  • Connecting via wireless & blue square?

    hello
I'm connecting to the www via my router and when it's not possible to connect I seem to be connecting via a blue square on the toolbar ,anyway what is this and can it be switched off because I only want to connect via wireless router or hotspot
    Thanks

    Hey macbookair,
The Blue square means GPRS: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306795
Try the Wi-Fi tips listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398?viewlocale=en_US
Forgetting the network or resetting network settings will probably take care of it.
If the iPhone still cannot join the Wi-Fi network give us a little more information about the specific wireless router you are connecting to and the security being used. Also Include the number of characters in the network password.

  • Connecting to wireless laptops in classroom.

    Hi,
I am sure this is possible, but I am totally confused as to how to do it! ARD is installed on our PowerMac at school. I want to see all my pupils' ibook when they are working in order to help them etc. They are connected via wireless which of course distributes its own ip address. As we are within the same network - is it possible to see them? How? I have managed to connect to one eventually by creating a DMZ (disabling Firewall was not enough) and port forwarding to one ibook. The problem is of course I can only port forward to one computer. I have 15 ibooks!!! My classroom is served by a Belkin wireless router - would I benefit from using a Airport Base Station? Is this more ARD friendly - how would this be configured. Thanks very much in advance for your help.

You will not be able to see them as you can only forward the ports to one computer. The only thing I can think of that may work is if your admin computer is also wireless and thus on the same subnet (e.g. 192.168.1.x) then maybe they'll show up via a 'same network scan'.
If your computer is plugged in via an ethernet cord and the student's laptops are all wireless, then you aren't on the same subnet.

  • Trying to connect my wireless g router

    Hi,
I am trying to connect my wireless g router (WRT54G) to my cisco router from my company. My cisco router was configured by my company so that I can use the office phone. I need wireless access in my house (I work from home), and so I am trying to connect the WRT54G to the cisco router.
I followed the instructions on the setup CD, and it got to the point where it checks the configuration, and then it crashes, and wants to send an error report to microsoft (which I don't understand, but is another question for another time!)
I am completely at a loss here, and don't know what to do. I barely understand this whole internet/router/W.A.P./network thing as it is, and am frusterated.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Shelley

Don't use the CD. You are running behind a router already and you don't want to set up two chained routers. Instead set up the WRT as access points like this. Be sure to pick a valid and free LAN IP address in your current LAN for the WRT.
To secure the wireless you also have to do the following:
    * Change the wireless network name (SSID) from "linksys" to something unique (Wireless tab).
    * Enable wireless security. Use WPA2 Personal or WPA Personal. Use AES+TKIP for WPA2 or TKIP for WPA. Enter a strong passphrase.
    * Change the default password of the router ("admin") on the Administration tab.

  • The iTune Remote App has stopped finding my iTunes library when connected to wifi from my main router, but works fine when connected via second wifi router on the same network (different SSID)

I'm running iTunes Remote App from a couple of iPhone 5's and a first generation iPod Touch. iTunes is running on a PC - Windows 7. My home network runs two Wifi Routers, each with a different SSID. I've had no problems with the Remote app running this set up for the last 8 months but recently the App can only find my iTunes library when the iPhone/iPod is connected via one specific router, when connected to the network via the other router, no iTunes library is found. I'm also running an Apple TV and it's the same as the iTunes Library, only visible via the one SSID.
Everything else seems to work fine when connected via either router, eg Internet on the iPhones (definitely via wifi)
I've tried renewing the lease on the iPhone wifi connection, restarting everything.....several times.....
It used to work fine, this only seems to have been a problem in recent weeks
Any help or advice would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Ian

It turned out to be the firewall settings on our router. Her machine was sending traffic that our router interpreted as a DoS attack and blacklisted her Airport's MAC address. That's why it would work fine if she switched to Ethernet.

  • Cannot connect via cable on Windows XP home SP2

    Good Afternoon,
Maybe you can assist me here.
I cannot connect via cable my N91 (4 gb hdd) to Windows XP Home SP2. I can however connect via cable to my work computer which has the OS Windows XP Pro sp2.
In both cases both OS's are up to date, I have updated the phone OS to v2.10.013 RM-43. I am using the most up to date drivers that is available on nokia.com as well as the current ed of PC Suite (6.82.22.0)
The following is the steps I followed in both cases starting with XP Pro
    1. Installed Drivers
    2. Installed PC Suite
    3. When prompted by PC Suite connected Phone via cable to Computer, further install steps were required. No reboot required. PC Suite then picked up phone
    XP Home
Followed steps 1 + 2 in the same order
    3. Connected N91 to XP Home computer, after driver install activity rebooted computer as requested. Disconnected N91 On reboot to desktop, in PC Suite I clicked on Get connected. Select Cable connection when prompted attached cable to computer and then to phone, on the phone select PC Suite. .
At this point I get the hour glass and nothing happens, Next is ghosted. It has been like this for 20 mins.
I have uninstalled both the drivers and the software. For some reason the updater can connect to the phone.
Can you advise on what I can do.

    Hi
Sounds lik ethe PC is having issues seeing it. Try this
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=pcsuite&message.id=11480

  • IPhone 5s can connect to wireless WIFI router but can not access internet.

iPhone 5s can connect to wireless WIFI router but can not access internet at work. The admin says the router lets my iPhone connect to LAN, but the iPhone does not have server IP to access the internet. I entered the server IP and port number in the HTTP PROXY fields but I still can not access the web. Any ideas?
    TIA
    Rich

You IT person should be able to sort this out.  But, they seems to be too busy or disinterested to do this.  Suggest you provide the it person with an iPhone to get interested.
Any could be lots of things.
The best you can do is to get access to the admin setup for networking on a pc?  The internet settings are all the same.  Only what names the manufactures change from OS to OS. Check and compare parameters.
Phone works to internet at home, I assume?

  • Hi my wife and I have an iphone 5 each yet we cannot connect via bluetooth any solutions please

    Hi All
My wife and I cannot connect via bluetooth both phones just go in search mode but find nothing and both phones are now discoverable any help please thanks in advance

You can do it via Wi-Fi through email. Or you can set up an iPhoto library with a shared PhotoStream in order to share photos.
If you both sync your devices using iTunes to the same iTunes Library, then you can have a common library of data that each of you can sync to your devices. You can also share data through your iCloud storage account. You have 5 GBs for your Apple ID and can purchase more if needed.

For what purpose are you trying to connect them?
The only supported Bluetooth function between a Mac and iPhone is internet tethering.

  • MacBook Pro Cannot Connect to Wireless Router

I have a brand new MBP and it won't connect to any non-apple wireless routers
    - my computer is 2 days old (it's awesome and I love it accept that I can't get wireless connection at home)
    - wireless router: westell versalink model 327 W
    - PROBLEM: my mbp will detect the network just fine, but won't connect to it...just times out, it will connect to a neighbors linksys, but cannot load any internet pages, so still not helpful. When I try to connect to the wirelesss router using the network utility it asks for a WEP password, which it never did before because it's an open wireless router. (I know you should always password protect, but it's not my router...I'm just in the same house)
    - I had a powerbook G4 and ibooks that have all connected fine to the same wireless network. My dad has an HP laptop that also connects fine
    - it only connects to the apple brand airport wireless routers
    - it will connect to the wireless router if I plug in the ethernet cord
    - I have tried checking the connections, allowing all connections, repairing my disk permissions (even though my computer is only 2 days out of the box), resetting the router, opening the router so no password is needed...NOTHING WORKS!
    - I also tried another wireless router (netgear): doesn't work
I've been reading around in some forums and this seems to be an apple and maybe more specifically a macbook pro issue (just by process of elimination). One forum said that it was because of an airport update that basically "breaks" mbp's airport and makes it not accept any non airport wireless connections, apple supposedly is working on a fix but who knows
I'm feeling disappointed and very upset that this is even a problem, especially with how many people I read are dealing with the same issue wit still no solution. My mbp was far from cheap and this just shouldn't be an issue. I'm planning on contacting apple and getting to bottom of this or at least some kind of answer.

    - it will connect to the wireless router if I plug in the ethernet cord
this is because there is an actual physical connection between the router and the machine, so the router allows the connection automatically. i believe ALL wireless routers have a "Wireless Access List" in their config. the owner of the wireless router must add any machine or device seeking to gain access to the wireless router. consult your routers documentation on how to access the router from a web page and add your machine. this is usually done by adding the machine's mac address to the wireless access list. i added my 15"mbp and iphone to my netgear wireless router in about ten minutes and have no problem connecting every time.
also, when making any changes in Network Preferences, be sure to "Apply" after any change or adding any wep key. let me know if you have any questions.

  • WRT54GS cannot connect via wire...connects wirelessly

I have a WRT54GS and cannot connect laptop via wire.
I can connect wirelessly, but when I try hard wire no go.
I have attempted to update the ethernet adapter it is up to date.
    I have rebooted
I have put the mac address into my router. no go
If I connect the wire from the laptop directly to the cable modem it works.

Hooked it to another  cable right by the router WRT54GS and it connected, and it worked.
Also If I bypass the router from the non working location it works.
No error message there is however a little red X between the router and the www globe when I try and use the wizard.
No access restriction...just tried it fwiw
    Have not tried upgrading
    or
    Not tried default

  • Connecting A100-306 & Desktop via Wireless Modem/Router: access is denied

I am attempting to file/printer share between my A100-306 laptop and desktop units.
I have used the Windows Wizard to create internet connection/LAN.
This has been successful with the internet connection (via Belkin 54g Modem/Wireless Router) but my "Troarn" LAN doesn't seem to be recognised by the laptop.
When I interrogate, on the laptop, My Network places/View Workgroup Computers, the page is blank!!
But when I interrogate, on the Desktop, My Network places/View Workgroup Computers, both computers are shown. If I attempt, on the Desktop, to connect access is denied.
    Has anyone got any suggestions??

    Hi
    - Check if you have disabled the firewalls on the notebook.
    - Be sure that every computer is placed in the same workgroup.
    - Check the TCP/IP protocol settings.
If one computer has IP address 168.192.50.1 the other should has for example 168.192.50.2 and so on.
    - If you want to access any folders you should set the rights for sharing this folder.

  • Mx880 connected to LAN. Cannot access via wireless. ???

I have an end user on campus who has a Canon MX880 multi-function printer/copier/scanner, etc. I have it configured to a specific IP address, and connected to the college LAN via data cable, data drop. The drop is good, I have tested with a laptop. I manually set the IP4 settings on the MX880, and can ping the printer when connected via ethernet to LAN. As soon as I try to get on the the college wireless LAN, I can't ping it. I took another laptop, disconnected the data cable from the printer, plugged it into the laptop, and manually config'd the laptop to the same manual IP4 settings as the printer is set to. This time, from the other laptop, I can ping connected to the printer port wirelessly or when ethernet connected. So there is nothing wrong with the campus wired or wireless network. It's only when I try and ping the MX880, via the campus wireless network, that I have a problem. Again, I have the MX880 ethernet connected to a data drop. I have the LAN settings enabled, and IP4 manually set. I can ping the printer IP address when ethernet connected from somewhere else on the network, but I can't when I'm using the campus wireless network. And again, If I use two laptops, one used in place of the printer, but set to same IP settings, I have no problem pinging the IP address via LAN or campus wireless. Any ideas???

Most public networks (like the ones on a college campus) have built in firewalls that prevent communication between devices. They're designed primarily to give a device internet access but not to let 2 devices on the network talk to each other for security purposes (so the guy in the dorm next to you can't hack your computer). Trying to use the printer with a public network probably wont work.
