There are no boundaries to this question.  What topic is of most interest to you to learn during 2010?  And while you're at it, tell me your preferred method of learning this topic - classroom, virtual, e-learning, podcast, webinar, or some other approach?  All answers are appreciated...thanks.

I recently upgraded by iMac iOS to Yosemite, and I find that my best buy provided Trend Micro stopped working. Question, what security software is recommended, if any for an iMac. Thanks

Uninstall Trend Micro software. It is not needed and could prevent your computer from operating properly. If there is no uninstaller for the software, then see the following:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller
      10. Spring Cleaning

  • What kind of mac would I need for Nexflix, basic search and email? Also, sounds silly, but can I connect an HDMI from Mac to tv?

What kind of mac would I need for Nexflix, basic search and email? Also, sounds silly, but can I connect an HDMI from Mac to tv?

Just an FYI.  The Macs named PowerMac date from early 2006 and before.  Use this tip to discover where to post once you get your Mac:
Site map of Communities and Categories
The cheapest Mac available new is a Mac Mini.   It is no bigger than many an external hard drive.  But the screen and keyboard and mouse must be purchased separately.  They support USB and Bluetooth keyboards and mice, and pretty much any DVI, HDMI, or displayport display.   Although the iMac is certainly an attractive option if all you want to deal with is deciding on a printer.   I still recommend getting an Apple USB keyboard for the occasional times you may need to troubleshoot startup issues.  Normally not a problem, but as it gets older some issues can be fixed at startup or diagnosed at startup.

  • What kind of wireless card I need for my Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GH

    hi there,
I have for sometime now a "Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5", and recently I have been thinking to get an Airport extreme wireless card with a bluetooth on it, which could work on my machine.
I have already try to deal with apple representatives and Apple sales people to give me a hand on the matter and so far is been a nightmare to approach this guys, tired of wasting time and effort, so that is way I am posting a topic on this section to see if you guys could give a hand on the matter.
All what I would like to know is what kind of wireless card I need for my Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 (version 10.4.11) and where I could buy one on line to install myself.
This is the mac unit I have.
    Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5.
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac11,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (1.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 4.5 GB
    Bus Speed: 1 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.7f1
    Thanks for you time.
    regards

You're welcome. Funny how Apple works isn't it? If it's any consolation, that Airport/Bluetooth card doesn't show up on the Apple U.S. store either. I don't think they ever intended it to be a user installable part, so perhaps that's why they don't offer it for sale. Do you have any Apple Authorized Service providers in your area? I'd think they'd be able to order the card as a replacement part.
Can you give a little more detail or a link to the gadget you're referring to? It sounds like a USB dongle to enable Wi-Fi, but that must be a third party solution, since I don't believe Apple ever offered something like that.

  • What is the most suitable image format for processing with imaq?

    Hello.
    What is the most
suitable image format for processing with imaq?
I want to capture an image of a usb webcam, store and
then process it with imaq. I need to know what format to save the
captured image can then load and process it with imaq vision.
    Thanks

The only criteria is: don't use JPEG for anything scientific!  The compression involved with saving JPEGs means you always lose information.  I tend to prefer PNG - it's compressed, but non-lossy, and also widely supported.  TIFF is fine as well, but I don't think has any advantages over PNG for this application.  JPEG2000 can give good non-lossy compression I think is slower to read/write than PNG.

  • What version of Safari do I need for Gmail?

What version of Safari do I need for Gmail? It says my current version (5.1.10) is outdated.

Any, but if you continue to use an unsupported version, many of Gmail’s features will eventually disappear. Lion and newer contain supported versions of Safari; alternatively, you can switch browsers.

There's 8 different models of MacBooks that are 2.0Ghz. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.

  • What type of modem do i need for time capsule. I can't get it to pick up the net

what type of modem do i need for time capsule. I can't get it to pick up the net

    Simply bridge the TC..
With DSL you need to either bridge the modem and use PPPoE client which can be difficult to setup.. especially as some modems do not bridge readily..
Or bridge the TC which is simple.. go to the airport utility and select internet page, on v5 utility or network page on v6 utility and select off-bridged mode for the mode of connection.

The update, which failed for you in Mail because you had moved Mail out of the Applications folder, where it needed to be to be found, or it was sitting inside another folder there, changed the version to 4.6 and you are getting that message because it's seeing the "old" version.
