Question(s) about Mask Paths-Instructing a mask to follow an open mask path

Is it possible to instruct a closed mask to follow another open mask's path automatically?
IF so how please? See Pic.
I want Mask 2 the circle to follow mask 1 the "open path" from one end to the other over time. Without Manually KFraming each position. I'd rather do like 'text on a path' except using a mask shape instead of text. Animating via First or last Margin. Is that possible?

How come my Mask shape moves from it's centered position (where I placed it) and then when I use my Pan Behind Anchor Point tool to animate the layer's Anchor point below it, the mask then moves off the screen to accomidate the pan?
Instead of having the Layer underneath panning as desired while leaving my mask centered in my comp? I want the appearance that the picture is moving/tracking within the shape, while the shape stays put in the middle where I parked it.
I even tried doing at as an anchor point pan, K Burns style. The Mask shape still animates instead of staying "put" in the center of the Layer? See Pics please Start/End

Dave your instructions or work around are not clear to me.

Put the center of the mask at the solid's anchor point. <--the center of the eliptical on it's anchor point? The eliptical mask? Unclear.
Now highlight the open mask path, copy it and paste it into the solid's POSITION property. <--Unclear. There is only one mask path in your scenario where I have two in my question.
Adjust the resulting position keyframes to taste; they default to a 2-second move.
I think in other words it cannot be done having a shape mask follow an open mask path, that or you don't know, as I did not. I can use a solid and keyframe it manually. However I asked that in my opening statement.

Another question in the responses added another question, which I also have:

I am now running NoScript which I know blocks JavaScript, but it was happening before I started NoScript.
I hope someone can answer that question now.

That message from website may be triggered by other add-ons or by bad script on the website that throws that message.

My question is about the 'Restore Backup' option on iTunes (Not 'Restore iPhone'). So, if I click on Back Up Now, then 'Restore Backup', would that go through the process of erasing everything on my phone as new then restore whatever iTunes has backed up?

I do not want this to happen, as with previous experience iTunes doesn't restore a mirror of what the iPhone was when it was backed up as is the case with iCloud backups.
What I am trying to do is, as I've found a method on Youtube, there is an application where I can delete all the multimedia saved in my 'iMessages' so clear up some space. As doing that manually through the phone would take a lifetime. The method is to backup on iTunes, then using the backup created, importing that into the application then deleting the messages through that then restoring the phone using that amended backup.
So back to my question, would restoring through 'Restore Backup' just restore the backup internally or would it flush the entire phone and then restore the backup? And if it does so, what would be lost in the restore?

iCloud should overwrite your phone with the data stored in your account, preserving your newer data. However, to be sure I would go to Settings>iCloud and turn data syncing to Off before restoring the backup. Then, after restoring the backup, turn the data syncing back to on, and when prompted about Merging with iCloud, choose Don't Merge. This will ensure that the data in your iCloud account overwrites the data on your phone (which is your goal).
Also, you don't sync text messages with iCloud so you will end up losing your more recent messages when they are overwritten by the backup.

When uninstalling an older version of reader, I get an error message about transform paths

I tried to uninstall version 8.1.2, and I get an error message to verify that the specified transform paths are valid. Some body please help. I could use the 90mb of space it's taking up.
My system is a laptop, vista 32 bit. No security update issues are involved. I am running version 10, and simply want some memory back.

if you would insist so, i would say take up the ff courses:
1. Introduction to SQL/SQL*Plus
2. PL/SQL
3. Oracle Reports

4. Oracle Portal/Collaboration suite
5. etc.
and these will take you some time to accomplish.

How can I get my instructional text to display when I open the pdf?

I have some fields which I have set up which have help/instructions for completing the information required. This is a questionnaire. When I save it as a pdf, the instsructional text does not display. I would really appreciate if someone can tell me how to fix this.

Simply restore from your backup.
You do have Time Machine running, yes?

I opened System Profiler by launching it from Utilities.
It comes up with a different name to the admin name though. Maybe that's why it won't open from "About this Mac"?
For example, the computer's name when I set it up using the USB installer stick is "Harry Potter".
But the old MBA that I had was named "js".
When I install programs, it comes up with "Harry Potter", put in password.
However, when I look up the System Profiler information using Utilities, it comes up with "js's MacBook Air (2)".
Does that matter?
Is the name thing causing the problem with the "About This Mac" not opening?
I am really confused about all of this.
The information in the System Profiler is about the newer MBA.
Should I just not worry about this problem? And just open it up from Utilities if I need to look up System Profiler information?

I'm not sure what you mean by it making accessing files more complicated. I have both Pages 4.3 & Pages 5.1 icons in my Dock as well as Numbers 2.3 & Numbers 3.1. I continue to use the iWork '09 versions for my everyday needs. As long as the new versions are in your Applications folder & the '09 versions in the iWork '09 folder, Software Update will not have a problem updating them even if Apple should come out with a new update for the '09 versions.
Because I have moved the new versions to an external drive & renamed the apps because I want '09 to be the default apps, I do have to remember to move them back to my applications folder & restore the original names before updating. But since you like the new versions this "complication" doesn't apply to you.

Complex question about masks - help needed please

Hello folks,
new to this forum and new to After Effects. I hope you can help me achieve a particular animation.
The result I want is to move a pair of glasses across the frame and through the left lens of the glasses, the background image is made clearer.
I have 3 layers. The bottom layer has one image (the image in focus), the middle layer up has another image (the same image as the bottom layer but out of focus), the top layer has an image of a pair of glasses.
I want to, first of all, select the area within the left lens of the glasses and make this a mask and have it move when the glasses move across the frame.
Is there an easy way to select a complex area like you have in Photoshop?
I then want this mask to subtract the middle layer image to reveal the background layer.
The mask would move with the pair of glasses.
How do I make the mask apply to the middle layer to cut it out to reveal the bottom layer?

While you are reading the links Szalam gave you (I recommand you to read them all), here is how you could achieve this.
Create a new solid on top of your glasses, roughly the size of your lense (just a little bigger than the area you want to mask out).
Then use the pen tool to draw a mask with the shape to be used as a "hole" for your second layer. Be sure to have your solid layer selected before drawing the mask.
You will now a have a solid layer on top of your glasses with the shape of the lens. To make it follow your glasses, parent it to the glasses using the parent dropdown menu in the timeline, next to your layer's name.
Now in the stack, move your solid on top of your out of focus layer. Then select your out of focus layer, display the matte/mode column and in the matte dropdown select alpha (or alpha inverted). AE will then use your solid layer as a mask to cut out your out of focus layer.

Beginner question about masking

I am new to after effects and have created a simple small video that just has a laptop and a background. The laptop screen has fish swimming from the right side of the screen to the left and off the screen so it looks like they disappeared. I need to mask the laptop screen so I do not see the fish animations slide off the left hand side of the screen. How would I create the mask so it only shows whats going on within the laptop screen? Thanks in advance

Then you'll need to make the background for the fish transparent..... is it?
If yes, put the fish layer in-between the computer layer with the hole for the screen, and a duplicated computer layer with the mask mode set to Subtract.
