Questions about Mail

Hi everyone. I'm new to Macs, just converting from a Windows PC, and was just curious about mail settings for my POP account. Is there a way to set it up so that mail will delete the email messages from the server after it downloads them from the mail server similar to what Microsoft Outlook does. Thanks in advance for the help. I have an iMac Intel w/ OS X 10.4.7 if that helps.

Hello Dave.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Advanced tab for the account preferences, select "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message:" and below the options are:
Right away
After one day
After one week
After one month
When moved from Inbox

Another question about mail crashing:

Have a question concerning mail. Cannot recieve/send/delete emails. Even if I delete, emails return after i (force) quit the unresponsive program. Also, if i click back and forth between sent, trash and inbox icons, they go blank and then mail won't respond. Attaching console, good luck. Please help, been dealing with this since I got computer. Question about Mail app and domain name please help

Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this question so figured this would be the best area. I have a website which uses bluehost as it's web hoster. My email is set up through them, such as [email protected]
In my Mail app, I have the POP thing set up so when ever someone emails me it goes right to the Mail app. It works great for my personal computer, but when I go to work and go on other computers is where the problem is.
When I am on a random computer at work, I have to sign onto my webhosting site and then use squirrel mail. It is quite a hastle and is not the best. I would love to use gmail, but still keep my domain name I have.
One co-worker mentioned just forwarding all my [email protected] emails to my new gmail email. There are issue's with doing this because if I'm at work and email someone with gmail it will use that email address. Also, I want to be able to read all my sent messages from any computer including the sent messages that were within my Mail app. Is this possible?
Besides forwarding is there a better solution? It is sort of hard to explain. Basically I want my [email protected] address to be run through gmail, be able to access on any computer, have it be the only address in my mail app, and most importantly have the sent messages from mail app to be able to be read on all computers.
I think gmail lets you make a domain name email, without gmail being included at the end. But I already have the email address made...am I able to just swap it? And keep all my mail inbox info?
What's the best sollution for my problem?

You would need to login to your web mail account to reply so that the email came from "[email protected]"
I try to get a gmail address that is close to the domain name like - [email protected] - so that I don't have to bother opening web mail as it is a pain.
I forward to Gmail and then Mac Mail because their spam blocker is the best.
A lot of web mail addresses bounce mail because the capacity is limited and the owners don't go into their control panel to launch their web mail and clear out the old stuff. Lawyers, in particular, are famous for this. For this reason I don't set web mail to keep a copy of the forwarded mail. If my web mail gets full of spam and they start bouncing then its not my problem!

Quick question about mail

sorry i'm not sure where to ask this question...
when you use the search function in mail, it may bring you to messages in the middle of all your emails.
is there a hot key that can zip you all the way up to the top without using the mouse?

Two Fold question about MAIL on Mac OS X Tiger

In the left hand margin, on email page,first item is IN, on my Mac, below that was my name, Eva Driscoll, below that my husband, Don Driscoll. Suddenly it was reversed with his name first. Neither of us changed this. No big deal, EXCEPT: Now when I forward anything in my name, Eva Driscoll, on the new "forwarded page" the sender appears as Don Driscoll. This means I have to remember to change it from Don to Eva, before I forward any e mail. Is there any way to fix this, so when I forward something I wrote, my name will stay in place as on the original email, instead of changing to Don? I have already looked at everything under Mail and Preferences, but nothing seems to be there to rectify what is happening. Thanks in advance to anyone who might help me with this problem.

You can click and drag an account's Inbox mailbox to
the top or bottom position in the mailboxes drawer
under Inbox and this can also be done via the
Accounts window at Mail > Preferences > Accounts.
The address chosen when replying to or forwarding a
received message is based on which email
account/address the received message as addressed to
- namely which account's Inbox mailbox the message
was received by.

reply to Allan Sampson: I am sorry I do not understand your second sentence below. Example: I sent an email to Jan,from me, Eva Driscoll. Then I remembered something else I wanted to add, so I hit forward,added what I wanted to add. But on this forwarded page to Jan,it no longer says from Eva (as on the first email to Jan), now it says fromDon, and I have to change it to Eva.
Where is the mailbox drawer under Inbox? I have On my Mac,then the two names which became reversed without our doing so.
But my question is: why does it change from Eva to Don simply by forwarding the same email to the same person originally sent to?

Question about mail application

i hope this is the right place to ask this: we use hotmail as our normal email app, but if i go into apple mail all of our emails go there as well. when i select all emails in the apple mail inbox and then delete them are they gone for good or are they still sitting somewhere in my computer. i checked the trash and they aren't there, but i just want to make sure there's not somewhere else on the computer i have to get rid of them. as always, thanks for any help.

Which trash did you check? The Mail's trash or the computer's trash. When you delete mail from your Inbox in Mail it goes into the Mail trash. Click on that. Then you can select what mail you want permanently deleted and delete that.

1.How to disable batch mode email in portal 8.1 Mail Service using

The docs haven't been moved over to the 8.1 docsite, but the 7.0 docs
for campaigns are still pretty much valid in 8.1. Look at:

Basic answers:
1. You can't from a campaign. It will always batch emails in the database.
2. Use the bea/weblogic81/portal/bin/mainmanager.bat|sh script, which
uses the com.bea.p13n.mail.MailManager command-line java class (JavaDoc
at http://e-docs.bea.com/wlp/docs81/javadoc/index.html). This can be
invoked from cron or at for regular email delivery. Also, the emails are
deposited in the MAIL_* tables
(http://e-docs.bea.com/wlp/docs81/db/4Schemas.html#1064602), so you
could implement a delivery system from that as well.
3. There are no parameters since the email delivery is invoked from a
command-line process.

A few questions about mail

I'm new to mail and OSX so please be kind if I am being stupid..
I use Mail with my Exchange 2007 account, is Mail able to do the following as I cannot find it anywhere..
1. Unmark junk set by Exchange and add to trust list on the server., then move to the Inbox (like Outllook)
2. Mark as spam and add to server spam list
3. Read all messages in plain text, as some I recieve are in html and the fonts are tiny and have to zoom each mail.
4. Create/Edit rules - I have some rules enabled but have to log into Web access to amend create these
5. When I delete mail i Mail its moves to the trash, but when I go to Outlook web and try and recover any mail there is none if the trash is emptied..
Any help appreciated, I had a quick look at Entourage but its a bit clunky and slow.

Question about Mail and attachments

I have a GMAIL account, and I have no problems sending or receiving email, including attachments.
I send out about 100 emails a day for work, most of them with attachments. For the most part, everything works fine. However, I do get some replies back from customers stating there was no attachment. If I look in my SENT folder on both gmail and on the local folder box, it shows the attachment was sent.
My only fix for this for now is to log into GMAIL and send it out thru there. Anyone else have this problem with Leopard?

If you compose and send in Rich Text Format, and use two or more different fonts or font sizes, including what might added with a Signature, the RTF will be converted to HTML. In turn, the servers or SPAM defenses used by some recipients can be triggered by the HTML, and the attachment actually be removed before the recipient sees it.
Are you using RTF? If so, then if there is someone this always happens with, compose the message, click on Format in the Menubar, and choose Make Plain Text and send as a test.

I have a question about mail

I have the iPad 3 and when I had the iPad 1 I had my email set up to where if I delete it on the iPad it would not delete when I opened up my email on the computer. I forgot how I had it set up to where I want it to only delete on the iPad. Does anyone know what settings I need to change my iPad to? I am using Windows Live Mail and slowly switching to Thunderbird on my PC. I have already unchecked the Mail option in my iCloud account like I saw in another forum, but that didn't seem to fix the issue. Every email I delete on my iPad deletes on WLM on my PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

iCloud settings would not have an impact on this account. I'm not familer with Windows Live email. Is it IMAP or POP?

Question about Mail

I have a Windows Live account and is there anyway I could be able to use that on my iPod? Help would be much appreciated. (:

Can't you add it under "Other" mail account types? Go to Settings, Mail, Contacts, & Calenders. That's how I got our Comcast accounts listed on the Touch. A very simple process--just input login and password at the prompts for new accounts.

Elementary question about Mail

A recent discussion with AT&T DSL support has forced me to make sure I'm not imagining things. The following is correct, right...
- With outgoing main on Mail, I simply highlight the mailbox I want to use for sending, draft the message, and send. The receiving party then gets the email.
- If I need to use another mailbox in the same session, I simply highlinght another of my email boxes, draft the message, and send.
- Everything is done with transparently by the Mail app without having to open your browser or doing extra configuring between email messages.
I just wanted to confirm this. It's the way I've been doing email for ages. I have to formally ask before taking my AT&T complaint to the next level. Thanks.

that sounds right to me, i have 3 email accounts set up in mail and all you should have to do is when you are composing a messege, in the little drop down menu that says "account" you just choose which email account you would like it to be from...simple as that

Question about mail offers

so my credit is pretty good 750+ but i never seem to get any of those prequalified mail offers to apply for a credit cardand have to always find one myself to apply for but others in my household with less income than me are always constantly getting those mail offersand for some nice cards at that why am i not getting these mail in offers yet? do i need to sign up in some database or something

Question about mail and entourage

Can I secure my mail and entourage by making a password on it so that someone can't totally open my them (mail and entourage)?

Are you asking if you can assign a password to your email before they're sent? If so, the answer is no. However, Secure Socket Layer or SSL email servers provide some level of security.
You might want to look into the usability of a Public Key Infrastructure or PKI. This will require a receiver of the email to have PKI as well, though. See http://www.pki-page.org/.
Alternatively, you can assign passwords to Office documents attached to your email.

Simple (probably dumb) question about Mail --

After I read a message, how do I go the next message without closing the current message box and going back to Inbox? That is, is it possible to read a message then go to the next one, then the next one, etc. without going back to the Inbox?

you can read a message from the message list, by reading in the preview pane. if you do not have the preview pane set on your main window, go to the bottom of the window, you will notice a line with a dot at the middle, drag that dot to the middle of the window or a little higher and drop it. you should now have your main window divided in two, with the upper part showing the message list, and the lower part showing the text of the email you have selected in the message list.
