I want to put the hard disk drive in the ultrabay for storage and a crucial m4 7mm solid state drive
(http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148530&nm_mc=OTC-sho6b0tCA&cm_mmc=OTC-sho6b0...)
 in the main bay as a boot drive and for programs
(i would get the samsung 830 7mm 256gb ssd, but there is only one online store that sells it in canada and it is a bit more expensive)
When installing the hard drive in the ultrabay, it needs the hard drive caddy.
Lenovo sells an official one, but there is also one from NewModeUS, according to various forum posts apparently works better and is slightly cheaper
http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_reviews&cPath=2_7&products_id=400
I talked to a tech on the phone and he said that the 500gb will come with some rubber rails, but i will need more for the SSD
Is it also possible to install a 9.5mm SSD into the main bay without rails?
If not, can someone link me to the rails on the lenovo site? i rather not have to deal with Ebay even if it is a few bucks more...
i also want to upgrade from the default 4gb of ram already in the laptop by removing the original and replacing with new modules to use dual channel mode at 1600mhz
Crucial says on their website both of these are compatible
1.35v
1600mhz
16gb (8gb x 2) 173$
http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=03E9F8D4A5CA7304
8gb (4gb x 2) 53$
http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=F985A7F2A5CA7304
i haven't decided if i will need 16gb of ram for the coding I will do once i start my CS degree in the fall, but i assume if I am using lots of Virtual machines or what not to run Linux side by side with Windows, (that's possible right?) it might gobble up the GB's, i also might experiment with ram disks to see how those work...
also:
any tips on reinstalling operating system on SSD so i retain the lenovo utilities that came on the factory image on the HDD,
I know you can download most of them from lenovo to install, but are there any that are only from the factory image?
should i make a clean install or make disc image?
Is there anything that I missed that might not make these upgrades go as smoothly as possible?
any info is appreciated

I have a machine with essentially the same specs, except I have 16GB of ram. I'd say get the RAM. 16GB makes my machine run like a dream. i'm in engineering, so I run AutoCAD and other similar applications. If you do use VM's, then you will want the extra memory as well. The machine can run linux, but with the loss of the Optimus, as it is not supported well. Do a clean install, but make the Recovery dvds first. also go to the root of the hard drive and back up the SWTOOLS and swshare folders. those contain all of the preloaded software. I always do a clean install when I get a new machine. Everything else looks good.
W530(2436-CTO): i7-3720QM, nVidia Quadro K2000M,16GB RAM, 500 GB hard drive, 128GB mSATA SSD, Ubuntu 14.04 Gnome, Centrino Ultimate-N 6300.
Yoga 3 Pro: Intel Core-M 5Y70, Intel HD 5300, 8GB RAM, 128GB eMMC, Windows 8.1, Broadcom Wireless 802.11ac.

  • Few questions about the iMac I ordered.

    Hi,
    I ordered an 400MHZ,128MB,DVD-ROM,13GB,OS9,2FW,2USB slotloading iMac and while I wait for it I want to ask a few questions.
    1. Is there anyway to connect anything serial to it? I have alot of other Apple stuff like my other older Macs and Newton that I want to connect to it.
    2. Will Tiger run smoothly with 512MB? How about 256MB?
    3. Can I upgrade the processor? Like to a 500MHZ or better a GHZ?
    4. I have disks from my previous iMac (Slot Loading) will they work with this one?
    5. I need firmware updates! Where to get them?
    6. No floppy? Can I get an external?
    7. How much fater then a 604ev 300MHZ?
    8. Can I run a game that requires a 1 GHZ processor on my iMac? This may sound like a silly question but I really never tried it!
    9. Is it noisy like my PowerMac 8600/300?
    10. Can I upgrade it to OS 9.2.2 without MacOShelper?
    11. It has OS 9.0.4 can I just install OS 9.2.2 without the need of installing OS 9.1,OS 9.2.1?
    12. Is the HDD upgradable? To what?
    13. VRAM is going to be a problem! Can I upgrade it?
    14. Can I connect a VGA or APPLE monitor to it for an extra display?
    15. Will the built in monitor support 800x600,1024x768 resolution?
    16. Can I change the color of it?
    17. Max RAM?
    18. DVD-RW compatible?
    19. Internal floppy compatible?
    20. CD-RW compatible?
    Thanks all You dont need to answer them all just answer as many as you can please!

    1) you can get serial to USb adaptors. How well they work I can't vouch for. If its something that is replaceable by a newer version, its often cheaper to do so.
    2) 256 megs is about the minimum it will run with. 512 would be much better, 1 gig of ram would be best. see ramseeker.com and crucial.com
    3) fastmac.com is the only place I know of that does any upgrades on slot loaders anymore. its expensive, and not worth it. If you wanted a faster machine, you should have bought one frankly. a used eMac could be gotten cheap and be better in every way.
    4) depends. if they are form the same generation, then yes. If not, then it could be questionable.
    5) firmware updates are easily accesible from apples software download section of their support page. you need firmware update 4.1.9 for a slot loader, and it must be installed before installing OS X.
    6) Do you really need a floppy? Cripes, get a USB keychain drive. They are like 20 bucks and will work on any machine. Hold way more than a floppy to and are smaller. If you really need them, then yes, floppy drives are available externally.
    7) hard to quantify exactly how much faster, but a G3 is a much better chip than the 604 from all accounts I've read. you might find benchmarks somewhere like xlr8yourmac.com
    8) Doubtful you can run a game where you don't meet the minimum specs. Not just because of the processor speed, but some require G4's (G3's never made it that fast), or better graphics cards than are in that iMac.
    9) a slot loader is essentially silent when sleeping. There's no fan to make a lot of noise. S light hum form the CRT and the hard drive is all the noise there will be. Its one of the quietest machines ever made by anyone.
    10) I don't even know what macoshelper is, but upgrading to 9.2 is a pretty painless procedure and doesn't require anything other than the downloaded upgrade.
    11) you need 9.1 before going to 9.2 unless you have a full retail install of 9.2.
    12) hard drive i upgradeable to 137 gigs. 7200 rpm drives are fine. external drives have no limit on them.
    13) vram is not upgradeable.
    14) that model iMac has a vga port on the back of it, but its for mirroring only, not extended desktop.
    15) yes, the monitor supports both those resolutions.
    16) not easily. you'd have to find an empty case and swap out parts, which means exposing some of the stuff in the CRT, which you do NOT want to mess with unless you know what you are doing.
    17) max ram is two 512 meg chips for 1 gig.
    18) DVD-RW's should work, but any burned media can be dodgy. Note this is for reading only. There's no burner. You could upgrade to a burner, but it would be sssssllllllooooooowwwwwwww.
    19) internal floppy is not possible.
    20) cd-rw will read fine, but again, it doesn't have a burner on it. You could upgrade internal or external.

  • Question about the order to creating Account, Contact, Contact Role

    Hi, my friends,
    I have some questions about the order of creating Account, Contact, Contact Role, etc in Web Service 1.0. I could create them in the following case:
    1. Insert Contact object and get contactId (now new contact exists in CRMOD)
    2. Insert Account object with Contact Role child associated with contactId
    My questions are:
    1. Do we have the following order? Insert new Account with new Contact child and Contact Role child (Contact is new and does not exist in CRMOD).
    2. Looks like system need accountId, contactId, etc to make the objects relationship. Is there other field having the same function?
    Thanks
    Ray

    Hi Ray,
    In response to your questions:
    1. Do we have the following order? Insert new Account with new Contact child and Contact Role child (Contact is new and does not exist in CRMOD).No. Both the Account and Contact must already exist. The Role value is an attribute on the Account Contact relationship, this relationship must exist in order to assign a role value to it. This is consistent with the behaviour of the UI, when you press the New button on the Contact child applet, you are taken to the Contact New page where you can create a Contact record. Once you save, the relationship is created but you cannot assign a role value unless you click the Edit Roles link next to the new Contact.
    2. Looks like system need accountId, contactId, etc to make the objects relationship. Is there other field having the same function?Correct, the system needs to know which Account/Contact pair is being assigned a role value. To do this the Account and Contact values must be uniquely identified using the Id values for each.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Sean

  • A question about the execution order of java code

    I have a question about the order of the execution of java code.
    class myclass
    String str1 = new String("str1");
    static String str2 = new String("str2");
    static
    String str3 = new String("str3");
    myclass( )
    String str4 = new String("str4");
    static myfuntion()
    String str5 = new String("str5");
    When I new a myclass object, what is the order of execution about str1,str2.str3 ,str4?
    When I run myclass::myfunction( ) instead of new a myclass object what is the execution order about str1, str2, str3, str4, str5?
    Thanks

    hello,
    I think there may be one thing can't use println to make sure.
    class myclass
    static {  System.out.println("str1");   };
    myclass() { System.out.println("str2"); }
    then str1 appear before str2
    class myclass
    static {  String str1 = new String("str1"); };
    myclass() { String str2 = new String("str2"); }
    then
    str1 initilized before str2,
    str1 get the value str1----->after<----- str2.
    Am I right or wrong?

  • The question about the sharepoint server 2010 install

    Hi Friends,
    i have a question about the sharepoint server 2010 install.
    my computer is used the windows server 2008 service pack 1. in order to install the sharepoint 2010 server, i need to choose to windows server 2008 service pack 2. my question is when i install the windows server 2008 service pack 2,whether the inside
    of my computer  information will be lost or change?
    thank you in advance.
    Qearl

    Hi ,
    No data will be lost either from your Windows program files or other drives as long as it is an upgrade.
    After upgrade you will still be able to see your old program files under windows.ol folder in the C: Drive of the new OS.
    The data will be lost only when you perform a clean install like complete formatting the HArd disk and installing from scratch.
    As mentioned it always good to maintain a backup preferable important files in a skydrive as there is a good chance of external drives crashing.

  • A question about the impact of SQL*PLUS SERVEROUTPUT option on v$sql

    Hello everybody,
    SQL> SELECT * FROM v$version;
    BANNER
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
    PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    CORE    11.2.0.1.0  Production
    TNS for Linux: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    SQL>
    OS : Fedora Core 17 (X86_64) Kernel 3.6.6-1.fc17.x86_64I would like to ask a question about the SQL*Plus SET SERVEROUTPUT ON/OFF option and its impact on queries on views such as v$sql and v$session. Here is the problem
    Actually I define three variables in SQL*Plus in order to store sid, serial# and prev_sql_id columns from v$session in order to be able to use them later, several times in different other queries, while I'm still working in the current session.
    So, here is how I proceed
    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON;  -- I often activate this option as the first line of almost all of my SQL-PL/SQL script files
    SET SQLBLANKLINES ON;
    VARIABLE mysid NUMBER
    VARIABLE myserial# NUMBER;
    VARIABLE saved_sql_id VARCHAR2(13);
    -- So first I store sid and serial# for the current session
    BEGIN
        SELECT sid, serial# INTO :mysid, :myserial#
        FROM v$session
        WHERE audsid = SYS_CONTEXT('UserEnv', 'SessionId');
    END;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    -- Just check to see the result
    SQL> SELECT :mysid, :myserial# FROM DUAL;
        :MYSID :MYSERIAL#
           129   1067
    SQL> Now, let's say that I want to run the following query as the last SQL statement run within my current session
    SELECT * FROM employees WHERE salary >= 2800 AND ROWNUM <= 10;According to Oracle® Database Reference 11g Release 2 (11.2) description for v$session
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25513/dynviews_3016.htm#REFRN30223]
    the column prev_sql_id includes the sql_id of the last sql statement executed for the given sid and serial# which in the case of my example, it will be the above mentioned SELECT query on the employees table. As a result, right after the SELECT statement on the employees table I run the following
    BEGIN
        SELECT prev_sql_id INTO :saved_sql_id
        FROM v$session
        WHERE sid = :mysid AND serial# = :myserial#;
    END;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> SELECT :saved_sql_id FROM DUAL;
    :SAVED_SQL_ID
    9babjv8yq8ru3
    SQL> Having the value of sql_id, I'm supposed to find all information about cursor(s) for my SELECT statement and also its sql_text value in v$sql. Yet here is what I get when I query v$sql upon the stored sql_id
    SELECT child_number, sql_id, sql_text
    FROM v$sql
    WHERE sql_id = :saved_sql_id;
    CHILD_NUMBER   SQL_ID          SQL_TEXT
    0              9babjv8yq8ru3    BEGIN DBMS_OUTPUT.GET_LINES(:LINES, :NUMLINES); END;Therefore instead of
    SELECT * FROM employees WHERE salary >= 2800 AND ROWNUM <= 10;for the value of sql_text I get the following value
    BEGIN DBMS_OUTPUT.GET_LINES(:LINES, :NUMLINES);Which is not of course what I was expecting to find in v$sql for the given sql_id.
    After a bit googling I found the following thread on the OTN forum where it had been suggested (well I think maybe not exactly for the same problem) to turn off SERVEROUTPUT.
    Problem with dbms_xplan.display_cursor
    This was precisely what I did
    SET SERVEROUTPUT OFFafter that I repeated the whole procedure and this time everything worked pretty well as expected. I checked SQL*Plus documentation for SERVEROUTPUT
    and also v$session page, yet I didn't find anything indicating that SERVEROUTPUT should be switched off whenever views such as v$sql, v$session
    are queired. I don't really understand the link in terms of impact that one can have on the other or better to say rather, why there is an impact
    Could anyone kindly make some clarification?
    thanks in advance,
    Regards,

    Hi Dariyoosh,
    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON has the effect of executing dbms_output.get_lines after each and every statement. Not only related to system view.
    Here below what Tom Kyte is explaining in this page:
    Now, sqlplus sees this functionality and says "hey, would not it be nice for me to dump this buffer to screen for the user?". So, they added the SQLPlus command "set serveroutput on" which does two things
    1) it tells SQLPLUS you would like it <b>to execute dbms_output.get_lines after each and every statement</b>. You would like it to do this network rounding after each call. You would like this extra overhead to take place (think of an install script with hundreds/thousands of statements to be executed -- perhaps, just perhaps you don't want this extra call after every call)
    2) SQLPLUS automatically calls the dbms_output API "enable" to turn on the buffering that happens in the package.Regards.

  • Question about the programming of a legend

    Hello everybody,
    I have a question about the programming of a waveform's legend. I
    already asked here in this forum about the legend programming (03)
    months ago.
    I went satisfied but I ve just noticed that this code
    (See Code old_legend_test.llb with main.vi as main function) operates a
    little different from my expectances.
    Therefore I have a new question and I want to know if it
    is possible by labview programming to plot and show, on a waveform
    chart, a signal with activ plot superior to zero (0) without to be
    obliged to plot and show a signal with activ plot equal to zero (0) or
    inferior to the desired activ plot.
    I give you an example
    of what I m meaning. I have by example 4 signals (Signal 0, 1, 2 and 3)
    and each signal corresponds respectively to a channel (Chan1, Chan2,
    Chan3, Chan4). I want to control the legend (activ plot, plot name and
    plot color) programmatically. Is it possible with labview to plot signal
    1 or 2 or 3 or (1, 3) or (2,3) or (1,2,3) or other possible combination
    without to active the signal with the corresponding activ plot zero
    (0)?
    Let see the labview attached data
    (new_legend_test.llb with main.vi as main function). When I try to
    control the input selected values again I get them back but I don't
    understand why they have no effect on the legend of my waveform chart.
    Could somebody explain me what I m doing wrong or show me how to get a
    correct legend with desired plots? Thank by advance for your assistance.
    N.B.
    The
    both attached data are saved with labview 2009.

    Hi
    princejack,
    Thanks for
    posting on National Instruments forum.
    The behavior
    you have is completely normal. You can control the number of row displayed in
    the legend and this rows are linked to the data you send to your graph. Thus,
    if you have 3 arrays of data, let say chan1, chan2 and chan3, you can choose
    which data you want to display in your graph using the property node (Active
    plot and visible). But for the legend as you send 3 plots there is an array of
    the plot name [chan1, chan2, chan3] and you can display 0, 1, 2 or 3 rows of
    this array but you cannot control the order in this array! So, to be able to
    change this array you have to only send data you need to you graph. I'm not
    sure my explanations are clear so I have implemented a simple example doing
    that.

  • Question about the new Yoga 10 HD+

    Hi
    A few questions about the new Yoga 10 HD+ which I hope you can answer.
    I bought the old model last year. Loved the design and long battery time but a few major issues made me return it.
    Somewhere I read that it can't read NTFS over USB so I presume that's the same with an NTFS formatted microSD card?
    Can it read exFAT formatted microSD cards?
    Anyone observed issues regarding audio over bluetooth?
    (I know BT isn't exactly High End HiFi but the old Yoga 10 for some odd reason - most likely a driver issue which nobody cared to fix - sounded *much* worse with quite noticeably distortion while both my phone and a cheap noname tablet I have zero fidelity issues - no matter which of my bluetooth audio devices I tried aptX or not)
    So to avoid buying this only to return it too I really would like to see if I can have my questions answered before buying it.
    While I love the form factor and long running time the above issues are just two mayor dealbreakers to me. Bad audio quality = no joy listening to spotify, local MP3s etc. No NTFS or exFAT = no large movies.
    My old noname android tablet really could use an upgrade so I'm really curious whether this can be it or I should look at the competition and sacrify form factor and battery runtime.
    Thanks in advance.
    EDIT:
    If it's not supporting either NTFS or exFAT on the microSD have anyone tried ext3 and/or ext4?
    I mean with Androids Linux roots it should be a nobrainer to support at least when it comes to royalties unlike NTFS or exFAT where there *might* be some issues with Microsoft.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks!
    OK. Seems I should just stay clear of this and look elsewhere
    Sony for sure I know support exFAT. I'm usure about Samsung. Odd it seems so hard to find out. File sizes of +4 GB should be taken for granted - it's not 199x anymore...
    Oh well. Wonder whether to just go for one from the competition or perhaps just save the money and wait until 64 bit catches on. Rumors is that the next Nexus 8 will be 64 bit... (I really don't expect an answer on this)

    I want to know - Will I still have my bookmarks, history, addons, plugins, etc.? I do not know what plugins and such that I had. What about my pinned tabs and my tabs that where open.
    More information - When I try to start Firefox I keep getting the message that I need to restart my computer in order to complete a previous update attempt. I had Sweetpacks on my PC and I do not know where it came from, it took over my home page in Internet Explorer and Ithink caused the issue with Firefox.
    Should I do the clean install or try starting Firefox now.

  • Question about the function module (RFC_READ_TABLE)

    Dear everyone
    Could I ask you a question about the function module (RFC_READ_TABLE)?
    I was asked if it's possible to create a report which compares the data between different SAP systems (both production systems).
    Now, the easiest way would be to use the function module (RFC_READ_TABLE) within a SAP infoset query (SQ01 type query).
    But I heard the rumor that using the function module (RFC_READ_TABLE) is not advisable due to the security reason.
    However, I am not exactly sure what sort of security problems this function module can possibly have...
    Would you help me on this?
    I also would like to know if using "remote enabled module" type function module can always overcome this possible security issue.
    Or, are there any points that I need to be careful about even when I use "remote enabled module" function module?
    Thank you very much in advance.
    Takashi

    Dear Fred-san
    Thank you very much for your support on this.
    But, may I double check about what you mentioned above?
    So, what you were mentioning was that if some user executes the query with
    the function module (RFC_READ_TABLE), under the following conditions, he can access to
    the HR data even when he does not have the authorizations for HR transactions?
    <Conditions>
    1. the user has the authorization for HR database tables themselves
    2. RFC_READ_TABLE is called to retrieve the data from HR database
    <example>
    Data: LF_HR_TABLE like  DD02L-TABNAME value 'PA0000'.
    CALL FUNCTION 'RFC_READ_TABLE'
       EXPORTING
        query_table                = LF_HR_TABLE
      TABLES
       OPTIONS                    =
       fields                     =
       data                       =    .
    But then, as long as we call this function module for a non-critical tables such as
    VBAP (sales order) or EKKO (purchase order) within our query, it wouldn't seem to be
    so security risk to use RFC_READ_TABLE...
    Besides, each query (infoset query) has got the concept of user groups, which limits
    the access to the queries within the user group.
    ※If someone does not belong to the user group, he cannot execute the queries within that
       user group, etc
    So, my feeling is that even infoset queries does have authorization concept...
    Would you give me your thought on this?
    I also thank you for your information for SCU0.
    That is an interesting transaction
    Kind regards,

  • Muvo V200, question about the play m

    Hello,I have a question about the play mode on my V200. I want to play the songs in a specific order (like in a playlist) but I don't find the way to do this. Can you help me please ?
    Thanks
    (sorry if I don't speak english very well, but I'm french )

    Hi!
    To get the tracks to play in a specific order, put numbers at the beginning of each file name. E.g.: file 'examplesong.mp3' would become '0_ examplesong.mp3' Don't spend years doing that manually though; the computer will do it for you! Click on 'my computer', then click on 'Muvo V200 media explorer'.. This shows the contents of your player. Choose the folder that you want to reorder the songs in...
    ( it's best to put the songs in folders, like you would in a floppy disk, as the muvo can only hold a certain amount in the root directory, and folders are great for organisation - eg: you can put one CD in each folder, and then the player will play all of the tracks in that folder before moving on to the next one )
    ...and click on it to display the songs. In the pictures along the top of the window, 4th from the right is an icon with a downward facing arrow and an A above a Z. Click on this, it's called 'custom sort'. You can then use the arrows at the bottom to change the order of your tracks to how you want them. Click OK, and they'll all be numbered (and so will play) in that order.
    Hope that helps!

  • I'm looking to buy a new Macbook Pro, and have questions about the Applecare extended warranty?

    I'm looking to buy a new Macbook Pro, and have questions about the Applecare extended warranty? I want to know if the 3 year extended warranty covers what damage. Like water damage, accidental damage, lost or stolen macbook, manufactory defects, or any other kind of damage, maybe be even cosmetic damage. Can anyone help me?

    If you are talking about features of the MBP itself, as long as you are not looking at  the Retina models, then the memory you can upgrade yourself for a lot less than Apple charges, and that does not affect the warranty as Apple considers memory a user permitted upgrade.  Great sources are Crucial and OWC, both are Mac specialists and have on-line videos on how to do the install.
    If the 15" is what you are looking at, a good upgrade is the 7200 rpm hard drive, gives a little better performance over the standard 5400 rpm drive.
    The Hi Res screen is good if you do a lot of graphics work.
    Comparing the 13" amd 15" you will notice the 15" has a second, discrete graphic processor...helps when you get into heavy duty videos, games, graphics...but keep in mind that kicking in the second processor uses a lot of power and will run the battery down faster.
    If you are looking at the Retina models, then keep in mind there are no post-purchase upgrade options...you have to buy with everything you want at the start.
    Just some thoughts.

  • A question about the XS key

    Hi,
    I have a quick question about the XS key used for Logic. Now, the XS key is a small piece of hardware and it is very susceptible to being misplaced or lost.
    If someone were to lose the XS key, how would one be able to obtain another XS Key? Would that person need to buy Logic all over again? Or can they make a special order to get another one based on proof of ownership of Logic?
    it's just a small question.
    thanks
    -Justin

    There have been threads about this recently if you search for them.
    I think someone said they got theirs replaced for about $80.

  • 4 questions about the the top boxes - SD box and Home media DVR

    Hello. I am going to be getting Fios soon and I have some questions about the boxes. I will be getting the Home Media DVR and 4 SD boxes.
    1) Do these boxes have timers on them to set so the box can turn off at a certain time?
    2) Do these boxes have parental control and if so is it good enough to block things that I do not want my child to see?
    3) How many people can access the home media dvr at the same time to watch already recorded programs
    4) If the Home Media DVR is in the family room can a record be started from the bedroom over the SD set top box (even an hd show)?
    Thanks for any help.

    I have been using two Standard Set Top Boxes for about a year. I have Parental Controls on and all channels locked. When I want to watch a channel, I tune to that channel, note the LOCKED message, which tells me to press the OK button to enter ther Parental Controls PIN and unlock the channel for viewing.
    This has worked flawlessliy for the last year -- ON THE Standard STB's.
    I just ordered the Home Media DVR STB to replace one of my Standardt STB..
    On the Home Media DVR:
    I can set the Parentals Control PIN and lock the channels, in the exact same way I did o nthe Standard STB's. However, when  tuen to ANY channel, I still ge the LOCKED message and instructions to press OK to unlock the channel -- BUT no matter how I press the OK button, the Enter your Parental Conlrols PIN dialog box willl NOT open. Nothing happens -- you CAN NOT view any channel.
    Again, it is the EXACT setup as for the Standard STB, but the OK button will NOT unlock any of the channels.
    If you unlock all channels and LOCK the Ratings, the same problem recurs: OK buitton will never open the "enter your PIN" dialog box.
    I have received two replacement boxes and have spent hours on the phone with some very capable and helpful Techs -- no luck.
    Has anyone else had the same problem? Here's how to test your Home Media DVR:
    1. Menu-Settings-Parental Controls.
    2. You will be prompted to CREATE youre Parental Controls PIN
    3. Enter you PIN twice.
    4. Use the > button to scroll to Enable On/Off and set it on.
    5. scroll down to Control Channels
    6. Press > button to See Locked Channels
    7. Scroll down to Add/Remove Channels
    8. Scroll right to choose LOCK ALL
    9. Press OK and then scroll to YES to lock all channels
    10. Press EXIT to get out of settings.
    11. All channels are now locked.
    12. Go to any channel
    13. A black screen will appear with a lock silhouette with the word LOCKED below, followed by instructions to Press OK to enter PIN and unlock this channel. (plus how to change locks...).
    14.Press the OK button and, if it is working, you will see a dialog box at the bottom of the screen that is titled: UNLOCK, with the channel listed and the instructions to "Enter your PIN using your numeric pad on remote to naje this channel availabe for all users." THere's a PIN box, which shows asterisks for each number entered, with "Press Exit to Cancel" below.
    15. On the Standard STB, it works exactly as described in steps 1 thru 14. On the Media Center DVR, it works up to step `13, but in 14, no matter how you press the OK button, the UNLOCK dialog box never pops us. The Remote STB light flashes on the remove and the REMOTE yellow light flashes on the DVR,  but nothng happens.
    If you have a Home Media DVR, can you please try this and see if it works?
    Thanks,
    John
