Questions on E90

I have a few questions on E90, maybe somebody could help me:
1. I send an SMS to a number which in not in Contacts. The SMS is on "Sent" folder. How do I call the number to which I have sent the message ? It seem I can only view the "To:" field on a sent message, but not use it.
2. How can I use a phone number from a web page ? Is there any way I can select and copy it ? Or does the Browser have a function to automatically recognize phone numbers ?
3. I have a name / number on the Recent calls list - dialed numbers. How can I see at what hours (plural) I have called that person / number (time of calls) ? I can only get the time of last call, but not the time of previous calls.
Thanx.

@turo,
With continued scree what is it you want? Nokia is not going to drop S60 because you have problems with it. Apparently their marketing research says that MOST people are quite happy with it, and will buy the apps they want to get a better experience. Your continued thesis highlighting the pitfalls of S60 will do nothing other that give an open platform to vent. Many people unhappy with something would simply move on and no longer purchase the offending product. You don't do this. You come and post and over and over with the same post that you posted minutes, hours, days, weeks ago. So my question is: what do you want. There must be some outcome you are after.
This is not a point of contention but surly you have some outcome in mind that you are trying to get across.Message Edited by sapporobaby on 02-Oct-200704:30 PM
Sapporo,
How many E90 have already been sold worldwide ?
How many E90 users have to possibility to come here and explain their frustration ?
How many E90 user already contacted their Nokia Care Center representative ?
Without these informations NOBODY is capable to say majority of users are or are not happy with the E90 !
The certitude is that, all the point we already discussed are reproductible and then objective.
We just need to make Nokia understand that this (our version of) E90 is just an error !
They have to replace all of them by a correct one.
This would be VERY GOOD for their brand !
I can understand, but not accept, they did not fully tested it before its launch. OK !
But now that WE, all of us, wrote a lot of topics, threads, ... here and in other forums, they can not say anymore they are not aware of it.
This E90 is a flagship for NOKIA !
It will cost them far more money to make and leave their users unhappy rather then launching a massive exchange program !
This is the main reason why I'm still here, in this forum.
In Belgium we say "L'Union fait la force" ! Together we are stronger ;-)

  • Questions on Using MAPS 1.0 on E90.

    A couple of questions on Maps.
    I started fiddling with Navigation. If I back out and come back, is there a way to resume where I left off with regard to route planning without having to select the from/to locations and re-do the entire thing? I guess, can I save a route?
    Can I 'speed up' the simulation? (drive faster by, say, forcing the driving speed to a higher speed)
    Can I 'start a simulation' from a point along the route? Particularly so if I am interrupted during a simulation.
    On my E90, I find Maps to be rather unreliable. Maps 1.0 Crashes - how can I try the new 2.0 Beta?
    Is there a 'supported/official' way of downloading Maps and putting them on my E90 given that the Map Loader application does not work? Well, it didn't work last time I tried it, does it work for anyone else? Sheesh, I have been using Maps via my Wireless Home network - it sure does soak down the data - it would drive me broke if I was paying the data costs here in Oz!
    ...Lyall

    I am pretty sure I tried all the stuff you mentioned, except I don't think that I had achieved a GPS fix prior to using the Map Loader.
    The manual said nothing about requiring a GPS fix first, it only says to have run MAPS and to connect in Data Transfer mode (yes, I have read the manual and just about all the info there is on MAPS and Map Loader).
    I am a long time user of Symbian (since a Psion Revo, and a Psion Siena before that) and each time I buy a symbian device after the Revo, I go through a period of disappointment, then frustration before settling down to acceptance. Apps crash, functionality is crippled by people who have no idea about user friendly interfaces (Revo Agenda was awesome compared to the garbage Calendar used nowadays on Symbian) and applications/System are flakey. I think I might even call this the Symbian Syndrome.

  • Some E90 questions

    First off, I'm really impressed with this thing. I switched to it from an HTC TyTN, and the bigger screen and keyboard are just incredible by comparison. I'm glad I went with this one instead of the TyTN II as an upgrade.
    My E90 seems to be the revised version... It came with version 7.40.1.2 of the firmware pre-installed, and doesn't seem to have the mic issues that some people have mentioned.
    Which leads to the first question... The keyboard sometimes leaves smudges on the screen. Is it save to stick a screen protector to the inner screen, or would it make it stick out too much, potentially causing me more grief?
    Second... Is there some kind of "flight mode" built into the S60 software? The TyTN had a feature where you could turn off all the radios and use it purely as an unconnected PDA. Can you do that with the E90?
    Let's see... Has anyone heard anything about whether deveplopers are going to be releasing versions of software that take advantage of the extra screen size?
    And finally, on a related note... What are some good sources of S60 freeware? It seems that the amount of quality freeware for Symbian is lagging behind Windows Mobile a bit. Either that, or I just don't know where to look. I'm not looking for anything specific yet, just want sources.

    Outstanding! I hit the local Jessop's camera shop and spent half as much on their general purpose digital camera/PDA screen protector with three sheets of screen protector plastic which are dramatically clearer than the Proporta ones for half the price of a single dedicated E90 protector. Had to spend all of five minutes cutting the protector to size.
    Many thanks for this excellent suggestion.

    is there anyway to take a good color picture with E90?
    Maybe there's some setting i need to tweak?

    Hello Ricky.
    All of the questions you asked could have been answered if you had used the search feature. However, as a first timer we like to point you in the right direction. Here goes:
    1. There is a search feature that is in the Office folder. It can search the entire device for you, for names, addresses, etc...
    2. You can not sure the same connection for two different operations. I mean that: if you want to use MSN and then use Yahoo, you must tell Yahoo to use the connection that MSN is on. This will work every time. The best thing to do is to use a default connection for both. Make sure they use the SAME connection.
    3. There is: IM+ by ShapeServices @www.shapeservices.com (pay service), Fring @ www.fring.com (free and it works well. Consider it Skype for your phone).
    4. Nope. There is a piece of software that I can not remember the name to that will do this. Someone will post the link for you for sure. Vmoisa, Jafores. You guys around?
    Hope this helps.

  • New to the E90 - grateful for some help ...

    Greetings All,
    Just got my E90 a few days ago. Just a few questions to start off with:
    1. Can anybody recommend a decent free file manager application, i.e. one which actually allows me to browse the entire filesystem? The built-in Nokia file manager only lets you see the \data\ folder in the phone, so for example you cannot see anything you've downloaded from the web!!
    (1b. Or is there a way to change the destination of downloaded files in the web browser?)
    2. Why is the GPS so poor? I live in London, UK, and there must be plenty of satellites available (everybody around me uses GPS with no problem), yet my E90 frequently finds only one satellite, or none at all, and can't triangulate my position.
    3. (This is tricky.) Does anybody else use s2putty? (s2putty.sourceforge.net) It works fine for password access, but it won't accept my private key (says "Cannot use - not a private key"). I've tried creating a brand new key pair in puttygen and still it doesn't work. I think the file format is somehow munged when it's copied over to the E90. Does anyone have any idea about this?
    4. Is it just me or it the user manual really totally rubbish? Is there a good user guide somewhere which tells you how to switch between apps easily, sort out your own menus, get rid of lots of the pre-installed gubbins etc. etc.?
    5. That'll do for a start, unless anyone knows of a good hex editor, DOS emulator or Master Of Magic port ...
    Thanks in advance for any help,

  • I need more INPUT (not MENU) languages in my E90!

    Though E90 Communicator is awesome in majority of functions, usability and comparatively perfect in production quality, it lacks some features that I as business-user definitely need.
    The most disappointing issue for me is the language issue. While the "normal" phones have 6 to 8 languages pro firmware/product code, the E90 has only 3!!! (Maybe 4 in APAC region but i do not care.)
    I'll try to explain shortly. As a businessman who lives in Germany and is a native Russian-speaker, I have a LOT of partners/clients/friends who do prefer to have a communication profile with me in Russian. I have almost the same amount of people with whom I need to communicate in German or French. The tragic truth is that I cannot approach this with the actual firmware situation on E90.
    If I would buy my Nokia E90 in Russia, I would get the predefined languages of English, Russian and Ukrainian. That is nice, but in this case I cannot write in German as it should be written, saying with Ö, Ä, Ü, ß and so on. I also could not use some of the French special characters. If I would use E90 only as a SMS machine, it might be OK. But I use it more likely as a travel PC replacement the device pretend to be, so I use e-mail and document editing, where the lack of those characters are intolerable.
    Besides all, I live in Germany and am a client of German service provider, so why should I probably buy the device outside of Germany? So think I and so I doing, saying I renewed my service contract and bought the E90.
    In German firmware I got another three (!!!) languages: German, English and Turkish. Wonderful. I may speak out about the pure discrimination from the Nokia side: in Germany we have the same amount of Russian speakers as Turkish fellow ones, both about 8,000,000 persons each. ;-) So why Turkish and not Russian, Italian or French? Every of those "communities" has equal rights, am I right?! Hei, Nokia! Do you hear my voice?!
    Is it really so hard to understand, that an ULTIMATE BUSINESS SOLUTION as E90 definitely would be preferred by the people, who really use it - really intensive - as a communication device?! Is it really hard to understand, that thousands of them would get e-mails and documents while on the road that definitely need to be urgent answered some other language than 3 preinstalled?! Should I change the firmware of my phone every time I need to answer e-mail in French or edit the financial contract for my Russian partner?!
    Ridiculous and disappointing - what else should I say?! Especially because I know, that the situation as easy to fix from the Nokia side as a single mouse click.
    I am sure there are people reading and writing to this Forum who needs for example Chinese Mandarin and German, or Hindi and Farsi, or Arabic and Spanish simultaniously. There is no way to understand why it is impossible to choose the INPUT languages - I do NOT speak about the MENU languages and never pretend to.
    So, because this Forum is Nokia's piece of land and Nokia has kindly allowed us to cry out here what I do really appreciate, I want definitely get the answer to following questions:
    1) Is it possible to add some INPUT (once again - NOT menu, just INPUT) languages to E90 firmware?
    2) If yes, when?
    3) If not, what is the reason? The reason - please, no "technical excuses", because I am not that stupid, OK? ;-)
    We are living in such a damn globalized world, aren't we? So let's be really globalized and let's help us ourselves to get out the most from this.
    Thanks to all for listening.

    Since Windows 98 is absolutely not a problem to add ANY input language in ANY localized version of the OS. I do know that Symbian OS has at least the same flexibility options.
    Once again: I do not pretend to have any other MENU language - I simply do not need it. But the possibility to choose more INPUT language is simply and quickly to add, that is what I am asking for.
    Maybe your statistic research is right, I do not want to argue with you. More than that, this is exactly I expected as an excuse option: "Marginal request". But no, it is not. The device would probably have higher customer interest when the free input would be represented.
    Your advice to use laptop instead of E90 is highly appreciated, but it is not unique enough to be accepted "as is". ;-) The idea of E90 as well as previous communicators was to give the customer an option to leave her/his laptop at home and make a 1 or 2 day business trip as lite as possible in every meaning of the word "lite". I have 2 laptops already, 1 Panasonic for traveling and IBM Z61p Workstation as a desktop replacement. I should say that Panasonic, while being one of the best travel-oriented devices on the market, with its almost 2 Kilo travel weight and about 1 minute power-up/power-down time is completely insufficient as a communicator replacement. In addition to it you need a businesscard-scanner and a digicam, you are constantly out of power and so on. It is or will be the same story with UMPC. The only option until now was HTC/Qtek 9000, the most powerful and well-equipped device on the market. But it is completely useless as a phone and its camera is a disaster, so I switched to E90 because of its awesome usability as a phone, a digicam and as a communicator simultaneously just because I HATE to carry on 12 hours a day here and there a 5 Kilo bag with laptop, phone, camera, cables, batteries and other damned stuff around. I am just SICK and TIRED of this and I dreamed about the device that can make free from all that - for YEARS!!!
    I remember my conversation with Nokia people at its CeBIT Stand in late 1990-es - the concept was already here, but the materialization of my dreams took Nokia R&D almost a decade. And now, when it is already in my hands, it lacks such a damn little thing to be as perfect as possible! ;-)
    I am not that crazy - "perfect" does not mean really perfect. Of course there are and there would be minor and major bugs with later fixes and improvements. Because of the possibility of fixes and improvements I insist on one of the most critical for me. I understand as well, that it needs neither additional research nor hardware changes. All you need to to do is a little software module to be added and/or replaced. The Occam Razor Rule is still in my mind. ;-)

  • Why is not the E90 available on all the other netw...

    I have a Nokia 9500 on the Orange network. I need to change this quickly because the phone is falling to pieces. However orange have told me that the phone is not available to them. I have sent an email to nokia but they have not replyed & this has been over a month ago. I have tried to locate the phone but the only options availabe to me are either to change to the O2 network which i dont want to do because i have been through them all & for me & my business the best network by far is the Orange network. The other option is to buy this outright & sim free but people are charging from £499 up to £650 which is a complete no no!!! please can anyone tell me why the E90 is not available to the Orange network?
    Kind regards,
    Neil Watson

    This sounds like a question for "Orange" not Nokia forums.
    Have you tried on-line auctions to see if you can get one SIM free and unlocked??
    Also, It would be worth searching these forums just to check that the E90 will do "Exactly" what you want, or maybe buy another 9500?.
    I am not trying to be negative, because I think the E90 most have come from canine decent.... The dogs B......s.
    But, this is my 1st communicator, and I am very very pleased with it so far.
    I would like to think that with another Firmware release, it will be even better? Flash Lite 3 support etc....
    But some previous Comummunicator owners have shown some disapointment with the E90's offerings compared with the 9500 on these forums.
    It is not a cheap device, so making the right choice is worth a bit of research!!
    Some things in life are guaranteed, but can you claim on them?

  • GPS settings on Nokia e90. Just checking!

    I have recently bought an E90 communicator and had a couple of questions about my GPS setup/ costs etc.
    I have read as many forums etc as I can but nothing quite answers my queries.
    I have successfully managed to lock onto satellites. I have initiated the route I want to take by going into maps and setting the start and end locations. The route map is downloaded using the O2 "free" unlimited wap access I have. So far so good. I then initiate the navigation option under settings and it loads and sets up showing me where I am starting. What I want to know is are all the processes described, as far as anyone knows, cost free and covered by the integrated Gps on the phone.
    Also once my e90 has made the very first contact with the satellites which took a while, but not too long, it locked on much more quickly the next times. Will this only happen if I attempt in the same place again or will it log on in a different place(i.e fifty miles away) just as quickly because initial lock on has been made. Thanks in advance. James

    Yes, assuming that your O2 data access is free then everything you have done as described is free.
    First satellite fix is always the slowest. Subsequent fixs in the vicinity should be fairly quick. The only times I have had to wait for the receiver to get a fix again is usually when I travel abroad.

  • E90 - outlook email: HELP please

    Hello everyone,
    I am seriously considering buying the E90. It seems a good option as I need excel, powerpoint, good browser and email.
    I am not very techy, so my question may sound simple/stupid, but if anyone can help me with it I'd really appreciate it, as it is absolutely key to my decision:
    - I have a windows XP laptop, and my professional emails are on outlook. Will I be able to download my outlook inbox (emails) onto the E90? My purpose is to answer emails from the E90, while travelling, eg on the phone.
    Thanks for the help!

    I bought E90 without checking this, expecting it would be syncing emails since it is the new version of communicator. Was living fine with old 9500 , but small and GPS powered E90 was attractive.Although it is a small disappoinment , have a "better than nothing" solution.
    Add a small piece of code to your outlook in order to create a task for each arriving mail , including subject and body, and if you wish to "sync" sent mails do it for the sent mails as well.
    Then you have to just sync your tasks , and you will have all your mails there.
    You dont want to mess with your real tasks , create a new folder in outlook and do the same for this new folder, but you have to manually change folder info in PcSuite and sync twice.
    Since I am not using tasks, it  is working fine for me.
    As I said , it is better than nothing.
    Private Sub Application_ItemSend(ByVal Item As Object, Cancel As Boolean)
    Dim myitem As Outlook.TaskItem
    Set myitem = Outlook.CreateItem(olTaskItem)
    myitem.Subject = "[Sent]" & Item.Subject
    myitem.StartDate = Now
    myitem.DueDate = DateAdd("d", 2, Now)
    myitem.Body = "You have sent this mail on : " + Str(Now) + vbCrLf
    myitem.Body = myitem.Body + "You have sent this mail to : " + Item.To + vbCrLf
    myitem.Body = myitem.Body + String(50, "-") + vbCrLf
    myitem.Body = myitem.Body + Item.Body
    myitem.ReminderTime = Format(DateAdd("d", 2, Now), "DD/MM/YYYY 14:00:00")
    myitem.Importance = Item.Importance
    myitem.Save
    myitem.Close (olSave)
    Set myitem = Nothing
    End Sub
    Private Sub Application_NewMailEx(ByVal EntryIDCollection As String)
    Dim Item As Outlook.MailItem
    Set Item = Application.Session.GetItemFromID(EntryIDCollection)
    Dim myitem As Outlook.TaskItem
    Set myitem = Outlook.CreateItem(olTaskItem)
    myitem.Subject = Item.SenderEmailAddress & "," & Item.Subject
    myitem.StartDate = Now
    myitem.DueDate = DateAdd("d", 2, Now)
    myitem.Body = Item.Body
    myitem.ReminderTime = Format(DateAdd("d", 2, Now), "DD/MM/YYYY 14:00:00")
    myitem.Importance = Item.Importance
    myitem.Save

    Set myitem = Nothing

  • E90 Missing (fax) modem and data calls

    Hi all
    I read in a couple of other threads that there is no (fax) modem in the E90. Is this why I cannot get datacalls to work? I can quite happily get data calls to work on a 9110, 9110i, 9300i, but not on an E90, all with the same sim and details.
    This seems a little strange, because there is a section for setting up datacalls to enter all the deatils for the call. I asked a question earlier if anyone has got data calls to work, but got no responses.
    Thanks
    A.
    Nokias: 2110, 8110, 9000, 9110, 9110i, 9300i, 770, 9110i again (9300i broke), E90

    I just called Best data and they said the problem is that the software does not work with osx 10.4.9, they do not have any updated scripts for it and do not know if they ever will.. duhh.....
    now I know.. I have to get another modem

  • E90 Browser - how do I emulate the Windows right-c...

    Two Download Web Application Questions:
    Q1:
    In the E90 internet browser, I need to "right-click" and then "save-as" a download file to a directory. How do I do that?
    Q2:
    I cannot download Audible book files, they are linked under a "*.pl" script I think - so I cannot download to my phone. Does anyone know how to get them without the desktop PC-Suite being involved?
    Gracias Mates.

    In short the answer to your first point is no, you can go into options/tools/view images and select and save images on the page, but no right click as such. I dont think Opera Mini allows this even.
