Question Update 1.01.14 What is this?
I have a slate Pro 8, Happy with the Tablet, not Happy with HP's Turtle crawl stance on getting updates. This will be my last HP product as my son is running Lolipop on his galaxy tablet. Not acceptable.
I also have a Laptop that was bought for us running AMD Pavilion and I noticed that I had to go to the AMD site and get the new graphic driver to fix a game I had.
HP only offered me the old outdated driver, so more evidence of being just plain lazy and why I am not buying anymore HP products.
This update I noticed this morning called 1.01.14 for my Hp Slate Pro 8. Is this update going to remove my ability to use my memory card?
My first Hp slate pro 8 I got my memory card, updated and could no longer use my memory card. Called HP and they were about as helpful as a piece of glass stuck in your foot.
So, I returned my Slate Pro 8 and got a new one since the first one broke with the update. I have left it on Jellybean hoping to bypass Kitkat and get the lolipop which restores back the use of the memory card.
What update is 1.01.14? Is this lolipop? or more KitKat crap?
Of course the update does not tell you, but that it's almost 600 Megs........ That would be to helpful.
Thank you for any responses. I am looking for a different brand of Tablet anyway, one that will stay updated. Stuck on Jellybean for now.

I'm not familar with this version but, I suspect that it is for KitKat since Lolipop is "new" in HP world. It would be months at least before an update to this would be available.
If you ask HP they will only tell you if your tablet is slated to have an update to the OS. HP will not tell you when it is scheduled, as they don't really know how long it will take.....

It means a valid system cannot be found. You need to reinstall OS X.
If you have Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
If you have Lion or later:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. I dropped my macbook yesterday and it turned itself off. When I tried to turn it back on all I got was a white/gray screen with a flash folder with a ? in the middle of it? What does this mean and how do I get it to stop so I can log onto my laptop?Deev
Normally the question mark on the gray screen means it can't find the operating system. Have you tried booting up from the installation DVD? Do that, and when you come to the screen where it wants to begin a system installation you'll notice in the menubar where it say's utilites. Click on that and choose disk utility. from there choose your disk and try to verify and repair the disk. If you can you may want to also try and new install of the system. I don't know how much critical data you have, but reinstalling is an option. did you purcahse you from an Apple store? If you did you may want them to look at it. Hope this helps.

Just come across this thread as my 160Gb AppleTV had the same problem this evening. The LED on the front was flashing orange and white repeatedly as well. I just turned off at the mains and switched back on and am now watching a film, everything ok.

Just bought a Gateway system based on the Intel i7 - 920 chipset, ATI HD49850 video and many other things...
The audio that comes with it is very confusing.
In the systray there are TWO audio panels. The first is for the Realtek HD audio. The second is for something called the Creative X-Fi MD audio.
In the system manager it shows two audio hardware entries, Realtek and ATI (from the video card).
It does not show anything for Creative. Yet, the creative control panel handles all the excellent audio controls and effects for the machine and without it, I do not get access to any of the high end sound.
So what is this? Is the hardware Realtek or Creative and why or what is the difference here between the two? Based on the ports on the back, this appears to be built into the mainboard and since I have not opened the machine yet I cannot tell much about the hardware layout.
The questions come about because this machine has built in hot swappable hard dri've bays for E-SATA and SATA. Awesome feature!
And while working on making sure all drivers were current, I wanted to update all audio as well but I have no idea what I should be looking for now in terms of drivers. Checking the Creative drivers area shows no entries for the X-Fi MD whatever that is. Thus the only drivers I currenly have are the ones that came with the machine, which when installed again do so via the full Creative installer. It fully supports and installs Alchemy and all other tools.
So if you are confused by all this, join the club... Anyone know anything about this?

I have version 5.7 and every time I opened it I was told that updates are available and to click on the icon to access these. Instead it just took me to the
adobe page with nowhere visible to update. I then sought to download lightroom cc and this is when I could not access the 'develop' section due to reduced
functionality It was apparent that my photos had been put in cc but no way to access them unless I wanted to subscribe.
I have since remedied the problem as my original lightroom 5.7 icon is still available on the desktop and have gone back to that. I do feel that this is a bit
of a rip off and an unnecessary waste of my time though.

Are you trying to update your iPhone using iTunes on your computer? If so, did you make purchases through the iTunes Store or App Store on your iPhone, and fail to sync them with your computer? That is the likely meaning of what you are seeing. If this is true, the purchases would be added to iTunes in your computer before the upgrade proceeds. -
I have downloaded icloud to my pc, however when i go to sign in to Apple through icloud, i get an error message saying my apple ID is valid but is not an icloud account. What does this mean and how can i update my account so i can access icloud?!
To use iCloud, you must first set it up with your Apple ID on a device with iOS 5 or a Mac with OS X Lion.

downloaded Appleworks 6.2.9 for Mac Updater-2.sim but when i try to open the file i receive the message "legacy image should be updated". what does this mean and/or entail?
Mavericks is not recognizing the .smi extension - on my Mac it thinks it's a RealPlayer document. You are not going to be able to do anything with this - it requires AppleWorks to be present to be updated, and you can't run AppleWorks on Mavericks (other than by the rather roundabout process of installing Snow Leopard Server in Parallels and installing AppleWorks on that, as described here).

The front camera on my iPod touch 4th generation is frozen. I cannot use it. Updating software does not help. This started right after I bought it, new from BestBuy. What can I do? When i go to the camera, it is stuck on a black screen. the only way to use my camera is through other camera apps, but if I try to switch it to the front camera, it freezes again.
If you still have the problem after retoring the iPOd to factory defaults/new iPod then The iPod is likely defective and replacement is required. You can make an appoinment at the Genius Bar of an APple store or take it back to BestBuy if within warranty

When downloading the new 10.7 update for itunes, an error message saying that there is an error writing to file, verify that you have access to this file comes up... what is this??
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -

Flash has been used for more than just displaying videos. The Vote choice your daughter found is one of those flash type sites that will not display on iOS devices. There are now over 100 million iPads, and who knows how many more iPhones out there. Developers who want their content to display on all these devices will have to move away from the old Flash technology.
There were some version of Flash that ran on other brands of tablets. But Adobe has stopped all development of Flash for all mobile devices. As time goes on and mobile operating systems evolve the no Apple devices will lose their ability to run Flash too. Web developers need to move on to cleaner, more efficient types of programming.
