Question with erasing pics off the itouch...
hi all,
i just recently uploaded pictures to my computer from my itouch and after they were uploaded, the option came up to erase the pictures after uploading... now i am considering doing that so i can start fresh on my camera roll on the itouch... however, i don't want all the pictures to be deleted, only some of them... is there a way to choose what gets deleted and what stays?
Delete them from the ipod itself.

I just got a WD My Passport 1TB External Harddrive and i have already backed everything up to it but im still a little nervous about erasing things off the physical drive on my macbook pro since it says my disk utility is out of space an implying i need to erase items.
I cant find the options to erase selected items it only shows that i can erase everything.
I mean technically i suppose i could erase everything an have a fresh start since its backed up to my external. But what exactly are the specific items being erased?
I have bought the newest OS X 10.8.2 an worried that it will get erased also an end up having to repurchase it.
Can anyone help me?

If you are trying to delete some files get out of Disk Utility, it is not for that!
How did you backup and what are you trying to achieve?

I am having issues with being kicked off the internet intermittently. ATT states its not an issue with their service. Any ideas?
Yes it is NOT your internet service. It is Apples OSX. It seems to be happening to older computers trying to run the newer OSX ( Mavericks and newer). I have a 2009 iMac I bought with Leopard installed, I upgraded to Snow leopard 10.6.8 and my computer was running flawlessly. I upgraded to Mountain Lion and I noticed my computer running slower... kind of annoying having to wait longer for everything (start up, browsers opening up, apps opening up, mail opening up and so on) Mavericks came out for free and I was excited to get out of this issue. Well, everything went from bad to terrible! Fast user switching had a glitch with desktop picture resetting to the wave, mail rules didn't work properly and I kept getting kicked off the internet (Absolutely NOTHING wrong with my internet). No one could figure out what was going on or how to fix it, even senior Apple tech's! After 3-4 months of searching, troubleshooting and waiting for a fix, I looked at my Mac Pro running Tiger 10.4.11 with no issues what so ever... that is when I made an executive decision. GO BACK TO SNOW LEOPARD! Since May 2014 I have been running 10.6.8 on my 2009 iMac and it has been smoking fast with NO issues what so ever, especially since I maxed out my memory for Mavericks. So to sum it up: some people might get lucky with old machines running new operating systems, but for the most part, it seems older processors can't keep up with the new sophisticated operating systems. how do I download a voice memo from an ipod touch onto my library without erasing and syncing the itouch?
Are you trying the "sync" the Voice Memos to a computer other than your syncing computer? If it is to your syncing computer just follow the instructions in the Users Guide. If to another computer you will have to make a backup of the iPod on that computer and then restore the iPod from that backup and then sync to the computer.

Dock question: Can I turn off the expansion/condensing effects of Fan and Grid view?
Hi!
Can I turn off the Dock menu expansion/condensing animations related to Fan and Grid view (and the condensing effect of List view)? I find the expansion/condensing animations slow and detracting from an efficient workflow. I would rather have menus pop up immediately so I can instinctively move the mouse cursor where I can anticipate a file to be located once grid/fan view window launches, rather than have to track the expansion animation with the mouse cursor so that I can select the desired file once it lands in its fixed position.
Is there any known backdoor way to cease these showboating animations?
For the dock to be such a major addition to the Mac OS (when compared to OS 9), I am surprised that there isn't greater customization for it. Speaking of which, why can't we have the option of having more than one dock, for example? I would like to have one mounted to the bottom of my screen for applications, but also have one on the left of my screen for commonly-accessed files and folders.
I am all for stock settings that help to streamline features for users as a baseline, but the more tweakable options the better. I pay a premium for Apple products; who are they to tell me I can have only one dock?! ;p
I've taken a look at Docker and Deeper, but neither delivered the goods. Thanks so much!
P.S. I am still using Snow Leopard. I haven't heard of new dock options for Lion, so please clarify if I am missing out on a Lion innovation.

Once you've had a look at that here's a tip for managing the photos that go on to your iPod. Create a folder on your hard drive called called "iPod Photos" or something similar and drag the photos you want on your iPod to it.. Under the photo preferences for the iPod, point iTunes to "synchronize photos from" and choose to update from your new folder. If you keep a dedicated folder like this, you won't need to edit your normal pictures folder just for the iPod and you can add and remove picture from it whenever you need to. -

I Pad Air, I OS 8, just download several days. having issues with; screen reerts to a previous screen without input. 2 On Google Earth cannot get street view in "some instances", Okay on regular computer. 3. Unable to clear off screen, which causes problems trying to get to diferent website.
Whenever I say I "Rebooted" I always did a shut down/start up. Not a restart.
What you said works as a temporary fix, but I don't want to keep doing it because:
1) The drive makes a noise when the computer is shut down indicating the drive was disconnected improperly.
2) I don't want to shut my computer off after every use, nor do I only want to back up my computer once every few days. -

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then the steps half-way down this page give you a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset - which will normally be by phone as they need to confirm your id and that it's your account.

When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 link above to add a rescue email address for potential future use -

Hi,
I would like to completely disable the green light during normal operation of the unit. Is that possible? The Airport utility seems to only allow me to switch between blinking (activity) and a steady light.This is the first thread my search turned up after wanting to see if my light could be turned off.

I hope Paklonder's dark response is tongue-in-cheek, because I'm going to be searching out opaque tape with adhesive that makes it removable, but doesn't get all slimy from the warmth of the light.
Edit:
Changing Airport Utility/Base Station/Options/Status Light to Flash on Activity, and turning it 90º goes a long way.
I just spent time searching through my other AV device menu trees and was my success with finding a way to turn off those lights was denied. I forgot to even look first with the Airpoirt.

I found the Airport Feedback page I pasted above with the keyword search "feedback and airport." When I just went to leave my feedback the subject line for my feedback auto-filled with "Re: Turn off the light?" I'm not sure, but I bet that was my keyword search that got me to this thread. I think someone at Apple just did something really cool with that little trick.

About a month ago I was trying to get the pics off my husbands phone into our icloud for printing. It recognized it as my ipod and synced to that, erasing all of his pics. We had just been on a trip to Tahiti and there were alot of pics lost. I spoke to a representative at the apple store on Friday that recommended trying something since it was backed up to my icloud. She was wanted me to try to restore the device back to that date or before. Any tips on how to do this? I have trouble right clicking and am not seeing what she was talking about.
