Question regarding security on this forum please

I am new here (am assuming label 'Newbie' is related to posts etc?) - can anybody help with this please?  When I click on my user ID when I'm signed in I can see my email address under 'Public Statistics' - yet I can't see anybody else's. Is it only me that can see it? I ask because I really don't want my email address visible in case spam robots read it - this might be a silly question to an experienced user of this forum but do I need to worry? Thanks! Dave T.

  • Question on security in ABAP. Please help!

    Hi Experts,
I have a question on security in ABAP program.
I have a ABAP program which has a transaction attached.
I have added authorization check in ABAP program(Progran level security).
I have also attached the authorization object to the transaction.(Transaction level security)
If an end user runs the transactionm, then which authorization check will fire first? Will it be transaction level?
If I have web enabled my ABAP program via SICF (in other words, ITS). Then when I try to run my ITS service in the browser will the transaction level authorization fire? or Will the program level authorization fire?
Please help me understand this security aspect.
    Thanks
    Gopal

    Hi gopalkrishna,
    1. if an end user runs the transactionm, then which authorization check will fire first? Will it be transaction level?
    Yes, transaction level first !
    2. In ITS scenario also,
      a) first tcode level,
      b) then, program level
    regards,

  • Question to Moderators of this Forum

    Hello Moderators,
First of all, a very LOTs of thanks, for creating such a Great Platform for the solution of an ERROR known as Community Network Forums.
Here we can discuss regarding any error, issue related to the SAP, But i am seeing that most of my Post are being neglected and thrown-away from this  Forum to the Test and Playground environment.
I am not in a Habit of posting my question to this Forum, first i try to take Help of Mr. GOOGLE, if i do not get any suggestion then i POST my questions to the Forums.
I did not got any of the Solution from Test and Playground Environment, and there are certaing issues which needs to be taken care immediately, and for that People use this Forum.
These thing are not mentioned in the Rules OF Engagement for this Forum, that the Post will be moved to Test and Playground system.
I know in SAP we have Test System, where we can test our functinality before putting it into PRODUCTION.
But here in test and playground system, i am seeing that my post are not been attended, and getting older and older.
Can anybody explain, whether my Questions are irrelevant, so that they can be neglected, OR my questions are not made for this Forum.
    Please do reply.
    Thanks and Regards,
    CB

    Hi CB,
What typically happens is that the "Report Abuse" button raises an alert for the moderators from one or more community members that some thing is not right with the thread.
We then also look at the track record of previous complaints to gage how to react.
In your specific case more effort should go into the question and I also recomment stating what you have managed to find or try yourself that does not work.
Also you have duplicate posted in the past, which does not count in your favour and contributors as well as moderators dont like that.
In the past we have rejected such posts. Now we often move them to the "Beginner's Corner" (which for the moment still has the title "Test & Playground forum" but will be changed later this year to a beginners forum for each category - I am told).
Personally I also dont like the side affect of folks rushing in to answer easy questions over and over again and neglecting the more interesting ones (a.k.a. "flooding the forum").
    Hope you understand.
Is there any specific question of yours which you feel should be moved back to the forum? I will take a second look at it if you do as well..
    Cheers,
    Julius

  • Questions for anyone using this forum

is this forum only for people who have problems with apple stuff to go and complain so that we feel better, because i've posted numerous questions on this and other forums, non have gotten replies. i really feel as though this is only a place where people can go to vent some frustration with things. i'm not even sure if there's a guy (or team, which there should be,) out there just looking at these questions and trying as best as they can. now i understand if its only a group of like ten gpeople there to help us because there has got to be at least a million people, if not more, out here sing mac products and experienceing problems. i just want to know if its really that hard to get a little responce about things. we have problems, we come here for answers because thats where apple tells us the answers are.
now my latest question may not be able to be answered by an apple tech, but, where is the best place to hock an iPod for $$$. mine is dead and will not come back to life. i want to get another iPod but its not in my budget unless i can sell my current dead iPod to put a down payment on a new one. so if theres anyone out there with an answer, please respond, otherwise its like talking to a wall.
Windows XP Pro 20 gb iPod photo

No, this is definately not a place just to complain so you can feel better. These are user-to-user support forums. Nobody here works for Apple (other than an occasional moderator). We're just users like you who enjoy helping others.
I haven't seen your other posts, but usually if a post goes a while without a response, it's because the post either doesn't provide enough information, or is just a rant and doesn't ask a specific question. Post a detailed description of your problem without ranting about it and you will be very likely to receive help.
If your iPod is dead, you can either sell it on ebay or somewhere (people will buy non-functioning iPods), or take it to an Apple store and give it to them and receive 10% off a new iPod.
    Cheers!

  • Why do I have to keep re-asking my questions - third time for this forum?

    I have several questions:
    1) This is the third time I have asked questions on this forum and I seem to be in a loop - like Groundhog Day;
    2) All of a sudden, upon loading Photoshop, my adjustment layers do not work.  When I click on one, it just puts a blank layer above my main picture layer;
    3) My plug-ins are missing (Topaz, Nik)?

1 - moved from the general forum to the correct Photoshop forum... these are user to user forums, you won't get an answer if you ask in the wrong place, or if nobody knows the answer
2 - These questions below may be for a different product... but the KIND of information you need to supply is the same, for the products you use
More information needed for someone to help... please click below and provide the requested information

  • Bit of a strange question regarding security and internet connection

This is a bit of an odd question so bear with me for a moment.
I sold my old G4 to someone I didn't know yesterday. While he was looking at it to make sure it was working I allowed him to plug my ethernet cable in (connected to both a netgear router and a cable modem) and go online to install an application on the computer he was buying. It did't take long and I didn't actually see what he installed but after he left and I plugged back in to my mac pro, my internet connection started suffering. It started by being very slow and then timing out with servers. I reset the modem and even bypassed the router but the connection did not improve and eventually I could only get a self assigned IP address with no internet, although the modem appeared to be fine.
Aside from finding my I.P. address at my location, is there anything else he could have compomised security wise, either in the name of harvesting some kind of info or just creating a problem in the cable network when I let him use my connection on the g4?
I think that most likely I'm being a little paranoid but the timing of this is a bit strange. It literally went down hill just after he left.
Today the cable company is reporting a wider internet outage than just me but I just though I'd throw it out there to see if there are any security wholes exploitable when someone uses your internet connection (I would think and hope that there are not).
    thanks a bunch

Well, in the closing the stable door approach it is a good idea to do a complete erase and install when selling any computer. There's lots of references to this and even one about removing a certain file so when they start up they get the brand new Mac greeting window. If you do not erase the drive using the secure erase feature in Disk Utility then with an $80 investment plus an empty spare drive the purchaser can likely recover any files you had on the computer recently if they consider it worth the effort.
I suspect the internet issue is not related to this, especially since your ISP commented about problems.

  • Question regarding security of "applets"

As a novice "apple scripter", (since 2012) I was wondering if anyone knows how good the security is for an applet saved as "run only" I have read that one would need a decompiler, to penetrate security but the  writer said he had never seen one!
The reason is that I have recently written a script that actually works! and it is a encryption tool to encrypt r.t.f.documents  in "text edit" and of course another to decrypt. (with a password dialog box). figured this would be useful for storing all sensitive info on my computer and in e-mails etc, so security is important to it's function.

If you want to encrypt, why not use openssl?  It's already in OS X.
Here's an Applescript wrapper to openssl-aes I wrote a few years ago:
    Encrypt:
    on run
set f to choose file with prompt "Select file to encrypt:" default location alias (the path to desktop folder as text)
              my proceed_(f)
    end run
    on open f
if (count of f) is not equal to 1 then
display dialog ("More than 1 file was selected") with icon stop buttons {"Cancel"} default button 1 with title "openssl aes-256"
              else
                        my proceed_(f)
              end if
    end open
    on proceed_(f)
tell application "System Events" to set finfo to the properties of (f as alias)

  • Question Regarding Security Updates 2006-005 and 2006-006?

Okay I just noticed Apple Security Update 2006-005 and 2006-006 are available for download. Has anyone had any problems with these updates? I remember the Security Update 2006-001 was a nightmare for me -- Safari was broken after that update I had to do a complete OS reinstall then re-update to Mac OSZ 10.3.9 Panther and I only want to update if the likelihood of any problems occuring is very slim. Anyone running Mac OS X on PowerPC chips (i.e. using a PowerBook, an older iMac, Mac Mini, PowerMac etc) or on Intel chips (i.e. MacBook Pro, the new iMacs, new Mac Mini's etc) with Mac OS X Panther, Mac OS X Tiger etc having any problems with either update?

(10.3.9 Client) seems to have broken my CS2 Version Cue after loading Security Update 2006-006 via Software Update - 27MB or something.
Though afterwards all apps (Illustrator 12.0.1, Acrobat 7.0.8, PS 9.0.1 and InDesign 4.0.4) open and run fine, Version Cue disappeared from the Desktop Menu and System Preferences and says it's no longer installed, all this immediately after loading the Update and restarting.
Two restarts and a Repair Permissions haven't resolved the issue. I've downloaded the stand alone Update and have run that but without any luck. I'd had no history of any trouble with any Security Update prior to this, and have run good maintenance schedules.
I've not seen any other posts or related issues to mine, so maybe it's just my isolated event?

  • How to effectively ask a question on this forum

Ok, so this'll take a little explaining. I was kinda bored over my lunch break, so i decided I'd write a general reference for how to post well on this forum. I realize that many people aren't gonna read this the first time they post, but i thought it would be a good thing to reference when replying to people who post a poor question.
_10 Ways to Post a Good Question on this Forum_
_1) Write a descriptive subject line_
This is the first thing that people see, and it influences how they read a question. Subjects like "Java error" tell people nothing about your problem. Subjects like "How to implement a SAX parser for use in multiple classes" are infinitely more useful.
_2) Don't use phrases such as URGENT or HELP ME!!! or IT'S DUE IN AN HOUR!!!!_
The people on this forum don't have the same priorities as you, and therefore don't care if your problem is urgent. In fact, they find it rude to assert that your problem should be solved before somebody else's just because you procrastinated. They also don't pleas for help too fondly. Typically posters who write this sort of phrase in their post has given up and become helpless, making it very difficult to guide them to the answer. Also, keep the caps lock off. THERE IS NOTHING MORE ANNOYING THAN ALL-CAPS POSTS. IT SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE YELLING, and people will make you aware of how it annoys them.
_3) Dont post your homework assignments asking for "teh codez"_
You will get flamed like none other for this sort of question. You may get codes, but when you submit them to your instructor, you may get suspended or expelled (depending on your school's cheating policy). The people on this forum are more advanced than you in Java, and can make it painfully obvious to your instructor that you cheated.
    _4) Write in normal English_
Think of this forum as your supervisor or instructor, you want to sound professional and convey your question effectively. SMS speak or any other sort of abbreviation of the English language becomes difficult to read, and many people on this forum won't even try. This forum is filled with professionals in the Java world, and they are accustomed to reading true English (full sentences).
    _5) Don't be helpless_
This forum is here mainly to help with specific problems, not to teach you Java. If you don't know where to start, a person is most likely going to tell you to write the solution out on paper first, breaking it down into small steps that can be accomplished by the computer.
    _6) Do your research_
Many of the questions posted can be solved with a quick Google search. You should check a few places before you even post a question. They include: this forum (do a forum search), Google (do a Google search), the API's (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/), and the Java Tutorials(http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/)
_7) Post code and errors with your question_
The answer to your problem is in the error messages and the code. Instead of asking a general question about for loops, post the code that you have written and the error info that you get. When asking a question it is IMPERATIVE that you have tried to do it your own way, because the people on the forum mostly won't do it for you, they'll only point out where you have done it wrong and try to help you fix it. Don't paraphrase your error messages, because there are subtleties in the actual messages that you may unknowingly edit out.
    _8) Don't Multi-post_
It is rude to post the same question multiple times or in multiple places in the this forum. This is for the same reason as #2, it makes it seem that you think your problem is more urgent or important than others' problems.
    _9) Don't resurrect dead threads_
If a thread is 3 years old, nobody is going to remember it, so make a new thread to ask your question. If you have a question about something in the old thread, reference it through a hyperlink.
    _10) Take it easy_
As long as the people in the forum see that you're legitimately trying to help yourself, they'll help you as much as they see fit. The biggest problem that newbies have is they rely on the forum to spoonfeed them the info, and it's not going to happen. They'll either get flamed or ignored. The people on the forum aren't trying to find "fresh meat to flame", they legitimately want to help you, and they'll typically give you fair warning if you're doing something annoying or unorthodox.

There does seem to be a way to sticky posts, but I think only mods and admins have the power to do it. There's one over on the Generics forum : http://forum.java.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=316
I've been trying to add a pseudo-signature to my posts as far as possible, with a link to a page which pretty much covers this stuff, only it's on JavaRanch:
People on the forum help others voluntarily, it's not their job.
    Help them help you.
Learn how to ask questions first: http://faq.javaranch.com/java/HowToAskQuestionsOnJavaRanch
But I've had a couple of occasions where the OPs thought it was directed at them and they got a tad upset :)
And without hyperlinks, I'm not quite sure how many people actually take the pains to go to that page.
Ah well, no one can say I didn't try.

  • Please do not post questions about Adobe software in this forum

    Hello, welcome to the forums.
What you may not realise is that each Adobe product has its own specialist forum, and it's very important to choose the right one. This forum isn't about products, it's about comments on the forums themselves.
So, please go back to http://www.adobe.com/support/forums.html and choose the right forum. But first, make sure you know the name of your product.
When you look at the list of messages in a forum, there is a box above that describing what the forum is for. Take care to read it carefully, or you may put your message in a forum where there are no experts who understand your question. Also, check to see whether there are any "FAQ" (Frequently Asked Questions) sections in the product forum, and search for previous discussions about the question you wish to ask before starting a new one.

this is maybe because users are directly forwarded to this forum when looking for a contact in the otn-contact page. i suggest to change the contact-site and the direct the users to the "forums home" page.

I have just got my iPad2 and am very pleased with it. I have a question regarding the monthly (recommended) battery full charge.  Should I let the battery completely die down to nothing at all before I plug in to recharge or would this complete drain be bad for my iPad?

It's not bad for it - on this page www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html it says :
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

  • Hi, I want to downgrade from OSX LEOPARD to OSX TIGER but I have a few questions regarding this. My iMac is originally from 2007 it came preloaded with tiger. I have original install tiger discs version 10.4.10. Is it safe to downgrade or not please help

Hi, I want to downgrade from OSX LEOPARD to OSX TIGER but I have a few questions regarding this. My iMac is originally from Sep 2007 it came preloaded with tiger. I have original install (2) tiger discs version 10.4.10.  I want to know if it is safe and what are the necessary steps to do so. Also by downgrading im wondering if a lot of apps nowadays support tiger for example I have photoshop version 5 and 4 these are very important to me. One last question does anyone know of any reliable virus protection for mac that doesnt slow down your computer? because I have read that a lot of them do so. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it! Here are the specs for my iMac
    Model Name:
    iMac
      Model Identifier:
    iMac7,1
      Processor Name:
    Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:
    2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:
    1
      Total Number Of Cores:
    2
      L2 Cache:
    4 MB
      Memory:
    2 GB
      Bus Speed:
    800 MHz

Most of the time a perception of general slow performance is the result of installing third party junk alleged to speed up, "clean" or "optimize" your Mac, or to look for viruses that don't exist. Ideally you would know what you installed so you can uninstall it, but if you don't know or aren't sure there are techniques such as Safe Mode and creating a temporary user account to confirm that suspicion.
If you open Activity Monitor it may show a process, or processes, that occupy a lot of your system's time.
Slowness confined solely to web browser activity is often the result of an inexorable progress toward websites that demand ever more processor-intensive tasks. If your slow performance is strictly limited to web browsing, you might try disabling Flash by either uninstalling it, or use utilities such as ClickToFlash that allow you to control what Flash content gets loaded. Flash in itself is not inherently evil, but there is nothing to stop websites or the advertisers who pay for them from writing horrible Flash code that can do everything from hogging 100% of your CPU's time to causing random crashes. You can watch Activity Monitor as in the above to correlate these troublesome web pages with performance degradation.
You are correct; if your computer shipped with Tiger you may certainly revert to it. I forgot that Tiger was shipping on new Macs as recently as five years ago. To downgrade it would be necessary to completely erase your hard disk and boot with the Tiger installation DVD, followed by installing it anew. Such drastic measures are not necessary and you are unlikely to be satisfied with the results anyway.
Assuming your system is free of third party parasitic junk attached to OS X in an ill-conceived attempt to improve upon it, that your hard disk drive is sound and the boot volume has enough free space to work with, by far the best performance-enhancing improvement would be to add more memory. Buy as much as your computer can use and that you can afford. 2 GB is not that much any more.

  • I added an alternate email for my apple account, but despite of this I didn't see the link below the forgotten security questions? How can I fix this problem, please?

How I reset the security itunes questions when the link is missed?

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
An alternate email address isn't the same as a rescue email address.
