Question Slide won't export to Flash CS4 (Captivate 4)

I'm using Captivate 4 and Flash CS4 in Windows.  I have built a short and simple 5-question quiz in Captivate, and I need to export it to Flash CS4.
I have tried both opening the .cp file onto a new Flash stage, and exporting to Flash from inside Captivate.  Sometimes, Flash crashes.  Mostly, I get this error:
The following elements in your project have not been converted.  They are not supported by this importer.
Question Slide
Since I'm basically using Captivate 4 as a quiz generator for this project, this is definitely a showstopper.  Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
There is no suport for quzzing for "Export to Flash" feature in Captivate 4.
You can either publish the quiz as a SWF and add it into flash or use learning interactions which you get as templates in flash for ELearning Suite.

  • Captivate 4 export to Flash CS4

    Hi,
I am encountering a few problems with Adobe Captivate 4:
    - In the previously version it was possible to export a project into different smaller swf files. Is this also possible in Captivate 4?
    - I am trying to export my project to Flash CS4 but I get the following error:
The following elements in your project have not been converted. They are not supported by this importer.
         508 Compilance
After that I won't be able to see the mousemovents and hint boxes.
    - I am not able to play the swf file in internet explorer on windows XP machines. In the previous version it was possible to safe the skin as bitmap, that worked in windows XP. Is this also possible in Captivate 4?
Can somebody help me with one of these problems?

Hello, I'm not able to answer all of your question, but will give it a try:
What do you mean by 'exporting to several small swf's'? I do not know this functionality, have been using CP since version 1. Perhaps you are talking about the splitting up when having FMR recordings: every FMR would end up in a different SWF in CP3. This has been removed in CP4, but if you want really to have the files separated, you can activate 'Externalize resources, part FMR SWF' in the Project, Preferences, Publish settings. You can also externalise skin, widgets  and animations.
508 Compliance has something with accessibility options. Here I'm not sure at all, why there are problems with exporting to Flash CS4.
Problem with playing CP-movies can be due to Flash Security Settings or to the Flash Player installed compared with the Publish settings (for which Player?).
I believe that BMP has been abandoned for playbars because of lower quality. You have to use a playbar, could use the TOC (instead or in combination with the playbar) or have your buttons on the slides (some of the widgets perhaps).
Perhaps someone else could complete this answer,

  • Export to Flash CS4

I have an interaction built in CP and it runs pretty well. However, when I exported it to Flash CS4, I lost all the interactions (it became a simply linear play)and got a big bunch of errors while previewing it.
If files exported to Flash from Captivate can not be edited in Flash, what's the purpose of providing this exporting feature then?
    Is this a bug?
Anyone has experience with attempt to edit the actionscript in Flash after exporting the CP file to Flash CS3 or 4?
    Thanks a lot.

Sounds like it might be locked to Flash CS3. Captivate 3 does
    not know
anything about Flash CS4, since it was released a long time
    after Captivate
    3.

  • Captivate 4 not exporting to Flash CS4 correctly

When I export from Captivate 4 to Flash CS4 it doesn't place the imported objects on their own timeline. Instead, it places each object into a movie symbol, which has its own timeline. The problem is that when I save it as a .swf in Flash and then I open it in After Effects none of the highlight boxes are visible.
As you know, After Effects does not see Flash symbols that are buried below the main timeline.
I opened up a project I worked on a year ago (with a different computer) and the Flash files had the exported Captivate items on the main timeline with the object on its own layer. Those files work fine in After Effects.
Can anyone tell me if they are having the same export issue with Captivate 4 not exporting its elements in Flash on the main timeline (as seen in the help file: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Captivate/4.0/Using/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119e9582981-7fff. html)?
    Thanks!

I found the solution here (http://labnol.blogspot.com/2004/09/export-captivate-movie-to-macromedia.html). I'll reprint the steps here:
    1. Close Flash CS4 if it is open.
    2. Open Windows Explorer.
    3. Navigate to:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Captivate
    4. Copy the RDMFISTUB.dll file.
    5. Navigate to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash CS4\en\Configuration
Note: The 'Local Settings' folder by default is hidden. If you are unable to locate the 'Local Settings' folder you can unhide it by opening Windows Explorer, select Tools > Folder Options > View, and select the option to 'Show hidden files and folders'.
    6. Create a new folder called Importers. Your final path should look like this:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash 8\en\Configuration\Importers
    7. Paste the RDMFISTUB.dll into the Importers folder.
    8. Open Flash CS4.
    9. Create a New Flash Document. Save the document (or Flash may freeze when importing)
    10. Select File > Import > Import to Stage.
    11. Browse to and select the CP file.
    12. Click OK.
Here is a comparison picture of the results. Without the steps above the imported Captivate assets will reside inside of a movie symbol (one for each slide). This is labeled "incorrect" in the image. I want each asset on a new layer in the root timeline. This is labeled "correct" in the image.
I want to go from Captivate to Flash to After Effects (because Captivate generated Flash files are unreadable in After Effects). For full disclosure, I used Captivate 3 in the steps above, but I hope this is a solution for Captivate 4 as well (I decided to stick with Captivate 3 because it worked in a project I used a year ago).

  • Won't export to Flash MX 2004

This is the message I get when I export:
"To export a Captivate movie to Flash, you should have
    Macromedia Flash 2004 installed."
I do have Macromedia Flash 2004 installed. In fact I removed
Flash 8 from my machine and restarted just so there would be no
    misdirection.
Does anyone have any idea what can fix this?
Frankly, I am ready to give up on Captivate for good. I have
been twisting myself over backwards for two months to get Captivate
to work as a robust e-learning tool. It could be that I am just
asking too much of this program.
Still, it is supposed to export to Flash MX 2004 and it's
    not. Any ideas?

    Hi naimahav
Frankly, I am ready to give up on Captivate for good
I'm not sure what category you fall into here, but it's not
uncommon to see people that are pretty familiar with Flash view
Captivate as some "nifty Flash add in". If this is your category,
it's not surprising you are frustrated. Even though Captivate can
produce .SWF output, it was never intended at any point to compete
with Flash. It has a totally different purpose.
I guess the larger question here is, what are you wanting to
accomplish that you feel Captivate cannot do for you and you feel
the need to resort to bringing it into Flash?
Oh, I suppose while I'm here I should give you a link to a
    TechNote regarding the message.

  • Full-slide hyperlinks after exporting to Flash

I have created a simple Keynote presentation (an image, some text, and then a transition to the next image/text slide) that I want to work as a Flash movie with hyperlinks. I want the entire slide to be a hyperlink, but can only get it to work on the text. (In other words, I want the viewer to be able to click anywhere on any slide during the presentation and be taken to a Web site for more information.)
I can make the images hyperlinks and get them to work in Keynote, but when I export to Flash, it does not retain the hyperlinks. If I just make the text hyperlinks, they stay. Still, I don't want the viewer to have to click on the text -- just anywhere in the video.
I believe the problem may be related to the automatic builds and transitions I have set up in Keynote, as a simple one-slide presentation with one image enabled as a hyperlink works just fine when viewed as a Flash video. But I need to keep the transitions.
I am viewing the Flash videos in Safari and Mozilla.
Does anybody know what is causing this?
    Thanks for your help,
    Cavan
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   iLife '05, Keynote 2.0.2

I just tested t his in Keynote 3 and it works fine. The only problem with FULL SLIDE links is you can't make it go to slide 2 without adding some sort of button ON TOP of the full slide link. Also, in my case at least, the Flash plug-in in Safari forced me to change my security settings to allow a flash movie to open a web page. Once I did that and restarted Safari, clicking my first slide opens the Apple page right in the same browser window as the flash movie. Opening the flash in the Stand alone Flash 8 player opens safari, then a new window with my web page.

  • One Slide Won't Export to iDVD

I have a Keynote Presentation that I made, from scratch, in Keynote. I used the Record feature to add narration. However, when I "Send to iDVD" or even simply "Export to Quicktime," the second slide will not export. The audio that is supposed to accompany the second slide plays during the third slide and so forth.
    Any ideas?

I don't have an answer but you are not alone... this is one of the problems I ran into exporting keynote presentations with narration.. it skipped the video but played the audio... I'm a newbe to Keynote but have a lot experience with other packages. The product doesn't live up to it's billing.

  • Exporting from Flash cs4

I should know this i suppose but is it possible to export a flash animation (fla/flv) and make it into a quicktime movie that works???
I know its possible, sort of because i did it but the quicktime was really stretched out and didnt work great. There were no settings or preview of what the output was going to look like so it was a mess.
Anyone know how? if its possible?

Best method would be screen recording software.
    I use SnapzX.

  • Exporting a flash CS4 movie to Quicktime

    Greetings:
I am exporting a flash movie to quicktime format. It exports but then does not save the blue progress bar goes to the end and then just stays there. It never completes. I have to stop in order to exit the export. I have tried all kinds of work arounds and problem solving to no avail. If anyone can help email me at [email protected]

Actually there is no QuickTime video format, rather there are video formats that the Quicktime video player will display... including .mov and .m4v files.
And as mentioned, its dang near impossible to display the video directly in the email itself. I'd say the best you could do is to provide a LINK to an HTML page. So create that page with just the video in one single <div> container.
And since you want to use a QT format... why would you want to forsake all the Windows users that may not have the QT browser pluggin???? Why do you think Flash is so successful and popular??
So how about this as an option... use the .m4v format (the iProducts version of the mp4) and use a video player that will play that in both iProducts and regular Windows browsers as well??
    http://www.longtailvideo.com/players
Sample of .m4v video that plays in IE as well as iProducts:
    http://exploreolympics.com/reports/?p=3499
Test the videos on both Windows IE and iProducts... the player does a GREAT job.
I used QuickTime Pro and "Export for Web" to convert the video.... and am VERY happy with results.
    Best wishes,

  • General Question About common Instance Names in Flash CS4 (AS3)

I tried something interesting recently. I had code effecting an object with the instance name : object_mc.
Now I added another object and gave it the same instance name.
The result was, that the code only effected the most recent added object (no error).
Is there a way in flash to have multiple objects with the same instance name all being affected by one piece of code?
~ Thanks for any thoughts, advice or facts. ~

Advice: avoid it... if you want to control different instances, give them different instance names.
It depends on what you mean by "one piece of code".  Directly using the instance name to target the movieclips will work as you have seen already... Last one added gets the attention.
To use the instance name to take action is doable more along the lines of testing each movie to see if it has the name, but still, you would have to target each using a different means.
For the piece of code below I have some number of objects on the stage and I test to see if they have an instance name assigned (object_mc) that is shared by some of them, and I am able to move them if they do, but I cannot use the instance name to target each of them for action... in this case I use the getChildAt method.
    for(var i=0; i<this.numChildren; i++){
    if(this.getChildAt(i).name == "object_mc"){
      this.getChildAt(i).x += 200;
object_mc.x += 25;  // only moves the last object added

  • Flash CS4 won't export to .mov PLEASE HELP ME!!

Like the title says, i've been trying to export my .fla as a .mov from the Export>Export Movie option in the File menu. It will start exporting but once the progress meter gets to the end it just stops and never finishes.
I don't think it has anything to do with:
    A: multiple scenes
B: actionscript directing to each scene
    C: movieclips
since I was doing the exact same thing in CS3 without a problem.
What i'm doing now in CS4 that I wasn't in the CS3 version:
    A: Motion tweens
B: importing .ai files to my library
C: using symbols created for flash in illustrator from imported .ai files.

Thank you Zombie. Specifying the length helped me export as a quicktime movie.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's a rubbish piece of coding in Flash CS4 that doesn't let you export a movie over 1 minute long without specifying the length of movie.
Ridiculous really. I expect this could be fixed in seconds by Adobe, but instead I'm left trawling the internet for hours wasting budget.

  • Flash CS4 - Slide presentation - instance name question

Is it possible to rename slides dynamically in a Flash presentation that is created using the Flash Slide Presentation template in Flash CS4. So, if I have a presentation with 50 slides and they are named 001 to 050 and I need to insert a slide between slide 010 and 011 is there a way to have Flash renumber them or do I have to just manually rename.

You might do better to use an array to manage the ordering of things--storing references to the slides in the array.  That way you don't have to be chasing names to make them follow some scheme.  You can still use names to help define where things go brain-wise, but having them listed in an array allows you to slip in new things without having to rename anything... just use the array/index to target the objects rather than the actual names.

  • A puzzled export question of Flash CS4

    I have a picture A and picture B,A is 100pix*50pix,B is
20pix*80pix,then I set document size is 100pix*50pix,and put
picture A as background, then I put picture B at the right of
picture A,and make B move from bottom to top,I make preview,it runs
well,I can see picture B move from bottom to top at the right of
picture A and the docuemnt is 100pix*50pix.I only see the area of
100pix*50pix,the part of picture B out of 100pix*50pix is not
seen,it is what I wanted. But when I export this swf,and open this
swf with IE,I find that I can see the part of picture B out of
100pix*50pix,Why? Where is wrong? I use flash cs4.

is, this panel is called "Snippets".

  • Unable to export from Captivate 4 to Flash CS4

    Hello everyone!
I am attempting to export a captivate project over to flash CS4.  However when it goes from captivate over to flash the result is basically a slide show. It does not show any of the animations that are present in Captivate. I also keep recieving an error message.
I have searched for how to solve this problem for quite a while now and so far have come up with nothing.
This is the error message that flash gives me:
The following elements in your project have not been converted. They are not supported by this importer.
    508 Compliance
A swf animation slide has been imported. The following files must be made available at publish time:
    Project01_slide_22_0.swf
    DefaultPreloader.swf
Please make sure you publish the project to “C:\Documents and Settings\jmillard\Desktop.” Saving the project to this directory will ensure that test project will work with the swf animation slides.
Unfortunately I am on a tight schedule to get this project done and the Captivate 4 and Flash CS4 I am using are both 30 day trials, so I am in quite a hurry.
If you could please help me I'd greately appreciate it!

When you click on <Send Book to Blurb> a dialog should come up that asks for your ID and password for your Blurb account. I don't know if Blurb ships to Norway - you probably can find out at the Blurb website. But I don't think that this is the problem here since you also cannot export a PDF or JPGs.
I don't know of any specifics why this is not possible for you but it's worth trying to replace the Preference File.
This file can go "funny" and is then responsible for all kinds of strange behavior of Lr. The remedy is replacing the Preference File.
BTW: Re-installing Lr or updating / upgrading Lr does not replace the Preference File since it is designed to "survive" upgrades.
See here for where to find the Preference file for your OS: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroo m-4.html

  • Exporting to Flash Question.

My client created individual Captivate demos. I would like to
import them into flash and place them on a custom background with
logo as well as build a flash menu to jump from Captivate section
    to section.
I'm wondering if when exporting a file to flash then opening
up in the Flash environment how will Flash build/ display the
content on the timeline, how much can I edit it and will it publish
out of Flash and display fine? Is there anything from Captivate
that will get lost in this process such as audio or playback
quality, etc.... I would try this myself but I'm on a Mac, our PC
has the Captivate demo with no flash (I believe you need both
programs in order to have the export option available) and I don't
want to purchase flash for this computer if it won't do what I need
    it to.
    Hope someone can help,
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hello Jason,
Please find below the current Captivate 2 Export limitations:
508 compliance: At this time none of
the 508 compliance extensions export to Flash. If this is a
critical aspect of your project, you may want to consider other
options to address all of your accessibility requirements in Adobe
    Captivate.
    Interface skin: Skins are not
exported through the Flash export function. This means that if your
project uses the new Adobe Captivate 2 menu feature of skins, you
must manually recreate that functionality in the Flash
    environment.
    Navigation bar: Adobe Captivate
currently does not export the navigation bar used in the interface
skin. If you use this asset in your project, you must manually
create or add it to your Flash project.
    Advanced compression: Advanced
compression occurs specifically as part of the Adobe Captivate
    publish process.
    Slide transitions: Transitions added
to slides are not exported to the Flash environment. If you prefer
to use transitions, you must rebuild the slide-level transitions in
    the Flash development environment.
    Real-time synchronization: Adobe
Captivate does not export items recorded using the "real-time"
option to the Flash environment. Although the objects exist, the
export process does not retain the timings.
You can learn more about exporting to Flash by reading the
excellent article by Scott Young -

    your Captivate project to Flash
