Questions about warranty on an external hard drive?

So, last year (around Christmas) I purchased a 2TB Toshiba External Hrard Drive. I used it often, up until today. Today, it seems to have gone haywire, as it is making clicking and beeping noises. Every time it clicks or beeps, the light on the drive goes off, and the motor seems to slow. Occasionaly, it works, but only if it is perfectly stable. I suspect bad drive heads, explaining the beeping and clicking. When it beeps and such, it is not recognized, and when I try to register the product, looking for warranty information and replacement, it fails. What am I to do? I really do like this drive, and would like to get another one. Please help!

  • Question about Transferring Files From External Hard Drive.

    Ok so heres the thing.
    I was having airport issues. blah blah they told me to reinstall everything from scratch with the installation disks. So i backed everything up on my harddrive, i clean installed..
    & then transferred my stuff.
    In addition to the user account i obviously created since it was clean installed. When i transferred my stuff back on.. it REcreated my old user account before i clean installed it.
    So i had 2 user accounts. my "old" & "new" one.
    that being said, does that mean i can get rid of the user account i just created??
    Also, logging on to my "old user account" will it REaffect my airport & other things.
    Basically will it be the exact same thing before i clean installed it??
    *or NEW again but just with my old stuff just back on it* [im hoping for this)
    or is it the same 'operating system' as before along with its problems.
    Because i don't want to have more issues.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    I suggest that you just leave both accounts there for the time being. Log into one of them, doesn't matter which, and use it for a while. Don't store any data until you know which one you want to use. Check out how Airport works, see if all your stuff is there etc. Then log into the other account for while and do the same. Then you can decide which one to keep. If you created any new data in the one to be deleted, be sure you move it to the one you will keep before deleting the other.

  • Question concerning data removal from external hard drive

    I have been backing up via Time Machine to a 500 Gig external hard drive. I will be adding a 1 TB external hard drive and switch the Time Machine backups to that unit. I want to then use the 500 Gig unit to store photos, music and video, to free up space on the iMac. I have found the tutorials/threads that explain how to move the photos and music. I have two questions.
    First, will moving video from iMovie work basically the same as moving the photos and/or music?
    Secondly, what is the proper way to remove the existing Time Machine data from the 500 gig unit, once I have the 1TB unit up and running and know that Time Machine is backing up to it?

    I can help with number two. There are two things you can do, one quickly, the second more securely.
    Both can be done with Disk Utility in the Apps/Utilities folder. Open DU with the HDD attached to your Mac and highlight the HDD in the left hand pane and choose Erase for the right hand pane. Press the Erase button. It should happen pretty fast, but because it is a big drive it may take a couple of minutes. But this does not really erase the data, and some recovery software could do a good job of getting a lot of you data back.
    Since you want to store media libraries on this drive perhaps a better way to condition the drive is to select a Security Option and write zeros to the drive. After this any bad sectors on the drive will be locked out and not used in the future. Because this is a big drive this could take a few hours.

  • Question on configuration of several external hard drives etc.?

    Hi, I could do with some advice...
    I have three external firewire hard drives, all Lacie D2s, (80GB, 200GB, and just purchased a 1TB). I also have an external Lacie D2 DVDRW DL. I know these devices can be chained, but recently I had a few problems with the best way to set them up. Traditionally I used one of each of the firewire outputs from my iMac to go to each external HD (80GB and 200GB), and from the 80GB I went into the DVDRW. I would then use the output of the DVDRW for either my iPod or iSight. I'd then have one output spare from the 200GB for a little 80GB FireLite hand held drive I have.
    With this configuration I would run into trouble burning DVDs on the external drive so I guessed transfer speed had become an issue with all of the chaining.
    Now I have the 1TB which has the triple interface, my question is, should I use the USB2.0 to connect it, and not have it as part of the firewire chain? From what I understand, FireWire is a better interface is it not? I wish the iMacs had FW800...
    I use the 80GB D2 solely to store a sample library for use with Logic/ProTools etc. The 200GB D2 is extra space for graphics/video/web design that I use on an every day basis. The 1TB D2 will be additional space mostly for archiving and backups. The DVDRW is a faster drive than the internal Super Drive, and often I'll find myself burning more than one thing at once so I'd like it all to work properly. Am I just asking too much out of this iMac??

    Try chaining all the HDs off one of the FW ports and just your DVDRW drive off the other. That way, at least, your DVDRW isn't chained off any other drive. The 2 FW connectors on the iMac are actually both connected in parallel to a single FW controller so theoretically there isn't any advantage to one way of connecting or the other, but sometimes the sequence of devices in the external chain does seem to make a difference.
    I have multiple d2's daisychained off my iMac G5 with a FW400 cable from the iMac to the first d2, then FW800 cables to chain the rest of the drives. Have never had a problem with any of the drives or this setup.
    I'd suggest arranging the daisychain such that your most used drive is the first and your least used drive the last in the chain; nothing magic about that, just something I'd do in principle.

  • A few questions about mobile recording (RME & MH & Hard drives)

    in a couple of months i will have enough for a laptop and a firewire interface.
    after quite a bit of obsessive research, it has come down to the metric halo MIO 2882--which i now favor as an option--and the rme fireface.
    I favor the metric halo because it is bus powered. this is actually the only thing that tipped the scales in favor of the metric halo, as the fireface has better preamps (apparently the 2882's pre's get hissy with high gain.)
    this brings me to my questions.
    1) if i run my rig off of battery power, i will not be able to use an external firewire drive. would i get acceptable stability from tracking to a 7200rpm internal drive? i understand that tracking to the system drive is ill advised, but what else is there to do?
    2)if it is ill advised to track to the internal hard drive, why shouldn't i just get the fireface and run everything from a power outlet? what use is having a bus powered interface when i can't track properly witout plugging my drive in anyway?
    3)how many owners of the 2882 track off of the powerbooks battery, and what has been your experience with this?

    Get anExpressCard/34 with a Firewire 800 input and run an external Fw800 drive off of that. (I assume that the ExpressCard isn't on the same bus as the FW400, but you might want to investigate that...) Before you get an external, do a few tests and record on the internal drive. See if the internal is adequate for your needs.
    Also, be sure to upgrade your MPB to have a 7200 rpm drive, the standard drive is the 5400 rpm.
    Concerning battery life... There isn't a lot of info on the new MBP battery life. In fact, you have to get to the specs page to get a mention of the battery info.

    I suggest doing a thorough search if this is a real concern. You can dim the screen and that dramicatically increases the battery life. I am not sure if the MPB have the same battery as the Powerbook, but for the old Powerbooks, you can purchase "tricked" out batteries that have a higher energy capacity.

  • Questions about installing a large internal hard drive

    Hello all,
    I recently bought a Seagate 250GB internal hard drive for my Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics). I intend to install it alongside my old 20GB drive. I have a couple of questions about installing it:
    • What kind of PCI card do I need in order to use the full capacity of the drive?
    • I'm considering partitioning the drive and installing Debian Linux on one partition. Is it possible that Debian won't recognize the PCI card?
    • Is it possible to connect (RAID?) the old and new drives together so that they appear as one big 270GB drive? Is this a good idea?
    • What is the easiest way to copy the contents of my old drive onto the new one? I'd like an exact copy so that I don't have to reinstall the system and everything else; can Carbon Copy Cloner do that?

    If the drive is an SATA drive you need an SATA controller. If an IDE/ATA drive you need an IDE controller.

    You should check the Hardware Compatibility List for Debian against your potential mac compatible purchases. You might also get some good information from Yellow Dog Linux compatibility lists.

    If you want to stripe the 2 dives together your overall performance will be slowed down by the slower of the two drives. For example, If you have one 5400rpm drive and another 7200rpm drive, the RAID will be bogged down by the slower drive so you wont get the full benefit of the lower latencies of the 7200. You will still get some of the faster transfer times, just not the lower latencies.
    Wether or not it's a good idea depends on your personal needs. Do you need a drive that can can move very large files to and from memory quickly (bandwidth) or a drive that can locate and serve up the files quickly (latency)?
    • What is the easiest way to copy the contents of my

    CCC should work fine for you. You could also use the command line asr utility.

  • I have 2 Questions on Formatting a New External Hard drive

    Both questions are probably easy but I've searched and can't find the answers.
    1. When I open Disk Utility there are two icons for each hard drive, one with the brand name (LaCie) and the other with the size and other info for the drive. Which do I use to format or run the disk permissions repair tool?
    2. The new hard drive is formatted MS DOS which I understand will work but I think I need to change it to an HFS+ format, the options are:
    Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    Mac OS Extended
    Mac OS Extended (Case Sensitive & Journaled
    Mac OS Extended (Case Sensitive)
    I have no idea what the difference in these are. I don't plan to partition the drive as it's just a mini-drive to put my iTunes and iPhoto Libraries on.

    1. If you don't plan on partitioning the drive, either can be used. To partition the drive, you need to select the drive itself instead of the disk.
    2. The journaling option will keep a log of changes made to the disk; this may make it easier to recover data from the drive if you run into problems with it later. This option can be changed without erasing the drive again. The case sensitive option preserves the case of letters in filenames; for example, A1 and a1 are identical when the case sensitive option is off, but not when it is on. Changing the case sensitive option requires erasing the disk.

  • Question about using HFS+ & FAT partitioned hard drive with Windows

    Theoretically, if I have a [mobile] hard drive with one partition being "HFS+" and the other partition "FAT," What would happen if I used it on a PC? Would it only mount the "FAT" partition or both the "FAT" Partition and the "HFS+" Partition?

    Unfortunately, you cannot have drive partitioned partly as Mac OS Extended and FAT32 that can be used on both a PC and a Mac. To use the drive on both you need to format the entire drive FAT32 as a single partition. Alternatively, you can format the drive Mac OS Extended and partition the drive, but to use the drive on a Windows PC you would need Windows software for reading and writing Mac disks, such as MediaFour's MacDrive.
    That said there is a technique for doing what you want, and it's described here.

  • Questioning about Partitioning a new Internal Hard Drive

    I just bought a new Internal Hard Drive, Western Digital Caviar, 500 GB. I am trying to Partition the Drive but, there is a pull down menu which I am not sure what to select.
    On "Volume Scheme, I selected 1 Partition from the menu, BUT, what do I select on "Format"?
    It gives me these options:
    1. Mac OS Extended (journaled)
    2. Mac OS Extended
    3. Mac OS Extended (case sensitive, Journaled)
    4. Mac OS Extended (case sensitive)
    5. Mac OS Extended
    Free-Space
    I am not sure what to choose here, IF I have to chose anything. All I need is another HD where I will have music samples on it.
    Any help would be appreciate it.

  • Time Machine & external hard drives not used daily

    I have a question about Time Machine and external hard drives that I used for storing digital files. I do not need to turn on these drives every day. Or even every week. Is Time Machine going to "forget" them (delete their files from backups) if I don't turn them on regularly? What do I do to make sure they are safely backed up and that they stay backed up even if they aren't turned on every day?

    As I said, then, "Time Machine will simply pick up wherever it left off." Just be sure to properly eject the drive before disconnecting or shutting off.

    For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utility is: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior for defragmentation of older drives, disk repair, disk scans, formatting, partitioning, disk copy, and benchmarking. 
    Four outstanding sources of information on Mac maintenance are:
    1. OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney.
    2. Mac maintenance Quick Assist
    3. Maintaining Mac OS X
    4. Mac Maintenance Guide
    Periodic Maintenance
    OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) See Mac OS X- About background maintenance tasks. If you are running Leopard or later these tasks are run automatically, so there is no need to use any third-party software to force running these tasks.
    If you are using a pre-Leopard version of OS X, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced after Tiger.  (These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion and should not be installed.)
    Defragmentation
    OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive except when trying to install Boot Camp on a fragmented drive. But you don't need to buy third-party software. All you need is a spare external hard drive and Carbon Copy Cloner.
    Cheap and Easy Defragmentation
    You will have to backup your OS X partition to an external drive, boot from the external drive, use Disk Utility to repartition and reformat your hard drive back to a single volume, then restore your backup to the internal hard drive. You will use Carbon Copy Cloner to create the backup and to restore it.
      1. Get an empty external hard drive and clone your internal drive to the
           external one.
      2. Boot from the external hard drive.
      3. Erase the internal hard drive.
      4. Restore the external clone to the internal hard drive.
    Clone the internal drive to the external drive
      1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
      2. Select the Source volume from the left side dropdown menu.
      3. Select the Destination volume from the left side dropdown menu.
      4. Be sure the Block Copy button is not depressed or is ghosted.
      5. Click on the Clone button.
    Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive and click on the upward pointing arrow button.
    After startup do the following:
    Erase internal hard drive
      1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
      2. After DU loads select your internal hard drive (this is the entry with the
           mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the
           drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is
           failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be
           reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the
           DU main window.
      3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the
           drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended
           (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to
           GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait
           until the process has completed.
    Restore the clone to the internal hard drive
      1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
      2. Select the Source volume from the left side dropdown menu.
      3. Select the Destination volume from the left side dropdown menu.
      4. Be sure the Block Copy button is not selected or is ghosted.
      5. Click on the Clone button.
    Destination means the internal hard drive. Source means the external startup drive.
    Note that the Source and Destination drives are swapped for this last procedure.
    Malware Protection
    As for malware protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. Starting with Lion, Apple has included built-in malware protection that is automatically updated as necessary. To assure proper protection, update your system software when Apple releases new OS X updates for your computer.

    For general anti-virus protection I recommend only using ClamXav, but it is not necessary if you are keeping your computer's operating system software up to date. You should avoid any other third-party software advertised as providing anti-malware/virus protection. They are not required and could cause the performance of your computer to drop.
    Cache Clearing
    I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, Mountain Lion Cache Cleaner 7.0.9, Maintenance 1.6.8, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache files can cause slowness, kernel panics, and other issues. Although this is not a frequent nor a recurring problem, when it does happen there are tools such as those above to fix the problem.
    If you are using Snow Leopard or earlier, then for emergency cleaning install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. (AppleJack works with Snow Leopard or earlier.)
    Installing System Updates or Upgrades
    Repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand.
    Update your backups in case an update goes bad.
    Backup and Restore
    Having a backup and restore strategy is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your computer. Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. You can never have too many backups. Don't rely on just one. Make several using different backup utilities. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
         1. Carbon Copy Cloner
         2. Get Backup
         3. Deja Vu
         4. SuperDuper!
         5. Synk Pro
         6. Tri-Backup
    Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance and backup and restore.
    Always have a current backup before performing any system updates or upgrades.
    Final Suggestions
    Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity or 20 GBs, whichever is greater, as free space. Avoid installing utilities that rely on Haxies, SIMBL, or that alter the OS appearance, add features you will rarely if ever need, etc. The more extras you install the greater the probability of having problems. If you install software be sure you know how to uninstall it. Avoid installing multiple new software at the same time. Install one at a time and use it for a while to be sure it's compatible.

    Most if not all maintenance is for troubleshooting problems. If your computer is running OK, then there isn't really a thing you need to do except repair the hard drive and permissions before installing any new system updates.

  • Apple TV External Hard Drive (again)

    I realize that there have been a TON of questions about hooking up an external hard drive to an Apple TV. Much of what I've read says that it can't be done without unsupported 3rd party software. I've also read that you need to have iTunes running on a computer in order to "feed" the Apple TV.
    The reason that I would like to use an external drive with my Apple TV is because I do not want to have to have a worksation running whenever I want to watch television. I'm wondering if the following might be possible:
    Copy all of my iTunes, photos, movies, etc. to a 2Tb external hard drive.
    Network the 2Tb drive through my AirPort Extreme.
    Connect my iPhone to my home wifi network and tell my iTunes on my phone to grab songs from my networked drive. (Can this be done? Everything hinges on this.)
    Then stream my stuff to my Apple TV from my phone.
    Anyone know if this can be done?

  • External Hard Drive and Time Machine questions

    Hello, I am new here to the forums and I have looked all over for the answers to two questions that I have regarding external hard drives and the time machine feature.
    For some background, I recently had a scare (water spill but luckily I had a keyboard cover on and the entire spill landed on the cover) with my Mid-2012 13" Macbook Pro (2.5Ghz) and due to almost losing all my data I've decided to invest in an external hard drive. However, rather than just purchasing a 500GB HDD to use as an external hard drive, I decided to kill two birds with one stone and upgrade my Macbook Pro as well by investing in the 480GB OCW Mercury Extreme Pro SSD. I'll be using the SSD as my internal drive so the original hard drive that came with my Macbook will serve as my backup external drive. Lastly, I plan to use the external drive solely for the purpose of backing up my MacBook in case something ever happens to my Macbook.

    My two questions are:
    1) When following the guide, it never mentions anything about the Partition Map Scheme. After being alerted to this and doing some additional research, is it better to go with the GUID Partition Table rather than the Master Boot Record?
    2) After I have cloned everything onto my new SSD and replaced the HDD in my MacBook with it, should I erase everything on my HDD before setting it up with time machine?  I was thinking about keeping the original data on the original hard drive (which would now be my external drive) just in case something goes wrong with time machine but I have read that people recommend solely dedicating the entire external hard drive for time machine backups.

    Format the new SSD in Disk Utility to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and that will solve question No. 1.
    After formatting, clone the new SSD using Disk Utility>Restore or Carbon Copy Cloner (down load from the Internet).  Test the new SSD and if it performs as expected, do the physical swap.
    Question No. 2.  Erase the Time Machine HDD using Disk Utility and then install Time Machine.  See this excellent website regarding Time Machine.

    If you want an external boot HHD, get another one and use Carbon Copy Cloner.  This will give you redundancy in backups as well which is a good strategy.  CCC also can update the contents in an incremental manner similar to Time Machine.

  • External Hard Drive Question...

    I am looking to purchase an external hard drive to use with my Macbook and my PS3 in order to store my music and movies and share my media between the two. I am also purchasing a larger internal hard drive for my PS3 and it is the exact same 160GB SATA 5400rpm HDD that is in my Macbook so I am assuming since the internal hard drives for the two are compatible that an external hard drive that is compatible with my Macbook will also work with my PS3.
    My question is what type of external hard drive will work with my Macbook? I was looking at a Hitachi 500GB SATA 7200rpm external hard drive but when reading a customer review it read something about not being compatible with a particular PC because it is 3.0GBs and the PC would only recognize an externall hard drive that is 1.5GBs.
    I am unsure what the GBs feature is or what it means and which is compatible with the Macbook. Does anyone have any insight on this or even better does anyone have an external hard drive that is around 500GB that they know works with the Macbook?

    I am not sure I understand what you are asking. If you want to use a HD as an external drive, you have to buy an enclosure as the enclosure has the chipsets to convert the HD connections to USB or FireWire.
    You need it.
    I would suggest that you get an enclosure that uses both USB and FW as your PS3 has USB and your MB has both USB and FW. FW is faster so that would be nice to use on your MB.

  • What external Hard drive can I get to use w/ my iMac and Macbook pro w/ Lion software? I have never used one. I need to back up my photos, iTunes, documenta, etc., Im a nursing student and very worried about losing my stuff. Any suggestions?

    I have had my macbook pro and desktop since 2008 now.  I have never had time to just sit down and learn about time machine and external hard drives.  I am in nursing school and barely have time to breathe, so when I try to read the threads, all the tech terms run together.  I have been referred to LaCIe, but I read some things saying problems with Lion (which I am highly disapointed in so far-but like I said, I have not had a lot of time to sit down and try to figure out out the kinks), Is there a good external harddrive anyone reccommends that will be easy/simple (not because I am lazy- I literally have no time w/ all my school work to figure out something complicated) , and go with my desk top and lap top?
    My laptop started messing up in class the other day, and it has a lot of memory left, so I don't understand.  It kept freezing up like a PC.  Ever since I downloaded Lion, it seems my computers have gotten slower. ;(    I have MacKeeper downloaded on both of them. I cleaned stuff off, it seems to be working better right now. But I am still soooo scared that something will happen and I will lose all of my info.
    I would be grateful of any advice/suggestions that anyone can give me.

  • Recovering files external hard drive

    Wasn't sure where to post this.  I haven't been on here for awhile, and I'm not used to the "new" structure.
    My 1TB LaCie external hard drive - which had my Time Machine backups on it (multiple ones unfortunately) no longer mounts.  I downloaded some file recovery software which can manage to find files, but not any file sorting information or names. 
    The first time I ran the software (it runs through Terminal), I let it go about 5.5 hours, and it had recovered approximately 1,100 folders worth of files, each folder holding 500 files (all named generically), and estimated that it had 66+ hours left to go.  Most of the files (around 30,000) were txt files which were useless garbage.  There were also many of the files I wanted (old photos & files from college), however, there is no chance I will ever have time to go through all the files it had at that point, let alone another 66+ hours worth.
    I started recovery over, this time setting limitations on file types (no more txt files), as well as other files I know I don't need.  Once again after the same amount of time, I'm in a similar situation.  Less files, but lots of random pngs and crap from websites I don't even remember. 
    As far as I can tell, a LOT of these files have many many versions.  I'm going to assume maybe from the multiple Time Machines?  There are photos from when I went to college that were classmates pictures, that I don't remember ever having saved to my computer.  There's what I can only imagine are cut up mangled files from the inner workings of Adobe CS3, and tons of crap from what I imagine must be old internet caching.
    Anyway, I'm not sure what my question is, but I'm mostly wondering if anyone else has had a hard drive with their "Time Machine" backups on it fail.  And if so, any advice for sorting out the mess of many duplicated files?  Perhaps I would be better served to use different software...but this was free, and I already spent $92 on a new external hard drive to recover files to.  However, if someone knows of a decent recovery program that might save me a bit of time, I suppose it would be worth it.  It just seems most of them have no guarantees, and I don't want to shell out $100, just to be sitting in the same puddle of files.

    If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
    So, I guess you're saying that any of those you mention are better than Disc Warrior for my problem. Is that right?
    The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
    Okay, I have now disconnected the external hard drive. I hadn't realized that there was the possibility of overwriting files on the EXTERNAL hard drive.

    Okay, I'll do that, but what about just repairing the external hard drive? Isn't that possible? I mean, couldn't it be something like a loose connection? However, I have certainly noticed that hard drive repair is not mentioned nearly as much as data recovery. There must be a reason for that.
