Question:SAP MaxDB

I would like to ask if is it normal that the Z Tables and some tables in SAP MaxDB doesn't contain any record?
Because after I install the SAP NetWeaver 7.01 ABAP Trial Version and write an SQL Statement(e.g select * from ZCUSTOMERS) I got a message "Statement Successfully Executed. No Result".. can you help me on this...

when you create a table, you also need to insert record until then you will get message as no records found.

Error while executing report RSSDBCHECKDBMRFC in se38 in sap for sap MaxDB

Hello experts,
Let me tell you i do not have more knowledge on SAP MaxDB, I am getting some back up issue .When i checked the report RSSDBCHECKDBMRFC in se38 i got following error.
ERROR: D:\sapdb\programs\pgm was not found
ERROR: Set the following path before all other paths in environment variable: D:\sapdb\clients\ECC\bin

Hello Deepak,
Let me confirm first. Under environmental variable "Path" previously there is default value ,then i have added java1.4.2 sdk path (c:\j2sdk1.4.2\bin) . then i can add the line D:\sapdb\clients\ECC\bin.
Or i need to add the line D:\sapdb\clients\ECC\bin before default value(i.e at the begining).
Please clarify i am little confused.
Could you please explain what is the need of this .

Connect to SAP MaxDB

Hey,
I've installed SAP MaxDB Version 7.7.07.33 64 bit, and I'm having some troubles to connect to the Database.
1- The first problem : When I open DBM Command Line Interface (dbmcli) he ask for a server name which I don't have.
2- The second one : When I use SQL Command Line Interface (sqlcli) and I try
dbmcli -d MYDATABASE-u DBADMIN,mypassword -uSQL DBM,hispassword
I get always this : * -10709: Connection failed (RTE:Database name is missing)
I checked my database name, who is : MYDATABASE
I don't know where the problem comes.
Do you have any ideas ?

How to configure sap maxdb client to connect to SAP ERP system (SAP HR)

I am currently installing live cache for SAP ERP HR application(Idoc), can anybody tell me the sequence to proceed to configure SAP livecache with SAP ERP system. i am doing following steps
1. Install SAP DB using installation MAXDB CDs
2. Install SAP Livecache and standalone server SCM 5.0 using SAP ERP master and Livecache dvds.
3. install Livecache client fromSAP ERP master and livecache dvds between SAP ERP and livecache server.
4. configure in LC10, tcode.
but when i press on livecache monitoring in LC10 it gives me following error.

i tried the said things and after that i am getting following error in DB59, first three steps are successful but 4 one is failing.

Problem accessing frontend for Trial:SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP 7.4 on SAP MaxDB

Hi all,
had to set up short timed a trial instance of SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP 7.4 on SAP MaxDB in Amazon Cloud
Installtion was pretty straightforward but now if have the problem of accessing the frontend via RDP.
Connecting via ssh works fine but when it comes to rdp it just says something like "rdp not activated or computer not reachable or down". Ping is also not working.
The instance is created as public.
Tried to reach it from my corporate network (ports opened), from home, from mobile broadband. Same result, ssh working, rdp not.
Any ideas?

Hi Ferdinand,
not every appliance in CAL comes with an Windows system that has the UI tools preinstalled. The system you are currently using comes with a Linux server only on which the NetWeaver ABAP and the MaxDB run. Here are a few hints which help to understand if RDP is available:
1) take a look at the default "Access Point" configuration. If Port 3389 (RDP) is not opened by default, then there is probably no RDP available
2) take a look at the number of virtual machines (instances) the solution details. If there is only one VM listed, it is the one with the server components (very likely not Windows).
3) Check if the connect button on the "INSTANCES" screen lists RDP (the connect button becomes visible after the solution has been started). If there is no option for RDP, then it is not available.
In a nutshell, for this particular solutions there is no Windows RDP available. Nevertheless, the user guides explains how to fetch and install SAPGUI to your client machine so that you are able to connect to the system.

ok brief but hopefully usefull answer to your post:
- if the database I/O generated by SQL statements alone brings the system to a grinding halt, then your storage system is undersized. How should it be able to handle additional I/O, e.g. for backups if it isn't capable to handle the standard I/O?
- the prefetching tasks are used to speed up large scan operations. So, the next thing to do here is to find statements that perform table scans and check whether or not these can be tuned to KEY or Index accesses
- As a workaround, I would propose to increase the value of ReadAheadTableThreshold to, say, 500, so that the prefetching is done only for really large scans.

SAP MaxDB and EclipseLink/JPA?

Folks;
is anyone out here using MaxDB along with EclipseLink JPA 2.0 implementation, especially as far as it concerns automatic table creation using predefined @Entity classes? So far, I mainly happened to see a whole load of different error messages but yet haven't found a way of getting things to work cleanly, like, at the moment:

Question about MaxDb config files

I have a problem where a database is taking 28 hours to backup.
While the db backup runs, the log backup will not.
I want to know if there is a way to get around that; either by specifying a unique set of configs so temp file names won't conflict and 2 backups can run simultaneously or some other way.

Let me recommend using the 'Database Analyser' for this. In an SAP environment, this tool autostarts and collects data every 15 minutes (default interval). The data itself is kept in one 'dban.prt' log file plus detailed info in various Excel style csv files.
If you have an SAP system nearbei, you could integrate the MaxDB you want to monitor via TA DB59 or use DB50/LC10, if MaxDB is running in an SAP system. Of course, you could also just look at the csv files directly, but they are much easier to use within the SAP world.
Please have a look at our FAQ note 1423935 for further details.
This means in regards to your specific question: Start the Database Analyzer (if not already active) and go to the 'DBAN_FILLING.csv' file. There you will find the filling levels for temporary and permanently data plus min and max values and averages...

SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP 7.4 on SAP MaxDB - default password

Hello colleagues,
I have deployed this app.server (see subject) on the AWS cloud but unfortunately I cannot log-in. I've tried all known default passwords for SAP* and DDIC with no result. The documentations says - "You specify the master password during instance creation in the SAP Cloud Appliance Library"... It didn't ask me to specify the password ((
Hence, I have a few questions:
- What's the default password and where should I change it;
- How to unlock blocked accounts in SAP instances (SAP* and DDIC are blocked due to lots of failed attempts);
- How I can access the file system (this VM is on Linux), so... Putty???

You can unlock them:
update <schemauser>.usr2 set uflag='0' where bname like 'username what you want to unlock' ;
You can use emergency SAP* user if you are totally lost with the passwords.
Like this:
update <schemauser>.usr2 set bname='SAPP*' where bname like 'SAP*' ;
and you need to change the parameter:
login/no_automatic_user_sapstar to value of '0'
If you do these steps you can logon with SAP* user and 'pass' password....
after you finished you should change back login/no_automatic_user_sapstar to value of '1' in the profile !

SAP MaxDB 7.7.07.16 - performance issue due to IOWait(R) task

We are running MaxDB 7.7.07.16 unicode in a non SAP environment (is basis for a web application).
Database Server has 4 Cpu's, 8 Gb RAM, operating system Debian-Linux 6.0.
We have some performance problems in not regular periods of time.
The performance problem occurs for a time frame between 3 and 15 minutes and blocks more or less the complete system.
After a long phase of checking and evaluating possible issues, we think that we are very near to the issue.
We identified the database tasks
- TblPrfC - Prefetch Table Coordinator:
- PrefPag - Prefetch Pages
having the current state "IO Wait (R)".
As long these tasks are in state "IO Wait (R)" the users (at the web application) gets awful slow respond times on their queries.
On 9th of April 2011 we changed the DB parameters:
- ReadAheadTableThreshold old 0 => new 128
But today we got the same performance problem again.
