same issues... just find it interesting that this is happening.
Anyhow, I have no advice to help you out rwcoch... I wish I did... this is ridiculous! I'm going to search a bit more and see if anyone else has anything remotely similar...
Can anyone else try to replicate my issue? Try sending a digital signal to another sound card... ?
    Thanks

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi: Enabling digital out under Windows Vi

    Hi,
I recently upgraded Windows XP machine to Windows Vista Ultimate. On the XP install, I had my Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music (SB0460) plugged into an external AV receiver via the digital out jack on the back of the card. This all worked fine.
Following the Vista upgrade, the receiver seems to be no longer geting a signal from Windows. None of the cabling was touched so I'm assuming there must be some setting in Vista to enable the digital out, but not for lack of trying, I can't seem to find it.
I've installed the latest drivers from the site and the sound card appears to be working correctly. The sound manager in the Control Panel shows three devices (Speakers, SPDIF Out, and Headphones). I've tried it with Speakers set to default and also with SPDIF set to default, but no joy. On Speakers, I can get sound output by plugging in headphones, but on SPDIF, nothing.
I've also looked through Audio Consol's settings and there doesn't appear to be any "Decoder" option that is mentioned on some early posts I found on other sites relating to this problem.
Any suggestions on how to enable digital out under Vista would be most appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

  • Soundblasters with on-board digital out

i want to upgrade my ancient sbli've and im using speakers that only accept creative digital out for surround sound.
i looked at the cards currently in the shops within my budget ($00AU) then look at the specs on here and NONE seem to have on-board digital out? is this right? Audigy Value,Audigy 2 Value and Audigy 4 non Pro all do not have on board digital out?Message Edited by spanket on 04-0-20060:36 AM

If you need digital I/O, or access, there is a add-on module in the
"Acessories" Category of their Shopping Link that you can plug into the Digital In...which provides both SPDIF (Coaxial) and Optical Connectivity for your and up to the newest X-Fi. Unfortunately, all my excitement as I did order one of these ($4.99, actually cheap for a change) have been deflated. As to being able to finially link up all my digital ouputs to run through my Shuttle system to hear my DVD's Digital Output and Cable TV DTS or Dolby 5., EX, etc. have been dismal at best. For it will not connect in DTS or Dolby, only in a simulated CMMS 3D downmix seems possible. How can this company get away with touting...Dolby DTS, Dolby EX, etc all over their boxes and it does not even handle such capabilities...and if it does...PLEASE PASS IT ON CREATIVE... I have been dealing with your nonesene for years and decided to give it another chance. BUT...as usual, the SOS....different label..that's all.
PLEASE, if you get this, it just offers a hole to plug it in....doesn't mean your gettting the whole DTS or Dolby EX experience....just a simulated CMSS 3D Garbage, (BTW..if you get nothing with this adapter, enable CMSS...then you will at least get a sound out of this)....with a rediculously FAINT middle channel, for what...OH ONLY THE VOICES of the soundtrack that's all....a joke..
Please respond if you know better.....
    Thanks....
