Hello,
Here's my enduring problem with Adobe FlashPlayer 11,6,602,168:
Once installed it does work wonderfully BUT when I will restart my computer next time, it will typically prevent Firefox from getting on line. Unless I desinstall Flash Player first!
So I have to desinstall and then re install at each session!
Neither my e-tech friends at my company have been able to offer a way out of this.My home computer is a TOSHIBA PORTEGE R830-10U and I use WINDOWS7 -
Is this a turf war between Adobe and Firefox?

what exactly is the piece of software that you're looking to install? system mechanic?
it's not the most graceful solution to your issue, but what if you gave up with system mechanic and moved to a different software alternative? ccleaner/defraggler/recuva is a great suite by piriform, and they're all free. other programs like tweak (XP, VI, or -7) can most likely supplment the functionality of the software that you're having install issues with.
google around for more because i'm positive they're out there.

First of all, in order to verify whether the 7.5.3 system software files are of the type earlier downloadable from Apple (with one large image file split onto floppy-sized segments), could you confirm that the first of the eighteen files has a file name with ".smi" at the end (before .bin or .hqx), and that the remaining seventeen files each include ".part"? The US version had totally nineteen files (one. smi and eighteen .part), but as I indicated above, this was different depending on language version.
If the PowerBook 150 is empty (without an operating system), you will need a startup floppy. Do you have access to a Disk Tools floppy for the PB 150? A Network Access Disk 7.5 floppy would be useful under all circumstances, and can be used as an alternative startup disk (and the system folder could be copied to the hard disk, and would then act as a temporary system). The problem today is that Apple's older software downloads list, which contained the Network Access Disk 7.5, does not appear to be available any more.
If you have the NAD 7.5 file already, the normal way of creating a bootable floppy was via a utility called Disk Copy (on another Macintosh computer with a built-in floppy drive). Disk Copy 6.3.3 can still be downloaded (https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1262). The Make a Floppy command under the Utilities menu is used to create properly sector-copied floppy disks. Please note that the Disk Copy utility is not needed or used to mount a self-mounting image (.smi).
There were special methods allowing an NAD 7.5 floppy to be made through a Windows PC as well (using a Windows version of StuffIt/Aladdin Expander and a utility such as WinImage).
It is also possible to obtain a version of StuffIt Expander for the PB 150 through a PC (but the PowerBook would need at least a temporary operating system first). With access to an older Windows PC (capable of running a DOS program) with a floppy drive, you may want to try the following: Prepare an empty PC-formatted 1.44 MB diskette via FORMAT A: in DOS or the "full" formatting option under Windows. Download the MACDISK.EXE file from http://rrzs42.uni-regensburg.de/Macintosh/files/macftp.html . Run this MACDISK.EXE (DOS) program on the Windows PC. Follow the instructions on screen. The result will be a Mac-formatted (sic!) floppy that could be moved to and used with the PB 150. This floppy contains a StuffIt Expander installer. Once installed, drag downloaded .bin files onto the StuffIt Expander program icon to decode them.

How to reset your Apple ID password.
Go to iforgot.apple.com and type in your Apple ID, then click 'Next'.
Verify your date of birth, then click 'Next'.

Can someone please explain why the ability to be able to serialise an object and then de-serialise it, has such a vital role in the building of Java based distributed software systems.

Serialization allows you to create 'persistent objects' A serialised object can be written to a persistent store - such as a hard drive - and restored at a later stage.

This memo is to announce the development of a new plant- wide software system. We are currently building a data warehouse that will contain all plant manufacturing data. The program is referred to as the "Manufacturing Information Access Software System" (MIASS).
Next Monday at 9:00 there will be a meeting in which I will show MIASS. We will continue to hold demonstrations throughout the month so that all employees will have an opportunity to get a good look at MIASS.
As for the status of the implementation of the program, I have not addressed the networking aspects so currently only one person can be in MIASS at a time. This should change as MIASS expands.
Several people are using the program already and have come to depend on it. Just this morning I walked into a subordinate's office and was not surprised to find that he had his nose buried in MIASS. I've noticed that some of the less technical personnel are somewhat afraid of MIASS. Just last week, when asked to enter some information into the program, I had a secretary say to me "I'm a little nervous, I've never put anything in MIASS before." I volunteered to help her through her first time and when we were through she admitted that it was relatively painless and she was actually looking forward to doing it again. She went so far as to say that after using SAP and Oracle, she was ready to kiss MIASS.
I know there are concerns over the virus that was found in MIASS upon initial installation, but I am pleased to say the virus has been eliminated and we were able to save MIASS. In the future, however, protection will be required prior to entering MIASS.
We planned this database to encompass all information associated with the business. So as you begin using the program, feel free to put anything you want into MIASS. As MIASS grows larger, we envision a time when it will be commonplace to walk by an office and see a manager hand a paper to an employee and say "Here, stick this in MIASS."
This program has already demonstrated great benefit to the company during recent OSHA and EPA audits. After requesting certain historical data the agency representatives were amazed at how quickly we provided the information. When asked how the numbers could be retrieved so rapidly our Environmental Manager proudly stated "Simple, I just pulled them out of MIASS".

Everyone has a MIASS...
The trick is to validate all input, encode all output and regularly apply patches from the software vendors

Problem\question about System.in and DataInputStream

The class uses a Student object -attributes are name\String, id\int and Grades (Grade class has grade obtained\int and a comment from the teacher\String).
My questions are: (as bolded in the code)
1) at "g = dis.readInt()" I have to press Enter 3 times to finish the reading (one after entering a single int and then just 2 times Enter). Should I add bellow this line "System.in.read()" to clear the newline\return character?! What exactly does "System.in.read()" clears? After leaving the method readInt() the variable g has an enormous value... like 9 digits... why? I also tried "g = (int)dis.readInt()" but the results are the same... I want to read an int from keyboard, but using DataInputStream, not with System.in.read()
2) at this line the program never ends, it tries continuously to read characters... no matter what I enter it does not complete... I want to read a String from keyboard, but again using DataInputStream...

Note that InputStream.read() only reads the next byte of data. If your user had input something that required multiple bytes to represent, you would not have read all of it.
Fun Fact: Even if you had used Scanner.nextInt() to get your integer from the console, you still need to do a .nextLine() as .nextInt() only reads up to the newline and does not consume it.

Online Voting Software/Systems

Hi all,
I'm not entirely sure whether this is the right board for this question but of all boards in the arch forums it seems most appropriate to me.
I am looking for an online voting software or system, preferably one that runs on Linux (but much of it might be php/python/perl software running with apache and the appropriate script engine and therefore system independent anyway). All a google search turned up for me was a list of software http://www.linuxlinks.com/Web/Portal/Voting/ which however seems somewhat outdated (most of the projects seem to be dead with most recent versions from 2007 or 2004 or 2001; some of the links are broken) and some scholarly papers on the topic.
Does anyone know a more up to date list of such software or have a good specific suggestion.
(The purpose for which I need it is to set up a secret and secure, thus preferably with cryptographic keys, voting software for a small or rather small organization. It's therefore neither reasonable to try to buy commercial software nor to try to develop such a software so I tried to come up with a good suggestion but failed so far.)

I want to calibrate my monitor. What software (system)??

I have used the "internal" system for calibrating the monitor on my iMac and MacBook Air. I find using the visual cues on the advanced method difficult to discern. Is there a better way? I have heard of Colormonki and XRite i1. some of these use spectrophotometers. Is that critical?
recommedations for software only vs software/hardware methods?

If you require accurate color for colormanaged workflow etc. there are no alternative to hardware calibration.
Rule of thumb is that the more expensive devices offer better accuracy and durability.
Avoid devices that use gelatine filters like Eye One Display 2. They degrade over time, usally resulting in red-shift on the calibrated monitor.
I use a Xrite DTP94, it uses glass filters.

Annoying Desktop Software system error

Hope someone can help me. I am running Desktop Software 7.1.0.41 and Windows 7. Everytime I open the program, I get a dialog box that won't go away. I close it and it pops right back again and again. Here's what it says:
"Rim.Transcoder.exe - System Error. The program can't start because CoreMultiMedia.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
Admittedly, I have no clue what this supposedly missing file does. But I do know that it definitely IS NOT "missing from (my) computer." It is alive and well at c:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Snapfire Plus\CoreMultimedia.dll. When I right-click this file for Properties, I see that it hasn't been modified since its creation date of 8/4/06 and hasn't been accessed since 4/26/07.
What gives? How do I solve this? Thanks in advance.

It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
