Question to SCN mentors

Hi All,
I am contributing continuosly in Workflow forums regularly. Now my question is it right way to abuse any thread or reply if it is irrelevant to the post, because I have already abused so many replies and post. Does this kind of behaviour have any impact on my posts , from SCN .
But seriously , Iam only abusing those post's which are clearly representing the post for points.

Perhaps what you are refering to are the posts you make directly in the forum as responses to silly questions or people answering them (in the hope of earning themselves points, a second shrubbery, etc, without adding value).
Personally, I am very appreciative when people all show their opinions (also in the forum) of what they think of the question or some of the answers. When done in a civil way and still related to the question in some way or another then it is better, as those threads sometimes even turn around into interesting discussions and the spammers generally avoid such threads because they are clueless.
But when you notice frustration setting in and wanting to shout at people because it is really pathetic, then please rather use the Abuse Reports system. Most other people are not interested in flame wars so moderators can discretely remove them (although the one or two flame wars can be entertaining as well).
When people are "hard of hearing" (which is frustrating, I know) then my personal tactic is to frustrate them back again. They soon get tired of loosing everything except their most stupid question or answer (as a warning to others who do a check on the OP before answering).
They realise that abusing the forums is not helpfull to them either.
Now, to your question: I can imagine that someone somewhere must already have hit the monitor while an SDN thread was displayed, but the damage is local so any SDN Coffee Corner folks would not be affected. There is no documented history of anyone ever having pulled a brown-eye at an SDN forum thread without noticing that the webcam was activated - is that what you are concerned about?

Question on SCN

From 11g'S Concepts guide
When a user commits a transaction, the transaction is assigned a system change number (SCN), which Oracle Database records along with the transaction's redo entries in the redo log.
Question1:
The documentation says that the transaction is assigned an SCN when there is a COMMIT. But isn't it more correct to say that the entire database is assigned a new SCN when there is a commit in a transaction?
Lets say:
At time 19:23:14:34 a transaction commits and Database is assigned 1198382929 as the SCN
one millisecond later
At time 19:23:14:35 a transaction commits and Database is assigned 1198382930 as the SCN
.Like above there can be 5 SCNs in one 'second' and 100 SCNs in the next second. But at any give time, for the database there is only one unique SCN and it is ever increasing. Am i right?

I was just tracking the earlier post regarding how to become a Moderator, but there seem no definite answers...
Can someone please tell me answers to following:
1. How to become a Mentor in any one of SDN Forum?
2. How to become a Moderator in any one of the SDN Forum?

With regards to easily searched, basic questions, if the person has clearly tried and still not got it, then I'll gladly help. But questions like "how do I convert dd/mm/yyyy to yyyymmdd", "how do I send external email from SAP", "how do I download a table to my PC" - these Frequently Asked Questions - no-one, never mind mentors should be responding. They should be reported to the moderators.
Now, with newbies, I, at least, strive to be gentle, by for example, sending them an email asking them to read the Rules of Engagement, and to try to search first. I even suggest what keywords to use. But if they've a few hundred posts, then they'll get a stern rejection. Even then, some people just don't pay attention. sigh On the other hand, some people manage to get a stay of execution by showing, and proving, a desire to change. One of our best contributors came very close to guestification in the early days, but "heaven has more joy over one sinner who repents...!".
My goal as a moderator is to keep the forums clean and useful. Not just as a place to ask questions and get answers, but also a searchable resource. Otherwise, we might as well just delete all questions older than a month!

Some questions about SAP Gateway

Hey, SAP gateway gurus,
I am new to SAP gateway and I created a SAP gateway service based on what I learned in the online tutorial video.
When a SAP gateway service URL is called in our shop, we will use a service account as the calling user.
(1) How and where the service account user name and password are passed? attach them to the URL?
The URL looked like http://server_name:port number/sap/opu/odata/sap/Finance_SRV/INTERNAL_ORDERS/?$format=json
(2) How can we pass and post a batch file in JSON format to a SAP gateway service? Is there any sample out there?
(3) How can I return the regular HTTP error message number in the DPC_EXT method if there is error during the query or update process?

You cannot save reports to BW in the current release. As for integration with the BI Platform, that is optional but depends on your requirements.

Some basic questions on HANA

Hi All,
I have some basic questions on SAP HANA,
I heard from one of my colligues that it is mandatory to learn SQL scripts for HANA, is it true?
Or basic knowledge is enough for HANA???
Is it added advantage while working on HANA or can we manage with basic knowledge of SQL???
I tried to find answers for these questions in SCN, but I could not get proper answers, So could you please provide answers for above my questions.

Hi Vladmir,
SAP HANA is a platform and is more than just database. Which can serve both OLTP and OLAP.
But since it is a database, Sp SQL skills helps you while modelling in SAP HANA. So When will it be helpful ? It is while addressing some complex requirements using SAP HANA.
At the end of the day, when you want to work in HANA ( a super duper database ) and you still thinking of whether to learn SQL or not?

Not able to get data of primary in standby database (configured dataguard)

Hi all, I configured dataguard in my local system, i ve a few qsns (as i am new, ve patience)
1) scn differs wrt primary in standby (i checked, 1day difference), how to make scn same?
2)i created a table in primary, its not refelecting in standby, (below i ve pasted alertlog entries)

OSD-04002: unable to open file
O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.

SCN can be differ in standby and it can be behind to primary based on the backup you have restored. Of course by performing recovery you can synchronize standby with primary database. Migrating all configuration from Crystal Reports Server XI R2 to Crystal Server 2013

We're running an old Crystal Reports Server XI R2 SP version (boe 11.5) and we're planning to start using Crystal Server 2013
As far as I know no upgrade is possible and that's not needed either.
Instead I'm interested in the migrate possibilities. I saw this thread but it doesn't answer all the questions https://scn.sap.com/thread/3462417
So first I will install Crystal Server 2013 on a new server and then I use some migrate tool.
Questions:
- does the migrate tool support migrating from my version CR server XI R2 SP1 to Crystal Server 2013 ?
- does the migrate tool copy all report schduling information (recurring schedule, destination etc)? We have ~1000 scheduled reports so doing manually is not an option
- does the migrate tool copy Business views/Business view connections ?
(- odbc data sources are probably not copied but that's ok)

Since you're already on CR Server XI R2, you can use the Upgrade Management Tool to migrate all the content to CR Server 2013.
Anwers to your questions:
1) Yes, the Upgrade Management Tool does support this kind of migration
2) It does seem that the UMT allows you to move all report instances as well as the scheduled jobs over to the new server
3) I've always had issues with Business Views when using Import Wizard however I'm not sure whether they work well with the new UMT. In any case, I always prefer to export the LOVs and BVs from within the Business View Manager to a .xml file and then import them in the higher version of the Server, again, from within the Business View Manager.

Multiple production systems in a track??

Hello,
Can anybody please let me know, if this is possible?
We have a production system (SCP) and a training system (SCN). I want to create a production track in the NWDI with just production systems. Can we have SCP and SCN in this track? I am asking this question because SCN gets its feed from SCP. SCN is a production system for a different wave.
Also, in another phase, we have the following systems (SD1, SRQ, SRV). SRQ feeds SRR (for dress rehearsal) and also feeds SR2 (for training in this phase). Also, SRV feeds SCP after cutover.
Could anybody please suggest the tracks for these systems?

Hi Sunitha,
As you mentioned you have already existing track. there is an option in Approval tab. In approval tab click on history button and then click on forward button there it will show all your SCA files. from there you can transfer to any of the target track. in your situation create a track with required systems and give this track name in target system. then all the SCA files will be transfred to checkin tab of newly created track. from there you can do the general import process.
try this once hope it will works....

Handling of Messages in events

Hi gurus,
Previously, I would provide error messages in WRITE statement, which seems to be amateur approach, anyways I have been using message classes and messages, but when I want to throw an error message of TYPE 'E' in START-OF-SELECTION event, the message is getting displayed on next screen.
Let me make it clear, I provide select-options on selection-screen, to fetch conditioned data from database. If no such records are found, an error message should get displayed.
I code,
START-OF-SELECTION.
IF sy-dbcnt EQ 0.
MESSAGE 'No Records Found' TYPE 'E'.
ELSE.
CODING
ENDIF.
If I code TYPE 'S', it's very well displaying on selection-screen itself, but for the case above, it displays on basic-list.
Suggest please.

You can go by 2 ways:
1. MESSAGE 'No Records Found' TYPE 'E' in AT SELECTION-SCREEN.
2.MESSAGE 'No Records Found' TYPE 'S' DISPLAY LIKE 'E' in START-OF-SELECTION, which is really advisable to display error message like what you want.
Behavior:
Behavior of messages differ among Events.
Like, TYPE 'E' shows error on selection-screen, when given in AT SELECTION-SCREEN.
TYPE 'S' shows error on selection-screen, when given in START-OF-SELECTION.
But, when TYPE 'E' is given in START-OF-SELECTION, it rides to basic list.
To get desired message type, use the following way; TYPE 'S' DISPLAY LIKE 'E'.
Moreover, Johny, don't hesitate to search such questions in SCN before posting a thread.

Hi,
Depends whether if you are opening (reading the file) or passing it as it is without reading.
In my previous project,
1) where we were reading the file using content conversion, the max size used to be around 5 mb.(In this case if you want to read bigger files , please go for recordset per messges,where you can specify how many records could be present in oe message)
2)Also, for passthrough interfaces where we were just passing the file using ICO, we could transfer files of size 20mb.(Here for even bigger files you can break the file into pieces and then combine them at receiver file channel)
But , basically it depends on the hardware configurations.There are many links for similar questions.

How to make single file from multiple PDF image?

Hi, it's my first question in SCN.
I promise my efforts for developing this site.
Lately, I made multiple PDF image by function 'CONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF'.(each spool ID)
And I wanna make single .PDF file by merging these image in server directory(not local PC).
So I tried it following.
1. Each internal table resulted from CONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF append one internal table.
   BL_PDF + MF_PDF → PDF
2. Excute following command.
OPEN DATASET P_FILE FOR OUTPUT MESSAGE LV_MSG IN BINARY MODE.
IF SY-SUBRC = 0.
    LOOP AT PDF.
      MOVE PDF TO FIELD.
      TRANSFER FIELD TO P_FILE.
      CLEAR PDF.
    ENDLOOP.
    CLOSE DATASET P_FILE.
ENDIF.
But files was not merged, only last image was made as .PDF file instead.
How can I do it?

Hi Sangrok,
Instead of preparing PDF multiple times, you can combine all the OTF data and then finally convert it into PDF. For saving the PDF onto application server, you can refer following report.

Cal. Year/Quarter Values in Text

Hi All,
I have a report which displays Net Sales in Yearly Quarters wise
Ex: 20131     20132     20133     20134
Query has included Cal. Year/Quarter infoobject, I've done setting to display as 'Text' for Cal. Year/Quarter object properties in Bex.
But I'm expecting the report results as
Ex: 2013 Q1     2013 Q2      2013 Q3      2013 Q4.
Could you please suggest me what are the settings I'm missing.

I was posted this discussion by checking "Mark this discussion as Question" check box. So it was posted as question. When I got the correct answer (immediate reply) I've checked that reply as 'Correct Answer' and after that I've posted some of my observations regarding my question.
Checking 'Correct Answer' will populate the question status as "this question has been Answered' and 'Useful Answer' will make the thread as not answered, but if the Author of the question make it as "Assumed Answer', then question status got 'This question is Assumed Answer'. And thread get closed. This is the only way I know to give the proper status of a question in SCN.
Phani Could you please explain, is there any other way to close the thread ?
As Anshu mentioned, it's been changed as Discussion (I donn know how it happened) , I'm unable to mark it as Correct and Useful, so mentioned in my reply as "Thread is Closing'.
