Question To iPhone 3G Owners

The previous iPhone had a very tough back, is the new plastic one as resistant ? What about scratches ? I want to buy myself one, and I'm just curious.

This was a concern of mine as well. After I bought it I kept it in my pocket naked for a day but I chickened out and bought a cheap Incipio case. I HATE cases because the design of the phone is so slick and cases ruin the looks. I figure I'll buy an Invisible Shield once I figure that my phone is perfect hardware-wise and I don't have to trade it in.

I am a new iPhone 4s owner. I have a tone in iTunes that I downloaded from the web as a m4r file. Why won't it sync to my iPhone so I can set it as a ringtone?
    Lois

Yes, the tone is available and checked in iTunes under the Tones library.
Yes, it is also listed under the Tones tab for my iPhone, but it is grayed out.
Yes, tones are selected under "sources" in General Preferences, along with everything else.
SyncTones was NOT selected under the Tones tab for my iPhone. I did so and it synced.
    Thanks for your help!

Then there's nothing you can do.  Only the previous owner can help you.  They must either provide the ID and password, or erase the phone and remove it from their account as explained in the article you were reading.  There's no way around this.

  • Basic questions on iPhone apps. Please help!

Hey I have a few semi-basic questions about iPhone apps. If you know the answers to any of them please respond as it would help me ton. Even if you dont know the exact answer, it'll help me with any input. Trapster is a good example of what im looking for because it uses a map and it receives/sends small amounts of data constantly.
    1) How much on average does it cost to hire a group of people to code an app for you. Specifically, how much do you think the app Trapster took to program? Are there any specific other apps you know how much it took to code? I need estimates, because I have nothing. A number like 50,000 would help a ton more other then saying "it depends" .....
    2) Apps like Trapster, send and receive small amounts of data all the time? What controls all of this data? Im guessing a server. But what are the server's specs? How many? Price per month?
    3) With 3.0 SDK now out, you are now allowed to implement google maps into 3rd party applications. Now I know you cannot use it for turn-by-turn navigation. But can you still use the directions feature already on google maps? Can you still use the search feature to search for a restaurant as well? Or maybe you can just see the map and thats it. Does anyone know exactly what you can use with google maps or know where there is more information? Ive tried everywhere.
    4) Just tell me if this is correct: You can add advertisements into your app. On average, for every 1000 times your app gets opened, you get about 1.00-2.00. So if your app gets opened 2,000,000 times you get $2,000 from advertising if you get 1.00/1000. Is that accurate as an average?
    5) Since 3.0 now supports push notifications, would you be able to have anything at all running in the backround? For example, on trapster, if you approach a red light camera, the app beeps. With 3.0, if you are on the home screen and approaching the camera, is there a way of getting the iphone to beep even though your just on the iphones main screen or any other screen? Im guessing not because in order to receive the push the iphone needs to know your current location and the location of the camera, which is why the app would need to be running. Incase im wrong is there a way of doing this?
    6) If an app is free and does not do advertising, does it make any money? If so how?
    Thanks!

    >"If an app is free and does not do advertising, does it make any money? If so how?"
    Of course.
It's called 'reputation earned'. You negotiate your future based on attention from something (a free app?) that amazes the known world. Could be a book deal after you spend your young/old life crossing the divide - could be a marriage proposal that brings great wealth - could be a cabinet position with a station in a foreign tax haven.
    Use your imagination.
As for cost, pull a number out of your hat and then double it...then double it again. Same goes for time, staff and delays.

  • I read somewhere that the iPhone 4S owners were going to get a free bumper, can anyone verify this?

Hi, I read a lot of tech news on Engadget and online and I don't really remember where I recently saw that Apple was going to give us iPhone 4S owners a $15.00 gift card or a free bumper because of the signal or antenna issues that the phone has, can anyone verify this?  And if so, can you lead me, or provide with some information please?

  • HT201441 i cant find a way to contact my iphone previous owner and its locked i need help

hi i cant find a way to contact my iphone previous owner and its locked i need help

There is nothing anyone can do for you.
You need the previous owners password to unlock the phone. If you can't get that, then your phone is useless.
Nobody, not even Apple, can unlock it for you.

  • Questions about iPhone backup?

I am iPhone novice,so i have some questions about iPhone Transfer included iTunes.
    1. Only back up iPhone files via iTunes?
    2. iTunes just can back up address list and calendar?
    3. i want to back up plug-in,patch,application program, game ect, how to operate iPhone backup?Anyone can tell me simple&professional tutorial about iPhone?Or introduce a good iPhone Transfer like or better than iTunes.
Appreciate your detailed answers! Thanks in advance.

iTunes is required to transfer iTunes content from your iTunes library on your computer - music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, 3rd party apps, and selected photos from your computer to your iPhone. iTunes also serves as the sync conduit for contacts and calendar events between your iPhone and the supported address book and calendar application on your computer.
iTunes creates and maintains a backup for your iPhone which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process. The backup does not include all data on your iPhone. The backup does not include any iTunes content - music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, or 3rd party apps. All iTunes content on your iPhone should remain in your iTunes library on your computer and the backup doesn't include any photos transferred from your computer. All photos transferred from your computer should remain on your computer as well.
This link provides the data that is included with your iPhone's backup.

  • A few questions for Iphone Owners...

Ive watched the videos, ive read the forums for a few days now, but still have some questions.
    1) can you record your phone calls from the iphone? I havent seen anyone mention this. Can you at least record memos with it or do you have to make memos with text only?
Its nice to be able to be somewhere and record a voice memo.
    2) One thing I hate about verizon is the minute long triad people get after they hear my voice mail greeting. At least when i had sprint I could go into advanced options and turn off all the crap after my voice mail greeting to spare the poor caller anymore of his/her time after my greeting. Is there a way to do this with AT&T? I swear its the wireless carriers trying to milk more than a minute out of you so they can get another minute to bill you for when you call someone from your cell phone.
    3) Lastly, how is the picture quality with the phone? Ive owned a LG chocolate, a razor, a ppc 6700, a sanyo , etc and Ive yet to even be partially impressed with a camera phone. I think my LG is the closest Ive ever got to a "okay " picture. Im not picky, just a picture that isnt blurry would be nice. Is it that much to ask to take a picture of a kid that is hardly moving and not have it be blurry? Or one outside that doesent become washed out from the bright light? Im not sure what people are even using camera phones for, but Im guessing they are about as usefull as web browsers in previous cell phones (ie, worthelss). Does the iphone hold its own in this regard or is the same old cellphone camera as the rest of them?
Thanks for any replies. Just as a side note, one of the reasons im looking at the iphone is one I havent seen anyone list on the apple forum. UPDATES! Im no apple fanboy, but I give them credit for constantly fixing/improving the ipod and listening to the customers. If there is one reason above any other for owning the iphone, its that I belive apple will constantly be fixing/improving/ etc the iphone throughout its life cycle and you cant say that about any other phone mfg. The most you get out of them is some firmware updates if there is a serious flaw. And even then they only are fixing it becuase they advertised it and if they dont fix it they will get sued. My 2 cents anyway..

    1) There is no voice nor video recording functionality on the iPhone
    2) Sorry but I haven't actually tried voicemail yet from an incoming caller's perspective. The visual voicemail system itself is fantastic though - to be able to pick and choose the messages you want to hear in any order is great.
    3) The screen on the iPhone is absolutely stunning. I actually just stared at the picture of the Earth from space that is on the screen prior to activation just because it looked so good. Videos also play very nicely though with the enhanced resolution of this screen, you will notice conversion artifacts more easily than on the much smaller regular iPod screen. But this is not an iPhone issue but rather due to the parameters set by the end user when converting video.
I am very happy I got this phone and with knowing how well Apple handles software updates, I know even this version 1.0 hardware will get even better.

  • Save first 45 day 4G iPhone deserted owners

    Hello everyone.
I am trying to understand the mindset of those who offer Cheese to the whiners and talk smack at them.
The iPhone is a ground breaking product. Apple is famous for its rock-solid products both on the hardware and software fronts that last long years of indulgent while depreciating slower than the rest of competitors. This is one of many indications to a high standard professional company. Every once in a while the market might have experienced a slight cage rattle like the one with iPod color / photo or the IBM / intel fast switch (which perfectly fits the contemporary technological demand on an even keel of profit), but in the end of the day Apple has always had an outstanding reputation of creating unbeatable long lasting products, while consistently be ahead of their time. More importantly, Apple has been by far the best known customer caring company in the business, partially because they deeply believe in their products. Hundreds of thousands of people who swarmed the stores for the iPhone, whole heartedly believed that the pricey tag Apple set seven months prior to release is in the lines of being ahead of competition, as Apple eloquently reasoned the iPhone to be the sexiest, most innovative and smartest phone of all its kind.
The problem at hand is, if the iPhone was irrefutably an icon, and as Apple put it +*"The Best iPod. Ever."+*, which per se guarantees a strong market stance, what truly made Apple discontinue the 4G model so suddenly? The immediate question is hence why was it released to begin with? Additionally, why would there be such a gigantic mark reduction of the 8G below that of the now-obsolete 4G -- *all after just few weeks since release?* Now, focus your attention on the 4G owners who are below the 46th day and are left with a discontinued half-sized product. Focus your thoughts on them, and keep reading.
So, is the iPhone a heat-print T-shirt from venice walk? Is it an SDRAM memory that goes down in price by the second because they finally managed to concentrate all the factories in China? or is this a revolutionary Apple product?
"The Best iPod. Ever." shouldn't get wiped out in just *few weeks*, definitely not in such a ridiculous price cut after a thorough reasoning why it was expensive to begin with. It makes sense if the price has been reformed "technologically" throughout those 7 months, but since the price has not been updated on launch, it meant Apple, a multi-billion corporation, had reasons to stick to their rhetoric of pricing. But whatever made Apple choose to go the path they did, many defended Apple claiming they couldn't have foreseen it coming. However, I, and hundreds of thousands of 4G owners, refuse to believe a commercial giant like Apple did not know their actions will yield to such friction and sparks. Intrinsically, it only means their business plan was deficient; and so why would few weeks old consumers pay for it so dearly? I thought they were promised the *+"The Best iPod. Ever"+*.
People who actually whine about the complaining iPhone owners came up with all the possible fair reasons for the drastic change, euphemistically acknowledging that the iPhone price and product sudden death did came out "sooner than later". Now, whatever the true reason may be, it doesn't change the fact everyone admits, even in the slightest, it was a stinker. The whole lot of folks who wanted to wait for a $199 iPhone realized it too and further reaffirmed it by mocking the so-called "early adapters" (counted by the first 45 days).
Now, hotshots, right before you spring back into "Max, lol!1! That's how technology workz because Steve just wrote so in a letter that embraces you with a $100 crybaby credit you don't deserve you PC hater lol!1!", imagine those very hundreds of thousands of 4G owners sitting still and taking that stinker in the face (mind you our jaw is still dropped).
A single DAY past the 45th day of the first ever release of a mega icon, that is "an iPod, a Phone and an Internet communication device" (repeat x3 times) - you can already buy the same 8G many couldn't afford for much less of the discontinued 4G.
How would YOU feel, especially if you happened to be going after the 4G iPhone, like myself?
"We won't feel a thing Max, lol!1!, because nobody twisted our armz!! law11L1"
Those who couldn't realize how could I even do math with all that whining and reach the 45 day count; savagely slice 14 days off 60, the round number of days the mega hit revolution 4G iPhone has been in the market, and then hose all the numbers below the result by $200 dollars with a store credit that only expands Apple's market and leaves you with an obsolete and high paid product.
Thank you Apple, for treating your fans so well.

I understand people being a tad miffed over the price drop. I'm over listening to them complain about it, but I do get it. However I don't understand the 4GB model people. It's not like Apple has decided that not only will they no longer carry it, but that they won't honor the warranty either.
Your phone is still covered by warranty. You're not the red-headed step child of the iPhone family. You chose to purchase a 4gb because when you rationalized it, you decided that 4GB was enough memory. If you only bought the 4gb to save a couple of bucks, then you only have yourself to blame. If you bought the 4gb because you didn't have enough money, then your priorities were out of whack. Either way, you made the choice to buy the 4gb, so you must live with it. You'll still get the $100 credit.
And the funniest part of all of this is: 6 months from now, if any of those 4gb iPhones crap out what do you think the chances are that they'll have any to replace them with? Exactly. At some point Apple is going to be replacing 4gb iPhones under warranty with 8gb's because there won't be any 4gb iPhones.
So pick your excuse for buying a 4gb, either way no one forced you to do it.

  • Question regarding iphone and charger

    Hello,
I have a scenario and 2 questions I would like to ask you
    Scenario:
Iphone with 100% charged battery, iphone is still connected to laptop USB or wall power socket.
    True or False:
    a) the iphone draws power directly from the charger, the battery does not supply power to the iphone until the charger is disconnected.
    b) the iphone draws power from the battery --> the battery draws power from the charger (laptop or wall)
    Thanks in advance
    Bogdan

The Apple hardware, iOS devices and MacBook Pros, charge until the battery reaches 100%.  At that point the charging circuit shutsdown and the device operates on line or external power until the charge level drops to 93-95% by normal trickle down.  At that point the charging circuit switches to charge the battery.
So, as long as you are not charging the battery, and still plugged in, the device will run off line power.

  • Questions on iPhone and ITunes

    1. I took photo with iPhone and then sync with the iTune. Where can I get my photo on the PC?
    2. I know that there is a back of my iPhone each time I sync with the iTune on the PC. However, How can I get and use the backup?
It seems that there are a lot of iTune files scattered around under "My Document" folder!
    3. I'm going to install Windows on a new harddisk. How should I transfer the iPhone backup to the new system?

You cannot merge Apple ID accounts, that has never been supported.
You can contact the Apple ID Security folks per the listing in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699 and they can help reset security questions and get the account working.

  • I am trying to ask a question about iPhones, but it will not let me post - I get a message similar to this - you are not allowed to change the content.  Any help on this matter?

I am trying to ask the following question: Just updated my iPhone5 to V 7.1.2 and can no longer print to my MFC 7860W from this phone.  I researched this issue on this forum and found answers from last October/November.....  Wary of downloading anything that was posted that long ago.  Wondering if there is anyway around this issue, with more recent information?  I was able to use this printer in the past by using Brother's iPrint App.
    Thanks!!
But when I hit post, I get an error message at the top - "you are not allowed to change this content"  Can anyone help me?

I am assuming you got that message when attempting to post an old thread. The old post is probably locked/archived.
FYI, posting on old threads usually yields no responses at all.
I have requested that this post be moved to the iPhone forum where you might get assistance.

  • Multiple questions re iPhone iOS 7. Please help where you can.

    Hi,
I've had a Macbook and an iMac before, so am not unfamiliar with Apple products and the OS in general, however I have just got an iPhone 5C, and after years of mobile phone Android, have not found migrating to the iPhone half as straight-forward as I thought it would be, and have a NUMBER of questions.  I'm unclear on a number of items that I have attempted to search for, and figure out.
I'm sorry to post all these questions in one discussion! I possibly probably will ask them all individually, but for economy, and in case there's anybody who likes killing more than one bird with a stone, I thought I'd post them all here.
Please answer any that you can. Any help will be much appreciated.
    1. App Store / iTunes Store - the Android Play Store houses everything in one, but on the iPhone you have the App Store for apps and games, and the iTunes store for everything else, right?
    2. However, where do you search for podcasts?? I can't find podcasts as a category in the iTunes store?
    3. And I can find Audiobooks as a category in the iTunes store, but where can I find ebooks? Or does this not exist? (It does on the android play store).
    4. When you browse through the Featured apps, or Top Charts on the App Store, it presents the apps in a list format each in small/medium size with icons and a small amount of information displayed. HOWEVER, when you use the search function, it displays the app results full-screen. i.e. browsing through the results each app takes up the whole screen, and you swipe along to see the next app. If there are hundreds or more results, it makes it awful to browse through the results of the app search....
    5. is there a way to change the display format of the search results? i.e. in list format and show multiple results on one page, scrolling along or down? I would really, really like to do this.
    6. And can you filter the search results at all?? You don't seem to be able to filter the search results by category or price, or anything. Is this right?
I am finding app store pretty horrific to use, so any tips would be much appreciated.
Next questions (and bless your patience if you're still with me here),.....
    7. Newsstand. So I can search for newspapers and magazines in newstand, and in the App Store, and then they will automatically be put in Newsstand? However, I downloaded BBC News, and a couple of other newspaper apps, and they are not in Newsstand?
...I can't move anything out of Newsstand onto my phone, i.e. The New York Times, and I can't move anything into Newsstand that's on my phone, i.e. the Guardian app? Is this right?! (I realise I'm giving away all my reading choices here). Surely this can't be right?
    8. Notifications. If something is updated/downloaded et cetera, I get a little red circle at the top right of the app with a number in it telling me there's been some *activity* in that app and to go and check it out. That's fine. But I have a had one of these notification bubbles above my Newsstand app for days now, and I don't know what it refers to or how to make it go away. I've opened Newsstand, and I've opened every newspaper/magazine that I've brought into newsstand, and it hasn't disappeared. Is there any place or way to determine what the notification refers to? If I'm calling it a 'notification' in error, please forgive me and correct me . Short of deleting every magazine in my newsstand, I don't know how to get this red bubble gone. Please help bubble-free me.
    9. MESSAGES. This has astounded me. There are no drafts whatsoever in iPhone time messages? So if you go to compose a new message, if for any reason you can't or don't want to complete the text message at the time, if you leave whatever you have written is gone?
    10. If this is the case, is there an alternative text messaging application that I can use, that would allow this functionality? I'm not talking about whatsapp, which I have, or any kind of messaging platform that uses internet and requires the receiver to have the same app. Just straight text messaging that uses the text allowance given by your service provider. Is there an alternative to this, that allows drafts and the normal functionalities provided for text messages by other phones?
    11. Is there a way to search sent messages alone?
    12. Sometimes my text messages appear green, and sometimes they appear blue. Is there a reason for this? (This is a minor question, please feel free to pass over it if time is scarce)
    Finally, and nearly there.
    13. The push button at the bottom of the screen takes you out of apps, and if you push it twice it takes you to all open apps. Is there no way to actually close an open app when you exit it? Or if you want to actually close an app, any and every time, you have to push the iPhone home button once, then you have to push it twice, and then you have to swipe the app to close it. IS that right?
    14. Or should I not be worried about multiple apps being open in the background? How much battery/resourches does it actually use?
    15. I know that I can close multiple apps simultaneously, or at least three, by swiping three up at the same time. Is there any way to simply close all apps at the same time? Or any app I can download that will do this?
    16. Airdrop. I have a Macbook pro that's less than a year old, and the iPhone 5c is brand new. I can't get Airdrop to work. I've put them both as discoverable to everybody or contacts only, I've turned the wifi on and off for both, bluetooth on and off for both, every different combination possible, and there's nothing. Nada. Guidance?
    17. Specifically, if I can't get it to work, who do I go to? Can I take my macbook and iphone to an Apple store? Can I get customer support? I want to use the airdrop feature as I've figured I've paid for it, but I don't know who to access the support for doing so, or which would be the most effective.
    Really and truly finally:
    18. My bluetooth seems to be turning itself on all the time. Even when I've turned it off. Why oh why?
    Thank you very much.

    1. Yes. App sotre has Apps and Games. Itunes has everything else.
    2. Podcasts are also found in the iTunes store. (The Podcast App only plays them, but is not a store)  You can search by title, and using the More button at the top filter by type. Select Podcast.
    3. Ebooks can be found in the iBooks App. Its a separate App and store.
4, 5 and 6.unfortunately no, no and sadly no.
    9.  Nope, Messages is treated like a chat as such no drafts.
    10. There are many Apps in the store for SMS messaging.
    11. Spotlight search searches everything. You can go into Settings->General->Spotlight search and deactivate everything except messages to search for messages only.
12.Yes.  Green messages are standard SMS  messages. Blue messages are iMessages. Apple's messaging service.  If the user is not using an Apple device or is not registered with iMessage it will send an SMS. Otherwise it will use iMessage over the internet to save on SMS costs.
    13. When you exit an App most will close. When you get to all open Apps swipe the App screen shot to close it manually.
    14. Most Apps in the Multitasking list aren't actually running. As such they don't use battery. Only Apps set to background tasks will continue to run via the Background App refresh setting.
    16. Correct Airdrop at this point is only between iDevices.  or between Macs. You can't Airdrop between a Mac and an iDevice.
    17. You can take your Phone to an Apple Store for support form the Genius bar if required. You also have 90 days phone support.
    18. Airdrop uses Bluetooth. and you may have another App that needs it.
You may want to take a look at the manual for specifics:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
