QUESTIONS: I have an iphone 3gs.just updating to ios5. am at the stage where I chose to restore iphone via itunes. sync seems stuck at step 7 of 7: syncing artwork. Is this necessary and if not how do I get around it?

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

Yes, I used TM for the first time about a month or two ago, using an external HDD to backup my Mac and my daughters Mac's as well. The exHDD has not been regularly connected to my Mac Air and I've seen a couple of warnings come up stating- Time Machine was unable to backup your computer because..... (I forget ).
Correct me if I'm wrong but if this disc space is being used for the snapshots, then as I continue to use my computer then the space used for snapshots will submit? to the other apps requiring more space. So this probably isn't something that I need to worry about?

What if my SWF loads external content from an online server?
Not only does the current flash player prohibit such activity, it doesn't even pop open an error anymore saying there was an error connecting to an online source.
Normally, I would simply drag the SWF into Flash and all connections would go through. I could see traces, errors, and experience no issues.
Now I can't even do that. So what then? You have crippled a fundamental use of the program, but THANK GOD we have that deco brush that nobody asked for.
And for the record, the nature of my work benefits from not necessarily allowing the Flash Player to connect to online content. The error it pops up? That's simply another method of error checking that I require. Updating the Flash Player options is not an option.
Why would you even remove this key feature from Flash anyways? It's been there for years ... has the ratio of people importing SWFs (a rather useless gesture in an increasing OOP world) really outweighed the people using Flash as a testing environment that much?

I don't use iTunes's "fetch artwork", so I'm not 100% sure, but unless you are signed in to your iTunes account, artwork is not automatic. Even then, iTunes doesn't always find it.
You can copy-and-paste artwork from the inernet, either Amazon or Google. I use 300x300 pixel images.
For the future, if you have iTunes questions, you might be better off posting them in the iTunes for Mac forum, this is iTunes for Windows. In this situation, it doesn't make any difference, but next time maybe it will.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Iphone 3GS just updated with 4.0.1 and nothing works on 3G!!!

I just updated my Iphone 3GS to the new software 4.0.1 and it was working fine with my wireless service at home, but when I get out, nothing works, I tryed to open the internet, nothing, tryed to open youtube, nothing, nothing that requires internet service was working, I can only use the phone and text, I called ATT and talked to iphone support and she told me to go the setting and did bunch of stuff, turn off the 3G, delete cookies, restore setting, etc, nothing worked to get me connectec to the internet, she told me then that I have to restore the phone and download the software again, I did it last night and today, same is happening, I can not get internet connection, I am getting really frustraring with this new crapy software 4.0.1, WHAT IS GOING ON!!!!!

Many people have been having reception/connection issues after the 4.0.1 update. Just search these forums and you will see. In the update Apple in their ultimate wisdom used a new algorithm to display the way the bars are displayed on the iPhone, mainly for the new iPhone 4, but it seems to be having a drastic effect on 3G and 3GS users. They say it should have no effect on actual reception as what you see now is what it actually was the whole time but only displayed differently but many are having serious issues. My friend updated and where she used to have 1 to 2 bars in her house and had no problem making calls she now has No Service.
I myself didn't update to 4.0.1 and won't until they get this sorted out.
Not sure why your having a problem only with internet connection, but like I said search these forums and you will hopefully find an answer.

Not that's not normal and is one of the Problems I was having before Restoring as New...
Just make sure you Sync ALL your important Info... Contacts... Music... Etc... to your Computer...
and then do a Restore as New...
i was a bit reluctant at First, because I hadn't done it before... But it was So Easy and am Really Glad I did...

I want to install hybrid drive in Macbook pro. I bought my Mac book with lion and am now running mountain lion. I was told I needed install disk to set up new drive before restoring from my time capsule.Is this correct and if so how do I get disk osx10?

I watching video I shows me needing a OSX 10 disk to boot off of when the new disk is in and the use time capsule to restore system from back up drive to new hybrid. Hope I got this correct so far. that being said my Mac Book did not come with a disk therefore is one available, when I get to point of restoring from back up with it be the same mountain lion system I had. Connect the new hybrid drive to your MBP. Start up your MBP holding the OPTION key, the two HDD icons will appear. Select the 'restore' icon on the right. When you get to the menu where you have 4 options, select Disk Utility. Format the drive and then you can use the option of restoring it from Time Machine.

I'm using Logic live. I start with piano and voice, but when I hit start on the transport, my sustained piano notes get cut off. Can you help?

Thank you, the external MIDI instrument is a very creative suggestion.
I've been using another DAW to do the MIDI programming and did not anticipate LOGIC behaving this way. It seems like a normal expectation to be able to play a live intro and then launch a track without a total break in the sound. Mainstage doesn't play MIDI sequences, and this seems to be a situation that has fallen between the cracks. Neither program addresses it. Yet.

If the phone was hacked to unlock it, it will not be able to activate until and unless the original carrier authorizes unlocking it. Since the UK carriers will not authorize an unlock for a phone that is not actively in use on their network, and you will not be able to activate it on any network until after it is unlocked, you will most likely not be able to activate and use it at all. It's a catch-22.
Return it to whereever you bought it and get a refund. Then buy a phone from a legitimate source.
