Questions about moving from Mobile Me to iCloud

I just upgraded my iPhone to iOS5 and am curious about the move to iCloud for my mobileme account.  I know there are articles out there, but they seem very generic and do not put my fears to rest.
Here are my questions and concerns. I figure they will be easy for a lot of you to answer, but I need to pose them before I make the jump.
1.)  Do I need Lion to move to iCloud?  (from the articles I read I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but I thought I'd clarify)
2.)  I have more than one mobileme account that has calendars and mail synced on my computer.  If I upgrade one account do I have to upgrade the other at the same time for iCal and Mail to work?
3.)  My husband's mobileme account syncs his work calendar.  It is very important that I don't lose his information and that his calendar works flawlessly after the upgrade.  Has anyone run into problems with the calendar syncing?  I will not move anyone's accounts if iCloud is still experiencing a lot of bugs.  I will of course make a backup copy of his calendar before upgrading, but his calendar changes often and is synced to two iMacs, a Macbook Pro, Mac Mini, an iPad and an iPhone it will not be practical to keep track of his calendar and if it is syncing properly.
4.)  How do I actually make the switch to iCloud once I make up my mind to do it?  My Phone told me to sign into me.com to do this, but when I signed in I didn't see how to say that I wanted to use the iCloud.  Maybe this is because I haven't upgraded to Lion yet?
Thanks!

I am curious about the comment you can only use one iCloud account at a time. Right now I have my moblieme calendar and my husband's mobileme calendar both visible in iCal.  That is very convenient for us because then he doesn't have to open up a separate user on the iMac just to check his calendar (this is our home computer that is mainly mine).  Are you telling me that I won't be able to use both CalDAV accounts in iCal anymore?  Will it force me to use only one?
Most of our music and videos was purchased under my .mac account, so iTunes isn't a problem, but we like to share one user on the computer and still be able to see both our calendars and e-mail.

    Download this

To backup your Cal before you try to merge .me and .iCloud calendars.
I don't know if the .me account settings works like iCloud. In iCloud you can turn off the Calendar from settings by keeping the event in the iPhone's  local account. Then you can turn ON calendar in iCloud settings and you will prompted to merge them.

  • Errors with moving from Mobile me to iCloud - No answer anywhere on the web that I can find!

I'm completely up to date with Lion.
I'm trying to move from Mobile Me to iCloud, but get an "Unable to complete your move to iCloud because of an unexpected server error" message on my Mac Book Pro when I open system preferences, it tries to finish moving me to iCould, but fails and gives me the error message above.
My Mobile Me account status is saying I have been upgraded to iCloud.
I have already successfully completed the move on my iMac and two iPhone 4's?
I have tried repair permissions and deleted the keychain, but the problem still exists!
Can anyone provide a solution? I am getting very frustrtaed, as I have so much stuff to do, I didn't want to waist any time on this issue!

I have found the solution to my issue in this thread - http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1250735
This lead me to the solution for my issue: deleting the ~/Library/Application Support/iCloud/Accounts folder.
I spoke to an Apple MobileMe Support girl and she was useless!
I've wasted over 24 hours trying to sort this issue out - not a happy Apple user!
I hope this helps others - let me know if it does!

I recently updated to Ios 5 and moved from MobileMe to the icloud.  Now I have duplicate contacts on my phone - like 8 of each person!  How do I get rid of them?  My calendar is finally in sync....

I turned off syncing from Itunes and said yes to deleting them from the phone and now I only have one contact per person.
It only took a few hours to get past the fear of delete

  • Quick Question about Moving from iPod Touch 2G to iPhone 4

I've had an iPod Touch for just over 2 years and am planning to get the Verizon iPhone 4 as soon as it is released. Does anyone know if I will be able to move all my apps with their data to the iPhone? For example, I have a weight watcher type app where I have been recording what I eat, weight loss, etc for months. I'd like to bring that information with me. Plus my game scores and levels I've beaten, etc. Before, when I have plugged in a new device iTunes has asked me if I want to restore data from my iPod 2G backup or from my iPad backup. If I do that, will it give me the desired result?

Ignore the previous post, as it's quite obvious the poster has no idea what they are talking about. App data is stored in your touch backups. Restoring your new phone from that backup will restore the data to your new phone. Follow the directions here:

  • HT5129 Moving photos from Mobile Me to iCloud?

Any information on moving my photos (iPhoto) from Mobile Me to iCloud?

Have you enabled iCloud and PhotoStream on yhour iPhone and Macs? Once you have the last photos taken by iPhoto will be uploaded to PhotoStream. That's the only iCloud photo sharing available from the iPhone and it's only to share with your other mobile devices, like the iPad, and your desktop Macs.  PhotoStream only presents 100 photos for 30 days and then replaces them with the next 100 that you've taken since the first.
If you have MoibleMe galleries then you can download them to your iPHoto library. This Apple webpage describes how: iPhoto 9.2.2 or later: Migrating MobileMe albums and photos to your iPhoto library

  • How do you transition from mobile.me to iCloud?

How do you transition from mobile.me to iCloud?

The link posted above is useless as it is completely out of date.
You cannot migrate a MobileMe to iCloud: MobileMe is closed and the contents of all accounts have been deleted.
If you had a MobileMe account you can reactivate the @me.com address by signing into System Preferences>iCloud with it and enabling Mail in the checklist there (Lion 10.7.2 or above required, you cannot do this on older systems) or in Settings>iCloud on an iOS5 device. The address will work but the previous contents of the account will not appear. If you also had an @mac.com version of the address from being a long-standing MobileMe member you cannot reactivate that, only the @me.com address.

  • Regret updating from Mobile Me to iCloud

Is it my imagination or is iCloud totally disfuntional? Ever since updating to iCloud the iCal apps on my iPad and MacBook Pro are not syncing properly with the calendar in iCloud.
    1. Calendar events created on my iPad usually show up in iCloud but sometimes with the wrong date and time. They never show up in iCal on my MacBook Pro
    2. Calendar events created on my MacBook Pro don't show up on my iPad nor the calendar in iCloud.
    3. Events created in iCloud's calendar show up on my iPad but never iCal on my MacBook Pro.
    4. Events created in iCloud's calendar can't be editied within the iCloud calendar.
    5. Selecting "Preferences" in the iCloud calendar does nothing.
Anyone else seeing any of the above? Any suggestions as to how this mess can be repaired. Ever since updating from Mobile Me to iCloud, I've had nothing but problems.

Go to www.icloud.com/move and transition the account to iCloud. Please take the time to read the posts listed to the right under 'More Like This' and please take the time to open System Preferences>iCloud to choose services to run. Many users report that you should sign out of Mobile Me in the Mobile Me preference pane or iCloud does not complete its login.

  • Question about moving a site

This isn't a Dreamweaver question, but you guys have been
great help in the past. Perhaps you can help me here.
I have a customer, WC, who had a site through one of these
'template' companies. I have redesigned his site. His domain name
is registered through Network Solutions. If I leave the domain
registration with Network Solutions but CHANGE his hosting company,
will anything (settings, Cnames, MX records, etc) need to change on
their Microsoft Exchange server? They no longer have a network
admin, and I'm not familiar with Exchange. I don't want to risk
crashing their email for a day!
    Thanks!

This will only be true if you are not using an exchange
    server. When I do
this for non-exchange server domains, I always have the
    clients set up a new
email account that grabs incoming email from the new
    mailserver, while they
also continue to get it from the old one. In the 72 - 96
    hours it takes to
be really sure all DN servers have propagated, they will
    receive email from
both locations. After that time, they can then cancel their
    original
hosting account, and remove the associated email account.

No - not if they are using an exchange server.

  • Moving from Mobile server v. 10.3.0.2.0 to lastest 11g

    Hi,
We have 2-300 Windows Mobile 6.1 clients distributed all over Norway. We are now moving towards Android, but for a while we will have to support both WM and Android.
Currently we are running Oracle Database lite 10.3.0.2.0 (Android client is not out yet).
How can we migrate to Mobile server 11g with the least effort (for the users)? Do we need to upgrade to 10.3.0.3.0 first, or can we go directly to the latest Mobile server 11g?
Our Oracle database was upgraded to 11g (11.2.0.3.0) a while ago.
    Thanks,
    Marius

we installed a fresh new oracle 11.1.0.6.0 then we installed the 10.3.0.3 , our database expert set up the environment correctly on windows 2003 server with java version (java -version)
1.4.2_03-b02. then we started installing the patches as they came out (we installed a second java version for those but didnt change the java home so that olite still works with the 1.4.2 version) i think we installed like 5-6 patches (as they came along during the months). when we had to go to a client install or we needed to create a new testing/development server we just copied the entire server from the vmware and paste it into a new server then loggin change the ip manual and we had a new server. this way we could install a customer server in his environment in less than 4-5 hours (actually the copy paste takes like 4 -5 hours and then you need minor adjustments for his domain which take like 5 minutes).
our clients are windows mobile 6.1-6.5 our apps are .net 3.5 on intermec and motorola handheld devices(rugged). we had some problems with the unicode characters and the set up for our localized (greek) characters but our database expert set the database with the correct language page (i think it was 1253 for us) and then we set it also on the windows mobile-olite and we got passed that issue too.
i know this doesnt help you much but (im not an oracle expert, nor oracle rep) if i were you i wouldnt try to migrate from olite 10.3.0.2 to 10.3.0.3 . if i were you i would install a fresh 11g+10.3.0.3 and overwrite the entire server. the reason is that if you search this forum you will find many posts from people asking help about migrating from one version of olite to another. they report many problems. so why not make a fresh install? you can later migrate all the database tables your self.
but if you need to go from 10.3.0.2->10.3.0.3 the link i sent you gives some info, if your problem persists i guess you need to ask for help from oracle, perhaps open a service request,(or perhaps search for a similar post here, if your lucky:) ).

  • Just moved from DotMac/MobileMe to iCloud

and it is worse than I expected. I only use the mail part of MM and I've LOST the 2 most important features of the email:
I can no longer retrieve my mail from iCloud using my GMail account
So I have no way to get mail sent to my @mac.com address except by using my iPhone.
More importantly, I've LOST my @mac.com outgoing email address even though I specifically used that address for the transition
Now any messages I send will have a freakingly inane @me.com, which I NEVER asked for or wanted.
More and more, I'm becoming convinced that Apple doesn't want my business after 28 years of being a loyal customer.
I'll have to see what email subscriptions are set to the @mac.com address and change them to a NON-Apple related address. Then I will turn off iCloud Mail on my iDevices.
If anyone knows how to get iCloud email to be checked/retrieved by GMail, please let me know. Supposedly you can set the mail up to be forwarded, but I can't find out how to do this using my iPad/iPhone. Anyone know how to do it?

Yes, I read it but he didn't tell me anything that:
    1. I had NOT ALREADY tried
    2. I CANNOT do because of hardware limitations.
Taking his points one at a time:
    A. Logging into http://www.icloud.com/
    1. I can't do that on my desktop computers because NONE have Lion because NONE have a Core2Duo processor. IIRC, my web browsers can run on Lion but when run on pre-Lion OS, it doesn't work.
    2. I have tried to log in on my iPad but I ONLY get the THREE (3) options I listed in my reply.
    B. My @mac.com address not working for OUTGOING email
    1. When i write an email message on my iPad/ iPhone, it is sent with the From and/or Reply headers set to @ME.COM, not @mac.com. I specifically mentioned this in my reply. I also specifically mentioned in BOTH posts that I HAD used @mac.com when moving from MobileMe to iCloud.
    C. Update iCloud server settings
    1. This is WHAT I'm trying to do. But I can't find a way to do this via my iPad/iPhone; it seems to require going to http://www.icloud.com/  (See A above)
    D. Setting up forwarding
    1. AGAIN, that requires going to http://www.icloud.com/. (See A above)
So I'll ask each question again
    1. How do I setup forwarding of iCloud email using my iPad/iPhone?
    2. How do I, using my iPad/ iPhone, setup my OUTGOING iCloud email to use @MAC.COM in the From and Reply To headers?
    3. This is new. Can I use a Public Access computer a my local Public Library to go to http://www.icloud.com/?

  • Questions about upgrading from Exchange 2010 RTM to Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3

I am preparing to perform an maintenance upgrade on our current Exchange 2010 Server, to Service Pack 3 (and any post-SP3 roll ups), but I have a couple questions about the process.
    Current Exchange Server details:
    Exchange 2010 Standard
Version: 14.0 (Build 639.21) - from Exchange Management Console
Version: 14.0.702.4000 - from Outook client
Active Directory forest and domain levels: Windows 2008 R2 native
    The questions I have are:
    1.  Can I assume that because it's version 10.0.702.4000 I am on Exchange Server 2010 RTM Update Rollup 4?
    2.  Can Exchange 2010 Standard RTM be patched directly to Service Pack 3, or would I need to perform incremental patches (i.e. SP1, SP2, etc.) before going to SP3?
    3.  Do I need to manually perform the AD domain schema prep before applying Service Pack 3, or will the Service Pack 3 update process automatically handle the modifications of the AD schema?

    Hi,
Here are my answers you can refer to:
    1. Firstly, I’d like to explain , we can use connection status to check our Exchange server version from Outlook client:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/determine-the-version-of-microsoft-exchange-server-my-account-connects-to-HA010117038.aspx
And I check my version from both EMC and Outlook client. It’s same.
    2. We can directly update RTM version to SP3 , and the update will take an additional 30 minutes or longer per database.
    3. Since Exchange 2010 SP3 makes updates to the Active Directory schema, we need prepare AD domain schema. However, it will automatically prepare AD and the domain when you install the update.
For more information, you can refer to the following article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj965774(v=exchg.141).aspx
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

  • A question about restoring from cold backup(control file backup not clear)

    Hi,
I had another question about restoring the cold backup. My database is in noarchivelog mode and after taking a consistent cold backup, all I need to do is to restore the backup right? -Why I got this question is because: when I backup my control file to trace, I see statements like this:-----
-- Commands to re-create incarnation table
-- Below log names MUST be changed to existing filenames on
-- disk. Any one log file from each branch can be used to
    -- re-create incarnation records.
    -- ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE '/uo1/app1/arch1_1_647102958.dbf';
-- Recovery is required if any of the datafiles are restored backups,
-- or if the last shutdown was not normal or immediate.
    RECOVER DATABASE
-- Database can now be opened normally.
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN;
My database is in noarchivelog mode now so don't know why these statements (of register the logfile) is there in the backup of control file? so when I restore the cold backup of this database, it will still work correct? (there is no logfile I have only CRD files in cold backup -no archive log files.)
    thanks
    Nirav

Thanks for your inputs! It is most useful to me.

  • Question about restoring from Time Machine

Hi Everyone, first post so i'll make it a simple one.
Thankfully, i have never had to restore too much from my back up (TM) drive, Photos/maybe a movie etc... But i always keep an up to date backup, just in case.
Does anyone know whether or not when you restore an application, for example, if time machine will restore all the necessary preferences/additional information?
Also, I have a new Macbook Pro on the way. I've read up about moving my photos/music over to a new machine. But how would be a good way of moving applications? I'm not sure if i can move Aperture etc... over and keep the full licensed copy i got way back when it first came out?
Basically, will time machine be the solution i need to get my new mac, full of everything i had on my old one?
    Many thanks.
    Rich.

Be sure you have a full, complete recent back-up of your old system on Time Machine (don't exclude any files or folders). Then, with your Time Machine back-up drive attached, put in the install disk that will come with your new machine, choose your language, and on the next page choose restore from back-up, selecting your most up-to-date TM backup. That should give you the exact same machine on your new computer as your old one.
