Questions about Using Itunes for Nano. New User

Hi everyone! i am a new ipod user that is new to the itunes software. I have a few questions regarding making playlists and transferring them into the ipod nano and deleting songs from the ipod nano thru itunes or the device. Can someone provide a link or a detail procedure? i've tried already and i can't figure it out. Thank you!

If I understand what it is you want to accomplish correctly, you can do this if you turn off automatic synchronization. Connect your iPod and click the iPod Options button at the bottom of iTunes. Click the Music button and select "Manually manage songs and playlists." You can then delete specific tracks and playlists directly from the iPod, In addition, iTunes will then not automatically remove the tracks from the iPod if you delete them from iTunes. Note that you'll have to drag songs from your library or playlist to iPod in the Source list to add new tracks.

I think you meant 10.6.8, not 10.8.6
It requires an upgrade, instead of a free update.

Question about using numbers for an address spread sheet

I am using numbers for a mailing address spread sheet. When I try to type in a Massachusetts zip code, once I hit "enter" the cell deletes the zero, which is the first number in the zip code. How can I change this? Thank you

Question about using plans for more than one device

I have a Verizon wireless broad band modem I currently use in conjunction for my lap top. I am looking at getting a cell phone soon and I am curious if I can use that plan, that is currently attached to the modem, with this hypothetical cellphone as well, or if I would need get separate plans for both devices.

If you want to keep your data from being merged, you will need to have separate iCloud accounts with separate IDs. You can still track your devices using Find My iPhone, you will just need to be signed into the iCloud account for the device you are trying to track. You can also continue to share the same ID for iTunes purchasing; it does not need to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.
In order to migrate your daughter to her own account, on her phone go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from her phone, not from iCloud. Your devices will not be effected by this.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, choose Keep On My iPhone. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload her data to the new account.
You can then go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want from each account (such as deleting your daughter's contacts from your account, and vice versa).

Question about using VMware Fusion with mutiple user accounts on the mac

I know this isn't a Fusion forum as such, but wondered if anyone knew the answer to this problem. I installed the latest version of fusion on my machine and a copy of windows XP. It's very good and am impressed with the ease and speed of it. However, I am the administrator and my 3 children have user accounts on the same computer. When my son logs in to his user account and starts up Fusion to do some homework on a windows only program, there isn't a virtual machine to start up. Does this mean that using fusion I can only use one mac user account? Or can I move the windows folder to a location for all to use, or is there a setting that I need to alter in Fusion? Perhaps I need to install windows again on his account. If so will this cause other potential problems and unnecessarily hog hard drive space. I would prefer fusion to boot camp because I need both windows and mac at the same time. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you ask the VMware Community?
My guess is yes, you need to put it in a Public folder or outside your account. XP doesn't take a lot of disk space, so maybe they should have their own (but then you need another copy/license).
You may need to edit one of the prefs files pointing to the image, unless an alias or symbolic link will do.
VirtualBox is free VM and is probably more than able to handle their needs.
Probably need / want to create a new Windows user account while you are at it.

Question about using onyx for maintenance.....

after using this app to maintain, clean up, and clear cahes, log files etc, the applications used to open certain files as default was changed and as a result so were their icons...
when i restarted my mac i noticed that some of my files (mainly .doc) where given the default icon picture instead of the microsoft word icon and i had to re set them all to open as default with microsoft word
i know this is a result of something ive done in onyx but am unsure which

Design question about using DHCP for an SSID

I've got an SSID that I would like to send out to a public subnet (wifi for guests in the building) but because it's public i don't want to waste a lot of addresses. So i'm considering a DMZ-type area for the clients to get a RFC1918 address with a single address on the outside.
Something like this:
Clients -> WLC4402 -> 10.x.x.xpool -> ??? -> Public subnet
I know the WLC can dish out my 10.x.x.x subnet to the clients. But my question is the ??? between that and a single IP address and the Public subnet.
The WLC can't handle that part can it?
Obviously i could just use a simple linksys router or something to handle that and the ip address pool, but i was hoping there was something in the WLC that can handle it all for me.
Ideas? Suggestions?

I guess you are looking for the NAT on the WLC.. this feature is not der on WLC yet.. the WLC acts as a perfect layer 2 device.. this is done only on the layer 3 device currently..

Make sure that your bean is implementing the serializable interface and that
you are accessing the bean from the session with the same name.

Question about using new battery in old Powerbook

I have a pre-intel Powerbook G4, and the battery is pretty much toast (lasts about 15 minutes now). I have ordered a new battery for it, and I have this question about using it:
Am I smarter to keep the new strong battery out of the PB most days (as I usually work with it plugged in at home) and just pop it in when I know I will be out surfing on batteries? Or is it just as good living in my laptop 24/7 and only occasionally being called upon to do its job?

Hi, Shereen. Every Powerbook battery wants to be used — drained and then recharged — at least every couple of weeks. If you've always used your Powerbook on AC power nearly all the time, and not followed that pattern of discharging and recharging the battery every week or two, it's possible that your use habits have shortened the lifespan and prematurely diminished the capacity of your old battery. Of course it's also possible that your battery is merely old, as a battery's capacity also diminishes with age regardless of how it's used. You didn't say how old the battery is in years, so this may or may not be an issue. I mention it only because it can be an issue.
For general information on handling a battery for the longest possible lifespan, see this article. My advice on the basis of that article and long experience reading these forums is that it would be OK to do as you propose, but I doubt that you'd derive any significant benefit from it. You would still want to be sure of putting the new battery through a charge/discharge cycle every week or two, even if you didn't have a reason to use the Powerbook away from home or your desk, because sitting unused outside the computer is just as bad for a battery as sitting unused inside it. And you should never remove the battery from your computer when it's completely or almost completely discharged and let it sit that way any longer than a day or two.

You do have Time Machine running, yes?
Or you use some other backup program?

You need to "authorize" the Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac then from the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click Store > Authorize This Computer.
Now, using the same Apple ID as you used to purchased iTunes media originally, you should be able to sync all your content.

plug your ipad to your computer, open your itunes, click on the ipad icon, at the first page there is an option to "restore" ipad to its factory settings, click it. Don't remove USB connection, wait until it finishes wiping the data and it should place a new window that asks you to register the ipad.
There you go, your iPad is sync with your itunes account under your name, its best to also use "Find my iPad" just in case it gets lost, you can track it from your computer. Very handy tool and its free!
But if you want the data that is in the iPad, back up it first and sync the content to your library before restoring it to its factory settings
