Questions about exporting to full quality?

Hey there -
I just wanted to make sure that if I want to give my friend back a DV file from the converted tape that I choose Export, then Full Quality? I know that creates one file vs individual clips but her tape was one long one, I did chapter markers for the dvd and make splits but I don't think she wants those (some are arbitrary, e.g. the tape was long than an hour so iMovie HD split it into two clips). So, I just want to be sure that that's the right choice for exporting?
And, on that, does that remove transitions or keep them?
Lastly, there is a weird screen in QuickTime in the resulting file. It's a colorblock screen of sorts - a whole punch of pixels (big TV ones, not sure what they are called) in a bunch of colors. It's happening RIGHT at the end of the footage - not thrilled about it but it is the DV file, I guess. Depending on answer to above, I may at least extend the end transition so it doesn't make future editing difficult. Any way to eliminate it from happening?
Thanks for your help -

+You should be able to move the cursor frame-by-frame with the arrow keys to get to the precise 'cut' point.+
I know - it's strange but I lost a few seconds of just black screen at the end - I even went back and checked against the actual movie. At any rate, I'm slicing them off carefully and now am adding just a few seconds of still time at the end so it's not an issue.
+What exactly is it that your friends want to do with the digitized footage? I recommend that you make them a DVD of the edited movie, and then export the movie back to the camcorder so they also have a digital mini DV tape of it. This way, they can view the DVD to see their movie and show to others, but they also have a backup on tape.+
Ah, let's see - somehow I've agreed to convert a bag full of VHSC and VHS tapes (and hours and hours of my life for footage that's not even my family!) At any rate, I am giving them the deluxe end product - a customized movie with smoother transitions and chapters, a customized DVD menu with images and chapters (and music, if it fits) and a customized case and printed DVD (Taiyo Yuden printed Watershield DVD). Yes, the works. So, then I told them to buy a external HDD and I would move the resulting DV files to it so they would have them should the ever want to use the footage again (e.g. make an "anniversary" montage that pulls in just clips from their wedding, or a wedding montage for their kids that includes the baby footage that I digitized.) So, they have the VHSC and VHS originals, they'll have the movie on DVD and they were going to have the DV files on a hard drive of the appropriate size. That was my recommendation since the problem was that the tapes sat around in the first place - they aren't going to convert them without help. But, if that's the "best" option for longer-lasting backup, I can offer it to them.
+If this were for your use, I would recommend that you also create a disk image of the iDVD project as backup. ...Because the disk image file is self-contained, you can safely delete the iMovie and iDVD projects without losing the ability to burn DVDs of the iDVD project that is now saved as the disk image. You use Disk Utility (or Toast if you have it) to burn the actual DVD disk.+
That is the best advice I could have received! I hadn't really figured out what I was going to do with the actual iMovie and iDVD projects after I was finished. I was reluctant to delete b/c - ahem - they've come back to me after 2 months of the last project and asked for another copy!!! But, I've already added one external for this, I can't house their memories in various forms forever. So, if I do the disk image, I'll retain the ability to make the disk - that's exactly what I need. I've already been caught once by the dreaded "you've updated the move file" bug once, simply because I had opened the original iMovie project - and I had to build the whole DVD again (and it had 24 chapters!)
Thanks so much for the counsel on the disk image - I had heard about it but just wasn't sure how I should directly apply it to these projects.
Appreciate it!

  • Yet another question about exporting and video quality

    Kind people,
I know this question has been asked many, many times, and I have searched and read up of the topic, but I would also like to ask it.
I shot my video on a Canon Vixia HF10, downloaded it to Final Cut Express to edit, exported it as Quick Time Movie, dropped it in iDVD, then played it on my TV and the quality was…..not good. The video was a little fuzzy and there were ghosts. Are there any settings I should go back and check in iDVD.
    Wolfgang

    Hi(Bonjour)!
What is the format recorded by this camera?
How did you capture/ingest your video material in FCE?
What was your sequence format in timeline?
How did you export your sequence (specify exact steps, menus and command)?
What was your iDVD project settings?
What was the iDVD quality setting?
Did you monitor your DVD on computer screen or TV set?

  • Video freezes when exporting to Full Quality

[Background: I've been working on a video project in iMovie HD that I'm doing in pieces - exporting each section of the video at full quality when it's done, so that later I can put them all together in a new project.]
Lately I've been having major problems exporting to full quality Quicktime files. The exported video freezes a few frames in, though the audio continues to play normally. This does not happen if I save it to a smaller quality, say, Web Streaming.
I'm having trouble seeing a pattern in how/why/when this happens, too. I have successfully exported movies to full quality both before and after movies that export incorrectly. The first project that had this happen, I decided to reassemble bit by bit to find out if something specific was causing the problem. Turns out that Full Quality exporting started having this problem if I had added titles. After jumping through something like 50 hoops - exporting little pieces, reimporting, exporting just the titles, etc., etc - I managed to work around the issue. Bit of a headache but all seemed to be well.
BUT, the frozen video problem soon happened again. The next time I had this trouble exporting, there were no titles in the project at all, and the problem instead occurred once I added music. So there does not seem to be a pattern within iMovie itself. This makes me think it's either a Quicktime problem or something to do with my computer itself. I have 2GB of memory, 37GB of space left on my hard drive, and I'm running Quicktime 7.4.1 and iMovie HD 6.0.4.
Please help! I'm on a bit of a deadline, too. This is driving me crazy!

Thanks Matt. I am in the same boat as many people have obviously been in - trying to burn a DVD to a film fest deadline of tomorrow, and after 4 hours of trying to make a disk image, getting 'error during burn'.
    I have one question.
    a) In imovie, I clicked the 'create iDVD' button to create this project - which has problems burning.
    b) Now if I simply try to drag that .mov file into the iDVD pane as you suggest, is that identical to what I have done in a) - in that we're operating with the same basic animal. Of so
    c) I should try the process of exporting to .dv, reimporting to new imovie, redoing chapter markers and THEN dragging the package .mov to the iDVD pane - hoping that chapter markers are preserved.
Oh ... someone said one should try to save the .mov as a sel contained file. is that necessary?
Thank you for sitting in front of you Mac!

  • Imovie hd low quality when export in "full quality"

    Hi
i made one hour of a movie with Imovie hd. When i exported to "full quality"
is not equal to the original!
I imported photos from iphoto, all in hi definition and i inserted audio track and Ken b. effects.
I have to view this movie on the screen display but i dont't know what export i have to use
I tried full all kind of export: quality, mpeg4, but the result is not good. Help !
Must i play from IMOVIE? But the movie flikering because of the rendering in progress.
Must i change application? Can u help me?

Welcome fabrizio to the  iMovie boards ..
first of all: iMHD is optimized and meant for TV delivery.. interlaced, low res video on TVs.. therefore, the quality of an iM is never comparable with a HiRes still on a computer's screen..
knowing that, there's another issue: your FullQualiyt does contain FQ, but the QTplayer doesn't show it... the socalled 'high flag' for playback isn't set..
    example:
same file ( ! ), see the difference on playback, actual screenshots: 'high' not set (1), 'high' set in QTpro (Apple-J, video, playback high) pic#2 ...
free tools as Mpeg Streamclip allow to set the high-flag into a given .mov ...
last comment: for 'computer only' delivery, consider usage of 3rd party apps as Boinx' FotoMagico http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/

  • Export a Full Quality QuickTime Movie for CD

Hello - I have an 11 min. movie, that contains mostly pics, but also some video - I will be giving it to someone to play on there computer, which will also project onto a screen, during a wedding reception. She just wants to be able to load it into her computer - what is the most effective way of doing this?
I thought about exporting to a 720x480 Quicktime movie, using Qtime Conversion in FCP, and H.264 compression - is there a better way, so that it will show the best quality? After burning the movie to a QT file onto a CD, I thought I would then give to her to download - is this the proper way to do this type of thing?
Any suggestions are most appreciated as always - thank you...

    KL -
That might be fine... thing is you WANT to have her test it. Sometimes playing large files like this (yes, even at h264) can choke a pc pushing it out to a projection unit.
I like putting it back to tape and sending it full rez out of a deck or other video camera.
I never trust PCs to even play a DVD out.

  • Export in Full Quality??

With iMovie '06, all I had to do was click on "Full Quality" when exporting to have the video export in the same quality that it had been in as I was working on it. I can't find any way to do that with iMovie '11. I've tried Export Medium & Export Large, Export to Quicktime Broadband High as well as the default option, and every time the final video comes out fuzzy and not nearly as clear as the project I had been working on. The material is not in HD, but nevertheless the final exported product is always much lower quality than what it should be.
Someone please tell me there's a way to export my video without vastly reducing the video quality. Thanks

    Hi
The problem is - What do You mean by Full Quality. It's very different if Your original material is
    • miniDV tape PAL or NTSC refered to as DV and 25 or 29.97fps
    • DVPRO
    • DV-HD
    • DV Widescreen (16x9)
    • HDV 1080i
    • HDV 720p
    • MPEG-4
    • iSight
    • MPEG-2 from Cameras that records on DVD or miniDVD - some versions are OK
    • .mov
    • .avi
    • AVCHD (= H.264)
And - where You aim Your movie
    • as a DVD
    • YouTube
    • AppleTV
    • else
IF You are as Me in miniDV tape age and aiming to do a DVD as result.
Then and Only Then - iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - are not the tools to USE as they all discard every second line
in interlaced video on export - How-ever You trie to do it. Not Possibly.
    Tools to use are
    • iMovie up to HD6
    • FinalCut any version Express or Pro
To re-install iMovie HD6 - You need the iLife 6 Disks or the one that Came with Your old Mac.
From here You must seek the forum to figure out exact steps - Has been delivered several times during the Years.
As I get it iMovie'11 has to be removed first - then iMovie HD6 installed then put application into a folder
named iMovie Previous versions - Then iMovie'11 can be re-installed.

  • Sql developer: question about exporting data

    Hi,
we're recently working with sql-developer. i've got a question about how we can export query results to txt/csv files for use in other applications.
First a problem: if we start a query that looks like this:
    select * from
    select * from A where start_date = &date
    ) a,
    select * from B where start_date = &date
    ) b
    where a.name = b.name
Sql-developer asks twice to input a value for the variable 'date', although it's the same variable and it's supposed to have the same value.
We solve this by making a script:
first we define the variable, then we put the query.
When we start the script, the query runs ok and sql developer asks to input the value for the variable once.
But now the result of the query is shown in the script output. The script output seems to be limited in number of lines and difficult to export.
So my question is: what's the best way to export query results to txt/csv files, avoiding the problem mentioned above?
i hope there is a solution where we can use a single query or script.
    Thanks in advance!

Using bind variables like ":date" should solve the problem of being asked twice for the same thing.
Executing the query normally (F9), gives you the export options you require through the context menu inside the Results grid.

    K.

  • Question about exporting FBL3N data in Pivot table format

    Dear all
I have a question about the "exporting file" function of ECC 6.0.
We started to use ECC 6.0 system, and it appears that we are no longer able to export "FBL3N data" to a local PC in pivot table format.
Is there a way to do it?
We used to be able to do so when the system is 4.6.
    I appreciate your support!
    Kind regards

    Dear:
You can do that. Execute report FBL3N with desired GL account in it. After when report has been executed right click on it. There will be an option Spread Sheet. Select all available format. In drill down select 08 (Excel in existing XXL format) and press OK. There you will get pivot table option for downloading., Hope this will help you resolve your query.

  • Exporting a full quality MPEG-4 in FCP?

i did a video for someone and they want the full quality video as an h.264/MPEG-4. Can i do this in FCP? I thought the way to get a full quality vid in FCP was to go to file export quicktime movie... So wouldnt the full quality vid be a .mov? - can i get it as a h.264/mpeg-4 while keeping it full quality?
also a 3 minute video doing this is a little over 2 gigs. is there a send it website that can handle files this large?

A .mov file is just a container...something to tell the computer "this is a quicktime movie." It can any one of a DOZEN or more codecs...including H.264 and MPEG-4, and ProRes and DVCPRO HD. And yes, you can export a full sized H.264. Meaning 1920x1080, or 1280x720...but it will be compressed from whatever format you have it as now. Converting anything to another format will be compressing it. FULL QUALITY means uncompressed...so no, you can't have a FULL QUALITY compressed file type. But, it will be full sized. And the compression of h.264 is darn good.
As for sending the file, you can use YouSendIt if you pay a fee. Or get an FTP site....a server.

  • Export using Full Quality stops responding

Two times now I have experienced iMovie06 hanging (not responding) at the end of a full-quality QT export of a 40+ minute video. It actually is showing 100% done, and the resulting DV file contains everything. Just sort of disconcerting - I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this..

How much free space is on your hard drive? You might check your system.log/console.log files when this happens and see if any hints are shown. You can view your log files by using Applications>Utilities>console.app. Select the "Logs" icon and select one of the two files.

  • Quick question about exporting to Flash

Is there a way to get the same quality when you export a cpv
project to Flash, as when you preview it in Captivate?
Are changes in mouse paths, sounds, and picture quality after
transferring normal? Or are they supposed to look exactly the same
    as they do in Captivate?
I'd just like to rule out one or the other.

    Hi ksonta
One would expect to see that everything survived the
export/import process in full clarity. In a perfect world, that is.
Unfortunately, Captivate doesn't yet "talk" to Flash as
cleanly as we would like. You might question this by asking "Aren't
they both Adobe products? Why not?"
And I would fundamentally agree with you in theory. But the
fact is, Adobe hasn't had either product all that long. Adobe
bought Macromedia. Macromedia had Flash. Macromedia also had
Captivate, but they bought Captivate from another company called
eHelp. Heck, even eHelp bought the product from yet another company
called Nexus Concepts. So Captivate has a long and colorful
    history.
Hopefully the next version will bring us seamless and perfect
    exporting and importing from Flash.
Currently I'm aware of an issue with Background images being
"shrunken". Maybe the export/import process has too much hot water?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Questions about exporting PSDS(so as PNG, TIFF with transparency) by AI CS4 and newer

Hello, I've got this question as titled...I stll can't figure it out why.
I'm now using WIN version of AI CS6, and I've used CS4, CS5 before.
Why does AI CS4(and the newers) export transparent PSD files which are always with blank transparent thin border(about 2~3px) line in the right and down side ?
This situation hasn't happened in CS3 and CS2.
The PSD files I intended to export are about A4 size with 300 dpi, sometimes with 150dpi, in RGB/CMYK/Grayscale color modes.
If  someone as well-experienced as all you seniors can tell me the reason or even solutions i'll be very thankful to your reply.

    Thank your reply first
I totally agree with your opinion, it's really an annoying bug.
I've tried your solutions before but it's still time-comsuming to correct the with/length.
Sometimes I think the new version AI kind of rediculous because it can't export as accurate as the CS2/CS3's exporting, which should have functioned well.
On the other hand, I can also save my AI file with PDF capability and drag it into PS to rasterize, then I can get accurate PSD files.
But save AI with PDF cab. takes much time, even more when there are complex objects (or) with multiple appearance features and occasionally fails to save and get a broken AI file.

  • Question about exporting

Hello all.  It is my first time using Premire Pro 2 and I am having some issues.  Whenever I try to export my video it exports it, but then I see no video.  I have the audio, but no video.  Could the problem be in the way I structured the project?  It's HD footage, so I used one of those presets.  I really hope there is a solution to this becasue I spent a lot of time on this.  The Adobe HD-SDI is what I set as the editing mode.  Does that affect it?  Please help!
Thank you so much in advance.

    Welcome to the forum.
First, tell us about your source files, in as much detail, as you can. Then, the full specs. of that Project Preset would be useful - again with full details, especially if you chose a Desktop Preset and adjusted any attributes.
Last, please give the full details of your Export options. It is likely that you forgot to check a box, or hit the correct radio button. Here, I would strongly recommend doing a screen-cap series of all of your Export setting dialog screens, as the key might well be in there.
Good luck, and we'll be looking for that info and the screen-caps,
    Hunt

  • I have a question about exporting a short movie to burn on a DVD.

Ok, it's me again.  You guys were so much help last night, that I am back for another piece of advice.  I have made a short 23 minute movie in Premiere Pro CS3, using 200 still images and some music.  I realize that this program is way more than I need, but it is on my computer along with I Photo, I DVD, and I Movie - which are great programs for the quick little thing I am doing, but you can only choose 1 Transition between each still in all three of those programs and that becomes very obnoxious.
Therefore, I used Premiere Pro CS3, but now I want to export it two times - once for a web site and once to burn it to a DVD to watch on a standard TV. Can anyone walk me through that - way, way to many choices and I tried reading the 11 pages in the user manual - it may as well been in a foreign language.
    Thanks to all.
    Michele

    Hi,
If you have encore you can use that for the DVD...encore will take care of a lot of stuff for you automatically...
What are your project settings ?  eg....  720x480 progressive, square pixels, 29.97 fps, 4:3 aspect ratio....etc.
That will have a lot to do with how you export for the web...what settings you use..
You will need to know what web based video size you want ( will it be smaller than your project (720 x480 ? )  for example?)
    Sooo, do you have encore?
Can you supply project settings and info about what you want the web video to be

  • Good question about Exporting to tape

Somebody asked me this and I thought it was a good question. And I dont know the answer!
When a camera is connected to FCE, whatever plays on the timeline plays on the camera viewfinder, right? So instead of using PRINT TO VIDEO why wouldnt we just manually press record on the camera and just tape the movie straight off the timeline?
Is there some kind of quality loss if you do this?
Just seems to be a quicker and easier way to get the movie to tape.

While this works just fine, there are some issues. I.E., it is a lot easier to interrupt your recording when playing straight from the timeline (press the wrong key, have another app switch over, etc).
Print To Video (as far as I know) can only be interrupted with the ESC key.
Also, in Print to Video, FCP makes sure everything is rendered, and you can add color bars, slate, black, etc to the beginning if needed.
