Questions in regards to connectivity of the E50
Hi all,
I have a Nokia E50 phone which I regularly connect to my PC via the USB cable. The Nokia PC Suite software is installed and everything is working fine.
When connecting the phone to the computer a message on the phone prompts me for two modes. I can't remember what the prompt actually is, but it asks the user whether the phone should be operated in synchronisation mode, in order to sycnhronise contacts with help of the Nokia PC suite software, or whether the phone should be used as a standard USB removable device. When choosing the latter the device is detected correctly as a "removable drive" and is assigned with the native XP USB mass storage driver. As I understand the storage point of the phone in this case would be the flash memory card. OK, so far so good.
When choosing the synchronisation mode I understand that the internal phone memory is used and the PC suite software acts as an "interpretor" between the internal phone memory and the Windows XP system. The synchronisation mode works fine, but everytime I connect the phone to the computer and choose sync mode Windows XP recognises it as a USB device, but cannot really determine which driver needs to be installed. It therefore tries to guide me through the manual installation of the USB driver, everytime I choose to connect the phone to the computer in synchronisation mode. I can cancel the manual installation and the phone remains to work fine with the PC suite software, however I have two questions:
1. Is this behaviour normal
2. As what kind of device is the phone supposed to show up when connecting it with the PC suite software? Will it be detected by the system as a genuine USB device in this case, which I cannot imagine because the internal memory is used, or is it detected as another device, e.g. modem?

I was told by one of the employees at the Apple store I called, that I wouldn't need to remove the sim and just simply delete my 3G account Information. Then on my new iPad, set It up/log In with the same Information I had on the previous one and I would still retain my account. I wouldn't have any problems restoring the iPad with the sim Inside the device as well.
I don't see a way to actually delete the Information since you would have to log In to your account beforehand. Would I need to log In and delete all the account Information or just simply complete a backup and restore the device?

Question/Concern Regarding HTTPS Connection
Perhaps this question belongs under security; perhaps it belongs here. Regardless, here's my concern:
I have an application running under a secure HTTPS connection, and I want and expect the secure connection to begin as soon as the login page loads. When the login page (login.jsp) loads the URL indicates that I have a secure HTTPS connection. However, I'm not seeing the lock icon that contains my certificate until after I login. Is my login screen connection secure? I'm guessing not. The security-constraint/login-config portion of my web.xml file follows. Am I missing an element? Thanks!

Still no lock. A book I read suggests that I do indeed have a secure, encrypted connection. I still have my doubts. Any other thoughts/ideas are greatly appreciated. This is one I can't afford to be wrong about!

I am trying to set up our Apple TV but we cannot activate Home Sharing. We keep getting error 2146893032. Please don't post the tutorial or troubleshooting guide. Been there already. We have also checked our virus software. Like another person who posed this question, obviously we are connected to the internet or we would not be able to post. Question regarding ONT connection via Ethernet and Cable cards
Hi,
We recently upgraded to Fios Quation 150Mbps/65 plan. We are not getting the advertised speeds (we only get like 5mbps upload) so verizon is sending a tech to switch the ONT connection from coax to ethernet.
I have 2 questions regarding this new setup:
1. If the ONT communicates with the Fios Actiontect router via ethernet instead of coax from now on, How will the set top boxes and Tivo-esque cable card powered device I currently have connected to coax, talk to the verizon system from now on, if coax is taken out of the equation? Will fios signal still flow through the internal coax wiring of the house? And moreover, I was under the impression that coax was the way set top boxes communicated and derived independent ip addresses from the Fios router, for on deman purposes and what not. How will this work from now on?
Quiestion 2.
Right next to the wall where the ONT sits, theres's a basement office where we have a PC that connects to the Fios system via an Actiontect MoCa adapter (ECB2500C) which I assume derives it internet connection from the Fios Actiontec router which sits upstairs in the living room.
Again, with the Coax about to be disabled next Friday in favor of ethernet connection from the ONT, I assume this PC will be left without internet because of the lack of internet signal in the coax? Is this correct?
Question 2.5 If my above assumption is correct, since this office is right on the other side of the wall where the ONT sits outside the house, would it be possible to run an ethernet wire through the wall that connects straight from the ONT to an ethernet switch inside the office, from which I would derive a connection for this basement PC (properly firewalled of course) and then, from said switch, continue running the ethernet wire that would ultimately reach the Actiontec Fios router upstairs from which the rest of the house derives it's internet? and would this setup affect in any way the propper functioning of the cable boxes in the house?
I'd appreciate your input and any help you can provide so I can have a ballpark idea of what to tell the Fios guy to do when he comes on Friday.

Go to Solution.It's not valid to have two devices connected to the ONT, PC and VZ Router. Must be a single device. The ONT locks onto the MAC Address of the first device it sees. Since you have TV you should have the VZ router as the internet facing router.
Other options:
1. Have the VZ Router located next to the PC in the basement and then use Wireless for all other PC's.
2. Have the VZ Router located next to the PC in the basement but run one wire upstairs and connect a switch where other PCs and devices can connect via a wire.

I have an Ipad and Iphone but I don't have an Airprint at home but only a WIFI printer, my question is if I connect the wifi printer to Airport express, can I print from Ipad and Iphone ? Please help me if anyone knows about this.
Unfortunately, connecting a non-AirPrint-enabled printer to an AirPort base station's USB port will not make it AirPrint-ready.
You will need to use another solution, like Printopia, to be able to print to this printer from an iOS device. -
Can you print from an iPad 2 using 3G in a home with no other computer or wifi by using an iPhone 5 hot spot connection if the printer has been set up in another place with live wifi? I know this question is loaded but my dad lives in a rural area and is wanting a printer to use occasionally. He doesn't want to deal with a computer and I keep his iPad updated for him at my home. In that case, it should be possible. I haven't tried this directly, but I believe it should work.
You'll need to get an actual AirPrint compatible Printer.

Once you have the compatible printer, using the Hotspot feature from the iPhone he'll have to create the Wifi bubble form the iPhone, and connect the Printer to that Wifi network.
Then connect the iPad to that same Wifi network provided by the iPhone. When all that is done, the printer should appear in any of the Apps that can Print under the Action Arrow button.
For instance in email, pressing the action arrow should show a Print option. In there the printer should appear.
Alternatively you can simply buy a wireless router and setup the network through there even if there is no internet attached. Connect the wireless printer to the router network, and connect the iPad or iPhone to that same wifi network to print. -
On my new MacBook Pro when I am connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable, Facebook pictures do not load. They show up as white boxes with blue question marks. This also happens on a website editor. But, when I am connected to the internet via Wifi, everything load properly. This is my work computer, so I have to be able to connect through the Ethernet cable to access everything. Please help me!
I mostly use Safari. But I also tried it on Firefox, Mozilla, and Camino. Mac OS X. It's my work computer, so I've only tried it at the office. I have to be connected through the Ethernet cable to access my files and email on the server.

i got an iphone the other day and when i started it up i answered the language questions and i've connected it to the wifi. just when i click next it wont activate, it's unable to connect to itunes as well, please help me
First things first, You need to update your wifi security settings. If its set at WEP, then change to WAP2. If its already set that way, then you need to make sure iTunes is up to date on your computer, then update your software.

Connecting to the internet + one more Macbook question
I've just noticed that I haven't updated my profile, but I am no longer using an eMac. That machine just died on me, so I've purchased my first Macbook. I've also moved into a new apartment, and cannot get connecting using the apartment's existing ethernet connection.
My girlfriend has a cable modem and uses an ethernet cable to connect her PC. Our compters are on the same table, so we share the ethernet cable. But when I plug it ino my Macbook, no dice. Can't reach the internet. Any clues? I don't know a lot about internet connections, but I have my network settings set for a DHCP connection, and I'm told that it's all set correctly and should work. Maybe my girlfriend's connection only allows for one computer in the apartment?
One more question: I don't like the color scheme on this new Macbook as much as I did my old eMac. On this one, the whites (for instance, the background of this page) seem "too white." So much so that it hurts my eyes. When I turn the brightness down, it makes the blues and grays look dull. But when I turn the brightness back up, the whites are blinding. Has anyone else noticed this?
eMac 40GB 1.25 GHz G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)If your Sky router is anything like my Netgear, the problem is the way you have to enter the WEP password on a Mac. IIRC, there are a couple of options for the password format, and you need to choose the right one. I think they were Hex and ASCII. My password has to be entered as 26 characters of Hex - that's how the passkey is displayed in the router when you enter the password there for the first time.
On a Windows machine, I just key that password in full. On my Macs, I have to tell it that I'm using Hex, not ASCII - there's a drop down box with all the various options somewhere that allows you to select the encryption type and the key format.
For some reason, OS X isn't clever enough to work out whether you are entering Hex or ASCII.
If you get really stuck, you can always disable WEP on the router - log in using a wired connection (usually you type 192.168.0.1 into Safari) and set wireless security to none. Check that your macbook can now connect wirelessly, then re-enable security, making a note of the new passkey.
Might be worth doing this anyway, and choosing a more secure setting. -

I have a theory. You don’t want to controll your car, you want to controll somebody who is driving the car. Volvo XC 60 is a nice family car, usually used by married men between age of 35-45, probably with small children, so it’s very unlikely that you want to controll your teanage kid, mainly because probably even if you would give him/her to drive the car in the neighborhoud, I don’t think that he/she would be „several hundred miles away”… If your child is not young teneage anymore, and he/she has his/her own life, but you want to control him/her, that is sick… So I am convinced that you want to controll your husband who probably travelling often!
