Questions about Changing from Thunderbird to Mail

Hi,
I recently switched over from Thunderbird from Mail. I'm liking the experience, however there are a few things I can't figure out how to replicate. If anyone could tell me how to do the following I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Hunter
How to label/tag/mark messages with colors
How to enlarge/change toolbar icons
How to add blank line before quoted message
Gmail address book lack of syncing (it stopped syncing a while back for me)

Welcome to the Discussions.
For starters, Go to Mail>Preferences..
Tab through general, accounts, viewing etc.
Here you should be able to play around for label/tag/mark with colors.
Another way to tag messages is to 'flag' them. Message>mark>flag
Also, check out view>customize tool bar...
Play around a bit and see what you find suitable and equivalent. Post back here for more info/tweaks once you are more familiar with the preferences.

  • Importing mailboxes from Thunderbird to mail

    I'm trying to Importing mailboxes from Thunderbird to mail. All it seems to do is import some, how do I get it to import all from Thunderbird.

    Two ways to go...
    1st...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
    Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
    2nd...
    Get Applejack...

    After installing, Reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
    Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
    The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
    Dump the VM files for a fresh start.

  • Question about changing a Snow Leopard Server network settings

    We have an Xserve running Mac OS X Server 10.6.8, the primary services running on it are afp, smb, dhcp, dns, jabber and the calendar sever.
    Right now we have a router connecting two networks together, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24. The Xserve has a static IP address in the 192.168.0.0/24 range.
    In order to combine two phone systems into one I am required to combine the above networks, this will involve removing the router and changing the subnet mask on every device from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.254.0, any device that is currently part of the 192.168.1.0/24 network will also need to have it's router setting changed from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1. That part should all be easy.
    However, this is my first experience expanding a network past a standard class C and am wondering if there is anything I need to watch for on my Snow Leopard Sever.
    Specifically I wonder about dhcp settings, right now there are two dhcp servers, the Xserve which provides dhcp for 192.168.0.0/24 and the router that provides dhcp for 192.168.1.0/24. Once the router is removed the Xserve will need to provide dhcp for the entire network.
    Looking at the Xserve dhcp configuration right now I have one subnet defined providing addresses 192.168.0.5 to 192.168.0.125.
    Can I simply click the + to add another subnet and add for instance a range of 192.168.1.5 to 192.168.1.125?
    Will it simply give out all of the ip addresses in the first range and then start with the 2nd? Or do I need to find a single range of ip addresses large enough to meet my needs? (e.g. 192.168.1.5 to 192.168.1.225 or something).
    Is there anythign else to watch for after making this type of network setting change?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thank you for your very detailed reply.
    I understand the problems that can arise using 192.168.0.x and 192.168.1.x and if this were a new project I would definitely switch to something else, however in this case we have been using these ip ranges for years (they were in use here long before I started) and I don't want to have to redo all of my dns settings at the same time I make these other changes so I'm going to stick with the same ip's we are using at least for now. Anyone here needing vpn access has already dealt with this issue but we  have very few vpn users so it has not been a major problem for us to date.
    My biggest question is about increasing the size of the dhcp pool. For instance, after I change all the network settings and set up a /23 network is it possible to have a single dhcp pool that includes some ip's in the 192.168.0.x range and others in the 192.168.1.x range? I guess what I am asking is when I am in Server Admin and click on DHCP one of the tabs across the top is "Subnets". Right now there is a single "subnet" configured that provides addresses from 192.168.0.5 to 192.168.0.125.
    Ideally I would like one dhcp pool that provides ip's in the range of 192.168.0.5 to 192.168.0.125 and then if all of those are used up, moves to 192.168.1.5 to 192.168.1.125. Can I do that by simply adding another "Subnet"  so there are two? Or do I have to find one larger single range? (e.g. 192.168.1.5 to 192.168.1.225?) You may have already answered this indicating I have to have a single larger range but I just want to be sure.
    The parts about changing subnet masks, and routers and all that I think I have a pretty good understanding of.
    Your last paragraph is something I have been worried about, I do have a feeling that after making this change there will probably be unforseen issues that will need to be resolved, I'm just hoping it is not too many. For the scope of this thread I will just focus on issues that may arise with the Snow Leopard Server however.
    Again, thank you for your help.

  • A question about restoring from cold backup(control file backup not clear)

    Hi,
    I had another question about restoring the cold backup. My database is in noarchivelog mode and after taking a consistent cold backup, all I need to do is to restore the backup right? -Why I got this question is because: when I backup my control file to trace, I see statements like this:-----
    -- Commands to re-create incarnation table
    -- Below log names MUST be changed to existing filenames on
    -- disk. Any one log file from each branch can be used to
    -- re-create incarnation records.
    -- ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE '/uo1/app1/arch1_1_647102958.dbf';
    -- Recovery is required if any of the datafiles are restored backups,
    -- or if the last shutdown was not normal or immediate.
    RECOVER DATABASE
    -- Database can now be opened normally.
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
    My database is in noarchivelog mode now so don't know why these statements (of register the logfile) is there in the backup of control file? so when I restore the cold backup of this database, it will still work correct? (there is no logfile I have only CRD files in cold backup -no archive log files.)
    thanks

    Thanks for your inputs! It is most useful to me.

  • Question about changing values of a total by selecting a check box.

    OK, so what I did was create a form for my workplace that totals the value an employee's quality of work. what i want this form to do is: In one cell the total is a 100 point value. In one column i have a markable checkbox and in the column next to that there is a point value for that particular category. what i want is to be able to check a box next to category and have the corresponding point value deducted from the "100" total. for example if I check the box next a value of 40, then the 100 becomes a 60 automatically. I am new to numbers, and any spreadsheet app for that matter so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Tommyboy29 wrote:
    Another question about my last post: numbers will only let me add 2 to 3 cells in the formula to change the "total" number of 100. is there a way to add more then 3 cells? i have 9 cells total that i want to have the ability to subtract from that same total?
    There is no such limit in Numbers. I'm guessing that you ran out of room in the formula edit line in the Formula Bar.
    Grab the double line and pull it down to expand the edit area.

  • Questions about upgrading from Exchange 2010 RTM to Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3

    I am preparing to perform an maintenance upgrade on our current Exchange 2010 Server, to Service Pack 3 (and any post-SP3 roll ups), but I have a couple questions about the process.
    Current Exchange Server details:
    Exchange 2010 Standard
    Version: 14.0 (Build 639.21) - from Exchange Management Console
    Version: 14.0.702.4000 - from Outook client
    Active Directory forest and domain levels: Windows 2008 R2 native
    The questions I have are:
    1.  Can I assume that because it's version 10.0.702.4000 I am on Exchange Server 2010 RTM Update Rollup 4?
    2.  Can Exchange 2010 Standard RTM be patched directly to Service Pack 3, or would I need to perform incremental patches (i.e. SP1, SP2, etc.) before going to SP3?
    3.  Do I need to manually perform the AD domain schema prep before applying Service Pack 3, or will the Service Pack 3 update process automatically handle the modifications of the AD schema?

    Hi,
    Here are my answers you can refer to:
    1. Firstly, I’d like to explain , we can use connection status to check our Exchange server version from Outlook client:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/determine-the-version-of-microsoft-exchange-server-my-account-connects-to-HA010117038.aspx
    And I check my version from both EMC and Outlook client. It’s same.
    2. We can directly update RTM version to SP3 , and the update will take an additional 30 minutes or longer per database.
    3. Since Exchange 2010 SP3 makes updates to the Active Directory schema, we need prepare AD domain schema. However, it will automatically prepare AD and the domain when you install the update.
    For more information, you can refer to the following article:

  • Importing mail from Thunderbird to Mail

    I have discovered the secret. With MobileMe and push email coming with the new iPhone 2.0 upgrade, I decided it was time to stop using Thunderbird and start using Mail. The problem was that when I began to import Thunderbird mail into "Mail" I ran into all kinds of problems - some Thunderbird mail boxes were not recognized, some were imported but had a fraction of the emails in that folder imported, and etc.
    Well, here's the solution and this is what I did - go to Eudora's web site, and find and download: "Eudora Mailbox Cleaner 4.8" - it is a small application that I saved on my desktop. Then I followed the following steps:
    1. I compacted my Thunderbird mailboxes first (choose "File → Compact Folders" from the menu in Thunderbird) to remove already deleted messages from the mails files and to speed up the migration process.
    2. Then I located my Thunderbird profile folder and dragged it onto the 'Eudora Mailbox Cleaner' icon in the Finder. Then I chose the drop-down menu item to select Thunderbird instead of Eudora (just followed the appropriate settings in the dialog, with Thunderbird as the source application which migrated my messages to Apple Mail).
    3. All my mail data from Thunderbird showed up in Mail - Import folder - when I restarted Mail.
    4. One more step - I then had to select each imported folder and go to the Menu item: "Mailbox/Rebuild" and the folder that looked empty was filled with all the imported messages.
    5. It was slick, and I made the 3 days I had fretted over the process, trying everything I could think of, seem like a distant bad dream.
    Paul Huddle
    P.S. When you download the Eudora app, it comes with a read-me that explains way more then is needed to complete the process.

    You’d get better results if you use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to do the conversion instead.

  • Import mail boxes from Thunderbird crashes mail!

    Has anyone any idea what I can do to ensure Mail does not crash when I import mail boxes from Thunderbird?
    I would love to us Mail but unless I can bring my mailboxes it isn't happening.
    Is there a file size limit or is Mail for Mac just flakey?

    Could you please explain the whole process of exporting mail from Snow to Lion. I have been trying for weeks on two diffrent computers and I can not get it to work.
    I have moved the library, not sure to delete the envelopes. How do you export the  mbox-files ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Question about changing frame rate from PAL to NTSC

    Hi,
    Usually, I would use JES Deinterlacer for changing the 25 fps of PAL into 29.97 NTSC.
    Recently I've started shooting with Sony's EX-3, full HD (in PAL mode)
    If I'm using JES Deinterlacer, the resolution would drop from 1920x1080 to 720x480 (adding 2 black rectangles to keep the 16:9 ratio)
    With the 720x480 res I would need to choose 4:3 aspect in iDVD.
    I'm somewhat confused here...Can I keep the original resolution of 1920x1080 and just use another software for changing the frame rate...then burn it with iDVD in widescreen 16:9? Is there anything like JES for that? Or does NTSC DVD means always 720x480?
    Thanks a lot!
    ymotion

    You could try doing it in compressor>advanced format conversions. Personally I like taking it to a terranex, but I also have had GREAT success with Graeme Nattress's standards converter. You can google it, or search this forum for a link. It's cheap, only a hundred bucks or so.
    1. Convert the footage pal to ntsc, no frame size change
    2. Open compressor and select the appropriate setting for the length of your video. And also add the dolby audio setting. Don't forget the anamorphic settings noted above.
    3. I don't remember anything at all about idvd, haven't used it since DVDSP came out. DVDSP allows you a whole host of display parameters and infinite customization for your projects. It'll only take you a couple of hours to figure it out, and those are hours well spent.

  • Question about importing from mac mail to folder in address book

    Is it possible to place imported email addresses (Mac email) into specific folder(s) in Address Book rather than into just the All Folder.? For example, I have several business addresses that I want to import from Mac Mail automatically into my Business Folder and several others that I want to go into Friends Folder. Can this be done? If so how? Thanks
    iMac Intel Duo 20" Mac OS X (10.4.10)
      Mac OS X (10.3.7)

    The Address Book database is similar to the iTunes database and iPhoto database.
    If you use iTunes then you know you can't place a song in a playlist without the song being in the primary iTunes database first and the same with iPhoto. You can't place a photo in an album with the photo being in the main iPhoto library first.
    The same with Address Book. You can't place a contact in an Address Book group without the contract being in the primary Address Book "All" Group and I'm not aware of a way to place a contact in the primary All group and in a designated group at the same time.

  • I'm moving from Thunderbird to Mail and have a question.

    I've succesfully imported my mailboxes and messages using Eudora Mailbox Cleaner. I have two mail accounts, one on dotmac and one on roadrunner. Mail set up my accounts with each inbox under an Inbox header, both junkboxes under a junk header, etc.
    I want to set up the left pane of mail so that each account will have its own inbox, junk, etc under it, but have no idea how to do this. Mails hepl says this can be done with a rule, but as a newcomer to Mail I have no idea how.
    Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Harold,
    - set up your new Mailboxes (using the + sign bottom left)
    - highlight one email in your std IN box
    - open Mail / preferences / rules
    - (if you do not see Rules as one of the options, expand your window size)
    - Add rule
    - just follow the steps, play with it, see what works.
    - read the Manual on rules
    - don't use Rules immediately on entire mailboxes, test the rule first by selecting a mail, press Option-Apple-L and see if your mail ends up in the right box.
    - beware that rules are executed in order from the top down, so e.g. if you include some basic junk rule early in that list, it may take priority over your other rules.

  • Question about changing zonepath from one mount point to another

    Hi all
    A local zone is currently running with its zonepath, say /export/home/myzone, mounted on a Veritas volume. Is it possible to change the zonepath to a different mount point, say /zone/myzone, which is mounted on the same volume, without re-installing the entire zone?
    Regards
    Sunny

    Yes..
    U can use zonecfg to reconfigure the zone..
    which is Sun's supported way..
    I just usually edit /zones/zone-name.xml
    There are several ways to move a zone, but this has
    always worked for me..
    - stop the zone
    - tar the zone
    - move the zone
    - edit the /etc/zones/zone-name.xml (to reflect the new path)
    - detach the zone
    - attach the zone (so it regnerates the hash)
    - boot the zone

  • Questions about moving from Mobile Me to iCloud

    I just upgraded my iPhone to iOS5 and am curious about the move to iCloud for my mobileme account.  I know there are articles out there, but they seem very generic and do not put my fears to rest.
    Here are my questions and concerns. I figure they will be easy for a lot of you to answer, but I need to pose them before I make the jump.
    1.)  Do I need Lion to move to iCloud?  (from the articles I read I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but I thought I'd clarify)
    2.)  I have more than one mobileme account that has calendars and mail synced on my computer.  If I upgrade one account do I have to upgrade the other at the same time for iCal and Mail to work?
    3.)  My husband's mobileme account syncs his work calendar.  It is very important that I don't lose his information and that his calendar works flawlessly after the upgrade.  Has anyone run into problems with the calendar syncing?  I will not move anyone's accounts if iCloud is still experiencing a lot of bugs.  I will of course make a backup copy of his calendar before upgrading, but his calendar changes often and is synced to two iMacs, a Macbook Pro, Mac Mini, an iPad and an iPhone it will not be practical to keep track of his calendar and if it is syncing properly.
    4.)  How do I actually make the switch to iCloud once I make up my mind to do it?  My Phone told me to sign into me.com to do this, but when I signed in I didn't see how to say that I wanted to use the iCloud.  Maybe this is because I haven't upgraded to Lion yet?
    Thanks!

    I am curious about the comment you can only use one iCloud account at a time. Right now I have my moblieme calendar and my husband's mobileme calendar both visible in iCal.  That is very convenient for us because then he doesn't have to open up a separate user on the iMac just to check his calendar (this is our home computer that is mainly mine).  Are you telling me that I won't be able to use both CalDAV accounts in iCal anymore?  Will it force me to use only one?
    Most of our music and videos was purchased under my .mac account, so iTunes isn't a problem, but we like to share one user on the computer and still be able to see both our calendars and e-mail.

  • Question about changes in currentRow

    Dear Community,
    In Creator 2004Q4 data tables you can use the "currentRow" in value binding expressions as currentRow['column']. Now with Creator 2, one must use currentRow.value['column']. I would like to know what else has changed about this. Can any of you explain or point me to the appropiate tutorial/article about the currentRow concept?
    Thank you in advance.
    Antonio.

    As far as I can recall, nothing besides the notation
    has changed. Under the covers, currentRow is a
    temporary request attribute used when iterating the
    rows of a table. As such, it can be used in binding
    expressions. We changed the notation when we
    introduced data providers. The new notation ensures
    when evaluating an expression that what you want is
    the value for the current row and the specified field
    key. (To get the value, the data provider's getValue
    method will be called.)Thank you for your answer. I have a more specific question:
    I'm using arrays of DTO (Data Transport Objects) with Tables. Everything wasf fine until I've had to deal with a DTO with a nested class, ie:
    public class MyHelperDTO {
      private String name;
      public String getName() {
        return name;
      public void setName(String name) {
        this.name = name;
    public class MyDTO {
      private Long id;
      public Long getId() {
        return id;
      public void setId(Long id) {
        this.id = id;
      private MyHelperDTO helpDTO;
      public MyHelperDTO getHelpDTO() {
        return this.helpDTO;
      public void setHelpDTO(MyHelperDTO helpDTO) {
         this.helpDTO = helpDTO;
    }It is possible to access the properties of the inner DTO from a currentRow, ie. currentRow.value['helpDTO'].value['name']? I've actually solved in another way, but I'm still curious about it.
    Thank you in advance.
    Antonio.
