Question regarding USB 3.0 port

Hello,
I just received an iMac 27" a few days ago. It comes with USB 3.0 ports. I have an external hard drive with USB 3.0 port and cable. I hooked up the drive to the iMac and the combination works fine most of the time. However if I leave the computer on during the day I always come back to the hard drive ejected error message. Seems like the computer eject the hard drive at random.
Any thoughts.
Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Many USB 3.0 deivices can backward compatible but many USB 2.0 devices may have minor problem with USB 3.0 ports. Just keep the dongle on USB 2.0 port at this stage.
    Hope this helps.

  • Question regarding mic plugged into audio in/optical digital audio in port

So I have this external headset... headphone/mic set combo... I plug the headphone jack in the headphone slot and the mic jack in the audio in/optical digital audio in port slot in the back of my IMAC. I go to my system preferences select "sound" and "line in - Audio line in port". But when recording, it's still recording from the internal mic? How do I just record just from the external mic??? What am I doing wrong? I've read all the other questions regarding how to get the external mics to work, but it's still recording from the internal mic? Help?
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I never expected APPLE wouldn't make a mac that didn't have a proper mic jack?
It has a proper one, a good one, a professional one, not the toy that comes with most PCs. Apple has used line level analog audio input for years.
From Wikipedia;Line level is a term used to denote the strength of an audio signal used to transmit analog sound information between audio components such as CD and DVD players, TVs, audio amplifiers, and mixing consoles.
In contrast to line level, there are weaker audio signals, such as those from microphones and instrument pickups, and stronger signals, such as those used to drive headphones and loudspeakers. The strength of the various signals does not necessarily correlate with the output voltage of a device; it also depends on the source's output impedance, or the amount of current available to drive different loads.

  • Technical Question regarding TCP Ports

    Morning All
The Set up - 1xXP PC running BTNP and 1xWin7 Laptop running MSE
                       1xBTHHV2.0B
                       1xBTVision box (currently not connected)
I have posted elsewhere on here about strange results regarding attempts (via UDP ports) to connect to my PC and have been trying to stop this or even look into who, what and why. At this present time BTNP has been manually configured to report everything and I'm getting some interesting attempts. Anyway googling this, that and the other has sent me in the direction of TCP Ports.
Upon opening "netstat" via a command prompt on the PC it shows that 4 TCP Ports are currently "established" and 1 is showing "close_wait". All these refer to the localhost:**** which I guess is okay?
However, opening "netstat" on the Laptop shows 8 TCP Ports are currently "TIME_WAIT" (in the state section) and 1 refering to which IP the laptop is assigned with and the www IP address. It's the 8 I'm slightly concerned about. They refer to what I believe is the BT Vision server IP address (127.0.0.1). The same address is found on the BTV box.
Apparently, to block TCP connections the user needs to manually configure the router firewall which AFAIK can't be done on the BTHH2.0B.
    So here's the Q's
    1) Is it normal to have a computer TCP connection with what appears to be BT Vision?
    2) If not how do I block/close the TCP ports without using a router firewall that appear to be BT Vision?
    3) Why would the BTV IP address be dispalyed if the box has not been connected for some time?
None technical replies would be good

    @ Roger.
    Wow what a read!
Am I correct to assume that UDP transmissions are safe as they don't go anywhere as the firewall stops them? I'm still intrigued as to why various transmissions are attempted (ie. microconnect, BTVision, Binary Trojan maker etc etc etc).
Currently re reading yet again and will post regarding TCP...........
.............TCP has to make a connection? A packet is sent from A to B and back to A. It is then that data can be exchanged. A and B's serial numbers can also be exchanged. Then when they have a full 'duplex' connection, A and B can send data to the each other anytime they want. And all A has to do is just give the operating system some stuff to send?
That worries me or am I reading into this the wrong way?

  • Lenovo Thinkpad E530 - USB 3.0 Ports Not Working Code 10

Hi everyone, so I own a Lenovo E530 with Windows 7 and just earlier today I plugged in my optical mouse into it, about 10 minutes in, Windows gave me a "not enough power message" for my USB 3.0 ports on the left side and they just stopped working. I have 3 USB 3.0 ports on the left side of the laptop, and one USB 2.0 on the right which works just fine.
From there it gave me Code 10 for Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface in the Network Adapter section (which I was able to fix via a registry change) and now what is left to fix is the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller which I cannot seem to fix. I have tried the uninstall/reinstall processes, with Intel's own drivers and Lenovo drivers which were just older version of the Intel USB 3.0 drivers, over and over yet it is still stuck on Code 10, where it will not start.
I never really overused the USB ports either, aside from plugging in a portable USB fan and portable hard drive here and there, and a USB dongle for a wireless mouse and keyboard (Logitech all-in-ones), that is pretty much all I have done with it. I do not believe the ports are not bad or anything, although it may be a hardware problem, but all 3 USB ports still give power on my fan and external HDs when I plug it in, it is just that Windows does not recognize it and nothing happens when I plug something into. But on the other hand, the USB 2.0 port reads just fine and recognizes everything. I have also tried the Troubleshooter multiple times, but everytime it tries to reinstall I get the "Failed" message.
Here is a screenshot of what I am talking about.
    http://i.imgur.com/mKqWpFU.png
    http://i.imgur.com/RLkbyHY.png
I have tried reinstalling and uninstalling the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver for W7 using the ones listed on the drivers page through Lenovo and using the newest version fround on Intel's webpage as well. Having done these I still could not get it working, so I did a full reformat of the Hard Drive, from there I am able to get the USB 2.0 and 1 of the 3 USB 3.0 ports to work (the very top one above/left of the HDMI port) and recognize devices when I plug them into Windows. But this is working through not having the USB 3.0 Driver installed and just the basic one without having any updates/drivers installed on. Once I install the USB 3.0 Driver back it, it goes back to the original problem.
The problem still persists even though I have done multiple reformats, uninstall/reinstalls, updating to newest drivers and BIOS, etc. I have owned and still own a whole family of Lenovo laptops which still work perfectly fine, but this is the first time I have seen anything like this go wrong in a laptop. Is there anything else I can try to fix this problem? The laptop just went out of warranty a few months ago, and if I were to send it in and get it repaired would it cost me a lot?

    Hi,
    Can you try this
The Device You're missing drivers for (PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7814&SUBSYS_380217AA&REV_01) is definitely for AMD USB 3.0, this one's off from AMD WEbsite
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx#2
download the AMD Chipset Drivers see if that'll work.
Have you installed the energy management?
If not please install this as well, I'm thinking this is what the other device is for.

  • USB 3.0 ports not working in Pavilion G6 2144tx

I purchased my G6 in April of last year and connected up my external hard drive (which does have USB 3.0 support) to it. For the first couple of months, it worked perfectly. Though around September of last year it encountered a problem wherein the laptop itself wouldn't start. Upon handing it over to the HP service centre in my country, they said it was a motherboard issue.
After getting it back, my hard drive no longer responds when connected to any one of the two USB 3.0 ports available, but works fine when connected to the USB 2.0 port and even when connected to the USB 2.0 hub that I have attached to that port.
I have tried updating my USB drivers and after clicking "scan for hardware changes" it finds a device that needs a new driver. Upon trying to install the new driver, however, it encounters an error. It records the device as "Unknown Device" and places it under "Other Devices".
Here is a screenshot of what I described above:
I don't know what else I can do to resolve this. If it is a driver issue, I would appreciate it if you could direct me to the correct driver that I can use to fix this issue. I am currently experiencing very slow copy speeds between my computer and external drive (around 500KB/s to 2MB/s) and would very much like to go back to using my USB 3.0 port.
Thanks in advance for all the help.
    Regards
    Umar

Thank you for your response. I am tempted to believe a driver conflict is at fault, especially since Device Manager shows an unknown device. I believe you should commence troubleshooting by installing the correct drivers, based on the computer's current specifications. For more information on how to do this, please reference this HP document: Downloading or Updating Software and Drivers for HP Computers
If you are unable to resolve the issue, I would personally contact HP Phone Support. Since this defect occurred after the computer returned from servicing, they are responsible for it, and they will address the issue. However, this is assuming you are in warranty. If you do not have this information, you can locate it at this website: HP Warranty Check
You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide

  • Workaround for inability to scan on USB 3.0 port

I've got a late 2012 era Mac Mini (specifications here) that I'm trying to set up as a printing and scanner server for my Brother MFC-7340.
Long story short, I have discovered that scanning does not work when the MFC-7340 is plugged in to a USB 3.0 port. In this case, scanimage returns the following error:
scanimage: open of device brother3:bus4;dev2 failed: Invalid argument
and does not scan. This occurs on both my Mac Mini and my laptop (both running Arch) when plugged into a USB 3.0 port. When I plug the scanner in to a USB 2.0 port on my laptop, however, scanimage is successful.
I have found some mentions of this as a bug here and here, though unfortunately there is no mention of a solution beyond plugging the device in to a USB 2.0 port. However, this is not an option for my Mac Mini since all of its ports are USB 3.0.
As such, I am wondering whether there is any way to force a USB 3.0 port to function as a USB 2.0 port? Failing that, would anyone have any ideas of other possible workarounds? Note I have attempted all the possible fixes/workarounds listed in the first answer to this question on askubuntu that I was able to -- I didn't set "XHCI Pre-Boot mode", for example, since AFAIK Apple provides no mechanism for changing BIOS/UEFI options.
As a final note, I am fairly certain that I am not facing any fundamental hardware limitation that would prevent this setup, since I have been able to use the same scanner with the Mac Mini from inside OSX.

How would I test this out? Would blacklisting xhci-hcd cause ehci-hcd to be loaded automatically as its replacement?
EDIT: I blacklisted xhci-hcd, updated my initramfs and rebooted. xhci_hcd was gone from lsmod, and ehci_hcd had been loaded, so that all seems to have worked. However, now when I run scanimage, for example, I get
    # scanimage > out.pnm
    scanimage: no SANE devices found
and lsusb can no longer see the scanner (and for that matter can't see an external HDD I have plugged in either).

  • Question Regarding Mesh with 3702 and non AC ap´s

    Hello!
quick question regarding MESH deployments with 2 different sorts of AP´s: AC and non-AC modells: If my 3702i is my root AP´s, and 3602i my MAP - will AC still work in 80Mhz, or will I have to switch to 40mhz (and thus crippling (???) AC performance?)
Not 100% sure on this... I *think* it should still work for the normal 802.11n connection, but I´m not sure if the 80mhz channel width (needed??) for AC, will cause the non-ac 3602i to be stranded?
    Thanks alot for your insight!

Currently, my network DHCP server is a software based DHCP server. In reading over your post if I understood correctly it sounds like the managed switch would have its own hardware based DHCP server to assign IP addresses to those clients identified on the "external" VLAN. Did I understand that correctly or did misread something?
DHCP server will be software based, even though you defined it on your switch, it is DHCP service running on its OS.
I am configuring this setup for a small business application and will need to purchase a managed switch with 16 or 24 ports. Do you have any recommendations on a particular managed switch that will handle the VLAN configuration and include POE while keeping costs in mind.

  • Question regarding XI/PI and Idoc processing.

    Hi,
I'm learning XI/PI and I have a question regarding Idoc processing in PI.
We need to configure communication between our BW system and our PI system using Idocs.
The Idocs are sent from BW to our PI systems and are then sent back to the BW system, there are no third system involved. The idocs are only between PI and BW.
Our BW system is already connected with many other R3 systems by using WE20 / WE21 and RFC's and everything works perfectly.
While I configure this communication between BW and PI it seems that PI is passing the Idoc to the Idoc adapter, converts it to xml and tries to find a receiver for the particular Idoc. I see the error "NO_RECEIVER_CASE_ASYNC" in SXMB_MONI.
Is this a normal behaviour in PI ? Why is PI thinking that the Idoc needs to be sent to another system when it is infact for itself ??
    Thanks and regards
    Remi

    Hi
    for error "NO_RECEIVER_CASE_ASYNC" in SXMB_MONI.
This problem may occur due to one of following reasons, so check
1 service is active in message? transaction SICF and activate service sap/xi/engine (right click, activate)
2 Is the port 8001 defined in the services on the smicm under services?
3 Check the roles assign PIDIRUSER

  • Anker Powered USB Hub (7 port, usb 3.0) often won't light up (function) after waking Mavericks from sleep

My iMac is  27" (mid-2010) with 8 GB RAM. My only problem is that my new Anker Powered USB Hub (7 port, USB 3.0) often does not wake when computer does. In other words, the power lights remain off following waking the computer from sleep and I must unplug and replug the HUB. I called Anker and they told me that Mavericks has a new "energy saving power mode" that may turn off power to a USB hub. This is most annoying and I hope that Apple can update Mavericks power management to fix this USB issue. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've seen similar posts from D-Link USB hub owners. Perhaps if this "question" has a response trail, Apple will see it and create a fix.

Hopefully, Apple will monitor this issue and correct the USB power management issue. We'll see what happens with Yosemite.

No it does not. It predates USB 3.0 by quite a bit. You can add usb 3.0 ports with the expresscard slot and an add-in card.

Anybody an idea, what I could do about that?

The always on is not a USB 3.0, it is just a regular 2.0 port.

  • Forcing USB 3.0 port to act like USB 2.0 port?

Hello all! Firstly I would like to say that I am aware that USB 3.0 is backwards compatible, but that does not answer my question.
Long story short, I am attempting to use a logitech g27 controller through parallels, on windows 7, and it is giving me issues.
Based on the vast knowledge of the internet, I am under the impression that the USB 3.0 is causing compatibility issues, based on others peoples experiences.
Is there a way to explicitly make the USB 3.0 port a 2.0 port on my macbook air?
    Thanks!

I will definitely keep this in mind as a backup as I would prefer to not have to purchase anything else. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Our HP 1150us g7 has stopped recognizing our dual USB 2.0 Port. It is not listed to uninstall or update its' drivers. Only the one USB port works on the right side facing the notebook.
It is only 21 days out of warranty and I am told they can be replaced however it takes a huge amount of labor, then someone else told us it can not be exchanged only the entire Motherboard. I have found the exact part on sale so I believe it is replaceable.
Here is a link to order the part we believe can be replaced.

Does anyone know if it is replaceable or not?
We are sick about this we only had the notebook one year and for the warranty to run out only 21 days before this died we are disappointed with HP for not providing some assistance.

The link you provided is not the same model as yours. While it may work, I haven't verified it.
Have you performed any hardware troubleshooting on the unit yet?
