Questions After Calibration

I've finally got my LCD callibrated and tried the same color test I used before. I set "PS manages colors" and used the suggested HP Pro+Photo ( tri-color+ Photo) and it came out  a little better, but again, too dark.
Another trial was "No color management", and it was the same as the other one, just a tad brighter.  So, in this setting is the monitor  with its new profile supposed to be the control?
  The Document profile lists : sRGB IEC61966-2.1.  How do I get it to register the monitor profile that is new?
Sorry it took so long to get this far---had trouble avoiding Trojans and AdWare with other downloads.......thanks for the insights.....mm

Here is an oversimplification to try to help you understand it all:
A document carries a profile that describes its colors.
A monitor is calibrated to carry a profile that describes its colors.
A printer carries a profile that describes its colors.
These are all separate from one another.
When all these things and Photoshop are set up properly, Photoshop converts the colors from any document so that what you see on the monitor closely matches what you get on the printer.
"Set up properly" is not always an easy thing to get done, and it's nearly impossible to get right without achieving a basic understanding of the above.

  • Bridge color & Photoshop color is wrong after calibration

    Hi guys...
    I just can't figure this out...
    Here is what happen...
    I am using iMac and CS3. I have been using Eye1Display2  to calibrate the iMac.
    I have been doing that for a few years and there is no problem at all until about recently (2 weeks now). After I have calibrated the iMac, the color in Bridge and Photoshop is very wrong... all looks green after calibration (only on Adobe software and everything else looks ok). I try re-calibrate again for 5 times and restart the mac before I redo it and the result still the same.
    So any idea?
    Bad profile? spoilt calibrator?
    Regards,
    Hart

    * At the time this release note was written, the issue was not fully understood. As it happens, the issue with version 4 profiles was caused by a bug in ColorSync in the initial release of Snow Leopard. Apple responded quickly to the issue which was addressed in the OSX 10.6.2 update. i1Match does indeed build good version 4 ICC profiles on OSX 10.6.2 and 10.6.3, with preferences set to LUT (large) or matrix (small).
    The issue was not an X Rite issue.  If the system was making good profiles before and then stopped, it could be a series of bad profiles or something as simple as a bad USB cable.The sensor could be toast in the puck. At any rate, OP should be able to find an old profile and make it current. That might tell them whether or not it's a hardware issue or a software glitch. I have the i1 pro, which has a diagnostic program. i1 display does too?
    Or could it be something as simple as VIEW has switched Softproof?  What were you doing in Bridge or PS that you might have changed a setting?

  • Green shadows when scrolling text after calibration

    Hello, I'm having strange screen behavior after calibrating it (I'm using Spyder 3 hardware with both its own software and ColorEyes DisplayPro).
    What happens is that when the screen is correctly calibrated I get annoying green shadows when I'm scrolling text. This actually happens whenever there's a "moving-high contrast" situation (for example, if i'm opening a folder and screen pixels change luminance quickly) and of course in a multitude of different applications.
    I also uploaded a video to youtube to show the situation.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaNF4i0djFM&feature=youtu.be
    As you may notice, when I choose the standard color profile (uncalibrated) the behavior disappears (0:32 in the video). When I revert to the calibrated profile it comes back.
    I think something might be wrong with my screen (which, by the way, is out of its applecare warranty since two weeks ago...).

    Does this still happen if you run Firefox in Safe Mode?
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
    *Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • Colors off after calibration

    I have calibrated my monitor.
    I have checked my color profile was saved to the correct location:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color
    I have checked the default profile was set to this profile in:
    Control Panel>Display>Setings>Advanced>Color Management
    Colors were OK just after calibration.
    When I powered on my PC the next day, all applications displayed colors OK (MS Office, pdf documents, Windows Picture viewer, etc.) EXCEPT Bridge, ACR, and Photoshop.
    When I browse a folder in Bridge the thumbnails colors are OK (after purging the cache for this folder), but when I click a thumbnail the preview colors go off, and the next two adjacent thumbnails colors go off as well. If I open in PS colors are off as well.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks for your time & help,
    Al
    System: W XP SP2, CS3 Ext, ColorEdge CE210W, X-Rite DTP94B.

    From your description of the two adjacent thumbnails changing colour it sounds like you have 'Convert To High Quality When Previewed' selected in Bridge Preferences>Thumbnails. The change of colour is due to Bridge generating the higher quality colour-managed thumbnails, first the one you selected and then the files immediately before and after, i.e., three thumbnails. These thumbnails are colour managed like Photoshop and so should be more accurate than the embedded ones created by your camera.
    If you select 'Quick Thumbnails' Bridge will use the embedded (camera) thumbnails instead. Alternatively, selecting 'High Quality Thumbnails' will cause Bridge to create the thumbnails all at once when the folder is initially opened, and if there are many image files this may take some time - you can watch the HQ thumbnails being generated (the colour changing) as Bridge goes through the folder.
    All the other applications you mentioned don't have colour management so the MS Office, some third-party pdf viewers (Adobe Reader however does) Windows Picture Viewer, etc., are actually showing incorrect colours, and Photoshop, Brdge and ACR showing them accurately, assuming you have the colour management settings set correctly.
    It's probably an good idea to print some images off and see which thumbnails are more like the printed output.
    Hope this helps, Ian

  • Appearance of color in Photoshop after calibration, and outside of Photoshop

    I bought an expensive monitor some time ago which claims to produce the color gamut of Adobe RGB, the NEC PA271W. I also bought an X-rite i1 Display Pro colorimeter, with software, to calibrate my monitor.
    After calibration, the images appear right when displayed in Photoshop, and such images print okay on my professional printer with professional profiles, but such images don't appear okay outside of Photoshop, when displayed on my calibrated monitor. They appear far too saturated and contrasty.
    When I check what profile is listed under the Color Management tab of my monitor, the default profile is the same as that listed among all the other profiles under Windows/system32/spool/drivers/color.
    What's going on, I wonder. Is my video card not compatible with the X-rite calibration process? The video card is the AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Vincent RJ wrote:
    I think we're either talking at cross purposes, or you are misinterpreting my words. I've always understood that the purpose of calibration is to standardise the appearance of the image on all monitors that are correctly calibrated.
    You are indeed MASSIVELY WRONG there.  Trust me, you're not even close to beginning to understand color management. What you are describing is a simplistic, deficient personal idea of Color Management, not "calibration".
    STEP ONE in Color Management:
    Calibrating and profiling are only a start of the whole Color Management process.  Calibrating and profiling your monitor does nothing, absolutely nothing for the appearance of any image on other monitors.  Trust me:  ZILCH !
    When you leave out the term "profiling" and refer to calibration alone you are talking sheer nonsense.  Get yourself into the habit of thinking of both terms together, though they are part of the one starting point in process.
    STEP TWO:
    Set your saved monitor profile after calibration as your Monitor Profile File only.  Never as your Working Space, never as something you ever embed in a file, never as a print or target profile.
    Once you have set this profile as your Monitor Profile.  You NEVER think of it again, and never mention it again—unless eventually, and for whatever reason, your monitor profile file gets corrupted, damaged or disappears by magic.
    Note that your monitor profile is a strictly device-dependent profile, it applies to nothing else in the entire world, only to your video card and your particular monitor unit.  Not even to an identical model and manufacturing batch.  Each individual monitor has its own performance characteristics (industrial tolerances of components or manufacture and all that, as well as aging of same).
    STEP THREE:
    This entails choosing your WORKING COLOR SPACE.  This will always be a device-independent (repeat: device-independent) standard workspace such as ProPhoto RGB, Adobe RGB, sRGB, etc., in descending degree of gamut width.
    STEP FOUR:
    You make absolutely sure to embed the device-independent Color Profile of your Working Color Space in your document (image file), this is called tagging your file.  This is of such enormous importance that I always say:  "If a moron hands you an untagged file, you're going to have to guess in which color space it was created.  Once you make your best educated guess, remember to go beat that moron who gave you an untagged file mercilessly with a baseball bat or simlar, heavy object!"
    This is just my way of stressing how wrong it is not to embed the color space profile in your finished file. The only worse offense would be to tag it with the wrong profile.  Tagging a file with your monitor profile should be punished by quartering or by burning at the stake.
    Again, just strong imagery to reinforce the concept.
    STEP FIVE:
    This will be using a device-dependent Printing Profile, also called a Target Profile, in the printing dialog of the Photoshop application or the RIP used by a commercial printing outfit.  This will be a device dependent profile prepared exclusively and specifically for your particular combination of ink, paper and printer.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Vincent RJ wrote:
    …I'm not referring to any conversion of numbers or RGB values…
    But of course you are Vincent RJ, you are!!!  Most definitely you are!  Why can't you grasp that basic concept? ?? !!
    With a calibrated and profiled monitor and a properly tagged image file (with the color profile of your working color space properly embedded) Photoshop will use your Monitor Profile that you set in the application as such to CONVERT and CHANGE THE NUMBERS (VALUES) of the RGB colors in your finished image BEFORE sending them to your monitor.  Every single time.  Think of that process as making up for the deficiencies of your monitor and video card combination.
    When other people look at your image, if they're using a color managed application, said application will use whatever they have set as their Monitor Profile in their setup to CHANGE THE NUMBERS of the colors in your finished image BEFORE sending them to THEIR monitors.
    If their monitors are uncalibrated and unprofiled, you don't have a prayer of a chance to control even remotely how your image will look on their screens.  That's 96% of web users, by the way. If their monitors are calibrated and profiled, the image on the screen will be reasonably close to what you see, but the gamut of their monitors (vs. your wide-gamut NEC) will necessarily change the RGB numbers and colors from what your setup does, and the variance will be greater.
    Get rid forever of your silly concept of "standardisation" or standardization, whichever way we want to spell it.  That is simply a pipe dream of yours.  If you have a big stick handy, beat up the moron who got you to believe that.  Use twice the numbers of strikes if that person is a teacher.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Lastly, I'm getting an uneasy feeling because you haven't mentioned printing at all.
    You should be aware that Color Management is defined in terms of the art and science of controlling colors from the digital image to print.  There are different variants of the definition, but they all end with the word PRINT.
    What I'm trying to say is that a person who works with images only to be observed and shown on screens does not need to bother with Color Management at all, because the minute percentage of monitor viewers I mentioned above.  Such a person can just set everything to sRGB (monitor, color space, tags, printer, etc), the lowest common denominator of profiles, and forget about anything else.
    I would hope I got through to you, but I'm not holding my breath.
    I wish you luck in your endeavo(u)rs.

  • "Save For Web" Problems After Calibrating Display

    hi,
    before i further elaborate on my problem, let me try to sum it up for easier understanding:
    monitor using sRGB profile, photoshop everything on sRGB -> all good
    monitor using sRGB profile, photoshop everything on sRGB, after file is saved switch to calibrated profile on monitor -> all good
    monitor using calibrated profile, photoshop everything on sRGB -> color shifts in image, hex color codes do not match
    i recently got rid of my external monitor (moving around a lot) which i had set to sRGB. colors were very close to what it would have been calibrated, which is why i never bothered to change color profiles. now that i am using only a notebook (mbp), however, it quickly became apparent that the sRGB color profile made look everything quite blue-ish. after calibrating the display, all was well, however...
    ... until i started working in photoshop. there are color shifts apparent and the hex color codes do not match up; i have never had this problem before.
    is there any setting in photoshop i might have overseen? as described above, it's not a problem as long as everything is set to sRGB and i use the calibrated profile afterwards; it only occurs when working with it.
    thanks in advanc

    Gator soup, I'm not sure what you're asking for...
    All the images are published with the profiles listed (and the one is untagged, meaning it has no profile).
    If the leaves in the tagged images look like one another then that means the browser is interpreting image color profiles.
    The red box at the top of each image uses the hex code exactly as listed to define the color in that space, which of course is interpreted differently because each different image is in a different color space.
    Assuming your browser IS in fact interpreting the image color profiles, then these things are interesting:
    1.  Whether the leaves in the untagged image match any / all of the other images.  If they do match, say, the sRGB tagged image this implies the browser is interpreting the color values as though an untagged image is in the sRGB color space.
    2.  What red blocks at the tops of which images exactly match the surrounding HTML background of the same code (which is what interests the Macchiato here in this thread).  If, for example, the red block at the top of the sRGB image matches the background, then the browser is color-managing each to the same goal.
    On my system...
    Firefox 10.0, when set to color management mode "1", shows the following:
    A.  All the leaves match in color in all 4 images, and the colors are accurate, because Firefox (set this way) outputs everything in the monitor's color space.  Firefox assumes untagged images are in the sRGB color space.
    B.  The red blocks atop both the untagged image and the sRGB-tagged image match the background red color, because it assumes untagged images and HTML hex codes are in the sRGB color space.   The red blocks atop the Adobe RGB and ProPhoto RGB tagged images do NOT match the background, as expected, because they're expressed in something other than the sRGB color space.
    Internet Explorer 9, which always assumes the monitor is sRGB, displays the following:
    A,.  All the leaves match in color in all 4 images, but the colors may not be accurate (depending on how different actual monitor performance is from sRGB) because IE outputs everything in the sRGB color space.
    B.  The red blocks atop both the untagged image and the sRGB-tagged image match the background red color, because untagged images and HTML hex codes are all assumed to be in the sRGB color space.  The red blocks atop the Adobe RGB and ProPhoto RGB tagged images do NOT match the background, as expected, because they're expressed in something other than the sRGB color space.
    Safari shows the following:
    A.  All the leaves match in color in the 3 tagged images, but do not match the untagged image, since Safari passes the untagged image through to the monitor with no color management.
    B.  The red block atop the untagged image matches the background, but none of the other three do, because Safari passes the HTML colors through to the display without any color management.  Whether it's better to put untagged imagery out to the monitor without transformation is a judgment call.  It may be literally the right thing to do, but Firefox's strategy may be better.
    At first blush Firefox seems to have it closest to right in the general case, but it has its problems as well.  For example, it ONLY uses the color profile of the primary monitor, no matter what monitor it's opened on if you have a multiple monitor system.   In my mind this makes it lose its edge over Internet Explorer because it's sometimes right and sometimes wrong, where IE's consistent transform to sRGB on any monitor is expected.
    Conclusion:
    ONLY IF one configures ALL of one's monitors to produce their output in the actual sRGB color space and associates the sRGB profile with each of them, do all browsers do a proper job of color-management.

    I have figured out already. Firstly please try:
    1) Installing iBooks on your iPhone via iTunes on PC/MAC
    2) Adjust the time of your iPhone to 6 months ahead (e.g. 2013 May)
    3) Close all apps currently running, clear Safari cache and history, sign out of Apple ID (Settings>iTunes & App Stores), reboot your device
    4) Open iBooks on your iPhone, download any 1 book
    5) System should prompt you to enter 3 security questions
    6) Enter your answer and click "Done" at bottom right part of your input keyboard (Do not press upper right button)
    7) Done!
    I cannot imagine the system has gone so stupid. Apple, please retify the problem ASAP.

  • Image size after calibration and IMAQ Learn Calibration Template VI in Vision 2012

    Hi there
    I'm trying to setup a calibration for our fluoroscope camera. I got some pictures of a grid and try to implement a distortion model now.
    It works more or less fine. But there are still some problems and questions
    1. All my Images are 1000x1000 pixel. After correcting them with the calibration they change their size depending on the Method(937x928 at the moment).
    Thereby I lose some information, because some details at the border are cut off. Additionally I would have to increase the size of every image manually for the further processes. Does anyone know how i can implement that the corrected images are still 1000x1000 in size?
    2. At the moment I'm using the "IMAQ Learn Calibration Template VI" which I found in an older example. In vision 2012 this vi doesn't exist anymore? Why is this, and how could I implement it now, with using current vi's?
    Tried it with the "IMAQ Learn Camera Model" combined with the "IMAQ Calibration Target to Points - Circular Dots", a tresholding a
    nd "IMAQ Correction Learn Setup". But the result is much worse this way.
    Thanks for your help in advance.
    Stefan

    Thank you for your answer.
    I tried it with changing the border size(tried different values), but the results are still the same (still 937x928). Do I have to set the image size anywhere?
    What would be the best way to resize the image? Should I just copy it on a black 1000x1000 square?
    And do you have any suggestions how I can build the "IMAQ Learn Calibration Template" with 2012 vi's? I tried it with the code of my first post, but the results are totally different to this: Why this block doesn't exist anymore? Seems to be much easier for me

  • Questions around calibration for USB-6259

    Hi,
    I
    would like to do current measurements  with the NI USB-6289 and NI USB-6259. I have several different boards to measure with low resistance resistors on them.
    In my
    understanding there are three calibration processes:
    1) One done
    by NI every two year
    2) The automated
    self calibration process done in the measurement and automation explorer.
    3) And the
    setup calibration done in the DAQ assistant where you must specify the
    range used and calibrate the setup at several operating points.
    Questions:
    Can we
    record the current calibration 3) into a file and reload it afterward by selecting the file with labview? (The
    goal is to have one calibration file per device I want to measure)
    Do we/can we
    calibrate 3) for every range?
    I am
    not clear how to link the product specification accuracy with the DAQ
    assistant calibration process: For instance what is the current drain
    accuracy when using the 0.1V -01.V range and using a 1% 0.1ohm resistor
    before and after DAQ assistant calibration? (same question for both NI USB-6289 and NI USB-6259).
    Thanks in advance for your help

    For optimum calibration, does it matter if I use the Macbook while recharging or should it remain off? Should it take over four hours to charge up again?
    Yes, it matters I would let it charge completely until the light changes to green.
    As for the length for it to charge, 4 hours is about right, could be a little longer with a complete drain. Check out [apples battery page|http://www.apple.com/batteries> for more info.
