Questions about processing?

Just ordered iPhone 4 last night and got email saying order is in processing. Credit card has yet to be charged, read some posts and people said card will not be charged til phone is shipped. What else goes on in the processing stages though? Like if I already got to this part does that mean I'm good to go, or is there still a chance they'll ask for a security deposit from me? I hope not, any input is appreciated. Thanks...

I think I'm gonna go to the verizon store tomorrow after work just to find out if I'm good on the credit check. It's right next to my job. I just don't wanna wait mad long then find out they want a deposit. Then I just waited a couple days for nothing cuz I can easily have someone else put it in their name if I failed the credit check. Who knows, I may be able to pick it up right there if I'm lucky...

  • Switching from PC to Mac, have question about processing speed

Hi, I am going to buy a used Mac off of ebay and I am pretty clueless about where to start. I am not very knowledgable when it comes to the difference in processing speeds on pc's and apples both and have just been using what has been passed along. I am on a budget and cannot afford to do a bunch of upgrades when I get a new (to me) apple. I am currently working on a old pc (8 years?) that has had as many upgrades as it can handle. It is a Pentium III 548 mhz, 384 mb of ram and 40g hd on Windows XP. The Apple that I am stuck on getting right now is a G3 with a bunch of upgrades. It is an Imac PowerPC g3 with a 600mhz processor, 512 mb of memory, 120 gb hard drive. It has OS X 10.4 Tiger and ILife and has a single processor. It has a airport extreme card also. My question is 1) Does it take less mhz and ram to run the operating system for an apple and 2) am I going to notice a big difference in speed between what I have now and with the apple? The g3 is $249 and comes with a 90 day guarantee minus shipping. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!
    Tracy

I'd save your money or apply it to an Apple G4 (AGP or newer) tower. Depending on how it was configured, you may find that your PIII was a little faster loading web pages than the 600 MHz iMac. My 1 GHz P3s are faster than my iMac DV G3-400 MHz models. I think $249 plus shipping for a 5 or 6 year-old iMac is a bit high. I picked up one of my G3-400 MHz iMac DVs for $20 at a thrift store. If there are any in your area that accept donated computers, you might want to check for a local bargain. While the 600 MHz model that you described is loaded, that's about as far as it goes, other than bumping the memory to 1 GB, but that would likely involve removing a pair of 256 MB DIMMs already in it, and buying a pair of 512 MB DIMMs. If it has a single 512 MB DIMM installed, you wouldn't have to spend as much. Selling the computer with Tiger installed but without the OS installer media will eventually put you in a bind, when you'll need to boot from the installer CD to perform disk repair maintenance. Some may consider Tiger to be a bit demanding of that iMac's system resources, preferring the predecessor "Panther" instead. The bottom line is that the iMac is somewhat limited, in terms of design (no PCI slots) and/or future upgrade potential. If it will suit your needs as a starter Mac, try finding a comparable model for less. You might also check for used computer dealers in your area, as that saves the cost of shipping, and return shipping - if there's a problem. The G4 tower has more potential for hardware tweaking, if you decide to stick with the Mac OS. You can find G4 towers at eBay selling for less than $249, but you'd need to have a monitor. Is space at a premium, in terms of a preference for the iMac's compact form factor? There is a direct correlation between the OS version and the optimal processor speed and amount of installed memory to adequately run it. OS X needs/uses more memory than the older, pre-OS Mac versions, just as Vista or XP2 requires more memory than Windows Me or 98SE. A comparison of Intel's P3s to Apple's G3s or G4s gets into the debate over which one handles more instructions per clock cycle than the other at a given speed. It's difficult to do a head-to-head comparison, because the hardware and software is not the same.

  • Project manufacturing - Question about process

    Hi All,
I am trying to represent the following scenario in a project:
    Finished Product (FP)
    ---RM1 (raw material 1)
    ---RM2
    ---semi-finished assembly 1 (SF)
    RM3
    RM4
We have to assemble FP in the project. If I assign only FP as a material component in the project and run MRP, the system successfully generates planned orders for SF, RM1, RM2, etc.... I can then convert planned orders into purchase requisitions or production orders and do all consumption postings.
But, I want to represent the assembly process in the project, and I think the below assignment should be possible.
    WBS
    ---Network
    Activity 1
    RM3
    RM4
    Activity 2
    SF1 (-1 - negative quantity)
    Activity 3
    RM1
    RM2
    Activity 4
    FP (-1 - negative quantity)
The negative quantity should mean that the specified component (SF1 or FP) is assembled in that network activity. However, when I have a negative quantity in the component, MRP is not generating the planned order for that material. Also, it's generating redundant planned orders for RM1, RM2, etc... - once for the reservation for that component and once by exploding the reservation for SF1 or FP. Should I have the reservation / purchase requisition indicator for the individual components set as Never? In that case, do I just post consumption to the respective network activities when the respective RM* is received to stock? Any input you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Ahmed,
My ultimate goal is to produce FG, right? Now, I am using PP as well. I am trying to figure out what level of BOM should be represented in the project using component assignments also using MRP to create the corresponding procurement parameters. I was asking about the production order for FG, because Mahendra's solution doesn't create a production order for the FG due to the negative quantity in the project. I think he answered that part of the question saying that for the FG, the network acts as the production order and delivers FG to stock. Am I correct? Please let me know.
My explanation may be a little confusing, but please let me know if you need any further clarifications to solve the problem .

  • Oracle Warehouse Builder Question about Process Flow

    Oracle 11.1.0.7:
We currently have various mappings and what we want is in process flow to fork and merge back and only if all those mappings are successfully completed then go further in the process flow. I see that it allows fork for parallel processing but there is no merge. So how do I merge them all back and go to the next step in process flow. Next step of process flow is dependent on successful completion of all the previous mappings. And we want all the previous mappings to be executed in parallel for performance reasons.

Could someone help answer my question?

  • Preordered iPhone 4, giving 3GS to wife...question about process.

So I preordered a new iphone yesterday. When I get it I imagine I'll just activate it and sync it with iTunes and keep on rolling. My question is what is the process with my old 3GS that my wife will be taking. If she puts here SIM in it and connects to iTunes will it attempt to reactive it then set up as a new iPhone? I haven't done this before so I'm just wondering. Also, will we be able to share apps? Probably stupid questions but I just haven't dealt with this before. Thanks!

Does the person receiving the hand-me-down 3Gs have their contract altered by AT&T other than the addition of the iPhone dataplan? ie - does their elegibility for an iPhone 4 upgrade get impacted by this move?
No, since AT&T is not providing a subsidy for the iPhone tied to the person's line/number that activates the iPhone. AT&T provided a subsidy for the iPhone to the person that originally purchased the iPhone when new, which is tied to that person's line/number in regards to qualifying for upgrade or discount pricing with a new phone.
The person activating the used 3GS may need to sign a new two year contract, but AT&T did not provide a subsidy to the person that activates the 3GS .
I'm in the same boat, my wife really wants a white iPhone 4 and is content to wait until it's available in mid-August (or whenever it's released). She is currently using my old EDGE iPhone and last night the touch screen malfunctioned, she managed to turn it off and got that reset but it seems to me it's time to upgrade. My hope is she could use my soon-to-be-available 3GS phone, but I don't want her locked into an AT&T contract with that, I'd like to be able to slither out of the 3GS when the white iPhone 4 is available. Any thoughts on that?

  • Question about Processing Power

I was reading the specs of the MBA and see that the top-of-the-line Air has a processor rated at 2.13 Ghz with 6MB of L2 cache. My current MBP has nearly identical processor specs, only .3 difference at 2.4 Ghz with a 3MB L2 cache. I realize that the SSD will of course make a big difference in speed. However, in terms of pure processor performance, will there be much difference between these two computers? Are there any reasons the Air's processor would be slower?
    Thanks!

I had a new 1.83ghz MB Air for 4 days until the hardware failed. I'm got a full refund and I'm about to place a new order. During that time, I can say that doing Internet, email, Open Office, Microsoft Office, GIMP, etc., it felt faster than any Mac I've ever owned.
Also, a few months ago I put one of the really fast Other World Computing SSD's (with the Sandforce controller) in a mid-2007 MacBook that has a 2.16 Core2Duo processor and the REALLY SLOW Intel 950 integrated graphics. Doing "regular stuff" like that described above, this MacBook was way faster than my wife's 2.4ghz Core2Duo iMac with separate graphics processor. This MacBook boots in about 13 seconds. Microsoft Word cold boots for the first time after booting the machine in about 4 seconds. Safari cold boots in 2 seconds. Firefox cold boots in 3 seconds. Web pages load far faster because of the slight lag that normally occurs when a new web page is written to the disk cache. That lag doesn't exist with a fast SSD.
My point is that as long as you are not doing "pure" processor intensive tasks like encoding video or ripping audio CD's, the new MacBook Airs "feel" so much faster than their clock speeds would suggest.
As I said above, I'm waiting to re-order another 13" MBA. The wait is killing me. They are sooooooooooo nice.

Hi I have a question about shooting in Raw with my Canon EOS 6d.
I'm in the process of learning photography and my goal was to start shooting in raw.
I have Photoshop CS5. When I tried to edit my images in raw I received an error message stating, "The photoshop camera raw plug-in did not recognize the format. If these files are from a camera, you may need to update your camera raw plug in."
In researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6. My version of CS5 is 6.0.0.205. Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost. THANKS in advance!
    Heather

In researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6.
That is correct. Your camera was first supported by Camera Raw 7.3. Camera Raw 7.3 will not work with CS5. You need CS6 or CC.
Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost.
It all depends on your preferred workflow and your budget.
Using the DNG converter is free. There is no monthly fee. You use the converter to convert all Raw files from the EOS 6D to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5. That's an extra step every time - every photo. Some people don't like the extra step. Others don't mind.
Camera raw, DNG | Adobe Photoshop CC
Or you can upgrade to CS6 (non-Cloud) and pay the upgrade fee
    Creative Suite 6
Or join the Cloud and pay the monthly fee
Or join the Photoshop Photography Program (US9.99/month) and get PS CC+LR

  • Question about sql batch process in java app

    hi all
i have few questions about using batch process in the java.sql package. the addBatch method can take sql statements like inserts or updates. can we use a mixture of insert and update then? can we use prepared statement for this? it's just for performance consideration. thanks in advance.

    hi all
i have few questions about using batch process in the
java.sql package. the addBatch method can take sql
statements like inserts or updates. addBatch() is a method that has no parameters. It doesn't 'add' sql statements.
    can we use a
mixture of insert and update then? can we use
prepared statement for this? it's just for
performance consideration. thanks in advance. The point of batching is that you take something that is invariant and then 'add' a variant part.
Thus a single insert has an invariant part (the table and specific columns) and a variant part (the data for each row by column.)
You can use anything that is valid SQL (for jdbc, driver, database) and use it presuming your database allows that particular usage in batching. But that does require some regular pattern - it won't work if your usage is random. Nor will it work if some statements need to be executed only some of the time. Finally also note that transaction processing will often require smaller chunks - you can't insert a million rows in one batch.

  • Questions about the load processing of OpenSparc T1 Dcache

    Hi,
I have some questions about OpenSparc T1 Dcache load processing.
During load processing, subsequent loads to the same address need to search the store buffer for a valid store to that address. If there is a CAM hit, data is sourced from the store buffer, not from the D-cache, and no load request will be sent to the L2.
What if there is no CAM hit. Would the load request be sent to L2? Or would Dcache be checked for the requested data?
If the load request would be sent to L2, what next? Would the Dcache be updated?
    Thanks

Store buffer is checked for Read after Write (RAW) condition on loads. If there is full RAW - i.e. full data exists in the store buffer - then the data is bypassed and no D cache access happens.
If RAW is partial (e.g. word store followed by a double word load) then load is treated as a miss. Store is allowed to complete in L2 cache and then load instruction is completed.
For the miss in STB, D cache is accessed. If hit, data is fetched from D$. If miss, data is fetched from L2$ and allocated in D$.

Hi everyone, I’ve some questions about rooting my Xperia Arc S. Hopefully I’ll get helpful answers from you.
If I root my phone, shall I get regular software official updates from Sony?
Currently Sony is rolling out the ICS update. After rooting the phone am I able to upgrade my phone to ICS?
While rooting the phone if any damage is done, can that be recoverable by installing a fresh OS or something?
Does the rooting process delete all the existing contacts, messages, apps etc?
Finally can anyone please provide a full proof guide/tutorial for rooting the Xperia Arc S?
