Questions about system requirements w/FCE4 (AVCHD/Intel)

As you can see I have a Power PC Dual G5. I also have a JVC GZ-HD7 HD Everio camcorder. Im pretty dumb when it comes to this AVCHD. Can anyone tell me if this is the format my camcorder uses all the time or just when using the SD storage? Secondly, in regards to Final Cut Express 4 the Mac web site said:" For AVCHD: A Mac computer with an Intel processor" Is this true or just a marketing thing? I want to be able to edit HD clips that I capture with the JVC. I haven't bought the FCE4 yet. I hope someone would be kind enough to tell me what the best setup would be, (out side of buying a new Mac Pro). Prospectively, thank you!

Thanx Tom. Now that I know that my JVC does NOT shoot in the AVCHD & I don't currently have a Mac with an Intel, would you be so kind to suggest the best editing software for me to use with the current equipment I have. (Keep in mind I usually shoot in full HD) Maybe a previous version of Final Cut Express? I have been editing through my Power Book G4 with iMovie HD 6 but I would like to use my Power Mac, which has the new iMovie 7.1 ( I havent really used this yet because it didnt seem to have the effects options iMovie HD 6 has) Should I down load HD 6 to my G5 or is there a more highly recommended application? Will me only having a 2.1GHz processor really affect how my performance is with Adobe Air products/apps in general?

Yes- I've had some lower price pc's using an Adobe AIR app and can tell the difference.
Computers where performance was a huge issue was Compaq CQ56 & Toshiba Satellite C655D
These computers are under 2.0 GHz and the app seems to freeze up on occassion or run slower.

Question about system requirements with upgrade

I want to upgrade to Leopard which has iLife '08 but as I was reading about iMovie '08, it says that the minimum processor spec is a g5. You can see in my signature, my Powerbook is a g4, will iMovie not run at all (or very well even) or will the installer give me an option not to install the entire iLife'08 suite over what I have right now? Thanks!

As the Prime Minister has pointed out Leopard doesn't include iLife 08. It is a separate $79 purchase.
Your G4 (and mine) can't even install iMovie 7 so a purchase would do you no good.
But, if you bought a new Mac it would come installed with Leopard ($129) and a free version of iLife 08.
Over $200 in savings right off the bat!

Hi, Possibly silly question. System requirements?

Hi, I am thinking about buying an Imac, (All system info below). I work with game design/sound design and film design/editing (unreal engine, adobe premire pro, after effects, photoshop and Illustrator, pro tools and logic pro)
I just want to make sure that the mac I am buying will hit all the system requirements so I can work efficiently with no lag. Anyone with knowledge on this topic that can bring info help will be amazing. tried to call adobe, but its close to impossible

The RAM is the minimum required for After Effects. I would want AT LEAST double that - quadruple that, if you can.
System requirements | After Effects (there are similar pages for every piece of Adobe software)
The GPU doesn't really matter for AE, but it does for Premiere.

I have the following code, trying to read an int and a string into two variables using System.in and DataInputStream:

The class uses a Student object -attributes are name\String, id\int and Grades (Grade class has grade obtained\int and a comment from the teacher\String).
My questions are: (as bolded in the code)
1) at "g = dis.readInt()" I have to press Enter 3 times to finish the reading (one after entering a single int and then just 2 times Enter). Should I add bellow this line "System.in.read()" to clear the newline\return character?! What exactly does "System.in.read()" clears? After leaving the method readInt() the variable g has an enormous value... like 9 digits... why? I also tried "g = (int)dis.readInt()" but the results are the same... I want to read an int from keyboard, but using DataInputStream, not with System.in.read()
2) at this line the program never ends, it tries continuously to read characters... no matter what I enter it does not complete... I want to read a String from keyboard, but again using DataInputStream...

Fun Fact: Even if you had used Scanner.nextInt() to get your integer from the console, you still need to do a .nextLine() as .nextInt() only reads up to the newline and does not consume it.

Confused about System Requirements for CS6 Master Collection...

For my Design Technology and Photography studies, it is recommended that I have the CS6 Master Collection installed on my laptop as well as my desktop computer (so I can still work when I'm not at school, of course) - but I'm not sure if my laptop can handle it all...
Here's what I've got:
Compaq Presario CQ56 laptop / notebook with:
- 2gb RAM
- Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit, service pack 1)
- Intel Celeron Dual-Core CPU T3500 at 2.10GHz (I'll admit that I don't know what that entails - I know it runs things, but aside from that I'm pretty clueless)
- Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family (I don't really know what this is, either)

(P.S: Yes, I know it's a pretty cheap laptop, and that the screen isn't perfect... but for my more serious work, I also plan on running the software on my home computer [which I know completely fulfils the requirements because it's exactly the same as the computers they use at school )

Well, could all the MC apps run on this system? Probably not. Could PS, AI and ID run on it along with Acrobat? Maybe. The critical factor will be, whether they actually install. Since the screen res is too small and your memory outfit is the bare minimum, you may already hit a dead end on that when the installer refuses to proceed because the requirements are not met. If it does, then using the apps probably will work, but it won't be much fun. things will feel slow and e.g. hardware acceleration in PS not be available.

Various questions about System Restore Point

How can I delete old System Restore Points?
Is it possible to move the folder that holds them to a different drive then C:?
Can I limit the amount of data System Restore is allowed to have?
I have downloaded the TreeSize program to see what is using up so much space on my SSD and a folder named "System Volume Information" has 17GB of storage. Now I have found out that this is the folder that keeps System Restore Points and I checked
on my restore points. There are too many of them and I was wondering if I could delete some of the old ones? I read on another post that someone said that you could limit the amount of data System Restore is allowed to use. Is this possible?

Question about System.in, FileoutputStream and blocking

Hello everybody,
I have written a simple java program that read the System.in and append it to file (which is the first argument of the program).
Here is the context: my client launch several instance of this program at the same time, with the same file passed in argument. In a first time, I did not use the FileChannel.lock() method because I didn't know there will be several instance, but this is not the question.
The problem is simple: sometime, I can't figure why (and this is why I'm here to ask you), one of the process block, and stay like this until my client kill it.
So why? It has something to do with the absence of FileChannel.lock()?
My client is on Solaris, don't know which version, with a JDK 1.5.0_04

Hey guys I have a quick Urgent question that would be awesome if it happens to get answered quickly :).
So in the past we had problems with different server names in components of System Center when setting up different servers.... I never myself saw the errors or what it did, but an absentee colleague did. For example is anything wrong with a name setup like
xx-scom-01 / xx-scom-02 as compared to the standard scom01 scom02? We have a certain naming convention we are moving to and I wanted to see if this was fixed. I wanted to say it had something to do with the hyphens... anyways any foresight anyone can

Well generically the answer is NO.
There is always a chance that some device manufacturer have supplied (if at all) some API to do this. But I am yet to heard about any device in the market to have this. Only what I heard that Nokia is in its way to supply some API like this with there Series 40 3'rd edition phones (ref. http://developers.sun.com/learning/javaoneonline/sessions/2006/TS-4447/index.html?). But they haven't yet announced anything on the release of it.

I'm in the latest steps of creating my new In-Design plugin and I was studying the ways I can publish it and Adobe Exchange looks like a good option, but here they are saying:
Paid Content must have a certified signature. (Content posted as Free will be accepted with a self-signed certificate.)Extension Manager should be able to verify the Producer’s signature. An application should be signed by a certificate issued by one of the following certificate authorities:
Chosen Security Thawte, Globalsign, Verisign, Comodo, Usertrust, Godaddy
And here, they say:
blah ... so that you know that a trusted authority certificate will no longer be required. ...
So, I'm a bit confused, my question is:
1. is it required really to have these certificates?!
2. If yes, how we are supposed to do this?

Satellite L350-171: Question about Draft N in Wlan card Intel 5100

Recently swapped to this machine after having fun with a P300.
My question is this; under the properties of the 5100 in Device Manager, there is an option to enable draft-n, but draft-n is not a option to select in the wireless mode.
Is draft-n a auto selection or am I missing something?

In my Intel WLan driver the Draft N is also not available in wireless mode.
There are only settings fro the A b or G. But the 802.11 N mode is enabled.
If this setting is enabled then your WLan will support the high throughput mode (MINO 802.11n)
So if your WLan router supports and provides the Draft N feature then your WLan card should choose it automatically.
PS; Please ensure that you are using the latest WLan driver from the Intel page!
