Question upgrading to logic studio

Hi folks,
I have a few questions concerning upgrading to Logic Studio 8. I'm currently (still) running LP6 on my dual G5 machine (bought my copy a DAY before the LP7 upgrade, and I was so put off I swore not to upgrade until 8... That was a long wait... ) but I would like to install LP8 on my Macbook first to mess around a little. There is no Logic on my Macbooks HD.
Is it possible to install the Logic Studio 8 upgrade on my Macbook without a previous version on its HD? (using the XSkey during installation of course!) Or do I need to install LP6 first in order to make it work?
Any advise appreciated!

You do not need to install an earlier version first, in order to run the upgrade.
Once Logic Studio has verified your XSkey, that is proof enough the upgrade is authorised to run.

  • Getting a new MacBook Pro, Upgrade to Logic Studio 9?

Hey all. I'm getting a new Macbook Pro soon, and I was thinking of upgrading to Logic Studio 9. I own a legit retail edition copy of the previous Logic Studio (Pro 8), and I was thinking of just installing 9 on my new computer.
What things will I need to do this upgrade? I still have the original box, with the manuals. Including the one booklet that has the serial number stickers on it.
    Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for the answers guys. It was running in my mind, especially this is the first time I'm doing a program upgrade like this. Thanks alot!

  • Just upgraded to Logic studio from Logic Pro 7 Some Tips

    Hi All
Just sharing some of my tips.
Tip1: If you have an "academic" version, it could be the "retail" version. I purchased the academic version 4 years ago. To my surprise, I discovered it's the full version, the apple store just put an academic sticker on the shrink wrap. The "obvious" signs: XSKey has retail on it. When loading there's no academic version on the title. The box has a barcode sticker that says retail.
Tip 2: When upgrading to Logic Studio. The install discs are full installs. What did this mean to me. Well I have a G5 iMac and intel MacBook. Logic Pro 7.2 was the first "universal version". One would assume you would have to upgrade to 7.2 (which has been discontinued) for the MacBook, then upgrade to Studio. Not the case. All you need is the XSKey plugged into the MacBook and install the Logic Studio (upgrade). Type in the serial code and your away. All my MacBook had installed was Leopard 10.5.
Hopefully these tips help people some people out.

    Peace. . . .

  • Upgrade to Logic Studio

I just finished composing some stuff on Logic Pro 7 using EX24 and a couple of other plug ins. The composition is quite basic, and I did not tweak too many settings (ie reverb, EQ etc) fort the Ex24 instruments.
Yesterday I decided to upgrade to Logic Studio. If I do that and open my composition now, will the sounds etc be exactly the same? Or should I expect a completely new world, and a full rework (note: the point is that I have used EX24 and some third-party plug in called "Swarshala").

ISSUE 1: EXS24 instruments -- Some error messages (shown below)
    **EXS24 instrument “Piano & String Layer.exs”:**
    Audio file “16n7aD#3.wav” not found!
    EXS24 instrument “String Ensemble.exs”:
Audio file “06f9bF1 M.wav” not found!
    EXS24 instrument “Pop Flute.exs”:
    Audio file “YTFLUTEA3X01.aif” not found!
When I open up EXS24, I find all these instruments under section 12 – Legacy Instruments. Even if I reapply the instrument, it does not work. However, other instruments under Legacy Instruments are playing OK. Any ideas?
Yes. This is a well known issue where some EXS samples that are actually from the Garageband content are deleted when installing Logic Studio. As you say, you can still find the settings in the EXS because the settings are there. But what you are missing are the actual sampler files. I wrote step-by-step instructions a while ago just for this purpose, check them out here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1395501
    ISSUE 2: System Overload.
I just upgraded from 2GB RAM and 120GB ATA to 4GB RAM and 250GB ATA. I am still > getting System Overload errors http://The audio engine was not able to process > all required data in time. (-10011). I know an inordinate number of peope are
seeing this error but did not find a proper solution to this yet. Any answers, > or pointers to where I should look to find an answer?
If it's just happening the very first time you play through the project, that's normal. Just get in the habit of playing it once through before you do anything else. If it is happening over and over again in a single project, there are ways of maximizing your system, but the best and most proven solution for this issue, thus far, is to reinstall Tiger. Logic 8 runs much more efficiently on Tiger than it does on Leopard. Check out this thread here:

Also, is your new HD a 4200rpm drive or a 5200? If it is a 4200rpm, that's going to create a serious bottleneck, and I'd recommend switching back to your factory drive. If it's 5400, then no need to switch. Most would recommend recording to and keeping your samples and other audio files on a 7200 speed Firewire 400 or 800 external drive. I use my internal 5400 to do sampler instruments/mixing/editing, etc, and I have very good performance on that. But I am on Tiger too.
    Good Luck!

  • I have the Logic pro 7.2,but how to upgrade to logic studio

Do i need show something to apple store to upgrade to logic studio of my logic pro 7?
    thanks!

I purchased the upgrade to LS from LE and found, to my horror, that I needed the old LE serial. I have no idea where it is and Apple does not feel your pain. Now I have to go out today and buy the new LE just to run LS. It stinks, but that's life.

  • Logic 8 Express upgrade to Logic Studio 9 ??

Will the new Logic Studio 9 upgrade ($299) allow me to upgrade from my current Logic Express 8 ?? Or will I have to buy the $499 ver. of Logic Studio 9 to upgrade. I am not interested in Logic Studio 8...
    TIA,

Sorry, just to be absolutely sure:
I have Logic Express 8, and if I buy this upgrade (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB799Z/A?mco=NzQwMDU4Nw), I'll be upgraded to Logic Studio 2 (Logic 9). No need for any other purchase?

  • Not able to install Logic on mac with OSX.  10.8.2. Error message: Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported. I have logic studio 8 software purchased in 2007 and upgraded with logic studio 9 (purchased in 2009)

After an earlier attempt to move Logic from my other mac (OSX 10.6.8) with the migration assistant to my new mac with OSX 10.8.2. I've re-started the whole start up process by erasing the hard drive from the new machine and build it up from scratch. After a new "out of the box" start, I decided to install LOGIC from my disks : starting with my 2007 package Logic Studio 8 and upgrading with my Logic 9 package from 2009. When trying to start to install 2008 I got the error message : Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported.
What does this mean? HOw do I get this working under 10.8.2 as it works flawlessly under OSX 10.6.8. For sure I didn't buy a new machine to have OSX 10.8.2 but I suspect this is the roadblock to installing my logic package.
    Help!

    Mark,
    Sorry...
I completely lost the thread (I actually got confused between you and another poster on a another forum that was asking the same basic question) and somehow ended up thinking you were trying to install on a PPC Mac
My apologies and please ingnore those parts of my last post relating to the PPC Macs...
You have an Intel Mac and therefore Logic Studio 2 Boxed Upgrade set should install/run on your Mac without issue. As I said earlier.. you do not need to try and install from the original Logic Studio 1 /Logic 8 Boxed set...(It won't work anyhow because you have an Intel Mac and that version had a PPC installer)  but just install from the Logic Studio 2 / Logic Pro 9 Upgrade Boxed setof DVDs instead...
Have you tried the "Make Disk Image" solution I gave earlier? That normnally works under such circumstances as what you are describing can happen when your DVD drive cannot read the DVDs correctly... I have had this situation myself where one drive read them okay and another failed to do so for whatever reason. Making and then installing from Disk images of those exact same disks resolved the issue for me...
You can try to reinstall directly from the DVDs of course though under some circumstances it may not allow you to reinstall Logic Pro itself if that part of the original installation attempt was successful... in which case you can also try this... (It's probably the easiest method if Logic 9 was already installed and present in your Apps Folder)
If the Logic Pro App is in your applications folder..
Run Software Updates to update Logic Pro to a version that will run under 10.8.2 (The initially installed version of Logic will not)
    Run Logic
Go to the menu bar in Logic and select Logic Pro/Install Additional Content and select all content in there..
This content is basically exactly the same as what is stored on the remaining DVDs of the boxed set so you might not need to use the rest of the DVDs to install from but download it all instead from Apple Servers...

  • Mastering plug-in or upgrade to Logic Studio?

I'm currently trying out the oZone demo & like several of it's features-although some things about it are quirky. I'm wondering if I should spring for it-or something similar-or upgrade to full blown Logic. Anyone have experience with oZone or any other mastering software? Any idea how this compares to the expanded features in Logic Studio?
I should mention, I especially like the way inserting the plug on the master bus "beefs up" the entire mix-the full spectrum seem more intelligible (if that term applies to instrumental music).
    Thanks in advance.
    -d

I currently just made the decision and got ozone versus Studio pro.
I'll let you know but preliminary signs work in Ozone's favor.
The presets may be a little heavy handed, but tweaking them is easy and my first client was very happy that he didn't have to spend big $$$ on real mastering on a demo album.
The app runs without a glich when used on a two track mix, with my somewhat underpowered setup.
P.S. Sweetwater is offering a very substantial discounted academic edition for holders of a student or teacher ID for $125.

  • Aargh! Just upgraded to Logic Studio and can't run Mainstage!

I just upgraded to Tiger and to Logic Studio. I know that my pitiful machine needs to go to someone else who doesn't use these apps, but I'm a working joe! I read the minimum requirements for LP8 and just met them. I guess I should'nt have assumed that mainstage couldn't require more assets than LP8! Anyhow it says that Mainstage needs: 1280 x 800 resolution, Open GL?, & 64MB VRAM. Does anyone know any hacks to get around these requirements, and would it crash the system? Also what is OpenGL anyhow?
    -Thanks

You didn't mention what machine you have, but the requirements for MainStage are:
    - Mac OS 10.4.9 with QuickTime 7.1.5 or later
    - at least 900MB RAM
    - 1024x768 screen resolution
    - and a reasonably new graphics card
There is no way to hack around these, because they are requirements. However 1280x800 is not required, but highly recommended (hence the warning at launch time), but if the graphics card is not compatible (too old), there is nothing you can do about it! All machines that are described on the box are compatible with MainStage. The machine is probably also too slow for MainStage anyway.

  • FCP Studio 2 upgrade question (upgrade to FCP Studio 3)

Final Cut license allows a one-time permanent transfer to another party. One of my customers would like to transfer their Final Cut Studio 2 license to me in lieu of payment. I would upgrade to Final Cut Studio 3, but they upgraded from FCP 4 to FCP 5 and can't find their original serial. I've got the FCP 5 (Studio 2) license serial number.
Question: Will the FCP Studio 3 installer want the FCP 4 license, or will it be happy with the upgraded FCP 5 serial?
Thanks to anyone who knows and takes the time to respond.

they upgraded from FCP 4 to FCP 5 and can't find their original serial.
No go. You need the original s/n from a *full price retail version*. Even FCP 1 will do.

  • Just Upgraded to Logic Studio Pro

Just upgraded Logic to its most current version.
    Logic Pro 8 is just wonderful. . . .
I like the newer "GI". . . So far it's proven to be rock solid for me. . . And I appreciate the other software programs bundled with Logic Pro 8. The upgrade seem to provide a lot of bang for the buck. Composing music just got a little nicer for me.
Just want to share a positive experience. . . .

  • Question about upgrading to Logic 9! Help

alright, so this is probably the stupidest question posted in a long time, but in december i bought logic studio and im trying to figure out if i just need the logic 9 upgrade for logic studio? and will it upgrade all the other apps like soundtrack pro, etc. and will i get the voices jampack and new loops with it and everything if i just buy the upgrade instead of the full thing again?

Yes, you just need the upgrade.

  • Hello, good day, my question is, buy Logic Express, but then put logic pro 9 in the same price, I can not buy logic studio, and let me know if I buy now logic pro, I can buy separately after jams that bring logic studio. thanks

José, if you buy and download Logic Pro in App Store now, the best option would be to buy an upgrade to Logic Studio. I don't think Jam Packs are available any more in Apple Store, besides it will be more expensive buying them one by one than upgrading to Studio.

  • Going from Leopard to Snow Leopard - Logic Studio 8 license question

    Hello everyone !!!
I'm currently running Leopard on my MacBook and I'm planning to upgrade to Snow Leopard by performing a clean install of it.
    My question is:
Will I lose my Logic Studio 8 license or any features, like the upgrading to Logic Studio 9 one, if i do it that way ?
    Thanks in advance.

If you wipe Logic by doing a clean install, then Logic will ask you to re-enter your serial number just as it did on first installation.
if you originally upgraded from LP7, it will probably also ask you for your original XSkey as well.
As long as your have your serial number, then there is no problem doing a clean reinstall.

  • Need to make space in my Hard drive to install Logic Studio Upgrade

    ok. Here's my problem:
I have a 1st generation Mac Book Pro. That means 100Gb of storage.
I've been using it for professional audio recording since then with Logic Pro (6 or 7 I think) and I made necessary upgrades when they were available in both Mac book and Logic. So, now my Mac has 2.16 GHz processor, 2GB memory RAM and is running Mac OS X 10.6.3
When it comes to Logic, I am in Logic 8, trying to make the last upgrade of Logic Studio but looks like there's no more space available on my laptop. At this point, I moved any other data that I don't need. My Hard drive is almost full of a data that most of it supposedly needs to be replaced or skipped. I'm talking about additional content of audio coming on Jam Pack, etc... The installation program allow me to put some of the data in other hard drives (about 22.68 GB) but still is not enough.
Is there any way to solve this? May be uninstalling programs and data that later will be installed again with my upgrade? I don't want to make a mess before asking.
Probably is time to get a new computer. If this is the only option please somebody tell me! but if is not, I refuse to spend the money. My laptop is working fine...
    Thank you
    Fran

Well, first i would decide what you need the computer for. If you use iPhoto and iTunes, maybe moving the libraries to external HD may free up a significant amount of HD space.
Also, look for apps you don't need anymore, look for ancient data that can be zipped&archived away. That's a lot of work, but is worth the time, because you get to know what really is on your HD. I have so many small apps&tools lying around on my HD clogging space, but in fact i only used them once or twice in a lifetime, so better delete them.
BTW: Make sure you have enough space on your HD not only to install Logic studio but have some extra GB's for the OS to shuffle data around. No OS likes a full HD.
My strong suggestion would to give your Macbook to a trustworthy Mac store where they install a bigger HD and copy everything over to the new one.
