  • How can I get Apple's Attention, and get a new screen for my PowerBook?

Here's the problem, I have these pixels that won't turn completely black, they do every other color but black, and they're all over the screen. I have 26 of them to be exact. Some are brighter than others, some are green, others are varying shades of blue when I have an all black screen on. Some go away after the laptop has been off for a period of time, but during 2, 3, 4 hours of use, they begin to emerge again. I also have a white spot similar to the PB15" problem. I have taken this to the Apple Store at Eastview, and they claim it isn't serious enough of a problem for them to look at. They give me a lengthy talk about how there is a "certain number that they look for." And I reply with "I go to school for art, I look at images for my classes on my computer daily, color IS important to me." I also tell them that under florescent lighting, the severity of the problem is less visible, mainly because I do my work under halogen based lighting and low light situations. I have also said that I will buy Apple Care if they replace my screen. I am really serious about these little "anomalies" and I really would just like a screen replacement. I really wouldn't take two hours out of my day to have someone look for a problem that does not exist.
So if anyone has any recommendation as to how I can get this issue resolved quickly and without any tooth pulling, I would appreciate it. I have been a mac user for close to 14 years, and this has been probably my worst mac experience so far, I really hate to tarnish my record with one little issue.
    Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8/12" PowerBook 1.5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I took it to a different Apple Store, this time, they admitted that they saw the lighter pixels over dark screens. They said it doesn't effect the overall usability of it enough to warrant a repair. They also saw the white spot, however, they claim it is because I had exerted pressure on the screen, not because of the same issue as the 15" Powerbooks. I carry my Powerbook in one of those neoprene Tuscano cases, and then I always put it in a padded laptop case separate from all of my other gadgets and utensils, I highly doubt it was because I mistreated my Powerbook.
This whole situation has left me very frustrated, I am just going to throw in the towel. I wouldn't go through all this trouble if it was truly minor issue, but for the work I do, it is a huge one. I will say this though, when I buy my next Mac, and I am offered Apple Care, I will refuse. There is absolutely no point in purchasing it if they won't repair my Powerbook when it is within warranty. Why should I pay extra when they still won't replace it two years later? This has been the worst Apple experience in all my years of owning a mac. Will it stop me from using them? No. But it does reduce my satisfaction with their customer service.

  • Dual screen capabilities from powerbook to imac?

Hi, I am wishing to use my powerbook as a dual screen with my imac. How do I do this? Also, can I use my imac as screen for my powerbook? Just wondering what cables I need and how I can get this to work. Thanks!

Install ScreenRecycler, and use an Ethernet cable or other network connection between the computers.

  • Using 12 inch Powerbook as second screen for new 17 inch MBP.

My new 17' MBP should be here in the new day or two. I want to use my 3 year old 12 inch powerbook as a second screen, mainly to keep my email client open on that screen.
What is the best way to do this? I am sure it's not hard but I have never used a second screen.
for you super users out there....is there a way to run the programs on my bookbook from the keyboard on the MBP without remote desktop? I have some programs on that machine I need to use that can't be run on the new Intel machines (PAUP if you know it). They will be sitting right next to each other so I can just use the other keyboard but I like to save time at everything.

    Just try ScreenRecycler from http://www.screenrecycler.com/
You can even use a Windows PC or a Linux box as second display.

  • Resolution for 15.4 inch screen laptop pro?

Anyone know the natural resolution for the 15.4 inch screen. When I was browsing the different sizes it didn't give me a chance to restore it back to the way it was. I went to System preferences and display. I'm guessing it's 1440 by 900, is this correct? Thanks in advance.

The "native" resolution is 1440x900 which is in fact a widescreen resolution.
The detect displays allows the video card to detect any display you have added through the DVI port and either mirror what is already on screen or just be used as a 2nd screen to expand your current one.
I use it by hooking up a widescreen monitor (1440x900 incidentally but it doesn't have to be) which makes working at home very comfortable.

  • Question When I do a search for an image I only have a limited number of images. There used to be a ton of pictures on my screen and an unlimited amount of pictures to look through. Is there a way of changing this back to the way it used to be???

    Question
When I do a search for an image I only have a limited number of images. There used to be a ton of pictures on my screen and an unlimited amount of pictures to look through. Is there a way of changing this back to the way it used to be???

Thanks.  So there's no means of knowing whether a text message has been delivered, not to mention time of delivery.  Perhaps I've gone for the wrong phone.  It might do a lot but seems to miss out on some basics.

  • Laptop hinge for 15.6 inch screen

i need a left hinge for a DV6-1375 Pavilion laptop. number on it is fbut3055010.  for a 15.6 inch screen. Also could use a new top cover, but i can use this one if no one has one.

thanks for the help. I tried one of these 'HP Parts Resellers' and they are a ripoff. Nothing is priced below 80.00. I found the hinges on ebay for 15.00. HP has a hinge kit for 54.00 plus shipping and tax.

  • 31 percent failure rate for G5s with 20-inch screens

The September issue of Popular Mechanics says Apple surveyed iMac G5 owners on the heat problem and found an 18 percent failure rate among the original iMac G5s with 17-inch screens and a 31 percent failure rate for G5s with 20-inch screens.
Not even one year old, soon I expect these numbers will rise higher since so many people have the white band on the bottom of the screen and have not reported it yet. Hundreds of post in the display section on it....

  • 17 inch screen v 15 inch screen on a macbook pro

    Hi there,
I'm just about to buy a new macbook pro and planning to use it predominantly for editing on.
I heard recently that there were problems with the size of the 17 inch screen on some mac laptops and that they were fragile and prone to breaking.
I also heard that Apple had made moves to fix this problem. Has anyone bought a 17 inch macbook pro recently and have they had any problems?
Obviously from an editing perspective it would be nice to buy the biggest screen available but don't want to buy it if it's dodgy.
    Can anyone offer advice??
    Many thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
LCD issues can typically be avoided as long as you follow the tips here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=944373&tstart=0
Don't let the preponderance of issues on this board make you think issues are widespread. This is a hospital ward. Very few people come here who have no problems.
It has been mentioned elsewhere the 17" screen may be too big to pass British customs. I've not had that problem with U.S. customs. The 15" screen also has LED based LCD, which supposedly is more environmentally friendly, but Apple has a good recycling program that should still keep it environmentally friendly on http://www.apple.com/environment/
The 17" machine is slightly more powerful than the 15" according to specs:
    http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.html
So really the question becomes what are you going to be primarily editing? Text, the power of the machine matters little. RAW photos and video it matters more.

  • How much does it cost to fix an Macbook Air 11 inch screen?

How much does it cost to fix an Macbook Air 11 inch screen?
I am pretty sure the LCD is broken because it seemed as if ink was spreading across the screen and it has been broken for a couple months now. Please Help.

I concur with Osmar. That sounds like a valid guess to me.
If you want to know the exact price you will have to take it to the local Apple Store and let them examine it. Then they will tell you your options and the cost for them.
There always it the question of did running with the damaged screen for months cause additional problems which can only be determined by Apple after they examine it. If there is that could add to the cost significantly.

  • Where can I purchase a LED screen for my 13" MacBook Pro?

My 2009, 13" MacBook Pro screen needs to be replaced. It fades to white minutes after I boot up. Apple charges over $400 to replace a screen. Or they will outsource the replacement for $250. I have been repairing all my computers for years. I don't want to pay out a bunch of money for something I can do myself.  I can't seem to find a reputable dealer who sells the correct LED replacement screens for my Laptop. Will somebody here give me the names of places where I can buy a screen? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • "Mission Control" does not show space row and I cannot add a new space (27 inch screen)

Firstly, "Mission Control" does not show upper row with spaces. I have configured Dashboard as space, but it is not showed either.
Second, I cannot add a new space because the upper right corner wont show an empty space.
In system I have configured (Mission Control) the upper right corner as "mission control".
    I do run a 27-inch screen

I'm having the exact same problem. I have a Macbook Pro that I connect to a 27inch iMac through the mini display port. Whenever I attempt to launch Mission control to move a program to a different space, the "Spaces" dont appear at the top of the screen. Is anyone have an answer for this?
Also, does anyone know of a 3rd party program to bring "Spaces" back? That was my #1 favorite thing of Snow Leopard, and I need to get that functionality back.
    Thanks

  • Define selection screen for ldb_process

Hi I'm using the call function ldb_process for KDF(lfa1, lfb1, bsik), the trouble is that the information its different than if i do it on a normal report defining the logical database kdf and selection screen 903.
I find that the difference is because the selection screen, this is because the default selection screen for the kdf database is 1000, and this selection has the "Open items at key date" selection with the current date.
    The question is:
How can i define the selection screen 903 using the call function ldb_proces?
    Thanks
    Pablo Santos

    Hi,
You cannot define screen version 903 using function LDB_PROCESS. Instead use table "SELECTIONS" of the function module .
    Cheers.
