Question Regarding Security Updates 2006-005 and 2006-006?

Okay I just noticed Apple Security Update 2006-005 and 2006-006 are available for download. Has anyone had any problems with these updates? I remember the Security Update 2006-001 was a nightmare for me -- Safari was broken after that update I had to do a complete OS reinstall then re-update to Mac OSZ 10.3.9 Panther and I only want to update if the likelihood of any problems occuring is very slim. Anyone running Mac OS X on PowerPC chips (i.e. using a PowerBook, an older iMac, Mac Mini, PowerMac etc) or on Intel chips (i.e. MacBook Pro, the new iMacs, new Mac Mini's etc) with Mac OS X Panther, Mac OS X Tiger etc having any problems with either update?

(10.3.9 Client) seems to have broken my CS2 Version Cue after loading Security Update 2006-006 via Software Update - 27MB or something.
Though afterwards all apps (Illustrator 12.0.1, Acrobat 7.0.8, PS 9.0.1 and InDesign 4.0.4) open and run fine, Version Cue disappeared from the Desktop Menu and System Preferences and says it's no longer installed, all this immediately after loading the Update and restarting.
Two restarts and a Repair Permissions haven't resolved the issue. I've downloaded the stand alone Update and have run that but without any luck. I'd had no history of any trouble with any Security Update prior to this, and have run good maintenance schedules.
I've not seen any other posts or related issues to mine, so maybe it's just my isolated event?

  • Security update 2007-005 and airport connection

Please help. I downloaded the security update 2007 005 on my powerbook G4 Friday night. Now I cannot get on my airport. It says there was an error joining the airport network (name of my airport) It gives me 2 options try again
or ok. i have tried everything. I even tried pinging my pc that I am on now to email this to see if I could connect with anything. But the powerbook fails to send any ping. I have rebooted, both the airport and the powerbook--several times. I have looked for information
everywhere about this both in Mac Help on my computer and online and have turned up nothing that can fix this unless I want to reinstall the operating system.
My only conclusion is that the security update did this. I was online (of course) as I downloaded the update and ever since I can not get online with the airport. Thank heavens I have a PC to get email or maybe get help through a forum like this. I have been trying to fix this all weekend. In system preferences /network status it says airport is turned on but not connected to a network when there is one. Any advice?
    powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I have a same problem, everything worked fine until I've downloaded security update. My Airport doesn't allow me to connect to my PASSWORD protected network. My PC is working fine. The only way is to be connected to open source. Called Mac support and they blame router (it is not mac's router). Their suggestion is to reinstall whole system (and lose software I payed for) or buy new router (macs????). So I am stuck. The advice by apple support was NOT to download updates!!!!Why on Earth do they have them????

  • Security update 2007-005 and Imovie problem

Yesterday my macbook automatically installed security update 2007-005. I later opened Imovie HD 6 and found a problem - when opening, the program title etc was shown in the desktop menu but then the last movie I worked on started to open, putting the opening picture directly onto the top left of the desktop over everything else including the menu. The Imovie page then opened on top of this, with a blank Imovie screen. To get the movie into the screen I have to start the movie running. Imovie then seems to work OK but this leaves fragments of the first screenshot of the movie still on the desktop until overwritten by other programs or actions. What can I do about it?

  • Mac shuts down after security update 2007-005

I installed security update 2007-005 and now after going to sleep the mac just shuts down. I have repaired permissions and run DiskWarrior. It just keeps happening.

Since I have installed security update 2007-003 and 4, DVD player was disabled. now that apple released security update 2007-005, I am now facing more serious issues with the entire system halting (the clock is frozen and the mouse turns into a beach ball... every once in a while)! I am beginning to suspect that the last three security updates need to be avoided at any cost since I have had so many problems with them!
So, in answer to your question, I would just run a clean install of OS 10.3, and never install security update 2007-004 and 5 until apple assures us that there are no more flaws in the security updates again!

  • Unable to see PC's on network after Security Update 2008-005

I just updated our Tiger server with the latest security update 2008-005 and now none of the PC's can see the Workgroup or the server. In addition, the Macs can no longer see the PC's on the network. The PC's can connect to other computers if it was previously mapped. However if we try to connect to the Workgroup, it is denied. Previously one PC's with the Windows Firewall turned on blocked all the PC's from seeing the Workgroup however it did not block Macs. This time viewing PC's is blocked completely and there are no PC's windows firewalls running. The macs can still see other macs and the servers (all Xserve's).

Issue resolved. It had nothing to do with the update. When I restarted the server it chose an NT computer on the network as the Master Browser. The resolution was to turn off the NT computer, restart the computer and let it pick up one of the 2000 or XP computers as the Master Browser. That worked.

  • ClamAV and DNS Failure with Security Update 2010-005

Hey everyone, got a bit of an issue.
I'm running Leopard Server 10.5.8 and I've noticed a very odd issue with the latest security update, (2010-005).
Since the update, whenever ClamAV goes out to check for new definitions and database updates, all of my DNS clients lose connection during the few minutes that it's working. I've verified this by watching the logs as the updates happen. Everything is fine, and the second that ClamAV starts running, DNS fails on all the clients, then starts again after the update process.
Anyone else notice this? And more importantly, how should I go about disabling ClamAV, since I don't run a mail server off this particular server.
    Thanks!

The System Info below your post indicates that you are running OS X 10.5.8. The FaceTime Beta requires a minimum of OS X 10.6.4.

First off, iOS 5 will not run on Macs.   You need to give us your Mac OS X on your Mac to determine which security update you need.  Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac.     And then read the link here:

    Dear Kasi
its not a problem if you are working on IDES.
    Enter T code SE16N.
Enter table name MARV. Press enter.
Enter your company code in the required field. Press enter.
Enter   &SAP_EDIT   in the place where you entered the T code. Press enter. Now it is in edit mode.
Execute (click on Clock icon). A new screen appears.
Enter The Current Year: Current Month: Year of the previous Month: Previous month: Last year: Last month of the calendar year. As asked in the screen.
Press enter. Save and come outside.
Please do remember all the time period should be as per your system calendar.
Also do remember this is only workable when you are using IDES for education purpose only. Because skipping so many periods in between can cause problems when you are on real time scenario. Using MMPV is the standard procedure where you close the periods one by one.
    Try it.

  • Security Update 2008-005 for Leopard

Pushed the Security Update 2008-005 packages for 10.4.11 PPC/Intel, and 10.5.4 Leopard systems via ARD 3.2 to appropriate clients. The PPC and Intel pushes went as expected. At the end of the Leopard push caused about 10 systems to black their screen -- the mouse pointer moved and was the only thing visible. These systems had a user currently logged in. The Leopard systems with no user logged in updated and restarted. Had to visit each system and manually restart. The question is: do Leopard updates need to be handled differently than Tiger? Should Install NOT do a restart at the end of the push and then manually restart these systems? I wish Apple would test their security updates to work with ARD a little bit better. If the problem is with ARD, then we need a fixed version.

    Hi Bob,
I've been looking for work the last 2 months so I can't attest to the SU2008-005 but, can feel your pain.
Leopard updates do act differently as I'm sure you've noticed. Some log you out while others don't. Most any update can get a little weird if an application is running and decides to hog resources, screensaver starts, even a login or logout occurs. That is why I made it a practice when scheduling updates to push, to Restart the system, then 10 minutes later send the updates out. Of course I would have this happen late evenings when I know nobody would disturb the systems and that I'd be in before most of the system's users would arrive the next day. That way you can check the status of the systems and give them a little extra attention if needed. That is a much rarer occurrence with fresh started systems.

  • Security Update 2014-005 1.0 is trying to install a second time

Security Update 2014-005 1.0 has already been installed and is part of the "Updates Installed in the Last 30 Days" Above that there is "1 Update Available" but it is the same one I have already installed. Unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to it at first and tried to finish installing it by hitting the RESTART button..... the iMac tried to restart but stayed doing the spinning circle of death.... I waited for 30mins and nothing happened. I ended up unplugging the power a restarted the iMac and it appears to be running fine. However, 1 available update remains and continues prompting to install. How can I clear this update???

Then the problem is on your computer or you are running Yosemite. If it's the former then start with:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion or Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

  • Delay when opening Airport menu bar item following Security Update 2007-005

When I first got this computer, there was one annoying quirk: when I clicked on the Airport menu bar item at the top right, there would be a roughly 1 second pause before the menu actually appeared. I recall hearing other people having the same experience at the time. Airport worked fine, but this delay was really annoying: since you're not sure if the system registered your click, so you click again, but then it registers the second click which causes the menu to disappear as soon as it appears, and you click again, and fall into this ridiculous cycle of fighting the sluggish menu item.
Before long, this issue disappeared following some update (I can't remember which).
After installing Security Update 2007-005, this exact same annoyance has reappeared. (I can confirm that the presence of the 802.11n Enabler update has no effect on the problem.)
Is anyone else noticing this? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

    Hi

  • Gray spot since Security Update 2014-005 1.0 ?

Hello, yesterday I installed “Security Update 2014-005 1.0” on a Mid 2010 27’’ iMac running Mavericks 10.9.5 and a small gray spot appeared at the upper left corner of the screen, above the Apple logo. I know that dust enters sometimes to the screen but this is something different. It looks as if the pixels of that area were darkened (but not completely turned off). The spot remains the same size when applying the zoom or changing screen resolution. On white backgrounds it almost disappears. It is not reflected on screen captures.
Later on, I upgraded the system to Yosemite but the spot remained.
It’s about half a centimeter so maybe it’s just a coincidence that I noticed it exactly after installing the security update.
    Anyone experiencing something similar?

I discovered another problem: Image retention.
The picture is from the menu bar area, it reads “Safari Archivo Edición” (“Safari File Edit” in english). The other spots are just dust from my camera lens.
Image retention only appears around that upper left corner area of the screen. I’m doing tests to see how permanent the retention is. It could be that the screen is physically damaged, but maybe it’s just a software bug since I noticed the gray dark spot only after installing the software updates.
