Question: update firmware to my phone

If i update me firmware, that will change my IMEI or not?
P.S. Nokia N91-4GB

No it will not.
Youre IMEI will remain the same.
The best way to get a quick response is to use the boards. Please do not be offended if I don't answer emails immediately.

  • A logical question about why we update firmware

    just being real here
we all like the latest and greatest products, especially mobiles, and we all know they have their share of isues. but yet still we buy even though the device we owned previously worked fine or almost something like 90%.
the question is why do we buy these devices, then depend on firmware updates that sometimes improves speed, or maybe add a couple apps, but doesn't solve the bugs. why do we even bother to update. do we have to. if our phone is working ok, why go through the update process, lose all our installed apps, and then start encountering problems we never had before.
it is just a strange price we pay for technology. remember before firmware updates were available, our phones worked great. no worrying about wi-fi connection problems, or camera bugs, or widgets not loading, or phone constantly crashing and rebooting on its own. why can't we get a phone that works 100%, especially when we shell out up to $600us or sometimes more.
when i new update is released i am hesitant to go through it, but in the end still do. sad but true. so the question is, WHY?

    Good question ;-)
That question is more philosophical than mobile-related I think. That´s how people work and that´s how our market system works. People always want to have the newest gadgets, the latest technologies etc. Sometimes they´re better, sometimes not, but whether a product succeeds in the marketplace is not always about quality.
Demand creates offerings. If there wasn´t any demand for newer mobiles, there wouldn´t be any.

i tried updating my iphone 4s to the ios 7 but it said error with the firmware now my phone is stuck in recovery mode and i have no idea how to fix it any suggestions??

Try Restoring it 3 times in a row and see if that works.
If not that error can indicate one of two things: Your iPhone was at one time jailbroken, had the iOS version rolled back, or ran an unauthorized beta and if none of those things are true it is a hardware error.

You can try putting the iPhone into DFU mode and see if that will let you restore and remove the jailbreak:
    http://osxdaily.com/2010/06/24/iphone-dfu-mode-explained-and-how-to-enter-dfu-mo de-on-your-iphone/
Some jailbreaks cannot be removed and in some cases will permanently disable your iPhone. If that happens to you, then you will have to buy a new iPhone; Apple will provide no support, warranty or out-of-warranty, for a jailbroken iPhone.
You're on your own from here. We can provide no further help with a jailbroken iPhone in these forums.
    Good luck.

  • Updating firmware on locked E61

I recently got an E61 as an Xmas gift and spent some time playing with various features. By the time I'd finished I'd setup wireless browsing/email via our home LAN and also sync'd all my contacts and calendar entries courtesy of Zyb.com from my previous handset. I also changed the default lock/security code to something I thought was more secure and configured the lock option on receipt of a particular SMS. I finally switched it off in the small hours and went to get some sleep. The next day, disaster! It wouldn't accept what I thought was the correct security/lock code. The PIN code was no problem, but without the lock code I was stuffed. After some googling I resigned myself to getting the firmware updated and took it in to a Nokia Service Centre. Now I'm no expert, but I'd think that updating the firmware should be pretty straightforward, especially for a service centre with the right equiment/tools etc. Imagine my surprise then when after checking back with the service centre, they told me that they'd been unable to update the firmware and needed to send the handset to their central repair facility. Is updating the firmware on a phone that's security locked really that challenging or are the service centre in question just being a bit dim?

    no it will not

  • Deciding to Update Firmware

    Hi,
I've used the Nokia Firmware updater on my PC/Phone, and it worked pretty well. I have a few questions though, and I'm hoping someone here can help out...
Is the "Most Recent" firmware, version and date, listed somewhere? I don't want to have to hook up my phone and connect to the server to find out that I'm still up to date on the firmware. It would be great if there was a link that listed the date and version of the most current firmware for a given phone.
Second, is there a list of what the new firmware corrects? It would be nice to know what sort of changes to expect before invoking the firmware update, especially since there doesn't appear to be many utilities for rolling the firmware back if the new firmware behaves undesirably.
Third, is there a consolidated forum where we can make requests for changes to be included in future updates? Often times it doesn't really appear that questions and requests from the forums translate into changes in the product we have. It would be great to see a forum where we can make requests, or an area where polls could be conducted to see how many users are actually interested in a new or updated feature.
    That's all from me. Thanks.
    Dan

coachop94 you are obviously a man of great patience and in case nobody ever told you before, your advice is greatly appreciated.
Now just to clarify ... you state in your response that my computer is installing the driver ... this is not actually true, it is requesting the driver be installed however whether I point it at the original installation CD or whether I download and pre-run the driver from your link in the other thread ... it matters not, the driver itself will not load ... obviously the info bubble that states it has detected the Creative Zen Touch is simply getting this information from the USB device signature ... this then prompts for the above mentioned driver installation.
Now I am familiar with an old USB issue (or at least one I have not seen raise it's ugly head for sometime) whereby if you plug a USB device into a system and it does not have the exact driver for the device, then it will find a "closest match" driver, which invariabley will not actually do the job intended but will prevent the correct driver from being installed (Note to all: this is why we should always install drivers before we ever plug a USB device into our computers). To negate this issue I have uninstalled the device via device manager and then installed the driver from file prior to attaching the device ... to my horror, I still see the driver installation dialog once I attach the device.
What I am about to try is re-installing WMP0 (again via your linked thread) and see if, as you mentioned in your initial post, it NEEDS to be WMP0 ... lol ... I feel like a formula driver on about lap 0 of a 70 lap race :smileytongue:
[Edit] Maybe I should take to drinking Diet Dr Peppers too ... who knows what criteria Micro$oft have put in place :smileyvery-happy:

  • Updating firmware for N95

I've installed the latest software updater and tried to update the firmware for my N95 (RM-159). It says I'm running version 10.0.018 and that there are no updates available for my phone yet everyone is talking about version 12. Am I doing something wrong?

clarification on the branded question - Did you buy a "sim free" phone (meaning that you got the phone as it was delivered from Nokia) or did you buy it from someone like Vodafone or O2 or something similar?
As if you did the latter there is a chance that the vendor has "changed" the firmware so that they then can decide what is the best firmware to use, And they would test it internally before releasing it to its userbase. That would be the reason for why your phone says that there is no newer firmware as they would control this "check".

It's important that you have a steady WiFi connection, ZealousEdge. What phone do you have? Is your phone unable to connect to any WiFi network? If you can, please try deleting the saved WiFi network and re-adding it.

  • Updated firmware of Creative Zen Nano P

Questions?. Why do i need to download new updated firmware every now and then?2. WHat is the disadvantages if i don't download new updated firmware every now and then?3. What is the difference of the updated firmwares found in creative download section and the DAPJukebox website?4. Which is has the best quality firmwares, the creative download section or the DAPJukebox website?thanks?

All software regardless how good the quality control will have bugs.
Firmware is just software that is stored in the hardware on your device. New firmware is often released by a company to fix bugs or possibly add functionality that could enhance the use of a device.
But it is also possible that a new firmware update might add a new bug or two. (a rare occurance)?Sometimes (unfortunatly) new firmware upgrades can end up removing a feature.
For example it appears creative was under some legal pressure to remove the radio recording feature from there devices. On the ZVM, it was removed in one firmware upgrade, then in a later one it was replaced. On the Zen Nano Plus it was removed in the latest firmware upgrade (which is actually a bit old in calendar terms right now), but they have not released a later version that adds the recording back in. So in the case o fthe Zen Nano Plus, an firmware upgrade could be considered a bad thing.
If you require and use the radio recording functionality, then upgrading to the latest version (to fix some minor bugs) could end up crippling some of the functionality of the device. Normally when new firmware is released, there are notes detailing changes in functionality, bugs fixed, and even bugs that still exist. By looking at the information you can determine if you want/need to upgrade to the latest firmware.
Since there is some inherent risk in upgrading a firmware, most people don't upgrade firmware unless they need the new functionality or are experiencing a bug of some kind on the device that the new firmware might possibly remedy.

  • How to update a Nokia mobile phone

hiya this is the first time i am buying a Nokia 5800 Xpress music phone and i wanted to know what is the best and easiest way to update the phone's software or firmware? would it be via over-the-air (on 3G or wi-fi) or via PC?

Hi,I disagree with deepestblue, (sorry) fot 2 reasons.
    1) Not all updates are available over the air !
    2) It is always adviseable to back up first ( better to be safe than sorry), Google how to update softwate on Nokia phone and see what you find ! I know latest Nokia phones have user data protection, but think it is more advisable to use computer than phone !
The decision is yours, both methods are possible, so make your own choice, just RESEARCH first.
    Good Luck

Grrrrr.....makes me miss my stupid PC set up as I could force it to do what I want!
Intermittent connection screws up Netflix, VOIP phone, Amazon, Streaming music via Spotify/Pandora, general internet access.....whole family is ****** off.
    Any tips/tricks/ideas???
    dave

Downgrade firmware to 7.6.1 .. as the latest is just lousy.
It is easy to downgrade.. hold down the option key whilst you click the version number. in Macs.. lots of stuff is hidden behind an option key.
I also strongly recommend a factory reset and use all SMB names.. not apple type names..
    ie TC name.. TCgen4
Wireless name TCwifi (or give names to both bands.. TC24ghz and TC5ghz).
That helps all the non-apple part of the world.. connect.
Also Mavericks has now changed over to SMB as well. So even Mac is now windows networking.
Generally these two things. .7.6.1 firmware and SMB names will fix it.. if not post again as is another step that is possible.. controlling the WAN speed of the TC.

  • Best way to update firmware?

    Hi everyone,
I just wanted to ask you which is the best way to update the firmware for my phone?I mean with usb cable,FOTA etc.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards

Nokia seems to be comitted to improve the user experience... Its really good to know that... They have to do it to survive... BTW Nokia N78 latest firm ware is a little better. The operations seems to be fast.
It has just been a day with the firmware.. So far no problem... I faced a few problems while updating the USB get disconnected when the update is about to begin... but the latest software update program has all required warning... It asked me to restart my pc and my cell phone... And try again ... I did it Alas it worked ... got it updated ...
    I found a few things new :
The icons for videos (The one in old version was better) and search are all new.
I am from india. I brought this phone seeing the FM transmitter option. But after i brought the phone i found it missing.
But with this software update i got the option under the music menu :-) thanks a lot nokia.
Few problems with the camera still remains... music volume has come down a bit... the gps seems to be working a little faster.

  • Everytime I update Firmware it errors and I have to restore.

This is getting so **** frustrating. I love my iPhone but I HATE iTunes so much. I go to upgrade firmware and then it errors, then the phone is stuck in recovery mode. So I have to restore and upgrade then reload ALL of my music, apps, and contacts. This takes HOURS!!! And also none of my stuff will be in the right order it was.
What am I doing wrong here? It's not jailbroken or anything goofy like that.

I've just gotten so used to it that I make sure to back up my phone before hand, because I know its going to crash and burn. It's just depressing to have to waste about 2-3 hours updating firmware on the darn thing.
This is the only thing I can think of though, when I used to have the old iPhone I had it jailbroken. But when the new iPhone came out there was no need anymore because the app store keeps me happy. I loaded my old profile onto the new phone though. (Contacts, appointments, music) I am wondering id that's the reason its acting weird.
I could start a whole new phone but I would have to write out all my contact info and everything. Seems like a hassle.
That's it though, same thing for you?
