Questions about BT Home Hub 4A event log - WIFI c...

Hope someone can help please ?
I had BT inifinity installed 2 weeks ago with the HH 4 (type A) and everything has worked - connection found, no problem.
This week, my ipod touch was unable to join the network but the iphone 5, another ipod and a tablet could connect without a problem. The ipod touch managed to connect to another WIFI used at the property and my work wifi without a problem.
I thought it maybe the ipod touch as it was quite old but that doesn't make sense since it connects fine to other networks.  I restored network settings and other options suggested by Apple but to no avail.
I have turned my attention to the Hub. My laptop (older than the ipod touch) gets the connection no problem along with the other devices.  I went into the hub management page but I am not smart enough to decifer the event log so would like some help so I can fix this because I thought BT infinity was the better more reliable option?
The ipod touch Wifi IP address is 00:25:00:b7:35:f6.
On the event log, it shows STA before the address - but it shows STA before all the device IP addresses. Should I change this to DCHP ? or is this (Static ? alright)
The Lease on all the devices on the event log is set to 1440 min. (1 day) is that alright too, what does it mean ?
Do I have to keep renewing the lease ? How do I do that ? I read it can be set to 21 days ?
Going back to the IP address on the ipod it shows the Hostname as 00:25:00:B7:35:f6-2 this is different to the IP address with the -2. Could that be a cause of the unable to join network or is it because I attempted to recreate the network on the ipod so its the second version of that host name ?
Is there any setting I can change to fix this because I am concerned the same this will happen to the other devices and then the laptop....
What do I need to do to be able to get my ipod touch to connect to the BT network setting ?
I think its the hub 4A causing the 'block' on the ipod touch not the device and I think its maybe a matter of changing a setting - but then why was it all fine before when Infinity was first installed ?
Lastly my laptop (7 Years old) seems to be attached to the 5GHZ Wireless channel - is that alright ? The other more recent devices are on the 2.4ghz channel (except the ipod touch which isn't on any !!)
Is it alright to turn the hub on / off ? -I am resisting that because I don't want to make the situation worse.
Sorry but what does client disassociated mean and all the BLOCKS - do they relate to firewall ?
Please can you review the event log and my questions ?
Many thanks

It could be that the Ipod touch is having problems with both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies being named the same. If you give them separate SSids it may help. ie add a 5 to the 5GHz SSid.
If you do this you will need to re-connect all your devices that can see both frequencies to both SSids so that they will swap between the frequencies seamlessly when ever they need to
See link how to change SSid.
http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44504/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xMzc1OTY2ODIxL...
Once you have changed the SSid I would delete the network connection on the Ipod touch and start again.

  • IPod touch keeps loosing my home hub as the default wifi connection

Can any one tell me how I can keep the Home hub as my default wifi connection when I am at home. Currently I will set it to connect to the Home hub and it does no problem. then when I stop using it for a while it becomes disconnected and I have to reconnect it manually again which can be a bit of a nuisance.
Any help on this and why it is happening would be much appreciated thanx ahead of time

yes it is thats not the problem its staying logged on it seems after a period of inactivity it unlocks itself and locks on to a free wifi network like BTzone which although that is great for out and about stuff but not at home when I have my own network.....any ideas would be appreciated as to why this is happening and how I can stop it thanx ahead of time

  • Suspicious entries in Hub's event log

I'm suddenly seeing a lot of weird IP addresses establishing connections through my Home Hub's firewall. They originate from various places including UK, China, Mauritania, Ukraine, France and the US. What are they and what should I do? Is this some kind of attack?

If you are running game which needs incoming ports, then simply use port forwarding, and forward the ports that the game needs.
At a guess, you are running a game or application on a device at IP address, 192.168.1.69 which needs incoming port 45490. You can map this manually

  • Questions about SB0250 Front Hub

I have an Audigy 2 SB0240 and I would really like to get my hands on a front hub SB0250. First and foremost, are these two compatible with one another? I really need a SPDIF input for my home theater setup so I want to make sure these are going to play nice together.
Also, anyone know where I can buy one? ebay has some but they are selling with the card for $200+ im hoping to score just the hub for <$30.

    Hi,
I was looking into the settings on my BT Home Hub 5 for the first time today and noticed the settings were very limited.
Is it possible to change the DNS servers? No, you can not change the DNS servers on the homehub
Can I put my gateway in bridge mode? When you say gateway, are you meaning putting the Homehub router into bridge mode. If so I don't think you can but others may be able to advise.
Can I use another gateway instead of the BT Home Hub 5 if I wanted to? Again if you are refering to the gateway as being the router, yes you can replace the HH5 but you would need to either get an Openreach modem for the router to work or get a VDSLmodem/router.
Also have some questiiions about my Infinity connection.
I noticed that my Home Hub is connected with an RJ11 and not a RJ45. When I look at BT's broadband packages it says "Fibre optic broadband" when looking at the unlimited BT Infinity 2 package. As far as I know RJ11 is used for a copper and not a fibre? BT Infinity is FTTC, Fibre to the Cabinet. From the cabinet to your house is through your copper telephone cables.

  • Question about returning old hubs etc. to BT

Sorry if this isn't quite the right place to post this message, but I'm not sure where else to do so.
I have a number of old BT hubs and hub phones that I want to dispose of. I'm aware that I can request kit return bags from BT but given the quite significant number of items and the effort involved in packaging them up and taking them to a post office I'd like to know whether BT would be seriously disadvantaged were I instead to take the items to my local recycling facility and put them in with other electronic items. Formally the kit belongs to BT, and although I doubt that they'd pursue me for it I wonder whether they log its return as a means of quantifying their environmental credentials.
Incidentally the reason that I have quite a lot of items is that as friends have been sent upgraded hubs etc. they have offered me their old ones as spares, and I have always accepted. It is now time for a clear-out - before I find myself appearing on 'The Hoarder Next Door'!
    TIA.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Rest assured that I will only dispose of my surplus hubs etc. in the electrical receptacle of my local council's recycling facility. I'm well aware that such items contain some very valuable non-renewable constituents, and while the quantities in any one instance are small, this adds up to rather a lot of valuable material across the deployed base, and I'd very much like it to be recovered. Indeed it was what might be considered broadly as environmental concerns that prompted my original post: had I thought that BT would do more to recycle/recover material from surplus equipment than the council would I'd have rung up and asked for as many bags as it took, irrespective of any personal inconvenience.
Of course if BT could produce a long-life hub that could be enhanced in the future purely by software updates then this would be less of an issue. There might be some technical challenges with such an approach but I suspect anyway that it might be asking a bit much for the marketing people to adopt it.

  • Question about using USB Hub over 20 Ft

I currently have a Mac Pro which has a USB 2.0 Hub attached to it (D-Link DUB-H7) and I need to add a 2nd hub. This 2nd hub would plug into this first hub and then would need to run approximately 20 ft. I would use a powered USB 2.0 like above but am open to suggestions on other hubs also. The reason I'm doing this is this will run to another room where there will be both a USB Bar-Code Scanner and a label printer plugged into this hub. Instead of getting USB 2.0 Extension cables for each of the two items I figured the hub was my better choice. Would there be any problem with running it over this distance?

The maximum supported USB cable length is 16'. You can use a 16' cable to the hub, then cables up to 16' long to the scanner and printer.

  • Really innocuous question about the home button.

Was just wondering if the home button having a tiny amout of "play," sort of side to side, is normal.
    Thanks for humoring me.

Yes it does. When you press the Home button, it usually produces a slight clicking sound.

  • Question about powered usb hubs

Basically I would like to know if you need a powered usb hub if you wish to connect 2 ext HDs(Lacie 320gb)to an AEBS if they have their own power supply? Thanks alot

No, a powered hub is only necessary if you have multiple usb devices that require power from the hub. Printers, and hard drives, with a power plug, do not draw power from the hub.
On another note, I have a laptop drive plugged into an non powered hub, and it works with the AEBS just fine. (no external power plug) The base station apparently supplies some power, but I'm sure it's not enough for more than one drive.

  • Home hub 3 latest update

After latest update to home hub 3 event log shows alot of firewall activity is this normal or is there some other problem.

The event log on my hub is now 6 pages log - it used to be a max of 3. The hub resynched less than 2 days ago so the log runs from that time. The log categories may have changed and the firewall entries that are reported are different.
Somewhat bizzarely the hub home network page says no wireless devices connected so my laptop doesn't exist even though the IP address is within the hub range.

I have tried doing the fix on the BT site logging into the Hub changed the SIDD and set the other bit to NO. this did not work.
I then reset the XBOX to factory settings as this was in another fix, I then reset the XBOX to the Hub 4, logged on to call of duty ghosts got half way through a game it crashed out saying no conection reset to test conection.
The Hub will conect to my XBOX 360 but only stay conected for up to 14 mins at most.
Do I need to go back to my BT Home Hub 3, Can any body help its starting to be a pain. As one good person said use a wired conection that would be good, but due to location would be hard. I did think upgrading was ment to make things better not harder. Please Help.

To add, I had on online chat with BT, they said that no problems exist about XBOX 360  and the BT Home Hub to do with wifi.
If this is the case why have a fix on the BT site, that does not work may I add well not on my XBOX.
I found BT online chat not much help in this case.
    Please advise and help

  • The event logging service encountered an error (res=5) ...

    Hi,
I have promoted a new server to be a third DC.
All seems ok, replication, dns, etc are working properly but after the boot in the system event log I see those errors:
    Log Name: System
    Source: Microsoft-Windows-Eventlog
    Date: 25.5.2012 14:32:15
    Event ID: 23
    Task Category: Service startup
    Level: Error
    Keywords: Service availability
    User: LOCAL SERVICE
    Computer: dc3.x.x
    Description:
The event logging service encountered an error (res=5) while initializing logging resources for channel Microsoft-Windows-API-Tracing/Operational.
and then for about 40 Microsoft channels:
The event logging service encountered an error (res=5) while initializing logging resources for channel Microsoft-Windows-AppID/Operational.
The event logging service encountered an error (res=5) while initializing logging resources for channel Microsoft-Windows-AppLocker/EXE and DLL.
The event logging service encountered an error (res=5) while initializing logging resources for channel Microsoft-Windows-AppLocker/MSI and Script.
The event logging service encountered an error (res=5) while initializing logging resources for channel Microsoft-Windows-Audio/CaptureMonitor.
The event logging service encountered an error (res=5) while initializing logging resources for channel Microsoft-Windows-Security-Configuration-Wizard/Operational.
    etc...
There is no error event before those event id 23
    Any idea?
    Thank you

Have you checked the path of the System event log? Something similar happened to me once, turned out the log file was corrupted. I updated the path and created a new evt which solved the issue for me.
    Hopefully this helps:

  • Running Home Hub 3 as a modem? (bridged/connected ...

    Hey all.
Looking to connect a Home Hub 3 to the WAN port of a Linksys WRT54GL and have it act as a modem only, (just pass an IP address along). With the 54GL doing all the managment of my network.
Done it before with an O2 Thomson, but can't find much info full stop about the Home Hub 3 on google, so hoping someone might be able to help, or point me in the direction of some threads/guides?
I know it would be easier to just buy a decent ADSL2+ router, but the Linksys is like a member of the family.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for reply.
Got nothing against the HH3, just prefer my Linksys running CF as is capable of so much more. Initally I ended up with the O2/Linksys setup years ago as a short term bodge due to lack of funds for the decent ADSL2+ router I needed, but worked so well it got left like it and still not feeling the benefit from Wireless N is enough to justify splashing out. Gigabit ethernet would be nice, but not like I stream HD content or have NAS, so better things to spend the monies on for now.
Will have a google around on the HH2, would take a nudge in the right direction at this point, as seem to have forgotten everything I ever learned about routers lol. Cant even get Telnet access to the **bleep** thing! (swear filter fail)
    Cheers.

  • IOS Home Button and Event.ACTIVATE/Event.DEACTIVATE

    Hi all,
I read tons of questions re iOS Home Button and Event.ACTIVATE/Event.DEACTIVATE. Everything should work well if you set the proper listeners and save/restore your app state upon receiveing these events.
My question is: Is there a way to tell difference between a Home Button press and an iOS notification alert or incomming call? In both cases, AIR will dispatch Event.DEACTIVATE, however I want to know if the user pressed the Home Button or if he just received an SMS/Calendar alert, and adapt my app state accordingly - i.e. if it's a Home Button press, change my app state to "Main Menu", otherwise (SMS/Calendar/alert) I will pause execution.
NOTE: I don't want to override the Home Button behaviour, just want to tell if it's a Home Button press or SMS/Calendar/alert, and react accordingly. The iOS documentation states that in case of SMS/Calendar/alerts, (void)applicationWillResignActive:(UIApplication *)application is dispatched, and in case of actually going to background state (i.e. Home Button pressed) (void)applicationDidEnterBackground:(UIApplication *)application is dispatched.
    Thanks

Any luck with this yet? I'm having the exact same issues but on a different device, the Kindle Fire.
I need to determine whether a user hit the Home button, or hit the Quick Settings button (that accesses controls like volume). Air treats both events equally by broadcasting Event.DEACTIVATE. Unfortunately, the Amazon Appstore approval team thinks otherwise...
It seems like there should be a simple, no-brainer way to track these events, but I'm beginning to suspect Air just is not capable. In that case, if you're developing for Kindle Fire, you may want to avoid going with Adobe.

  • Home Hub 3. Constant connectivity loss. Event log ...

Trying to get any kind of service out of my BT Infinity provision nowadays is like trying to arrange a tsunami in a desert.
Time after time after time after time, the Internet is working normally but then a page refuses to refresh and attempts to open another website result only in 'page not found' even though the Internet-connection  icon is glowing steadily in the tray, and when I ask Windows to check on things, it reports that no problems have been found and the connection is working normally.
Except, of course, it isn't.  I am not a technical expert and therefore haven't much of a clue where to start with this. My Vista OS runs with Panda Cloud AV and Malwarebytes PRO and Windows Firewall, all three of which have always played nicely. Prior to switching to BT Infinity, I had 'ordinary' BT broadband via a Netgear wireless router. The service was trouble-free.
This morning, I decided to delve into BT Home Hub Manager to re-set to factory default. That in itself took some doing because clicking on the  Firefox bookmark got me nowhere at all: I had to sit here and wait for 10 minutes before the Hub page suddenly appeared as if out of nowhere.
I found in the event logs a seemingly unending chain of firewall related reports. Rather than read 'em all, I just hit re-set and whoa-hey, after a 5 or 6 minute wait, everything was fine and dandy again. . .
Until, 20 minutes later, it wasn't. Despite the re-set, Internet connectivity was shot to pieces. I'm on Amazon UK and click to open a new page in a new tab: Page Not Found. On the BBC News website, click on a link to open in a new tab: Page Not Found. Reload any of those exisdting, open pages and the reload circle just spins and spins until. . . Page Not Found.
Unfortunately, I can't make head nor tail of the log reports in the Firewall section, but typically they read:
    IN: BLOCK [16] Remote administration
BLOCKED  1 more packet [because of Remote Administration]
IN: BLOCK [9] Packet invalid in connection
BLOCKED  4 more packets (because of Packet invalid in connection)
IN: BLOCK [9] Packet invalid in connection
BLOCKED  20 more packets (because of Packet invalid in connection)
BLOCKED 40 more packets (becuase of Packet invalid in connection)
And so it goes on. . . and on. It's not even clear to me if the Home Hub is doing the blocking anyway, but if it is, then I can't begin to figure out why websites like Amazon UK, BBC News, Speedtest and even Google Maps should be BLOCKED.
Help appreciated. . . always assuming, this post actually gets through -- I've no idea if this page has gone down or not, because though it's on-screen, that no longer means anything at all.

Thanks, Ray. Just managed to get back on here, there's been virtually no connectivity at all. One odd thing has been that the Home Hub Manager has opened OK. But it is no longer in agreement with the computer about whether or not connectivity exists. For example:
    1) Click on disconnect in HH Manager, and it reports that the task has been achieved and the button changes to 'connect'.
But no disconnection has occurred. The Internet icon is still in the tray in its 'connected' state. And it's possible to go on the Net and briefly open up a website that isn't in the FF cache.   But then everything fails again. Alternatively:
    2) Click 'disconnect' in the tray control and the icon changes shows a bid red x. But the HH Manager doesn't agree. It continues to report that the computer is connected to the Internet.
I'm baffled and wearied. I'll have to relocate the Infinity set-up from downstairs to where this computer is; I'm assuming, I leave the modem in place (the new white flat thing the engineer brought when he installed Infinity)and just disconnect the black HH3 and brin g it upstairs and plug it into the PC?
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
