Questions before i buy the E6

Hi there!
I am looking for a QWERTY phone to replace my old Nokia E5-00. i suppose the natural successor to the phone is the E6 but i have some reservations on the phone and issues i would like to ask/discuss here:
1. Notification Light
I have heard that when it lights it is almost impossible and very difficult to see as it is apparently a design flaw. is Nokia aware of this or has it done something about it?
2. Email & SNS Notifications
Again based on what i read there is no "central"  or unified source of email & SNS notifications and updates. to check your eamil you have to go to a separate app. to check your facebook or Twitter feeds you have to do the same thing. is this true?
3.  Camera
Why only fixed focus? and why no buolt-in image stabilisation or auto-sharpness? is there an update available to actually make the camera as auto-focus? or to make pictures actually clearer or sharper?
4. Battery Life
I had the E5 for more than a year and it has so far the most amazing battery life of ANY phone i had.  i heard the E6's battery life sucks and isn't as good as expected. is Nokia aware of this? i thought you guys make phones that have an excellent battery life?
I think so far this are the worse culprits even apparently after the Symbian Belle update.
This has started to put me off.
can someone convince me that 1. Nokia is aware of these problems and 2. that an update is avaialble or is being developed to counteract these problems and 3. that i should buy this phone (rather than a Blackberry phone)
Thanks.

There is no problem re-assigning hardware buttons. I have actually sms insted of email just as you want.
I my opinion Belle is by far superior to Anna regarding speed and stability, especially the email client and multitasking is almost perfect now.
Furthermore, connecticity over 3G and WLAN is excellent and audio sound also.
Handling voice calls is handled with brilliance..In short, indeed Nokia E6 is a very compentent business phone cause it is relieable and fast enough. Never restarts and no more full memory ever...Symbian has matured finally with Belle at least for E6. Nokia 701 is even better but for less buck...
Mentioniing the widget (adjusting screen icons and so on) problems I have found my solution in the meanwhile when Nokia w0rking this out. I just leave some screen shots (perhaps some other people can get their own ideas how to manage their screens).
My E6 feels well structured and I am happy with it. I just wish another E6 would be released with 2,9 inch screen and and almost the same size overall. Would be nice for better web-browsing experience...
Btw, I use font magnifier on 135% font size and use Opera Mobile for better experience in webbrowsing and clarity and less impact on my eyes due to the problem of high resolution.
E6 is excellent for the right people but I prefer overall the Nokia 701 Belle actually but then there is no qwerty (but other stuff though)
Nokia 808 again (delight Belle), Nokia E7 and X7 ( again, all on Delight Belle...after some time on Nokia Lumia 925 (retired), 1020 (not that great)and Lumia 820 (Replaced my router at home, great for internet sharing).., N9 The best device ever (use it as much as Lumia 1020), Nokia 700 (Sport Phone/My Love :-) ) Nokia 701, Nokia E6 (Should have a follow-up from Nokia among with larger screen, NFC, Autofocus), Lumia 800 (Retired After 6 weeks), -Sports Tracker-Nokia Internet Radio-Handy Safe-Skype-Bambuser-Screenshot app pro-fMobi-ComingNext-Manual TaskSwitcher-jagiTimer-Easy StopWatch-Boldbeast-Equalizer-Financial Calculator-WiMP Music-YTasks-Davi-Thumbnail Folders-BizCalendar-Tiny7-Situations-nn reeder-Sport Timer-CameraLover-CameraPro-GrabRadio-LiveScore-Poddi-Gravity-SkyFilesPro

  • A few questions before I buy the 13" air.

I need to buy a laptop within the next week so I have a few questions about the air.
Does the 13inch i5 version support hyperthreading to 4 cores and turbo boost?
Is the difference in performance between the i5 and i7 worth it?
Would the air be good enough to use word/PowerPoint with a lot of tabs open in chrome with no lag? (School laptop)
Am I better off getting a 13inch BBP? Or is the air the same performance wise? (I don't need the DVD drive or ethernet)

All the intel chips have the turbo boost. No MacBook Airs have quad core chips. They are only duo core. You need the pro book for the quad cores. As a school laptop the air is great because of the SSD. It opens quickly after moving while studying here and there. You can buy a pro book then eventually put a SSD in it if that is what you are looking for. But because apple makes all of their parts and software, you do not need as big of a cpu as you would need on a PC.

  • Question before i buy the Airport Express

I have a macbook.... the mircosoft laptops have something to where you can have the internet where ever and whenever well does apple have something like that and my question about the airport express... Say i go to the airport and don't want to pay 6.99 for 24 hours of internet use and i'm only there for 2 hours... So is it possible to just plug in the airport express and bam i'll have internet?

Yes, it's usually called a wireless network card
well does apple have something like that
Yes, all Apple Macs have a built-in wireless card
and my question about the airport express... Say i go to the airport
Um... I think you're maybe getting confused over the name "AirPort". It's just a brand name: "Air" because the data travels over the air wirelessly, and "Port" because the point on a router where you connect a computer is called a "port".
It has nothing to do with the place you go to catch a flight on an airplane/aeroplane. Apple's Airport devices are just wireless home routers, just like similar devices from Netgear, D-Link et al.
and don't want to pay 6.99 for 24 hours of internet use and i'm only there for 2 hours... So is it possible to just plug in the airport express and bam i'll have internet?
Not unless you know how to hack into the existing wireless service they already provide, and that wouldn't require the wireless router, just your laptop.

  • Orlando (or central fl) iPhone users.... question before I buy:

Been with att/cingular/att for years. First cell phone (motorola) I ever got, dropped calls all of the time and signal strength was poor. 2nd phone (an LG, my current one) never drops a call, good signal strength, but only rings about 50% of the time. So, before I buy the iphone, despite glitches and volume issues, do the folks from O-Town have positivie experiences with
    - signal strength
    - confidence the phone will actually ring when receiving a call
    - any dropped calls?
    - any other "service" related issues you can think of?
...and to really narrow it down, I'm on the theme park side of town.
    Thanks

Thanks guys (and gals) for the information. I guess I'll pick one up next week.
I thought about creating this thread the other day when I pulled up next to a 20'ish guy in a gray compact who had an iphone. I wanted to flag him down and ask questions, but that would have been odd.
And yes, when I lived in celebration (phase 1), I recall reception being spotty at times. And the theme parks... good grief...it seems the most random places vary between signal no signal.
Again, thanks. I'll be in the Orlando iphone club soon enough.

  • Before I Buy the MPEG-2 Component

    Hi,
Before I buy the MPEG-2 Component for Quicktime, I want to make sure it is the right thing to do. I'd hate to make a purchase and not have it solve my problem.
    Here's my specs:
    QuickTime Player 7.5.0
    Mac OS X 10.3.9
Mac iBook 466 MHz PowerPC G3 - A Graphite Clamshell (vintage and I love it!)
    576 MB SDRAM
    Sony DCR-SX40 4GB Handycam Camcorder
It is my understanding that if I download:
    MPEG-2 Component (a purchase)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/extending/components.html
    MPEG Streamclip 1.9.2 (free)
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
Then I should be able to watch and edit videos from my new Handycam in QuickTime.
    Is this correct?
Or is there something else that I need to be doing?
    Thank you!

Here's the page you may be referring to: http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A
It lists the specs which are way beyond my computer.
    Recommended System Requirements:
    * QuickTime 7.6 or later (Pro not required)
    * PowerPC G4 (500MHz or faster) or Intel processor
    * At least 256MB of RAM
    * Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later
I read all of the reviews and there were folks who had the same specs I do that it works for, but the date of their reviews were from a few years ago, so they must have had a previous version of the Component.
It also mentions underneath the system specs about OS 9 and using OS 9's Component, though it doesn't provide a link.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get an older version of the Component? One that will match my specs.
    QuickTime Player 7.5.0
Mac iBook 466 MHz PowerPC G3 - A Graphite Clamshell (vintage and I love it!)
    576 MB SDRAM
    Mac OS X 10.3.9
    Sony DCR-SX40 4GB Handycam Camcorder
    Thanks!

  • Questions before I buy Time Capsule

    Hi All
I hope you can please help with my questions before I go and buy a time capsule. I currently have a 5 month old 2.4ghz mbp and a PC running Vista. The PC is connected via ethernet to a billion 7402GL and the mbp connects via wireless. I was going to buy an external hard drive to store data and I thought I might try the time capsule as it will be networked.
I am not 100% sure I know how time capsule works so any info would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to work out the setup in my head I have had a read through these forums but I thought I would ask specific questions in relation to my setup.
When I connect the time capsule to the billion can I still use the billion for wireless or do I have to use the time capsule? Also do I connect the TC to the Billion using ethernet or wireless? I want the mbp to access the data on the TC via wireless and the pc via ethernet. I will be getting an imac once I sell my pc so that will also need to connect to TC. I will mainly use the TC for storing data but I might start using time machine as well. Is it possible for a ps3 to access TC?
I will be attaching a printer to it so I would want to be able to print from any computer that connects to the network.
What would be the best setup? Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

If you already have a working wired/wireless network, and a spare ethernet port on your router, just connect the TC to the router with an ethernet cable. Turn off the TC's wireless, and it'll work fine.
No need to change any of your connections, you can carry on using your existing router.
Printing will work fine from any computer connected to your router (or to the TC, if you wish), but the printer driver needs to be installed on each computer, and the printer has to be one that works with the TC.
I don't think that there's a way of using the TC as a server with a PS3. The PS3 needs to see a DLNA server - I don't think that there's any way to get this running directly on a TC.
You can get a Mac to run as a DLNA server (application called "MediaLink"), and it might be possible to get the Mac to link to the TC. This way, you could access the TC from the PS3, but the Mac would have to be switched on for it to work.

  • Few Questions Before I Buy!

I want to buy this laptop in future for university but have a few questions before hand. Can you change the video card like on a regular computer or is that not on option? When I buy the laptop it comes with the current OSX, but when Leopard comes out how much will it cost to upgrade or is it free? Which Ram memory is suggested for installing after purchase? And finaly, Does BootCamp run effectively on this Machine. Thanks in Advanced.

Can you change the video card like on a regular computer or is that not on option?
    The GPU cannot be changed.
When I buy the laptop it comes with the current OSX, but when Leopard comes out how much will it cost to upgrade or is it free?
The cost to upgrade has been $US129 in the past. Whether it stays the same for Leopard is unknown although it shouldn't be too different to that.
Which Ram memory is suggested for installing after purchase?
For simplicity you might want to think about buying the RAM from Apple. However, if you want to go 3rd party there's aplenty of choices such as Crucial, Kingston, Samsung etc. Just be sure to buy RAM that has been explicitly tested in an MBP (it'll say so).
And finaly, Does BootCamp run effectively on this Machine.
    Very.

  • I have a question before I buy Final Cut Studio 2...

I plan on buying Final Cut Studio 2 tomorrow, but before I buy it, I have a question. If something were to happen to my MacBook Pro, can I just install it on another computer? It might be a stupid question but I just want to be sure before I drive to the Apple Store.
    Thanks!

As long as the computer meets the minimum specification you can install it on any computer.
Physically you can install it on thousands of computers but Apple wouldn't be too pleased !
However, you are legally allowed to have it simultaneously on one laptop and one desktop that are owned by you.
So whenever you want you can take it off one computer and put it on another.

  • Some Questions before I buy a Macbook

    Hi all,
i have some questions - maybe some of you guys may help me.
    here we go.
    1. here in germany we have three options.
    - Core Duo 1,83 GHz with combo drive, white (1079 Euro)
    - Core Duo 2GHz with DVD Burner, white (1279 Euro)
    - Core Duo 2GHz with 80GB Harddisk and DVD Burner, black (1479 Euro)
Is it worth to buy the middle option? 200 Euro extra for 0,17Ghz and a DVD Burner - sounds a bit expensive?!
    2. Is the performance difference betweeen 1,83 Ghz and 2 ghz noticeable?
    3. Why is a RAM upgrade to 1GB recommended? and is the performance difference betweeen 512MB and 1GB noticeable?
    4. Is it possible to possible to deactivate "cleartype" (the display looks a bit blurred)
    5. Is the DVD Burner ok? Does it burn any DVD? Are there some issues?
    6. Is it (easy) possible to install +512MB (or 2x 512MB) RAM and a bigger Harddisk by myself? The guys in the shop said that I will loose guarantee if I will do this by myself. Harddisk costs 80GB (+40€), 100GB (+140€), 120GB (+230€) - Sounds more than expensive!!!!
Thanks in advance for your replies,

Barely, but if you're buying a new computer, it's always a good idea to get the fastest that's currently out.... simply because it won't be outdated as fast as if you get the lowest option.
    3. Why is a RAM upgrade to 1GB recommended? and is
the performance difference betweeen 512MB and 1GB
    noticeable?
It's huge. As much as a 200%-300% difference. MacOS and Windows XP both take quite a bit of ram. I'd go all the way and get 2GB. It's only $150 or so if you buy from Newegg. Get the Gstar RAM.... I've tested it for over 3 hours with diagnostic tools and it's just as good as the crucial memory, which I tested as well. No differences (they both run at the same Mhz with the same timings.) You won't regret it.
    4. Is it possible to possible to deactivate
"cleartype" (the display looks a bit blurred)
    Yup.
    5. Is the DVD Burner ok? Does it burn any DVD? Are
    there some issues?
There are some issues with some Superdrives in some Macbooks. Mostly the scratching thing. But, of course, Apple will replace your Superdrive if it has issues, so I wouldn't worry about it.
    6. Is it (easy) possible to install +512MB (or 2x

Both the hard drive and the RAM is official 'user serviceable" parts with official Apple Manuals documenting just how to install them. Therefore upgrading them yourself does NOT void your warrenty (unless, of course, you're extremely negligent in how you install the parts, and damage your computer from not following directions.) But as long as you follow directions (and they're incredibly easy), you're good to go.
Thanks in advance for your replies,
    cheers,
    mrcheekz
Hope this helps! Honestly, if you're worried about the $200, just get the 1.83 model and spend $150 to upgrade to 2GB of RAM (by far the biggest thing in performance.) But if you can afford it, the 2.0Ghz model with both the DVD burner and 20GB extra HD space will come in handy (but the extra RAM should be your priority.)

No. The iPod is designed to be used with iTunes. You don't have to purchase the content from the iTunes Store though.

You can transfer tracks with EQ settings.

  • Questions before I buy Lumia 920

Hey everyone, I'm new here, I will introduce myself later because I am in a hurry and I need answers first
So please if you can answer my questions that will be great.
I want to buy the Lumia 920 tomorrow if possible, but I want to ask about stuff I've read about it that worries me.
First I've read that it has batterie problems and the batterie gets empty fast.
Second I've read that the phone gets too hot.
Can these things be fixed? Can they hurt the battery somehow? Because I've read that the battery can't be changed, and it's a very expensive phone here in Egypt so I don't want to have to throw it away if anything happens to the battery.
I want to ask about the music, can I download different music players/apps and use them instead of the original one of the phone? Because I want a music player that has last.fm live scrobbling. Also I want to ask if the music sounds good and pure in the phone and how loud can it get?
Now I want to ask about the cinemagraph thing, which I just discovered now, it's amazing.
Can I like make a cinemagraph from a video not taken by the camera? Say from a movie, then upload it on the Internet or on the computer as a gif picture?
About the Internet, is there 3G in it, like can I use sometimes WiFi and sometimes 3G instead? Coz there's not always WiFi everywhere and most of them are with passwords anyway.
Does it have Xbox Live Smart Glass? And does it only work with Xbox 360 or will it also work with Xbox One when it comes out?
And finally what colors are there for the Lumia 920? And does it come with earphones with it?
    Please answer ASAP if possible.
    Thank you

I may not have all the answers, coz even my experience with Lumia 920 was cut short due to, as you pointed out, heating problems.
Yes, there are battery problems, but it's all a matter of pure bad luck. You could get a perfectly fine device, with no issues, or the ones that are ailed by battery and other issues. Also, there are number of ways to improve your battery life, if the issue stems from improper usage.
Yes, there are some (read few) devices that do get got. Mine did. Never got it fixed and the repair team has decided to replace the device.
Yes, like any other audio-playing-capable phone, this one ,too, supports 3rd party music players. Quality of the music is fine for an average user. If you have a very discerning ear, you may find something to nitpick. Otherwise, for an average guy, it's fine, and loud enough.
I doubt if you can edit videos, not taken from your phone's camera, by using the cinemagraph app.  But I'm just guessing here.
Yes, there are 3G, Wi-fi and LTE for data access
Apparently, it does support the Xbox Smartglass feature. Don't know if it will be supported by the upcoming Xbox One
The phone comes in Red, Cyan (extremely rare), black (the one I own), Yellow, White. I think that's it for the colour variety.
Bottomline, Lumia 920 is a simple, elegant, and in some cases, revolutionary device with a mesmerising screen, and this is regardless of my awful experience. It's just that I had the misfortune of getting a faulty device, followed by less than professional handling by the Nokia Care people. I just hope you don't end up with a faulty one and, if you do, I hope the service is up to the mark in your area.

  • Please help! I have questions before I buy.

My mother asked me to purchase an IPad for my father for her for Christmas. I'm hoping to buy it tomorrow to get a deal but I'm wondering if he needs to be in the AT&T network to be able to purchase the IPad applications? I know that you can do it on a monthly basis, but he doesn't download music and has 2 PC's and a laptop, so this is really just a toy for him. I do want him to be able to have the apps, so I'm wondering if I should get the phone with the network capability...

Hi and welcome to the forums
No, your iPad does not have to be on the AT&T network to purchase iPad application. You can purchase them through iTunes on the computer or via wifi through the App Store on the iPad. You can buy the wifi version if your is near wifi network most of the time or doesn't need 3G internet. If your dad travels a lot and needs mobile internet then get the iPad Wifi + 3G.
If your father uses light emailing, light surfing, checking video and basic word documents and occasionally gaming, the iPad is a perfect option. If he needs heavy email, surfing the web, video editing, heavy documents writing then the iPad is not suitable. With iOS 4.2.1 recently release the iPad brings major features as such printing, folders, multitasking. Why don;t you want your dad to have apps? Apps are wonderful!
    Regards
    Andy
