Questions about multiple displays on mac.

Hello,
I am hoping to make a 3 display system for my mac pro.  However thunderbolt displays are ridiculously priced and i dont need the quality they bring.  My goal is to make my 3 displays be for as cheep as possible.  Now the display i would love to have is an asus screen priced at 139$.  I would love to be able to have each display be a seperate desktop.  Is their a way to achieve this?   The asus screen can do HDMI DVI and VGA

Which Mac Pro/graphics card(s)?
If the new 2013 then:
Mac Pro (Late 2013): Using multiple displays
With OSX 10,9,3 you have a max of two with HDMI, VGA or DVI monitor inputs. 10.9.2 and earlier allowed more. You can add Thunderbold and display port/mini display more monitors to those two

Is it possible to use multiple displays on mac mini?
I have a mac mini that I think is from 2009. The processor is 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 gb memory that I´d like to use with multiple displays (2). Is this possible??

    yes.
connect monitor #1 with the Mini DVI to DVI adapter (should have come with your Mini)
connect monitor #2 with the mini-displayport to DVI adapter (needs to be procured separately)

  • I bought a Canon 8400F scanner- question about multiple photos being scanne

    Hi,
I have a question about about scanning photos. It was posted that if you scan something with multiple photos, it will separate the pictures.
If I put 6 pictures on the scanner, will it automatically scan them and separate them, or is there something in the software where I select it to separate each picture.
    Thank you

I'm not at my Mac right now but it should be real obvious in the CanoScan software. Open it up and play around. It will jump out at you.
You don't tell it to select "each" picture. You merely tell it that there are multiple pictures and it then does everything automatically.

  • Question about external displays.

Just curious about external display use with the macbook.
I want to link up using DVI to DVI but I recently read that my external display will only show the same as the macbook display, and that i cant use the macbook display, and the external display as two seperate screens? but i read its possible to do on the macbook pro. Is this correct?

I don't normally use my macbook with my primary display, but I have tried it out.
I hooked it up via vga, rather than dvi though.
It worked fine, but defaulted to mirrored. There is an option in the settings to disable mirroring, and use the macbook as the primary and the external as the secondary.
I haven't found any way to swap them, and have the macbook as the secondary display.
The management of the screens was pretty cool though. You can drag and drop the screens so their relative position is set up how you want it (over/under, left/right, etc).
    hope that this helps...

Hello!Ι have a question about Adobe Edge.is it possible to create a photo slide show like mac's file preview? i mean smthg like this  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q727LqDIZKM

    Hi, TasisGrafix2-
Edge Animate doesn't support css3d natively, but you can use a third party library such as edgehero.js to make this work.

  • ANOTHER Question about my iMac G3. Mac OS X and RAM

Hey, I have ANOTHER question about my iMac G3.
I know that I'm supposed to have the latest firmware updates for my iMac G3 running OS 8.1, which I do, but I read some where these firmware updates could only be updated if you're running OS 9.2. Yet when I run the firmware updater, it says my firmware is up to date. I just wanted to make sure this was correct because I just ordered an OS X 10.2 CD today, and I don't want my mac to be "dead" when I install it.
My next question is how much RAM can my mac hold. It's an iMac G3 with a 233 mhz processor, if that makes a differemce.
Again, thanks to the people who have helped me with my first Mac.

    hi there--
unfortunately you require system 9.1 or 9.2 for the required firmware update 1.2 for your computer http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117. so you'll have to install that if you want to install 10.2. it may work for you for a little while, but then you could possibly lose all your information. so i wouldn't advise attempting installing 10.2 without the correct firmware. • Question about virus on a mac

ive read posts about people saying that macs cant get virus's. but i was mainly jus wondering what would happen if u downloded something off limewire or the internet and it had a virus in it would it affect your mac? or because its a pc virus nothing would happen.Do pc virus's affect macs even if one got on your mac.thanx for any replies.

    Kappy,
I have to respectfully disagree with a couple of your comments:
Most users are behind routers whose built-in firewalls provide sufficient protection against outside invasion. Furthermore, hackers are not interested in your computer or mine. They are only interested in computers that have something worth getting.
    Here's why:
    1. Although the percentage is rising, most consumers are not behind routers. A very large number of broadband consumers are directly connected to a cable or DSL modem.
    2. The overwhelming majority of consumer-grade routers, and especially wireless routers, are not configured for security. They tend to have two common features:
    - Default (wide open) settings configured.
    - Default or NO admin passwords.
    3. Any Joe Sixpack's computer can be used to crack a "worthwhile" computer's data, send spam, collect email addresses, distribute illegal content, and for DOS attacks. Botnets are extremely profitable.
Cracking a router and using its CPU and limited memory for spam and DOS is becoming more common as well. It's important to protect your router, too.
That said, I find the rest of your comments, especially the "If it bleeds, it leads." attitude in the press, fair.

  • Question about multiple application modules.

    Hello,
Suppose I have 2 database schema’s. For both schemas I have 1 application module. All view objects are in the same project.
For each application module I have an application definition.
Is it possible to link between these two applications? Because sometimes these database schema’s link to each other and you would like to jump from one application directly to the other.
For example you have orders locates in 1 DB schema and customers in another DB schema.
You would want to jump from the order directly to the customer details in the second schema.
Is this possible? Or do I need to make nested application modules etc?
I can find very little info about this; the JHS def guide does not offer much information about multiple application modules etc.
    -Anton

    Anton,
Yes, you can jump aroundd as you like.
You just can't use view links between VO's based on different db schema tables.
Nesting AM's doesn't help there, the DB connection of the top-level AM will be used.
Why don't you create synomyms for the tables in the other schema?

  • Question about multiple screens (display+HDTV)

I have my 30" display connected to one port of my video card, and a DVI-VGA cable that goes around the corner to my HDTV, so what I'd like to do is be able to flip between both of these screens on my 30" display (not mirrored) so I could have my desktop, but essentially queue up a DVD, video, browser/app/whatever on the smaller resolution display and have that display on the HDTV.
So by default my displays in my system preferences show side by side (not mirrored) - how on my 30" desktop do I "switch" to this so I can see it and prep it the way I want, so I can see what will be displayed on my HDTV? Why not just look at the HDTV? Because it's around the corner in another room, not viewable from where I'm sitting.
Am I forced to go into mirror mode?
Or maybe Spaces can help me out with this?
    Thanks for any tips.
Also - I'd like to also use this setup for viewing Netflix streaming online movies, but when I boot up in XP in bootcamp, I don't know how to switch my video from my Mac to the secondary screen. Ideas?
    Thanks!

If it were PHP, I could help, but my knowledge of ASP is minimal.
Dreamweaver server behaviors can't do this for you. Basically, what you need to do is this:
The result from your database will be a comma-separated string containing the selected values.
You need to split that string into an array of individual values.
For each <option> tag, you check the values in the array against the current value. If there's a match, you insert selected="selected" into the <option> tag.

  • Another question about multiple copies

I've seen several others posting questions lately about making multiple copies, but my question is just slightly different. I'll be making an iDVD project for our 5th Grade Recognition at school. Obviously, I'll be making it on my Mac at home. However, once it's finished and I have my final DVD, I'm going to need to make over 50 copies.
Last year, when I did the presentation as a Powerpoint show, it was easy enough to use multiple (Windows) computers at school to duplicate. There are 4 computers that I used to just rotate CD's in and out of to make copies.
Will I be able to use a Windows machine to make copies of an iDVD disk? I know that the computers can burn DVD's, so that's not an issue. I can't remember exactly which programs the computer have. I believe that one is Sonic something. The one that I used for CD's was IRecordNow (or something like that).
Is there any "protection" placed on the iDVD disk that will prevent me from placing the iDVD into the drive and choosing "copy" in whatever program that I use?

Is there any "protection" placed on the iDVD disk that will prevent me from placing the iDVD into the drive and choosing "copy" in whatever program that I use?
No. Only DVDs made in a production house have copy protection applied.

  • Question about taking music from mac to pc and pc to mac

I have a mac book and ipod nano that are only about 4 months old. Well the disk drive on my mac isn't working and I want to add some music to my ipod from a CD. I just downloaded itunes to my dad's PC(windows vista) so that I could upload the music. My cousin told me that she did this once nad t completely whiped all of her music off of her ipod when it synced. Will this really happen?
If I can't use the other computer is there a way I can use a flashdrive to add the music?

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Mac formatted iPods can only be used on a PC that has a third party helper program such as XPlay or MacDrive installed. XPlay is currently only compatible with Windows XP, 2000, Me or 98SE, a new version for Vista is planned for release later this year. Alternatively since Macs can read Windows formatting the other way to use an iPod on both platforms would be to restore the iPod in iTunes for Windows which of course would erase any content from it, not a viable alternative in your case I'm afraid: How to determine your iPod's disk format
As for using an iPod on multiple computers, to do this you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Questions about Thunderbolt Display

    Hi there,
I'm thinking about buying a 27" Thunderbolt Display to accompany my 15" Macbook Pro. Basically, the current MBP screen is a little small for some of the tasks I'm currently undertaking. The specs of my Macbook Pro are:
    - 2.3GHz i7 Quad Core
    - 8GB RAM
    - AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB VRAM
    - Running the latest version of Lion.
I was wondering if anyone can advise of the kind of performance I can expect from the 27" Thunderbolt display if it is hooked up for the following tasks that I use my computer for:
    - General day to day internet use and Microsoft Office For Mac use.
    - Editing HD movies in iMovie (and potentially at a later date, Final Cut X).
    - Recording music in Logic Studio 9.
    - Web coding in Dreamweaver CS5.
    - Photo Editing in Photoshop CS5.
    - Graphics creation in Fireworks and InDesign CS5.
    - Running a game like X Plane 10.
    - Running Bootcamp with Windows 7 and games like Flight Simulator X.
    - Running a game like Football Manager 2012.
    - Watching movies.
Ideally I'd want to be running the above tasks in full screen mode.
How would the MBP cope with upscaling the above tasks to the full resolution of the Thunderbolt screen, with good graphical performance on the video editing and games specifically? Ideally I'm hoping for literally no loss in quality.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
    T

I've looked into it more and according to this (http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.html) my graphics card supports an external display to the maximum of 2560 by 1600 pixels which should be enough for the Thunderbolt Display considering it's native resolution is 2560 by 1440 pixels.
My question now is though, will the performance of things like video editing of moderate gaming be good on the TBD at full resolution?

  • Questions about buying a new Mac Pro for 4k video editing.

    Hi everyone,
I'm currently looking into buying a new mac pro and I have a few questions. I'm a filmmaker/freelance editor looking to get a system that can handle any/at least most 4k formats that I might throw at it, and will hopefully last me around 7 years or so, like my last mac pro has. I've saved up about $5,300 and am becoming more obsessed with getting it asap, but am willing to wait a bit and save up more if necessary. I also play the occasional elder scrolls or civilization game, and might run windows on the new system as well. So here are my questions:
    1. I've read rumors that a newer build could be released this year, with newer processors and graphics cards. Is there anything to point to when? I tend to buy things a month before a newer version is released, and I'd like to prevent myself from doing it this time around..
Here's the Build I'm looking at:
    6 core
    2 D700s
base ram to be upgraded myself to 32Gb (2x16Gb cards leaving 2 slots empty to expand to 64Gb later)
    512Gb-1Tb internal hd
    2. Should I be considering the 8 core? I'm not too excited about the additional $1500, but I want a system that will last.
    3. Is getting the two 16Gb chips of ram and leaving two slots empty a bad idea?
    4. I currently work with FCP studio 2 and love it. Not sure whether to go with FCP X, or adobe. Any thoughts?
    5. I'm not finding many deals for cheaper ram and hard drives. OWC's prices seem to be comparable to Mac's. I want to do the ram so I have room to upgrade to 64Gb later, but are there any hard drives out there that would make it worth upgrading it myself?
I appreciate any insights you might have. I plan on getting a decent raid and 4k monitor in the next year or so, but for now just want a base system that will keep me editing and will be ready for 4k when I take that next step.

The late 2013 Mc Pro uses Intel Xeon ECC processors (error correction), and as far as I know Intel has not announced any newer Intel Xeon processors than those in the late 2013 Mac Pro.  I would not expect to see an update to the 2013 Mac Pro until the end of 2015 at the earliest and probably later than that.
If time is not an issue, then you should be quite happy with the 6 core 2013 Mac Pro.  It will do an excellent job with 4K video footage. And, yes, I would suggest getting the best raid system you can afford.  That is actually more important than processor speed since I/O is frequently the bottleneck when doing multi camera video or 4K video.
I have the latest version of Adobe's Premiere Pro 2014  CC installed on my late 2013 Mac Pro and i have used it a bit without problems.  However, I find it much much slower to edit with than FCP X.  Also be advised that if you Google you will find several individuals on the Adobe Forums who purchased the late 2013 Mac Pro and have not been able to use it with Premiere Pro CC because of either a hardware incompatibility or software issues between Premiere Pro CC and BMD's Resolve.  It is quite possible that I have not experienced these problems because I have not made very demanding projects with Premiere Pro CC on my 2013 Mac Pro.
I strongly recommend FCP X.  Apple released FCP X before it was ready, and many early users were unwilling to take the time to learn how to use this very different NLE which is not track based.  Apple has over the last 3 years since FCP X was released, issued more than 10 updates (all free), and the program is stable and blazingly fast.  I urge you to check out the FCP X training offered by Ripple Training and/or Larry Jordan. Both are inexpensive, and worth every cent.  Watch their training videos and you will be up to speed in FCP X in no time at all, and you will wish you had switched a long time ago.
If you can afford the 1 TB of PCie internal flash storage on your Mac Pro, then by all means get it.  For me 1TB is well worth the cost.
As far as editing 4K video, the format of the video will be important to the ease of editing.  For example, I am able to edit in its native format (XVAC S) several streams of 4K video form my Sony FDR-AX100 with no problems.  If I were editing Sony's XVAC format used in their professional 4K cameras, that might pose a problem that would require transcoding.  Similarly for other 4K formats. XVAC S is an easy format to edit natively because it is essentially a high bit rate h.264 format.
Best of luck on whatever you decide to do, and happy editing.
    Tom

  • Just switching from a PC to MacBook Pro - question about Safari display

    Hi,
I am sorry for such a simple question, but if anyone has a moment... we have the new 15 inch laptop, but when accessing a website, the display does not fill up the whole screen. In other words, I can still see quite a bit of the background (wallpaper?) and it just seems to me that it could fill up the screen more than it is. The website doesn't matter - Yahoo, Apple, all the sites are displaying at the same size. Is there a way to adjust this? Thanks.

Grab the title bar and drag the window to the upper left, then grab the bottom right corner of the Safari window and drag it larger.
Alternatively, click the green dot at the upper left - that's a bit different than the Windows 'maximize' in that in Mac OS X, that button enlarges the window in a content-sensitive manner (i.e. makes it large enough to display the full content of the window, within the limit of your monitor). That means that, depending on the web page, the window may fill the screen vertically, horizontally, both, or neither (it will leave space for the Dock, though).
    Hope that helps...
