Questions about  Designer

Hello,
I am new in this forum and in Oracle Designer also.
I have started to work with Designer last month,
I am learning to use it,
and I have a question :
- what is the difference between Template object and object library???? waht ares the uses of both them ?
- waht is the difference between Designer et Designer headstart?
thanks for your help ans have a good day,

I'll give you my opinion based on my experience...
Templates serves as 'skeletons' of generated forms and reports. You use them to define global appearance and functionalities of the module, but not details like specific item properties.
The object libraries define the details of the generated objects, like items, canvas, windows. Many properties you can't define using templates, but can do using object libraries.
Usually to generate an app you rely on both templates and object libraries, as well on preferences.
I've never used headstart, but I think it's a kind of "add-on" to Designer, with pre-customized templates, object libraries etc (maybe it can be thought as a framework?)

  • A question about design of Java Application on java card.

    Hi every one,
I have a question about design of Java applet on java card,
There is an application on my card that it is not java card, it include a DF and some EF under DF, I would like to know if I want to have this application on java card ,how can I design DF and EF on java card ,I mean is there any relation between DF,EF with applet and file? for example can I say DF is same as applet and EF is same as file?
I'll appreciate for any help .
    yours sincerely,
    orchid

    hi
you can write a java class for DF.
an instance of DF class have some EF objects.
    for example,
    samples/com/sun/javacard/samples/JavaPurse/CyclicFile.java
    implements ISO 7816 CyclicFile ( EF )

  • Question about Design Standard licence

    Hi!
I would like to know, when you buy a licence Design Standar, this is only for one computer or you can install it on 2?
I'm trying to understand also about volume licence.. This is useful only when you have how much computer? we are going to have maybe a maximum of 6 computer using that suite.
    Thanks!

  • Question about design pattern - business delegate

    hi guys
i have got a question to ask about the delegate pattern. usually, we use it to decouple between presentation client and businessservice tiers. for instance, the service tier has an session ejb, and delegate wrapps the ejb. and the web client calls delegate to access service. is the delegate only used by the presentation tier? within the service tier, we can have many ejbs that work together to get tasks done. do we still use delegates in the service tier? what is ur suggestion? thanks

  • A question about design.

I have a program I wrote using Visual Basic that I use at my church to print a deposit slip for our weekly offerings.  A pretty simple program.  I enter the check information (giver name, check number, amount) or cash and put that data in a list
box.  I also total the cash & check amounts to print on a deposit slip.  One aspect of the program is that I store the name and address of anyone who gives to the church and at the end of the year I print a letter giving them the total of their
offerings throughout the year so they can deduct it on their income tax forms.  The names and address are keep in a simple access database.
Now, I have added the capability to insert the check in a Magtek MICR check reader and using the account number on the check (which I have stored in the database in the same table that holds the names) I can get the name of the person making the contribution
along with the check number.  Then I just enter the amount, hit enter and I'm ready for the next check.
Here is the problem (and it's not a big one): some of our members have two or more checking accounts so I end up with two rows with duplicate information in my database.  My question is should I create another table with the account number and a key
pointing to the member name?  I know, I've been kinda wordy for such a simple question but I really want the views of the members of this forum.
    Thanks in advance.
    Philip

    Philip,
Just thinking out loud. How about having seperate tables for the personal info, account and contribution?? Something like below:
    Person
PersonID, Name, Address and other personal details
    BankAccount
    Account_ID, PersonID, Branch_details etc.
    Donation:
    Donation_ID, Person_ID, Account_ID, Check_Number, Amount, Datetime etc.
So you can have a track of all names and accounts seperately. Now for the contributions, if a person has given two checks each with different bank account, the same can be captured distinctly with the combination of Account, Check and Donation id. The Person_ID
can be removed from the last table if we can assume that each account maps to only one person (eliminating the possibility of shared accounts)
    Thanks,
    Jay

  • Question about design - use patch-panels or switches in racks?

I'm trying to suggest should I use patch-panels in server 19" racks and use stand-alone telecomm racks for access layer switches
    OR
should I install 2-3 access layer switches in every server rack?
First version looks more correct, but than I have to use MUCH MORE cables, organizers etc - all of it eats place in data-center.
Maybe someone saw some guides for that question?
    Thanks!

2 or 3 access layer switches in every server rack? Considering typical stand-alone rack switches offer 24 or 48 ports, how many servers per rack or how big are these racks?! Or, were your intended access layer switches only 4 port switches?! (laugh)
The main disadvantage of rack switches, you either run out of ports or have too many ports. Since server hosts often push bandwidth harder than user hosts, you also have the issue of how much aggregate bandwidth you need to move out of an individual rack. These issues are better addressed by your suggestion of using patch panels from each rack that come to a network switch rack.
You're correct, all the cables, and their organization, has an expense, but this has to be considered against switch costs. Assuming you intend to use Enterprise switches that offer gig to the servers and perhaps 10 gig uplinks, there's a cost to having extra swiches by deploying to each rack. Also switches per rack would disallow the advantages you might find with a chassis switch in a switch rack. Further, depending on performance to provide, do you want to be limited by uplink bandwidth from each rack, or pay for high bandwidth from each rack that's usually underutilized.
Besides "looking right", the foregoing is often why there are server rack patch panels, etc.
One design, that I found interesting, was using the 3750 "stacked" across racks (guess you could do same with newer 2975s).

i have got a question to ask about the delegate pattern. usually, we use it to decouple between presentation client and businessservice tiers. for instance, the service tier has an session ejb, and delegate wrapps the ejb. and the web client calls delegate to access service. is the delegate only used by the presentation tier? within the service tier, we can have many ejbs that work together to get tasks done. do we still use delegates in the service tier? what is ur suggestion? thanks

thanks, but i don't think i follow what u said.
bascially i was asking if it was still a good idea to use delegates to communicate between ejbs the same way presentation tier calls service tier. i.e. SessionEJBA calls DelegateB to access SessionEJBB. or SessionEJBA calls SessionEJBB directly including the lookup, etc.

  • Other question about Designer 6i Installation

Hi. I hope somebody help me !
I Installed Designer 6i (client side) in a Win98 machine. Then I installed Personal Oracle 8i successfully in the same machine. I'm tryin to install Designer's server side. The Tablespaces, roles, repository owner user and other necessary objects are already created. When I tryed to Install the repository through the Repository Administration Utility, I get the following message:
Warning: Oracle with Enterprise Edition Option is not present. Retry Repository Installation after resinstalling this option.
What that means and How I do that ?

Thanks for your answer David. That means there's no way to run Designer 6i and Oracle on the same Win98 PC ?

  • A few questions about the design of the scheme

    Hello, all!
I want ask some question about design of the scheme.
    1) If i store info about user (for example: /Smith/Bob - /phone values{+1 964 258 46 52}), i can request information by user (input parameters: /Smith/Bob - /phone, output:+1 964 258 46 52), but if i want get username by phone i must generate in store second string /19642584652 values{Smith Bob}. But I must duplicate any string - very prodigally. Are existing some work aruond?
    2) if i want store some string with different minor key i put: ( /Smith/Bob - /phone, /Smith/Bob - /image, /Smith/Bob - /adress), but i already get duplicate date. Are existing any compressin major`s key? If yes - how it works
    3) Are existing in Oracle NoSQL something like secondary index? If exist - how it works?
    4) If i want get value by major key, im use get function(for example /Smith/Bob - /phone). How works searching algoritm? What mathematical basis of search?

    >
So, some a few clarifying questions.
    1) Request comes from the client(to cluster). It identifies the major key. And any rep group understand: contained in it is this line?
    2) If contains - they use b-tree map to find the right key (as local index in Oracle DB).
    Is it correct?
    >
No. Please read the doc and the other forum threads. They explain this issue.
    >
Can i use any different algoritm to search, different indexes(function based) for example (on step 2)?
    >
    No.
when the expected release of this option?Oracle employees cannot talk about future release dates and contents.
What algorithm used to compress the prefix of the key. And how it work`s.If you're interested in the implementation details you can read the BDB JE documentation on key prefixing and the BDB JE source code. See com.sleepycat.je.DatabaseConfig.setKeyPrefixing.

  • About design and architecture....

where i can find docs or info about design and architecture of a game ????

You could try Gamasutra.com. They tend to have quite a bit about various aspects of game design and programming. Also, you can check this forum for threads on it. Some people have posted questions about designing either specific games within a genre or just specific games and gotten some great feedback (one thread on game design of recent memory is Clue/Cluedo). GameDev.net has some good programming tutorials and chatter to this end also, I'm sure. Just search on here, on the net, and other places, and I'm sure you'll find something.

In Design CS 5.5 --- Question about Leader Dots ("RIGHT TAB")
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4kiyByY4A0
    Can anyone help???

Apply a Character style to the tab character—don't try and do it from the Paragraph style. You can stay with a period as the leader and manipulate the size and spread of the dots via the character style. So here I've applied the Leader character style to the tab or the right indent tab and changed the point size and tracking of the style to make a leader with smaller dots and more spacing:

  • Question about service layer design

I have a question about the design/architecture of service model layers, specifically the task service layer.
Could a task service be a small "action", ie an operation that doesn't require composition? So if I have a requirement to allow customers to update their personal info, like address, would I have a task service named ChangeCustomerMailingAddress, that in turn calls the update operation on the Customer entity? Or would it be better to call the entity service directly? Another example would be retrieving data, like RetrieveCustomerBillingHistory, would that be a separate task service, or just a get/read operation on the Customer entity service?
    Any insight is appreciated.
    Thanks

You seem to be confused what all the different parts of Java do.
JRE - runtime environment, the minimum needed to run standard java applications
Java Standard Edition - the standard set of API's that form the base of most java applications. You need the J2SE SDK to compile these applications and the JRE to run them.
Now talking about "application design", I'm not sure what you mean. Are you talking about graphical user interfaces? In that case you would want to look into Swing, and that is indeed part of the standard edition API set.

  • Design question about when to use inner classes for models

This is a general design question about when to use inner classes or separate classes when dealing with table models and such. Typically I'd want to have everything related to a table within one classes, but looking at some tutorials that teach how to add a button to a table I'm finding that you have to implement quite a sophisticated tablemodel which, if nothing else, is somewhat unweildy to put as an inner class.
The tutorial I'm following in particular is this one:
    http://www.devx.com/getHelpOn/10MinuteSolution/20425
I was just wondering if somebody can give me their personal opinion as to when they would place that abstracttablemodel into a separate class and when they would just have it as an inner class. I guess re-usability is one consideration, but just wanted to get some good design suggestions.

It's funny that you mention that because I was comparing how the example I linked to above creates a usable button in the table and how you implemented it in another thread where you used a ButtonColumn object. I was trying to compare both implementations, but being a newbie at this, they seemed entirely different from each other. The way I understand it with the example above is that it creates a TableRenderer which should be able to render any component object, then it sets the defaultRenderer to the default and JButton.Class' renderer to that custom renderer. I don't totally understand your design in the thread
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=57&threadID=680674
quite yet, but it's implemented in quite a bit different way. Like I was saying the buttonClass that you created seem to be creating an object of which function I don't quite see. It looks more like a method, but I'm still trying to see how you did it, since it obviously worked.
Man adding a button to a table is much more difficult than I imagined.

  • Design question about SNASw, DLSW and VDLC

    Hello,
I have a question about Ethernet redundancy in an APPN environment.
Let's have an example with 3 routers running SNASw that are on the SAME LAN (no vlans) as the Mainframe's OSA (one OSA only). APPN is configured on the Mainframe.
Using DLSw+, all downstream PUs are connected to the 3 routers. Can I define in the VDLC interface of each router the SAME MAC address, and this MAC address be the destination MAC of the downstream PUs?

    Hi,
yes, headend routers are the ones in front of the OSA/mainframe.
If you replace a tokenring with ethernet in the data center/headend, than the snasw dlsw solution is almost perfect for you. If you use hpr/ip to connect upstream to the host you are all set.
In that case you dont advertise any mac addresses on the local ethernet between the snasw/dlsw routers and the osa since it is hpr/ip. Basicaly ip routing only.
From the clients perspective, they dont really know that there is a change since you replicate the old tokenring mac address as vdlc mac address/snasw port and the end systems still connect to them like they did before.
In respect to dlsw ethernet redundancy we have to be a bit carefull not to mix the scenarios.
Dlsw ethernet redundancy is designed for the branch. Not the data center.
If you use dlsw ethernet redundancy with ethernet switches, and in almost all cases today ethernet means ethernet switches, you configure a mac address mapping between artificiall local mac addresses and your real remote mac address of the host.
On each router you configure a unique local mac address. Than you point half of your end systems dmac to the local mac address configured on router1 and the other half to the local mac address configured on router2. That way you achive load balancing.
The two routers exchange their mapping and in case router1 looses the connection to router2, router1 will activate the mapping it learned from router2 aswell and then take over those circuits additional.
If you decide that you configure on router1 the local mac address equal to the remote mac address, because you have a large number of clients and can not simply change the damc's on all of them, than you need to configure a "dummy" mapping on router2 and router1 will get all the circuits in this example. router2 would be purely for redundancy in case router1 goes down.
If you think about this than it is clear why dlsw ethernet redundancy is designed for the branch. In the branch we map local to remote mac addresses and the remote mac addresses are the hosts. Typically there are only a limited number of host mac addresses to map.
If you turn this around and put dlsw ethernet redundancy on the host end than you have to map all clients. If you have only one or two clients this is certainly doable. But if you have a large nuber of clients this is simply not manageable.
    thanks...

  • Question about singleton design

    Hi all
i have a question about singleton design. as i understood it correctly, this pattern garantees us a single instance of a class at any time. in a environment of concurrent access(multiple user access at the same time) , does this single instance put a constraint on concurrency(singleton == synchronization)? i have developed a service object that reads in properties and constructs some other objects. the reason i made it singleton is that i only want this service object to load the properties once. and when it is called to create other objects, it always has one copy of the propertis. making this service singleton, will it limit the threads to access it and construct other objects? thanks for your help.

If there's no write access to the HashMap, then
you're thread safe. You were probably typing at the same time as the previous post, which explicitly says there IS write access to the HashMap.
I don't know what it is, but people seem to have this magical view of concepts. Singleton is just what it is. It doesn't have a magical aura that causes other things to behave differently. A singleton is just Java code that can have thread safety problems just like any other Java code. So to the OP: forget about the fact that this is a singleton. That's irrelevant. Ask if a method needs to be synchronized.
(And yes, a method that tests if a variable is null and assigns an object to it if it isn't null does need to be synchronized if it's going to have multiple threads accessing it.)
