Questions concerning the Snap-Crackle-P

I have been contemplating purchasing a Creative X-Fi sound card.
Before I decide to make a purchase, I would like to know a few details about the Snap-Crackle-Pop (SCP) issue.
commonalities of the affects of Snap-Crackle-Pops (SCPs)
. Are the SCPs an issue on all X-Fi cards?
2. Does the SCP issue arise with the nVidia 590 chipset (AMD)?
3. Do the motherboard onboard sound drivers affect the SCPs?
<blockquote dir="ltr">a. Do the SCPs only happen with onboard audio drivers installed?
b. Do the SCPs happen without the onboard audio drivers installed?
4. The X-Fi drivers
<blockquote dir="ltr">a. Do the soundcard drivers need to be installed BEFORE the soundcard is installed?
b. Do the soundcard drivers need to be installed AFTER the soundcard is installed?
5. Has anyone had any problems with the X-Fi cards on an EPoX motherboard?...(I could give a rats ass about GAYSUS).
6. PCI bus
<blockquote dir="ltr">a. If I remember correctly, I saw something about the SCP issue possibly being a result of the PCI bus? Is this true?
b. Would overclocking the PCI bus help to eliminate this issue?
7. After reading as much as I could about the X-Fi cards (in the SCP forums) without getting a headache, I would probably say that the SCP issue is a problem regarding software and/or hardware. However, could it be something as simple as a bad ground? I didn't get to read everything about the problems people were having with their cards, but the symptoms that I have read about (Snap, Crackles, Pops, Hiss, Unexplained behavior, Surges, ect) all point to having a bad electrical ground. That may sound ignorant, but as odd as it may seem, some of the most complex problems are resolved by a simple solution.
Anyway, relevant and detailed input would be appreciated (No fanboys).

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen!
My question concerns the impossibility to open RAW-files directly from the program Adobe Bridge. At the moment when you open a RAW-file from Adobe Bridge by double-clicking, RAW-file is opened only in Photoshop. In the settings Adobe Bridge - in "open RAW-files by double-clicking in Adobe Camera Raw» box is checked. When you try any changes in the settings Adobe Bridge system displays a message:
Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.

• Disable 24-bit crystalizer... and where did the snap/crackle/pop

For the longest time, I thought the crackling and popping was because of the CMSS3D Headphone option being enabled, but just for kicks, I tried disabling the 24-bit crystalizer, and poof! Where did the snap/crackle/pop go? It seems to be gone! I can li've without the crystalizer, after all there is really no way to make something sound better than the source. This gives me hope that it is a driver issue after all. I have a Rev A fatalty.

It is still there... you cant just hear it as good anymore.. i never have crystalizer on, i still got my rice crispies. So good if you dont hear it anymore.. but i know this wont fix it for many of us. I can agree that if i have cmss3d enabled but have MacroFX and Elevation Filter off, the pops& crackles are lower in volume.

• Questions concerning the Apachectl file in Oracle HTTP Server

Three more questions concerning Apachectl file:
(1) The ORACLE_HOME in the file should be the ORACLE_HOME for HTTP SERVER, not the one for database, right?
ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/http_1
(2) The TNS_ADMIN in the file should be the TNS_ADMIN for HTTP SERVER, not the one for database, right?
TNS_ADMIN=${TNS_ADMIN="/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/http_1/network/admin"}; export TNS_ADMIN
(3) I don't have a httpd.pid file pointed by PIDFILE. Is this a problem?
PIDFILE=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/http_1/Apache/Apache/logs/httpd.pid

1) right, OHS should be installed in separate home then db
2) not right...in OHS there is no TNS entry...frankly there is no "/ADMIN" dir at all! In db ORACLE_HOEM TNS entry is irrelevant for OHS...it looks the same before and after instlation of OHS.
3) On my server "httpd.pid" is in "C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_2\Apache\Apache\logs" and content is "2272". There is reference in httpd.conf file "PidFile logs/httpd.pid". I have never touched or reconfigured it by myself, httpd.conf is customized by instalation of apex!
Hope this helps

• T430s or T431s? and a key question concerning the T431s mSATA slot

T431s or T430s?
First let me apologize for my English, sorry if reading through this cause you any headache…
I gave away my T410 (bad bad decision) the day after I got a i7 Yoga 13 with 256G SSD, and bought a M4 256G which I planned to put in the free mSATA slot, only to find out i can't live with that yoga keyboard and that huge off-center touchpad which gets in the way all the time a few days later... anyway, end up returned that yoga13 and is using my heavily abused limping T500 now with a replaced motherboard... I was looking to go back to thinkpad and buy a T430s right away but Lenovo announced T431s one day afterwards. now i dont know what to choose, although leaning towards T431s a little bit.
things i'm looking for in my next laptop: first X1C is not an option for me, I can’t accept that screen with high dot pitch.
l  weight: less than my T410, it doesnt have to be light as an Acer S7 or Samsung 9, just reasonably lighter, and as slim as possible.
l  Processing power: doesn’t really matter, anything i5 or i7, M or U… all fine to me, I can run Lightroom, DPP and video processing applications on my desktop and I don’t play games. 8G or more RAM is needed.
l  Storage: comes with 256GB SSD or user upgradeable to 256GB SSD is an absolute minimum requirement, but I really prefer any flexibility to configure a second drive, HDD or SSD, is a big plus, preferably HDD as the second drive.
l  Screen: wouldn’t mind squeezing my eyes on a FHD screen, but I can only settle on a 900p, afterall I’m looking for a thinkpad, have to live with that screen, right?
l  Tough… every one of my laptop gets dropped once or twice… many many times in the case of my old T410… so it needs to be tough…
l  Not much else…
So, T431s is lighter, slimmer, user replaceable 7mm SSD, mSATA available (a concerning question later), all good, and I like the new look. And I don’t care much about the indicators, lid lock, flipped logo or that new touchpad (I think I can manage, maybe…).
So what do I have to sacrifice if I choose T431s? removable battery, ultrabay for optical drive and HDD, full voltage cpu, and possibly a couple hundred dollars… since we don’t know for sure how much optional parts will cost in customized build, and of course the risk of buying an unproven, newly designed product. Did I miss any other key point?
If I didn’t miss many advantages that T430s have, I probably should go with T431s, it was all good until I found a video which shows how to disassembled a T431s (http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNTI5NzIxMzg4.html) and at about 4 mins in, it shows that the WWAN card is secured by a single retaining screw in the middle on the outer edge, unlike typical mSATA SSD which should be secured on the 2 corners of the board. Does this mean users can no longer install a mSATA SSD on T431s? if so, I can only have one 7mm SSD instead of having OS installed on a 256G mSATA, and have a 500G HDD to storage all the photos and videos, which I was intended to do, that maybe a deal breaker…
I don’t really understand these hardware upgrades, can some one please tell me for sure whether the mSATA slot on T431s, as shown in the video, can be used to intall a regular mSATA SSD. If I can, I’ll probably still struggle to make the decision, if it can’t be used to install SSD, T430s it is.
Any help is appreciated!
Kai
Solved!
Go to Solution.

thanks, yes, it's the new NGFF M.2, and the new form factor is a lot more complicated than the old mSATA slot, different dimensions for different storage size, and it maybe single side for WWAN, cashe drive, or double side for actual SSD perfermance...
if i'm gonna get a T431s, i'll just buy the 320G 5400RPM low end drive, make a recovery media from Win8, and reset to factory setting after intall a 512GB 840 Pro, or the much cheaper M4...

• Questions Concerning the Matrox MXO2 Mini

Based on comments on this forum and other online research, I am seriously considering purchasing a Matrox MXO2 Mini for laptops along with the PCIe host card so that I can use the Mini on both my Macbook Pro (Unibody 2.53 Core2 Duo) and my Mac Pro (8-core Harpertown) and edit the captured footage in FCP7. I have a few questions that I could not find the answer to online, and I am hoping that you might be able to help.
The Matrox Mini is supposed to up-rez SD to HD on capture. How do those of you who use the Mini feel about this conversion of SD to HD? I know you can never really exceed the quality of your original SD material, so I am wondering if there is much to be gained by taking SD material and converting it to HD?
I would like to capture some analog material that is S-VHS recorded. The Mini can apparently do this through S-video, but I don't see any S-video connectors on the back of the unit in pictures I have looked at. Is this possible and how?
Finally, are there any caveats to using the MXO2 Mini, especially with a laptop? I shall be using a firewire 800 drive to capture the material to, and my Macbook Pro does have the Express 34 card slot required by the Matrox Mini.
Thank you very much in advance for any comments on this device that you care to make and for considering my questions above.
Tom

How do those of you who use the Mini feel about this conversion of SD to HD?
It equaled what I got with the big boy the MXO2. No, you cannot get any better quality converting SD to HD...if anything it will degrade the image as you are blowing it up. But, there are times we need to, and doing it via hardware in realtime is better than most software versions. Compressor can do a slightly better job, but when you set all the settings to best and let it crank away for days.
The upscale is good....very good.
so I am wondering if there is much to be gained by taking SD material and converting it to HD?
Nope. Only do it if you need to mix it with HD footage, if the HD footage is a majority of the footage, and you need to deliver and HD show. Going SD to HD, then back to SD for like DVD or DV makes zero sense. It will make the footage look worse.
Finally, are there any caveats to using the MXO2 Mini, especially with a laptop? I shall be using a firewire 800 drive to capture the material to, and my Macbook Pro does have the Express 34 card slot required by the Matrox Mini.
Not that I can think of. I did this with DVD and betaSP footage. zero issues.

• Questions concerning the use of Adobe Interactive Forms

Hi All,
I have two questions that I would to see if I could get an answer to.
1) Has or can one use an Adobe Interactive form on a Tablet PC to allow a user to draw, say a small diagram or map, and have that image then stored in an R/3 database?
2) I may already know the answer to this, but want to verify it anyway. Can Adobe Interactive forms be used to provide data to other applications outside of SAP using NetWeavers J2EE or .Net API?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Mark

Hello!
1) As far as I know (and can see in Adobe Designer opened at my PC right now) there are no standard controls
in the library that can be used to add drawing (ink) area to the form. Maybe external are available, but unlikely.
Even more, googling shoes that Adobe itself is not eager to support ink in their Acrobat products... Pity but so.
So my answer for the first question is "NO".
2) That depends on what you mean on "providing data to other applications outside of SAP using NetWeaver J2EE and .NET".
If you are using NetWeaver J2EE than you are still using SAP.
If you want to install SAP's ADS server on J2EE server from another vendor, than it is not a good idea:
First - it should be merely legal to use SAP software like this.
Second - Adobe's standalone forms solution (Link: [Adobe LiveCycle Forms ES|http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/]) should be cheaper.
On the other hand, if you create a simple form in LifeCycle Designer not inside SAP, but launched standalone and
set this form to send data to let's say XML-service, than there is no problem to use any other server application / platform.
It's just have to be a web-service like: support HTTP-requests with XML inside.
In the last case still the question persists "why use SAP in this case?"
Just few ERP 2005 licenses will cost more, than entire Adobe product line, so maybe you have to change the platform?

• A few of questions concerning the Oracle Client

Hi
Firstly, I'd just like to say that what I know about Oracle could be written on a very small postage stamp that had somehow been torn in half and then in half again.
Apologies for the waffle...
One of my roles within our organisation, is to create and deploy application using Novell ZENWorks to our users who will shortly be moving to a purely Windows XP SP2 environment.
Q1-Is the Oracle 8 client fully supported by XP SP2?
Our organisation runs multiple Oracle DB's and up until now, separate application objects have been created for each DB with that DB's settings in it's TNSNAMES.ORA file which is pushed out along with that application object. The trouble is that some users need to access more than one DB which means that they sometimes have multiple copies of the Oracle Client installed, using different TNSNAMES.ORA files depending on what DB they want to connect to.
Q2-Can I either carry out one install of say the Oracle 9 client and have one TNSNAMES.ORA file with all the DB settings in? Or even better still, can I install the client on one of the shared volumes on the server (I realise that I'd have to copy certain files to the workstation) and then get all the workstations to run the client from there?
Q3-Our preferred method of deploying applications is to use MSI's, but for some reason Oracle only supply some kind of primative and cumbersome response file system which I've found often gives random results depending on what the weather is like. Is there a better way of getting the client onto the workstations without having to mess around editing RSP's?
Sorry for posing such potentially dumb questions
James

Q1-Is the Oracle 8 client fully supported by XP SP2?AFAIK Oracle 8 products are no longer supported. Use 9i client instead.
Anyway here is link to certification matrix: http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html
Or even better still, can I install the client on one of the shared volumes on the server...I guess this won't working. Install Client on each machine and share only tnsnames.ora, or you could resolving tnsnames from OID (LDAP) server.
Is there a better way of getting the client onto the workstations without having to mess around editing RSP's?You could make manual install and record the response file. That responsfile you could use on other machines. You don't need edit anything. Sorry, I can't see anything primitive and cumbersome on RSP. You can choose manual installation or using responsfile, there is not other option.

• Some questions concerning the digital signature on an interactive form

I've just finished an interactive Advertising Contract with 128-bit encryption that will enable recipients to submit CC info safely to our publishing firm. Even though form fields at the top allow typing the name of an authorized person, the signature line at the bottom is presenting problems because in order for anyone to sign, they need a digital signature.
(1) Is this necessary? If so, is there any way of automating it for clients so they don't have to go through the process of creating one?
(2) How do I create a digital signature for my partner and have the SUBMIT button on the form channel the returns to his email address instead of mine (which it is doing because of another interactive form I created in which I was the point person for returns)? I couldn't find anything in the "properties" of the OK button that allowed me to enter an email address.
Thank you so much for your help here. This is time-sensitive, as we need to get the package out ASAP.

1. If you require a digital signature, then setting up a digital ID is necessary in order to sign a digital signature field. So the question is really more fundamental: Do you require that people sign the form with a digital signature? If you say yes, what are the reasons?
2. If you are using the distribution process in Acrobat so thatt you can collect the form data in a responses file, you should distribute the form using the other person's machine that has Acrobat installed on it.
If you don't want to do this and only want to collect the returned documents without placing the data in a responses file, you can set up your own submit button using any email address you want and not use the distribution process. You will have to Reader-enable the document and then email or otherwise get it to the users. How you set up the submit button depends on how you want it to work exactly, and which version of Acrobat you're using. More information can be found here: http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/form-submit-e-mail-demystified
If you still want to go through the distribution process and want to change the email address that it uses, you can change it in: Edit > References > Identity > Email Address
You'll then have to redistribute the form using a copy of the form as it existed prior to your first distribution. The responses file will be on your machine.

You should have no problem changing the state of your digital lines programatically. You can use a while loop and shift registers on the borders of the while loop to continually change the states of the digital lines depending on your criteria.
I have created an example that counts up every time a change occurs on a boolean value. This can be used to represent the change of a digital value. Your program will probably be much different the this one, but it demonstrates using logic and shift registers to monitor a boolean value (much like a digital line).
Hope that helps. Have a good day.

• Question concerning the structure of folios and articles.

Hey there,
What's my goal:
A client of mine asked if it was possible to set a DPS document:
That when you scroll through your app from left to right (and visa versa) that you always get to the TOP-page when you get into a new article.
I was wondering if there was a way to fix that somwhere? I can't really find it
Thanks in advance.

Hallo Kevin,
as far as I know it's currently not possible. When you open a freshly downloaded issue, you will always start on the most top page, but as soon as you have scrolled down in a article, the app will
save the "laast seen" page and jump back to this possition as soon as you come backt to the article.
maybe you should file a feature request to be addes as an option switch in the DPS App Builder.

• Questions concerning the Macintosh Operating System (very technical)

I've recently learned all about how Windows based machines do various things such as memory management, processor management, disk scheduling algorithms, concurrent/parallel processing and performance evaluation/simulation.
I'm interested in learning more about the Macintosh OS handles these various aspects, in comparison to what I've learned about the Windows based machines. Could anyone enlighten me, or point me to a link that would do so?
Appreciated!!

In addition to the previous posts, I would add the following links:
See the ADC link Differences between OSX and BSD UNIX for some specifics on the diffs between OSX and BSD.
Darwin uses the Mach kernel .
I would also recommend the books "The Design and Implementation of the Free BSD System" by Marshall McKusick and George Neville-Neil and "Programming under Mach" by Boykin, Kirschen, Langerman and LoVerso for general background info on FreeBSD and Mach, respectively.
You may also find useful info at several Apple emailing lists devoted specifically to the Darwin kernel and Darwin development .

• Question concerning the state of licenses of a Windows 2008 R2 RDS server after disolving the Domain, the DC, and the AD.

Background: - several months back a Windows 2008 r2 domain existed with a DC, and an AD.  Windows servers where apart of this domain.  One of the servers being a Windows 2008 R2 server with Remote Desktop Services loaded.  The server was properly
licensed for 8 User CALS.  All was operating correctly.  Since that time the domain has been removed, the DC removed and the AD removed.  What is left are Windows 2008 R2 servers in a workgroup.  Again, one being the Remote Desktop Server.
Q1. Can the functioning Per User CALs (totaling 8) remain as Per User CALs?
Q2. Am I required to switch them to 8 Per Device CALs?
Referencing: "Best practices for setting up Remote Desktop Licensing...." - Article 2473823
In the above article it states under "RDS HOST and RDS Licensing servers are in the same Workgroup" that "We can use ONLY Per Device CALs in a workgroup environment. So, you should install only Per Device CALs on RDS licensing server."
( Which in my case they are both the same server.
Any information regarding what licensing options that can be used on a workgroup RDS server would be appreciated.

Hi,
Yes, agree with the supporting article which you have commented. We can only use per device CAL under workgroup environment and if you want to use per user CAL then server need to be member of domain.
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

• Just a question concerning the hard drive choices, 7200 rpm or 5200 rpm?

Hi guys, i wanna ask you guys would the 7200 rpm hard drive make a big difference over the std 5200 rpm drive?
Is this only a online store option or can i walk into a macstore and request one with a 7200 rpm drive in? will this take them extra time to setup or should they have stock on hand?
Finally are the drives being used in these models SATA2?
Replies would be greatly appreciated

Not likely as most Apple stores carry only stock configurations so if they don't have a configuration with a 7200 RPM drive already installed, then you buy what they have. You can order custom configurations from the online Apple Store. Some local retailers may be willing to swap a drive for you, but at additional cost that may be more than ordering the custom configuration directly from Apple.
Apple is likely using 3.0 Gb/s drives now since that's pretty much what all the new OEM drives will be. All 3.0 Gb/s drives adhere to the SATA II protocol standards (as do many 1.5 Gb/s drives depending on when they were made.) SATA II just refers to a protocol standard and has nothing specifically to do with the speed of the drive's interface.
