Questioned devices in DFM

Hello,
I installed LMS 3.2 on Win2008 Server without ACS integrations. I have all devices (43) in DCR and all credentials are correct. These devices are managed by RME correctly (I have all configs in archive management, I have all these devices in inventory database...). But I have a problem with these devices in DFM. When I use auto or manual synchronization with DCR - all these devices are in the questioned state. I tried to use rediscovery in DFM, I tried to use delete and add devices in the DFM, but the result is always same - questioned state:-( I installed patch dfm3.2-win-CSCta56151.tar - the installation was succesful, but the result for all devices is same - questioned state:-( The snmp-server engineid is not configured on all these devices. So can you help me with this problem?? Thank you

What is the reason DFM is giving for why the devices are in a questioned state?  In order for DFM to manage a device, the device must be reachable by both SNMP and ICMP on the IP address by which it has been added to DFM.

  • Questioned Devices in LMS - DFM

Hi, We are running LMS 3.2 (windows) and I have a group of switches I am trying to monitior in DFM.
I have discovered the devices in device management successfully. Then I import the devices into DFM they always go into a questioned state.
Several attempts with the same results have been tried.
I checked in MARS and I see denies from my LMS server to the devices Im trying to import to DFM.  The traffic seems to be in relation to when Im attemping the imports to DFM.  The denies are on UDP-137.  Is this port needed from LMS to the device for DFM to discover and monitor it ???
I have increased the SNMP Timeout to 14 seconds 3 retries
    DFM version is 3.2.0
Credentials are correct for the monitored devices
    THANKS - John

No, udp/137 is not required.  The devices must be pingable and reachable via SNMP.  Make sure the LMS server can ping the management IP addresses of these devices.

  • Devices in DFM not by hostnames

    Hello,
Devices in DFM are not shown by hostname they ae shown by IP address, but the devices in DCR and any other module i.e CM,IPM,RME are shown by hostnames.I tried by deleting the devices and re importing them manuall but no results.
    Thanks.

to have the devices with hostnames in DFM, their management IP must be in DNS or in the hosts file of the server.
You can check if a device is resolvable in DNS by using this script:
    NMSROOT\bin\resolver.pl
Once a device is added to DFM it will not change its display name, thus you'll have to delete the device and readd it to DFM once you have checked that the name resolution does work.

  • Contract Renewal Question - Device replacement

My current 2-year contract ends in one month. I cracked the screen on my phone about a week ago, and was about to file a claim for a replacement. My question is, does getting a replacement phone with my Total Equipment Coverage automatically renew my contract in any way, or will it still end next month as currently scheduled?

It will not affect you contract date as long as you just get a replacement, I did this a couple of months ago.

  • Capture Source question (Device)

I’m using Pre 7 (Windows XP) and I am able to capture video from my Canon XHA1s, but have a question about how the camera shows up as a Capture Source. The camera shows up as: Microsoft AV/C Tape Submit 1. Is this the norm? I do see in the Pre 7 Help section that the Canon XHA1s is supported.  When I capture on my laptop (Vista) the camera shows as XHA1.

The camcorder is supported and if you can capture I would not be concerned. By the way are you capturing in high definition or is the camcorder set to down-convert to DV-AVI?

  • LMS 3.2 DFM-all devices QUESTIONED-SNMP Timeout

I imported 26 devices to DFM. All devices became QUESTIONED, error is SNMP timeout. Here are the troubleshooting steps that I tried:
    1. rediscovered devices
    2. deleted and rediscovered devices
    3. increase snmp timeout settings
4.re-entered snmp strings in device credentials
But I still get the same result.I noticed that devices become questioned so fast.Any advise on this?

    Hi,
What version of SNMP you are using on these 26 devices ?Try to do the following:
    - Go to Device Center
    - Select one device for test
    - click on "check device credentials", select SNMP according to the version you are using.
    - See the results.
May be you get more technical and detailed information about the SNMP timeout error. I have already experienced some problems using SNMP v3. The problem was resolved when I configured the SNMP v2c instead of v3.
Also, I suggest you to try do "SNMP walk" test in the Device Center. If you get some results reading, for example, the value of "sysObjectId", just verify the Credentials Settings in DCR. You can edit the Credentials trhough the Device Center -> Edit device credentials.

  • LMS4, DFM, remove and re-add single device

A couple of times now I found that devices have gotten into DFM before the DNS was updated with the device name. A simple rediscover of the device does not pick up the device DNS name in DFM (in LMS it does ofcourse).
Also somethimes devices are stuck in learing or move to questioned without ever really trying to rediscover.
In LMS 3.2 it was possible to remove such single devices from DFM and to bring them back from the DCR later on. (no impact on configurations, map, groups, etc)
Is there a way in LMS4 to do this? A CLI method is what I'm looking for as I can see it is no longer possible in the GUI.
I'm aware I can turn of and on faultmanagement but I that is quite impacting where you have several hundred devices
    Cheers,
    Michel.

    Hi Joe,
Is there any update on bringing back the ability to remove devices from DFM in LMS 4.2.2?
The scenario I have is there are a couple of devices that do not exist in DCR but are in DFM. My install of DFM has had some issues until recently and I deleted these devices some time ago from DCR but they were never removed from DFM. I now have DCR and DFM syncing ok but these are the remnants that need to be removed
Your above solution can't work in this case because the devices are already unmanaged and deleted.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • DFM database delete for one device

    Hello,
I want to delete DFM database for one of devices in LMS 4.2. Or just delete and add that device in DFM (if possible in lms 4.2, in 3.2 it was posssible).
    Regards,
    Mladen

As DFM depends of SNMP output from the device to show all this info, before we claim it corrupt, lets check directly for the interface details.
For this show the CLI output of the device:
    show run interface <int_name>
show snmp mib ifmib ifindex <int_name>
    Example if it is Ethernet2/1
    show run int Ethernet2/1
show snmp mib ifmib ifindex Ethernet2/1
The output would be similar to :
Router# show snmp mib ifmib ifindex Ethernet2/1
    Ethernet2/1: Ifindex = 3
Do a snmpwalk on the following OIDs with the ifIndex number :
    ifTable (1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2)
    ifXTable (1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1)
    Example :
    snmpwallk -v2c -c public 10.10.10.10 ifTable.3
Please share the output for me to check more.
Also, for the device, to remove the entire details, we have no option left than to delete it from DCR and add it back after a short while.
    -Thanks

  • DFM Device name problem

    Hi
I been working with Ciscoworks LMS2.6, entered all the devices into Commonn services, Decvice Name, IP address etc, I have tick box in DFM to sync with DCR, which I assume is from the common services. The bug is that the Device name does not come up in DFM only the IP address, even though I have put the correct details in the DCR with the correct SNMP strings, has anyone one seen this issue?
    Dave

DFM is the one application in LMS which does not respect the DCR display name.  This is not a bug, but a design issue.  In order for DFM to show the hostnames, you need to make sure the management IP is one-to-one resolvable with the hostname.  The best way to ensure this is to add an entry for each device to the server's local hosts file, then delete the devices from DFM, and re-add them.  This can be made to work with DNS, but you need to make sure that the IP resolves to a hostname, and that same hostname resolves back to the same IP.

  • LMS 3.2 DFM Event Summary problem

    Hi all,
I have two issues, and one question:
    Issues:
    1)
In the DFM portlet, under DFM Evnets Summary I see a list stating that I have 2 devices that have Event Name as Duplicate. When I click on the number 2, it opens up Device Fault Manager - Alerts and Activities, but it's show with no records. This has been like this for quite some time now... Any ideas on how to fix this?
    2)
I've got 5 devices in DFM that are in the DFM Device Status as Questioned. They don't exist in CS, RME nor any other place. I went to DFM Device Management and under Rediscover/Delete, and was going to delete the devices from DFM, but the delete button is grayed out. How can I remove the devices from DFM?
    And now for the Question:
I sometimes get an event in DFM Alerts and Activities that looks like this:
    Name                                                          Value
    Event_Description:               InformAlarm
Component:                         [FQDN DEVICE NAME REMOVED]: Cisco Configuration Management Trap
Description:                         Cisco Command Monitoring -> Event Command Source: SNMP, Event Config Source: Running, Event Config Destination: Network TFTP
Sometimes it gets cleared by it self... So I'm a bit interested to find out what does this event mean? and how to get rid of it?
    Any help is appreciated
    Gudvardur

It sounds like your DFM databases may have gotten out of sync with the rest of LMS.  You can clear the first two problems by following the steps in https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-8796 to reinitialize the dfmEpm, dfmInv, dfmFh, DFM.rps, and DFM1.rps databases.  Do not reinitialize the others.
As for the delete button being grayed out, this is expected when DFM is in auto-manage mode.  To activate this button, go to DFM > Device Management > Device Import and disable auto-manage mode.
The config management trap you're seeing will occur whenever the config changes on the device.  This event should clear on its own.

  • LMS4.01 - special device distribution to mangement function

    Hello,
currently we are planing a LMS4.01 installation for ~4000 devices.
We want to have all devices in RME, CM and IPM, but not in DFM and HUM (I know there are new names now but for simplification let me use the old names). In DFM and HUM we need only our most critical devices (~150). So we want to create a group with these 150 devices and assign it for DFM and HUM import.
But I didn't find a possibility to do it in a single LMS4 server (this server is really very performant), but perhaps I don't know all possibilites.
At "Device Allocation Settings" I can disable the option "Allocate all devices" and can create a policy for the import. But this policy is then valid for all 5 LMS functions. That's not helpful in this case.
Or I can disable the whole import for DFM and HUM with disabling the "Device management functions" for "Fault Management" and "Device Performance Management". Then I have all devices in RME+CM+IPM, but no devices in DFM or HUM. Not helpful neither.
So my question: Is there a way in LMS4.01 to have all devices in RME+CM+IPM and only 150 of these managed in DFM+HUM ?
    Thx + Best regards
    Hendrik

This was a use case I thought was very valid (and doable in LMS 3.x).  However, it is not possible in LMS 4.0 without using multiple servers.
That is, you could dedicate a server (or VM) to HUM and DFM, then setup an allocation policy there to manage only those 150 devices.

  • DFM doesn't send snmp packet for discovery

    I have a LMS3.2 DFM3.2.0 on Window 2008
After I imported a device into DFM, It's stuck at Questioned State
    It's shown as
*** Data Collector Status Information ***
    Error Code = Snmp Timeout
    Error Message = N/A
then I tried capturing packets and rediscovery again
I've seen only 16 Ping packets between LMS and Device
but I haven't seen any SNMP packets from LMS to Device
( I've tried SNMP Walk from Device Center and it's work )
So I think DFM has any problem on Window 2008 ?
because I have another LMS3.2 on Window 2003 but it's work normally

I  close firewall and delete the DFM.rps and DFM1.rps files under NMSROOT/objects/smarts/local/repos/icf.  Then, add one device to DFM, and  it to go into a Known state.
But when I open Firewall (have allowed already UDP 161 snmp) , It go to Questioned again. How should i do with firewall on Server 2008 ?

  • LMS41 heavy DFM bugs after tidy up Management IP addresses

After tidy up some Management IP addresses in DCR and rediscovering, DFM has some mis behaviour:
    1. alarm flooding with questioning devices - all components of those devices triggers false-positives and that was a lot. I expect absolutly no alarms if a device stucks in questioning state - that can be false-positives only!
    2. aliasing conditions, that means devices appears duplicate with old and new IP in DFM
    3. some DCR deleted devices keeps in DFM, How can we delete them?
    4. because network devices are not DNS maintained in that network, we use the local system name as display-name (DCR-setting). Thats working for all other modules in LMS except of DFM. The display name keeps as IP there and so the ability to can compare devices between the LMS modules will be difficult.

  • DFM alert for shutting down a port?

I am using LMS 3.2, and when are shutting down a port, I don't receive any alerts. Is there any alert for administratively shutting down a port of a device?

DFM criteria for a interface down is
ifOperStatus = down and ifAdminStatus = up.  If you down the interface then ifAdminStatus will be down and not up, so DFM does not treat this an alarmed event.
