Hello all,
I'm thinking of buying a Mac Pro to replace this Windows box I have, but I have a few questions before I spend the money that aren't answered in the literature for the machine:
1. A second DVD burner is a $100 option (a rip off for a burner) so I'm thinking about adding my own. From what I've read here it seems you can do it, but I'm wondering, can I use a regular DVD burner (I have a few NEC burners I ordered from Newegg laying around - IDE of course) as a second drive? Do I have to do anything weird when mounting it due to the way the case is in the Mac Pro?
2. If I add a second DVD burner as I described above and a few SATA 150 drives I have laying around, do these void the warranty or my AppleCare?
3. Are there any serious issues with the Pros, like there was with iMac G5s overheating, MacBook Pro batteries blowing up, etc.?

It is very easy to mount a second DVD and the screws
are provided. The Sony DW-D150A that is provided is

This does not impact your Apple warranty at all.

If you put four hard drives in it they may run warmer
than if only a few are installed. It only accepts
PCIe and not PCI. Memory for it can be more expensive
than other models.
That is about it.
Cool. From the way the case looked I wasn't sure mounting the drives would be as simple as in a regular PC case, and I obviously didn't want to void my AppleCare. Thanks for your help!

Yes the battery does drain fairly quickly, but it's not unreasonable. I would charge mine every night regardless so I don't see a problem with it. I would recommend turning off 3G and Wifi if you aren't using them. You can also set mobile me (or what exchange server you use) to push less frequently. Also, keep your phone locked and in standby whenever possible.
The cheapest plan is 40 for 450 minutes and then 30 for the data plan. If you want texting, that will be another $5 for 200 messages.
It's a great phone and I'm really happy with it. I switched from t-mobile to AT&T and I've had no problems with them or the phone.

either you didn't read my post, or you jumped to conclusions.
I had a skype account that was created using a microsoft account (NOT THE ACCOUNT I AM USING NOW). PURE MICROSOFT ACCOUNT NO OTHER ACCOUNT LINKING.
I had to change the primary mail of that account.
I was told "no can do" by skype support.
I found that if I went to account settings and clicked on the link on the line below the one that said "MICROSOFT etc" (labeled something along the lines of "TV or Device") I got the opportunity to set the password of the "live:username" account (WHICH YOU COINCIDENTALLY HAVE TO DO IF YOU WANT TO USE SMART TVs ETC).
Once that was done, I COULD SUCCESSFULLY DO WHAT SKYPE SUPPORT SAID WAS IMPOSSIBLE- I could change the primary mail address.
once that was done, and NOT BEFORE, I linked the account to a facebook account as well, just to be sure I have more than one way to access the skype account.
What caused you to get the impression that I was writing something else?

and I need to point out that you are incorrect. I WAS NOT OPERATING ON DIFFERENT ACCOUNTS I WAS OPERATING ON ONE SKYPE ACCOUNT, THAT WAS CREATED USING A MICROSOFT ACCOUNT just like you say you recommend. I still don't know how you can misread my initial entry like that.
If you have a better solution to my initial problem - changing the primary mail of a skype account created throuth either a microsoft account or a facebook account, Please write a sticky to explain how to do it, and please inform skype support that Yes it can be done, and this is the way it is done. So far my "lucky shot" seems to be the only way to do it.

You should be able to change your e-mail address from your provider ... then edit it to meet the Apple requirements. Unfortunately you've given us no profile details so we can't tell what device you have.

If the video is already on a DVD:
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

how can I disable the confirm question before a synchronization?
I'm synchronizing over a bluetooth connection. The user guide tells me to click on authorize but I can't find the opportunity to choose this option. Is this done on the E71 or in the Nokia PC Suite application?

do you have any idea how to sync my e71 offline with outlook emails/inbox. there's no checkbox for emails on the synchronisation set-up screen (only contacts, tasks, calendar). I've been doing this for years with my Palm Treo. I can't believe it's not a function on this high-end Nokia?

A few questions before buying a spectre x360

Hi I'm considering buying a 13" Spextre x360 once Win10 arrives in final version - but have a few questions before going ahead. Mostly looking into the 4041no (i'm from Denmark) - or similar configuration. I need a configuration with at least 500 GB of hard drive and 8 GBs of RAM. 1. Will the spectre support all the new windows 10 touchpad gestures (similar to OS X/Mac gestures)? I have read something about the touch pad on the not being a "precision touchpad" but instead being run by synoptic drivers or something. Don't know exactly what it means. I come from a Mocbook Pro - and these gestures are so good. 2. One of the things some talk about in reviews is heat - that the x360 gets very hot to hold. Even just browsing the web. And also fan noise being loud. Any experience here - is it just a few unfortunate buyers, or are any of these issues generic. 3. Browsing the web there are so many different model numbers, that i can't keep up - and some of them seem to be identical configurations. Is there any overview of what is what. For instance 4041no and 4040no seem identical - but there is a difference in price, at the stores i have seen online. Similarly there is a 4030no and a 4032no. What are all these models. different numbers for every store/country/????. Any help here.. 4. The 4041no model i'm looking into has this QHD screen. Very high resolution. How is that in everyday life for surfing the web (mostly Chrome), Photoshop, watching movies local/streaming and more. It seems that everything will be very small, or is there scaling options or other stuff that makes this high resolution usable in real life. Or maybe lower the resoltion in settings. Any experience? I will soon try to find one in a real store to try out if possible. Think i'll start with those questions :-) And maybe also some generel feedback on the spectre x360. Thanks /Jonas

I have the 4014 model (core i7, 256gb ssd, 8gb ram and FHD screen) so I can answer some but not all of your questions.
1. Touchpad is responsive and easy to use for me. Just upgraded to windows 10 and multi touch gestures are working fine. Three finger tap to open search, four finger tap to open the quick settings panel. Three finger flicks do app switching and minimising. The pad is controlled by the synaptic driver, but it has quite a few options and seems to work well for me.
2. Heat is not an issue for me. Sure, it gets warm when running intensive tasks, but as long as you are not pushing the cpu for long periods of time, it will be fine on your lap. Browsing the web, the fan will come on briefly when I load 10 or more tabs at a time, otherwise the fan will remain off.
Being an aluminium chassis, it has the ability to transfer heat out of the shell more easily than a plastic laptop, so you might notice it getting warm quicker, but it also cools down fast.
The fan is no louder than any other laptop I have used.
3. Can't help you with model numbers, sorry.
4. I'm finding that a lot of applications do not scale correctly on my FHD screen, so I can imagine that the QHD would be the same or worse. Most of the time, you can get the applications to look better by turning off display scaling in the compatibility settings. Sometimes this means that the application then looks smaller on screen, though text, images and icons are sharp, they are harder to read. The QHD would make these apps even smaller. I do not think QHD is worth it on a small screen for this reason.
In general the laptop works well. I use it in my job as a teacher, and being able to convert from laptop to tablet is a huge benefit. It is super fast to start up and easily gets me through a school day (quite often getting home with more than half a charge). I will just close the lid between uses and it sleeps, drawing very little power. It is capable of running Photoshop and office apps, while browsing the web and doing some light duty CAD modeling on the side.
One small issue that I and a few others have had is a crackling, buzzing noise due to the processor power regulation. Only audible in really quiet rooms or when putting an ear close to the device, when the computer is idling. Not an issue for everyday use, but something to be aware of if you have sensitive hearing or are annoyed by slight imperfections.

Questions before I SWITCH to Mac...

Few questions before I switch to Mac (hoepfully when Leopard comes out)....
Currently I have a Dell XPS Media Center PC and a Vista laptop.
1. TV/DVR CAPABILITIES: I love using my PC as a tv tuner & DVR. Does mac have this capability? If I run Vista on the Mac will my Media Center, TV tuner, etc... run the same?
2. PDA SYNC: Will the Mac sync calendar & contat items with my Windows based PDA?
3. WEB DEVELOPMENT: I am a ASP.NET developer. Can I do this on a mac easily? If I have to use Windows on the mac to do this, can anyone speak on the performace?
4. SHARING FILES BETWEEN OS & COMPUTERS: Can I share files with other XP or Vista pcs I have in the house? Can I share files between the Mac and Vista OS on the SAME machine?
5. DUAL MONITORS: Does the MacBook Pro or iMac support DUAL monitors?
6. CS3 QUESTIONS: I'm thinking about purchasing Photoshop CS3, Flash CS3, etc... Can I install them onto the Mac side and the Vista side of the same machine?

Why I should spend money on digital books if you can't use?

One thing about this department. Don't buy any digital books which requires to use Adobe Digital Edition. Software is not finished, doesn't support tablet. That's wrong is with Adobe reader? Why you can't integrate this into adobe reader? Why you people forcing people to use look for pirate version instead giving chance to use legal books. Just silly people working and making crappy software.
I bought books digital edition and I can't use it. Even Adobe Digital edition can't authorize my computer with adobe id or any other vendors which they are giving to chose.This last time when I spend money on books which requiring Adobe Didital edtion. Better I will download from some other sources instead buying stuff.

It sounds like you do not remember setting up security questions for your Apple ID and need them reset so you can set them up with your answers. You can use the the following article to reset them with a rescue email address, and it contains a link to contact the correct department if you do not have a rescue email address set up already.
