Question Slide with video

Hi,  I'm trying to create a question slide that has 2 videos and then a queston to display after the user has watched both videos, however, the question displays at the beginning when the slide is viewed and stays showing.  There does not seem to be a Timing option to Appear After so many seconds.
Is there a way to do this

You are correct that you cannot time the captions and other elements on a quiz slide as you can with other slides.  If you must use a quiz slide, your better strategy is to place the videos on a slide before the quiz question and only progress to it after watching the videos.

  • Exporting a slide with video content

I started a slide show in keynote. A few of my slides have video content. I am trying to export my slides so that I can edit them in iMovie. It's harder than I thought. When I export it, the video content does not play because it exports a picture of the slides. How do I export my slides with video content so that it still plays when I bring it to iMovie. I already tried making that slide a Quicktime movie with no luck. Maybe I missed something in that process. Thanks for any help you can provide.

You need to export from Keynote as Quicktime using either Fixed timing (in which case you specify enough time per slide for all the builds to complete) or using Recorded timing.
You can read more about the different Quicktime Export options in the Keynote help menu: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Keynote/5.0/en/kyntc6c24df4.html
    Hope that helps.

  • Posting lots of slides with video slow playback to a halt

In our slide of about 50 slides, when we have one video slide, it plays ok, but each slide we add after, makes the captivate play slower and slower. In this case, we have about a dozen slides with video, and with all video slides in, the playback is not useable. Video is set to progressive video download and are only a few meg in size
How can we handles several slides with video?
    Thanks

This sounds like a bandwidth issue.
Do you encounter the same slow playback issue if you publish the course to your local PC and play the course from your hard drive?  If not, the issue isn't likely CPU-related.
If local playback is also slow, your CPU/RAM resources might be unable to keep up with decoding your video at it's current compression or size.  You might need to use smaller, lighter video.
If you want to see whether or not your issue is related to bandwidth limitations, download the Charles web debugging proxy software (http://www.charlesproxy.com/download/) and use this to watch the actual downloads in progress for the videos in your course.  If you see that Captivate is downloading more than one video at a time, this might explain why things start to bog down.  You might need to restructure your course so that each video is downloaded separately as the user comes to it.  At worst, tThis could require breaking your course into more modules.

  • Strange behaviour on question slides with a countdown timer!

    Hello Captivators,
I am facing a strange behaviour on question slides with a countdown timer. Whenever I place a countdown timer on a question slide, one of the options/answers disappear. What is going wrong here? Am I missing anythig in the settings?
I am using Captivate 8 (Trial Version).
Thank you for your support in advance.
    Greetings

Sorry for the double question. However, I see that there are 10 Captivate communities and I thought I can post my question in one or some of them. Anyway, I know now that it is "Not very friendly" to do that. Sorry again!

  • Keynote slides with video - not linking in Ibooks Author

    Hi
I have a problem with linking Keynote slides containing videos in Ibooks author. I am using the latest version of both programs on Yosemity (6.5.2 keynote, Ibooks Author 2.2 )
The keynotes is set up with ‘Links Only’ and it works perfectly in Keynote. In Ibooks author the ‘link only’ is not working and the slides just progresses to next one. Like the Presentation type was set to normal, whether or not I press the link or outside the link. The exact same keynote slides without the video doesn’t have this problem and links perfectly in Ibooks Author. The result is the same testing the Ibook directly on the Mac or on the Ipad Air (8.1.2)
To make sure about the video types I tried a number of different ones (different Mac/Ipad video conversion programs) all with the same result. The result is also the same whether it plays ‘on page’ or ‘full-screen’ in the Ibook. The videos all plays perfectly but the links are not working.
Saving the keynote to 09 seemed to solve the problem. I am new to Ibooks author …. And the whole Mac environment. But I am thinking it’s supposed to work without having to do this????
The same happened when I tested a linked keynote example from Lynda.com. ‘Ibooks essential training’.  Only in the 09 version it was working with the links, when the slides had videos. This example was off course also created in an earlier Keynote version.

This is a problem that I've reported both here and via bugreport.apple.com. However, I don't think that it has to do with screen resolution (retina/non-retina). Rather, I think it has to do with setting the widget to "full screen" where transport controls cannot be used and selecting a "Links Only" presentation.
I used simple forward and back arrows set (Control-click on object) to go to next slide or previous slide. What I found was that while this works as designed when played back in Keynote (OS X or iOS) but not in the Keynote widget. The links only  setting and these hyperlinks are totally ignored in the Keynote widget. Tapping anywhere went to the next slide. Tapping on the back arrow also went to the next slide,

In qt export, the video of slide 1 play from the start to the end and i can't click to go to next slide !!!
    Is it possible ?
    Thank.

Using Keynote version 6.3, there is no setting in QT export to manually advance.
The only choice is self - playing.

  • Advance to slide with video already playing

A client wants to be able to advance to a slide with the video already playing, this is for a live presentation, normally done by rolling in video from tape and using switcher to cross fade from text to moving video.
    Any solutions would be appreciated
    Thanks
mac pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to the discussions, Magneticone.
If all you want is the equivalent of a crossfade, it can be accomplished quite easily.
In Keynote, video can play behind other objects, and can be set to play immediately upon slide transition. These two features allow you to emulate a cross-fade.
Set up the first slide in its final state, and take a screenshot of it at its full-size (100%). Set the transition to the next slide as "None" (the default).
On the second slide, insert your video file, and set it to play immediately after the slide transition (this is the default). Now, place the screenshot on top of the video image, align it so that it exactly matches the first slide, and give it a Dissolve build out, to run immediately (or with whatever delay you want) after the slide transition.
What will happen is that the first slide with transition to the second "invisibly", since the same image is on both. Once the second slide appears, the video behind the screenshot will start playing, and the screenshot will then fade to reveal the already-playing video. The effect will be of a slide crossfading with video.
(As is often the case with Keynote, it is helpful not to first approach presentation problems in terms of actual "slides", but instead in terms of what the effect should be. Many time you can fool the audience into seeing more or fewer "slides" than are actually used in the presentation, and this can make achieving certain effects possible, or easier.)

  • Presenter Slides with Video Buffer forever

We have several Adobe Presenter presentations hosted on Rustici Cloud, and the problem we have is that each slide buffers for a second or two before playing.  But the real issue is that slides with mp4 video in the slide, appear to buffer forever.
These courses were originally authored in Presenter 7, and then recently opened and edited in Presenter 8 to make small changes.  It appears that once the course was published in Presenter 8, the buffering issues began.
Anyone ever experienced similar and any ideas for how to fix it?

Presenter 8 changed the default setting for controling pre-loading of flash content. In 7 and older, there was no limit on preloading content, unless you set it. In Presenter 8, the default is to disable the pre-loading for Flash content (SWF, FLV, MP4). This is what is likely causing each slide to buffer and the videos to have a long buffer. You can change this setting in Adobe Presenter > Settings > Quality and it will be the option in the image below. Un check it and then republish.

  • Captivate 7 question - slide with audio and light boxes not functioning properly

I am currently working a project and cannot figure something out.
I have a slide with 9 smartshape buttons on it.  When each button is clicked it brings up a lightbox.  Each lightbox has it's own close button. When the lightbox is closed by the user then the user immediately sees the 9 button screen and can choose another button to view and read, and so forth.  I have the lightboxes working fine.
Now, I added text to speech.  It is a mere 15 seconds in length, but it contains some important content and the directions.  I want the text to speech audio to stop playing if the user goes ahead and clicks on one of the 9 buttons which then brings up a lightbox.  I want the audio to then resume when they close the lightbox.  OK I have all of that working in a technical sense.
I've also tried this advanced action, but this stops the Audio entirely, however it does solve the autoadvance issue. so I am just trading issues.
I also have  "back and next" nav buttons on the slide, so the user must click one or the other to proceed off the slide.  Ok those worked.
Here is the issue.  Once I added the text to speech audio, at the end of 17.3 seconds, whatever lightbox the user may be viewing and they hit the close lightbox button, captivate automatically sends the user to the next slide.  No clicking "Next" or anything.  I can't figure out why this is occurring.
Prior to adding audio the slide worked as it should with the user being able to click each of the 9 buttons to "read some info" then close it and click another button on the slide, etc.  They could do this in any order they wanted.
When I added the audio, I set the advanced actions so if a user clicked on one of the buttons, the audio would stop playing until they came back to the main screen.  Ok no problem getting that to function - except it stops functioning at the end of 17.3 seconds.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks for any help!!!
    Michelle

Correct I have only 15 seconds of audio with the slide.  no audio with any of the light boxes.  Those are "read only" light boxes.
If the user clicks a shape button early, before the entire audio has played, I want the audio to stop, so the user can read the lightbox info, then as they click back to the slide away from the lightbox, I want the audio to resume playing - so they can hear the rest of the audio.  But,  this is where is doesn't function properly as when the audio finishes playing at 15 seconds.  The next shape button the user clicks on to shows the lightbox, but when they click to close the lightbox, the lightbox closes then sends the user to the next slide.  They haven't had a chance to view any of the other shape buttons and the information found in those corresponding light boxes.
    I hope this clarifies.
    Any thoughts?

  • Question Slide Buttons

I have an assessment that I created that uses a combines
question slides with interactive slides. I would like all of the
slides to uniform. The question slides were automatically created
with buttons to Back, Skip and Submit. These slides also added a
review area and a text box with question 1 of 15. I would like to
add these items to the interactive slides, but the program does not
allow these items to be copied. Can these items be added to a slide
not created as a question slide? If so, how is this done?

    Hi Carol
Taking your questions one by one:
-- You can change the standard quiz question buttons (Clear,
Back, Next, and Submit) by double-clicking them and changing the
button settings. This enables you, for example, to change them to
Image buttons (as in Rick's demo).
-- You can't remove the navigation (defined on the Options
tab in the Question properties dialog) from the Success and Failure
captions -- it is built in
-- You can't add your own custom navigation buttons to quiz
questions using buttons or click boxes -- these options are greyed
out on question slides -- so you have to make use of the regular
    quiz question buttons
-- The difference between the Skip (sometimes labelled Next)
button and the Submit button is that it navigates directly to the
next slide without submitting an answer to the current slide. When
the button is labelled Next, users often click this button in error
without realizing that they have failed to submit their selection
    as an answer.
-- I'm afraid I have no experience of the blue asterisks
resulting from the hot spot Quiz slides. I'd be interested in what
others have to say about this issue.

    -Matthew

  • On Exit action possible on a question slide?

I'm using Captivate 6.  My project has branching that occurs "on success" for some question slides, but if the user skips the question (which is allowed in this case) the branching doesn't happen.  On a regular slide there is an On Exit option to initiate branching, but that dropdown is greyed out on my question slide.  How can I initiate branching on a question slide if the question is skipped?
    Thanks,
    Glenn
p.s. My first thought just now was to insert a regular slide immediately after the question slide with On Exit set on that slide to branch immediately to the correct location.  However, that adds an extra slide and maybe there's a better way?

    Hello,
On Exit action has never been possible for question slides. Reason is that when the user has accomplished the two-step process for asnwering a question (1. Submit, 2. Click on slide or Press Y) the actions defined On Succes/Last Attempt for that question will be executed. That is embedded in the question slides. This is of course not the case for other slides. But even there On Exit events must be handled with care because they will only be done if the last frame of the slide is visited.

  • How do I get my project with video onto my website?

I just want to be able to upload my project, which is a mixture of slides with video. There seems to be multiple ways to upload, but I don't know which method to use over another and while I've tried doing so the videos don't work.
So I tried again and tried to link my videos that I currently host on Amazon S3 into my project, but it won't let me do that.  Is there a way to do that? If I can't use Amazon S3, where should I host my videos?  What am I doing wrong??
    I'm using Captivate 7 (32 bit)
I've slides with audio added and videos embedded as a video object.
Much of Captivate is very easy and intuitive to create projects, but I want to get this up online.
Maybe I'm completely missing the point and it's really easy, but I'm now so confused I don't know what to do.
A simple guide to uploading a project would be very helpful.
    Thanks

Have you tried bouncing yet? Underneath your Main Stereo Outs there is a little button for Bouncing. Hit that and a menue will open. Choose the format you want to bounce (44.1/16 Bit perhaps) and set the beginning and end point of your Song. If you setup a cycle for the whole length of the Song it will automatically take the Locators as the the Bounce In and Out Points. There is also the option "add to iTunes Library" in that menue, so choose that and later burn a CD from your iTunes library.

  • Slides with graphics slow to display

In CP7 I have multiple choice questions slides with graphics in it, when I move to the next slide there is a hesitation of several seconds before the next slide is displayed. On slides with NO graphics the next slide is displayed almost instantaneously.  Any help?

It could be the quiz timeline that is causing the delay.
Quiz slides pause on enter, once you 'click anywhere or press y to continue' (after feedback caption if you have one) captivate unpauses the slide and contunues playing the timeline, then changes slide.
    Example:
If the quiz slide length is 10 seconds and is set to pause at 2secs, and your image is displayed for 10 secs in your timeline, when you  'click or press y to continue', captivate will play the remaining 8 seconds and then change slide.
So make sure that your quiz slide pause, and your image is the same length. (or alternatively set the slide to something like 3 secs and make sure you set to pause after 2.9 secs, that way it will change straight away once you click to continue)
E.g. make sure its like this:

  • Certificate Widget and Random Question Slides

I am in the process of evaluating Captivate 4. Twice now I have had an issue with using the random question slides with the certificate widget. In both cases I converted a Captivate 3 course in which the random question slides and corollary question pools had worked as they should. In both, I successfully added the certificate widget to the new course (Captivate 4) following the instructions in help.
In the first course, only one question pool would work. The others simply showed up as a blank slide. I was able to fix that by merging all the questions into the one working question pool. Wasn't the way I had wanted to randomize the questions, but it allowed me to publish the course. The certificate widget did work.
In the second course, none of the questions pools are working and the published version of the course skips right past the random questions that had been interspersed after each topic area. One again, this course had worked just fine in Captivate 3 and with Captivate 4, without the certificate widget. I do not wish to combine all the questions into one question pool. As I noted, I published the course without the widget and the questions worked just fine.
This leads me to believe that I am doing (or not doing) something when I include the widget that is causing the problem. I can't imagine what that would be, but the fact that no one else seems to have posted this issue makes me think it is something I'm doing.
I am not using an LMS. I'm publishing to .html file that resides on our LAN.
    I hope someone can help!
    Thanks!
    Susan

    Hi Peter,
A number of users (myself included) have encountered issues with the random question slide feature - some of which is due to browser cacheing. If you can spare the time please use the web address I have included below to report this issue to the Adobe Captivate team.

  • Matching Question Slides

    Help
I am creating a matching questions slide with 6 selections.
Everytime I try to drag the last selection a box (similar to the
    submit box) appears.

Not enough information, my friend, though I appreciate the
offer of a beer. What might be "similar to the submit box"? Does it
have text on it? What does it say? Where does it appear? - in the
air above the monitor? - in the leaves in a teacup? Okay, I'm
really just kidding, as you can tell ... but you will have to throw
us a bone and try to better describe your problem.
Based on what you said here, the only thing that comes to
mind is to go back and edit the "Matching" question slide to make
sure you have at least one match on the right side for each on the
left side. Not two, not zero, just a single one for each.

screen name. Is your real name Icarus? Just wondered...
